Video summary
Sheffield Wednesday returned to Hillsborough with a renewed sense of optimism and energy, marking a significant turnaround less than six months after their relegation from the Championship. The atmosphere at the stadium was electric, reflecting the club's rebirth under new ownership and the leadership of manager Graham Alexander. Despite the high hopes and the presence of fourteen new player additions, the match against Bradford City served as a stark reality check for the Owls. While Wednesday started with intent and displayed moments of individual brilliance, particularly from midfielders like Callum Slattery and Louis Barry, they struggled to convert their chances into goals against a determined opponent.
Bradford City, managed by Brian Alexander, delivered a sophisticated and resilient performance that ultimately secured a victory at Hillsborough. The visitors capitalized on set-piece opportunities, which proved to be their most effective weapon throughout the game. Aiden Baldwin scored the decisive goal early in the second half from a corner kick, demonstrating Bradford's tactical discipline and ability to exploit defensive lapses. Throughout the match, Bradford showed tenacity and refused to be pushed back, making life difficult for Wednesday's attacking players who found themselves overrun and unable to maintain their momentum against a well-organized defense.
The match was characterized by missed opportunities for Sheffield Wednesday, with several shots going wide or being saved by the Bradford goalkeeper. Players like Louis Barry and Jamal Ollie were involved in promising attacks but lacked the precision needed to break through the defensive line. Although Wednesday created enough chances to keep the scoreline close, including a near-miss that could have leveled the game, they ultimately failed to capitalize on their dominance in possession. The result highlights the challenges facing the newly promoted side as they face strong promotion contenders like Bradford, who are building belief and momentum for a successful campaign ahead.

everyone and welcome to Hillsbor. Oh, it
feels so different here now. An hour of
optimism over this part of South
Yorkshire. A reborn, rebuilt Shepherd
Wednesday less than 6 months after their
relegation from the championship at Bra
Lane of all places last February. Off to
a winning start at the weekend away at
Leon Oran as were Graham Alexander's
Bradford City who put in a stylish and
sophisticated performance to put away
Peterbr. Lamar Knight, the 150th game in
charge of Bradford for Brian Alexander,
who masterminded Bradford's rise from
League Two two seasons ago.
Cross comes in high looping balls to
Barry Bannon who has a go. Doesn't catch
it cleanly. You don't want to give him
that kind of space on the edge of the
box.
>> Here's the man who hopes to turn it all
around. David Storch.
He's got a different place right now.
>> He really does believe that he can
completely transform the fortunes of
this football club. Once again,
>> just the investment in players which has
been made, the 14 new additions, but
there's been plenty of work done both
here at Hillsra and at the training
ground to make this club feel like
Sheffield Wednesday once again after the
neglect under the previous owner. In
comes the cross to the back post. Real
chance here. breaks to Bannon and it's
beaten away by John McCracken. Still a
danger here and now Bradford can breathe
a little easier but Sheffield Wednesday
there with a real opportunity through
Barry Bannon to get themselves in front
as you can see had been raised over on
the far side. Before kickoff I mentioned
the industry of Callum Slattery and this
opportunity comes from his hard work off
the ball. There he is. Orange boots
pinching the ball back putting pressure
on the grabing midfielders. Then the
counterattack is on. They can break
forward.
Jamalo will be quite happy just to drift
out into wide areas.
It's right at the goalkeeper. So it's
sable. I think Bannon again will be
disappointed with his finish there.
Valerie here. And it's a loose touch by
him. It may prove very costly indeed.
And the Bracken is there once again.
Bradford are living dangerously.
>> There's a strong energetic start from
Sheffield Wendy. Jos Lfield just just
switches off here. The ball comes his
way. He just he's in a good position,
but he's just not ready. But what
happens? You know, he takes a poor
touch. He's no idea where his man is.
Louis Barry and he and Bradford are
looking to escape. They need to get up
to the the speed of the game here.
They're getting overrun.
whipped in the ball bouncing around.
>> Chance Wednesday to whip it in once
more, but they acted cutely instead and
it's hooked towards the top corner and
it wasn't too far away from Louis Barry.
>> Well, it slices Bradford open and Barry
is so unlucky. Just doesn't quite get
the bend on it, get the accuracy on it.
