Video summary

In this video, hosts Shay Bear 1000 and Monkey 1000 present a rare, factory-sealed Test Track electric race set from Disney World, originally released in 1999 to coincide with the grand opening of the attraction at Epcot Center on March 17th. The set is notable for being unopened for twenty-seven years and was acquired by Shay for $75 after the seller had held onto it for a long time in a small town called Inverness. Unlike modern collectibles where production numbers are often disclosed, Disney does not release information on how many of these specific sets were manufactured, making this particular item's rarity somewhat mysterious. The box contains two test track cars, power tracks, controllers, a tune-up kit, and an extensive array of accessories including crash test doors, incline sections, simulated brake tests, fire and ice tunnels, guardrails, bridges, and various road signs. The central conflict of the video revolves around whether to open the sealed box or keep it in its pristine, new-old-stock condition. Monkey argues that leaving the set unopened preserves its monetary value, potentially worth up to $190 on the secondary market, whereas Shay believes that the true purpose of owning such a toy is to enjoy playing with it. After some playful banter and hesitation, Shay eventually decides to open the package, admitting that while he feels bad about losing the potential resale value, he wants to experience the set firsthand. Upon opening, they discover that despite being sealed for nearly three decades, the tires on the cars are still in good shape, and the components inside remain remarkably intact, though the excitement is tempered by the knowledge that the item is no longer in its original factory-sealed state. Once opened, the hosts proceed to set up a portion of the track to test if the cars still function correctly after all these years. They successfully get the cars running on the oval layout, noting that while the track is quite large and they had to leave some pieces leaning against a chair due to space constraints, the mechanics hold up well. During testing, they observe that the Life-Like track is noticeably louder than their other Tyco sets, which tend to run more quietly. They also discuss the differences between the two brands, with Monkey expressing a preference for Tyco cars due to their smoothness and speed, though Shay enjoys the unique features of this vintage Disney set. The video concludes with them deciding to pack the set away again, acknowledging that while they have enough vintage track pieces to build massive layouts in their living room or kitchen someday, this specific moment of opening was a bittersweet experience for both collectors and enthusiasts.

[music] >> Hey everyone, Shay Bear 1000 here and beside me >> Monkey 1000. >> Okay, so tonight we're going to be checking out this uh test track from Disney. Uh this is 1999. They came out with this year I got it brought up on my phone. They came out with this in 1999 with the grand opening, the official grand opening of the Test Track attraction at Epcot Center on March 17th, 1999. >> [clears throat] >> The only place you could get these at that time was at the what they call the where you go buy trinkets and stuff, the gift shops in Epcot Center. Uh was the only place you you could get these. Now, you can get them, you know, through you can get them in antique shops, uh thrift stores, eBay. Maybe if you get lucky you can find one at a yard sale, but that's the only place you could get them. And Disney does not uh it they don't you can't figure you can't know how many of these were made. Uh Disney doesn't put that up. >> Mhm. >> How you know, how many stuff like this was made or sold or anything like that. Now, this is from Lifelike. Um we have a lot of we have a Matchbox, couple Matchbox sets. We have a lot of Tyco sets. But this is from Lifelike. So, what we're going to do tonight is we're not going to set the whole thing up, but we're going to set it up. First, we're going to go through it and make sure it's all here, and then we'll set up a little track and make sure they run. Sometime we will set up the whole track and check it out. But tonight we just want to make sure it's all here and that it works. So, the set includes two test track cars, power track and controllers, tune-up kit, assorted track, crash test door, incline and suspension test, uh simulated brake test, fire and ice tunnels, uh guardrails and bridges, start finish gate, simulated speed clock, and uh road signs and cones. Like I said, we're not going to uh we're not going to set the whole thing up, but let's see. Um I thought I'd messed up at the store. I guess I didn't, did I? >> No. >> You know what? Uh-oh. >> What? Never been opened? >> This is factory sealed. >> Never been opened. >> I thought I didn't this something looked in it. Must've been something else. Uh >> Might've been the other one. >> No, it's factory sealed, too. It's still there. >> Um Uh-huh. Wow. >> Okay, this is still factory sealed from 1999. >> And you're going to open it? >> Monkey's face. Should we open it? >> Well, that's up to you. >> What do you guys think? Look, I don't know I thought I had opened this and looked inside, but it must've been something else. Cuz a lot of times if if a box like train sets and stuff if they're trying to sell a train set, I will open it up and you know, make sure it's all there. >> I don't think you did. >> This is This is no, not this. This is totally factory sealed. >> [laughter] >> I feel bad now. >> Why? >> Cuz you him down. >> I didn't really jew him down. I made an offer and he took it. >> Yeah, he took it. >> They You know, I mean >> I think he didn't have to. He could have said no. >> That's right. He could have said no. >> That's true. >> They wanted 150 for this. I offered 75 and they took it. >> Yeah. >> Um We'll get back with you guys. Okay, Monkey's just trying to make to show me a point of view maybe, whatever that means. She wants me to open it. >> Well, I told him if you don't open it, if don't open it, it's sitting and it's just going to sit there. >> But it's worth more money. >> for doesn't want to open it because it's not going to be open. He figures he can make more money off of it. Well, he might he might not. >> No, I will. Trust me. >> guy had it there for a very long time. >> Yeah, but he only had it one place in a little town called Inverness. >> So, nobody wanted it. >> They won't. >> And he came down on the price. So >> Because But, see what they're going for? >> Yeah, but it's like $500. >> 100 Yeah, but $190 factory sealed condition is what they're going for. I gave 75 for it. >> And you bought it to have fun. >> more than double my money if I keep it like this. >> You had bought it You have with it. If you don't open it, then you can't have fun with it. >> That's all I'm saying. >> I can >> So, if you're going to have fun and enjoy it, then open it up. If you don't, you want to profit it, then then keep it sealed. >> I don't even know which would be the best way to open it. >> Or what you can do >> What? >> ask your viewers. >> Oh my My viewers are going to say, "Open it." >> Well, then. What you got to say? >> What I got to say is don't listen to my gut. >> Then don't listen to me, then. >> [laughter] [clears throat] >> You don't get mad about it. >> I'm not mad. I'm not mad at all. >> I would >> You always go for your gut, right? How you feel. And that's what your mother always told you, right? >> That doll What if you had one factory sealed, not open? >> I would keep it in the box. >> You would not open it, would you? >> Probably not. >> See? See, guys? >> But I'd keep her. >> Maybe we can just take a peek. >> Well, once you take that little peek, you're even in the dangerous zone. So. >> Dangerous zone. Damn, the mosquitoes are bad. >> Yeah, they [clears throat] are bad. I opened up that door and they're coming in. >> It's cuz the water's so low and we're so close to the river and a lake and there's some swamps right at the end of the street. >> [sighs] >> It is hot. >> Damn. >> Well, you don't have to open it tonight if you don't want to. You can save >> I'm making a video tonight. >> Well, then make a video on something else. >> Well, I don't have anything else to make a video on. She's looking around. You really want me to open What do you want to open? Because you want to play racetrack. >> Yeah. >> I got plenty open ones. But I don't want to play with >> [laughter] >> this. I know, that's my point. It's NOS. It's new old stock. Factory sealed, unopened for 27 years. >> Well, then leave it sealed. >> All right, here we go, guys. What? >> It's a doll in my arm. >> What? No, you told me to open it. What the hell? Look. She >> I got a nervous. He's actually shaking. Where are you going? Sorry, guys. >> Oh! >> Focus. >> See, he's acting nervous about opening it up. Just think, nobody's ever >> Shut up! Guys, yeah, I know. No one's ever cut this. >> But Dennis wanted to see it. You >> Well, he didn't know it was unopened either. >> Well, how many cars has he sent you that was unopened that you opened up? >> None. >> None? >> I've never opened any of those cars he sent me. They're still sealed. >> Oh. >> But they're not like this though. I mean, this is a >> You should have just did it right here. >> Oh, no. >> Throw in the box. >> Shut up. >> How old is this car? >> 27 years old. >> 27 year old and save it and open it up. >> For the first time in 27 years. If he left it sealed, he could have gotten maybe $190. >> I would get $190 on it. >> Now it's not sealed. So, that means we can play with it. >> Oh, man. Well, that's it. There goes $100 and something. Oh, look at that. Then I got to undo all this. Well, it's open now. >> All right, you don't have to worry. >> There's the parts list. >> Everything is >> No one's looked at this since it was put in the box. >> No. Mhm. >> [sighs] >> Man. Now it's ruined. There's the tunnel. >> Oh, that's cool. >> Mhm, gold chamber, heat chamber. Man. I don't know that. Still feel. >> Well, yeah. It's brand new. >> Not anymore. There's all the signs and stuff and >> You don't have to open it all the way if you don't want to. >> I have to. I don't want to. >> Turn it off. >> Just let it run on. And there's the cars. >> Oh, you get two cars? >> Yes. It's your race track. >> Oh, and they got a yellow one. I want the yellow one. >> Look at that. >> Yeah. Oh, I better not race this. >> [sighs] >> This will be scary for me. >> Man. 1999 >> Yeah. It's pretty cool. >> Look how perfect that is. Man. This to gates. Wow. Well, it was in mint condition. We'll just do an overall paint. >> Uh-huh. >> This is a pretty big track. >> Well, if it's all set up. >> Yeah. >> How am I going to do an oval? Because All right, guys. Let Let me get an oval set up here. Then we'll open the cars. >> Okay. >> And we'll try it now. Okay, guys. We set up the whole track. Pretty much whole track. I don't guard rails up or anything, but So, let's um open these cars up. It's never been opened. Here's Monkey's car. And the tires are in good shape on that one. >> Unbelievable, still in the box. The tires are in good shape. Been there long. This is what I don't like, this track. I've got it the way it's supposed to be set up except for over there cuz I ran out of room on the table to put the other pieces up there, so I just got them leaned up against that chair. All right. Well, will it run? And that one. All right, that one ran. Let's try this one. I don't know. Do I have the spacing right? Not sure. Oops. Tricky coming through there. What's that? What? >> Not as quiet as the Taiga are they? >> Uh-uh. >> He said he won't go back home. Hm. All right. Let's jump here. Man, I can't get you all get you in the whole track here. >> Oh. Real good there. Mhm. >> [snorts] >> Mhm. >> Woah. Very cool. Too bad we opened it. >> Why? >> Because We'll try it. I mean, you talked me into opening it or not. >> Yeah. >> Got to be careful over here. If you get too fast, it'll spin out. If you don't go fast enough, it won't stop. Ready? >> Mhm. >> That's fairly strong. >> Mhm. >> Hey. >> [snorts] >> Was this a ride at Epcot or something? >> What? >> Was it a ride at Epcot? >> I don't think so. >> Yeah. >> Mhm. Not that I remember. >> Were you there in 1999? >> I was there in the first time I remember. I don't know what year it was. I I've only been there one time, so >> [snorts] >> I don't remember. >> I'm paying attention. Come on. Pay attention. >> Mhm. Okay. I'm with you, Ar. >> Nothing wrong pretty good. They quieted down. Yeah. Can run side by side when we get in there. >> No. >> I just have a tune-up kit for one. >> Oh, yeah? >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> New pickup brushes to go in, too. Little piece of candy, baby. Track 1 will run now. All right. Well, there it is. We've seen them run. There it is, guys. First time it's ever ran. And I got a memory card blinking. Hang on. Okay, guys. So, there it is. It's um Man, I really didn't want to open it. I'm still feeling bad about it. I probably shouldn't have, but >> Okay. So, when she says to me that I don't remember this, but she said there was a ride that was called this, Test Track. And they had two cars that would race beside each other. >> Well, it had to be 1999 or after. Cuz >> Yeah. >> what I just read to you >> Mhm. >> that it opened what, May or March 17th of 1999. >> Yeah, it had to be. >> So, it had to be after that. >> Yeah. Yeah. >> Wow. I think last time I was there was in '87. So, there it is. It's open now. >> And it's used. >> Yeah. >> What? You're using it. You're enjoying it. >> Now I get to tear it down and going to back in the box. >> You will never to it again. >> That's not the point. I did. She don't get it, guys. Even admitting, if you had that doll Mrs. Beasley unopened, factory sealed, you would not open it. Admit it. >> Yeah, I would not open it. >> Well, why? Open it up. Enjoy it. Ha ha ha. See? [laughter] Now you know. >> But she's only valuable to me, nobody else. >> You don't know that. There are doll collectors. >> Well, I'm not saying there isn't, but >> Man. Well, that just cost us $100. Wow. Okay, there it is, guys. So unopened, factory sealed a minute ago. >> It's meant to be >> Not necessarily. Think about it. Someone opened this There was someone bought this, guys, and took it home and never opened it. And then the people who have No how many people owned it before me didn't open it. >> Right. But now you're the only one that opened it. >> Yeah, I'm the only one that opened this one. All the other ones we've seen, except for one was open. >> Right. >> How many people have opened this on YouTube, though? Unsealed it. All right. Well, I'm going to edit this video and get it put up for you. It's late. 10:42 Sunday night. So, we get to tear this down and put it going to away. >> I'm sorry. I don't mind you opening it. Happy. >> Then why'd you have me open it? I'm not >> I wanted you to enjoy it. Be happy about it. >> I enjoy it looking at it up on a shelf when that's never been opened. 27 years it's never been opened. >> I didn't open it. >> You told me to. >> I told you it had to be your decision. >> You said I would open it. >> Yeah, I did. >> All right, I'm going to put it back in back in the box. And uh maybe sometime we'll do a live stream, we'll get it out. Put the rails on it and >> We should do two tracks. Do you want me to put one on the floor? >> They can't hear you. >> We should do two tracks. Do this one against another one, like a Tyco or something, and see the difference in the two. >> I know the difference. Tyco always outruns Life-Like in my opinion. These are louder than Tyco. All the Tyco cars I've got >> Mhm. >> they're all Every one of them's a lot quieter than this. The track's quieter. Even at all All the old track we've got, they're quieter. >> Are the cars better? >> Tyco? >> Mhm. >> Oh, yeah. Yeah. I've always liked Tyco. I've had Life-Like and you know, all the other ones, but I've always liked Tyco. They're just as smooth and >> Right. >> They're fast and you know. >> Mhm. >> Man. All right, guys, I'm going to put this up. Say bear, this is Mike and Mary letting you all know. For now, I hope you enjoyed this video. Mike? >> Mike says he's out. Bye, y'all. >> Yeah, but yeah, sometime we can get a couple of them set up. >> Yeah, be fun. >> Open that floor up out there. >> Yeah. >> Move that table, that coffee table back and put a couple up and have them going over top of each other and stuff. >> That'd be fun. >> You wouldn't believe the track I got. >> No, I know. I You tell me about it, but >> You don't understand. >> No, I can't >> She doesn't understand how much stuff we got in there. That I mean how many sets I can make up. I mean, you you would you just couldn't fathom >> Mhm. >> how much track we got to make. I mean, we we could Just just with Tyco stuff, we we we could fill this living room up with one super track. >> Yeah. Yeah. >> That'd be fun. >> Trains I probably got enough trains to to make 15 sets if I wanted to. >> Yeah. >> At least. >> Yeah. Have to rent me a a big garage. At least me or buy a garage >> Yeah. >> and just set up a bunch of >> Yeah. >> trains and >> toy room. >> Yeah. Because I'm telling you yeah, we got enough. We could probably do the living room and kitchen in one big Tyco track. >> Oh, that'd be cool. >> I mean, I'm not kidding you like >> Yeah. >> Like you see on YouTube. >> Yeah. >> Oh, yeah. We got every bit of that that stuff. >> Just being in one room. >> But it's all vintage. Every bit of it. It's all vintage. >> Yeah, it is. >> And they all run. Every car we've got runs. >> Yeah. >> All right, guys. Well, thanks for watching. I appreciate it. Hopefully everyone has a safe and happy week. And we'll see you in the next one. So, I got for you now. So, we're going to put this away and then I'll edit this video, so you probably won't see it till tomorrow, which would be Monday, which by the time you see this might be today. If not, if you see it tonight, you're die hard and I appreciate that. Bye-bye, guys. Take care. >> [music] [music]