If this is on target, it's one nil
Wednesday.
in the playoff semi-finals last season,
but it was the fifth time that's
happened to them four previous
occasions. The man in charge has lost
his job the following season. But I
don't think anyone's really expecting
those kind of problems for Graham and
Slatterie as Wednesday looked to finish
the first half with a flourish and they
weren't too far away from doing so. just
opened up for Mallum Slatterie for his
effort. A whisker wide. And why does it
open up? Because of the unselfish run
off the ball from Yan Valerie. Just
watch the amount of ground that the the
right back covers to get up in support
of of Slatterie. The pass is not going
to come his way. The Bradford defenders
have to step off and and track that
forward run from the right back. That
opens the space up for Slatterie and he
just pulls it wider the target. He'll be
disappointed at the very least he's not
worked the goalkeeper there.
touches it inside cleverly. Jackson
across goal and it wasn't too far out of
the reach of Beasley. Well, it didn't
take too many touches to cause a problem
there. Direct football from Bradford and
it so nearly had them in front.
feel would be bit of a statement victory
here tonight if they can come to this
hyped up Hillsbor take three points back
on the short journey home looking to
make a positive start to the second half
he's touched behind in the early corner
for the visitors
just overplaying in their own half
stepping onto them winning the ball back
no surprises across from causing
problems for Wednesday at the back when
they had the ball
to make plenty of movement inside the
box as it comes in. There might just be
a chance here which is vanto. It is a
dream start to the second rushed home by
Aiden Baldwin.
Pandemonium in the away and they do make
one of those set piece situations count.
She wins nil. Bradford City won
really struggling to create anything.
This is why we kept mentioning their
strength or set pieces. It's a quality
ball in by the way for Tori. Talk about
very bad in the first half. Too much
play on the delivery. This is flat. He's
pacey. Keeper can't come and deal with
it. It's just how you react when that
ball drops. This is a center forwards
finish from a center out.
The still
making progress. He sends in the cross.
Perhaps he could have puned it back.
Might not look the best option. I still
think it's a magnificent cross. When you
consider the speed that NL is is moving
it here. He has to sprint to get to the
ball. Then he slows himself down. He
digs out a really dangerous cross. I
think that he's got a right to expect
more from his teammates to really attack
this cuz you know he's running out of
pitch. That is a brilliant cross.
Sweeps it in. He doesn't clear the
penalty area. Sent back towards goal and
flicked on and it was awkward for Joan.
He skipped up in front of him and he
just pushes it behind. There's not an
awful lot of power on the head but the
fact it bounces in front of the
goalkeeper makes it slightly tricky. He
should save it.
Precision isn't there. The power's not
there. Goalkeeper should keep it out.
It's just a bounce of the ball. Just
think he allows that ball to bounce to
see where it's going to end up and make
sure he gets his gloves on it.
Wednesday rocking here
only move straight to that now go onto
his left foot and he almost almost found
the far corner.
>> You can see what he's trying to do. I
think he surprises the defenders by
going infield onto his left foot.
Stronger on his right hand side. He's
just looking to pass this ball into the
bottom corner. It's the right choice.
Just doesn't wrap his instep around it.
He's not closed down Wednesday, so you
have to step onto him when he's right on
the edge of the box looking to shoot.
>> Edison is really going to shackle his
pack in a moment or two. Three changes
being read down below us.
>> Looks across and he brings his side a
corner.
Lley looks to come through the crowd and
he gets a knuckle to it.
>> Chance to strike here. It's ticker neck
and Lley flinging himself to the right.
Palms it behind for another corner.
It came in from Adam Phillips. It's not
an easy ball to strike cuz normally let
this come across your body and take it
with your left foot. But he has to take
it with his right cuz he's getting
closed down. So he's just looking to
whip that and it's that deflection that
makes it difficult for Lumlink. He's on
his toes the goalkeeper. The pace has
taken off the the strike a little bit as
well.
Wednesday just can't build up the head
of steam. There's no momentum. There's
no attacking pressure. So credit again
Brad, for the way they've set up their
tenacity, the substitutes have come on
and that's the pace of the game as well.
They just made it so difficult for
Wednesday to to dominate.
>> Whipped out here to find Morrison who's
got himself in a one-on-one situation
initially. have good bodies come over.
The cross comes in, claims a hand ball.
He then stayed up and flung himself in
the way to put it behind. His
positioning is perfect, but you have to
keep your arms out of the way. And he
does so well to keep his arms away from
the ball here. Would have been very easy
just to stick out an arm and block it.
Does so well just to get his chest on
that
sheep again. All that you euphoria, huge
crowd, new owners,
bright future for them. But you're up
against a very good side here. A side
that going to push them all the way for
promotion. So you shouldn't be too
unhappy that the team has certainly
tried. Possible chance here to snatch it
all. But the effort goes the wrong side
of the post. That was the chance that
they'd been craving.
And it so nearly so nearly was 1-1. That
just sums up the night for Sheffield
Wednesday. Yeah, Jamal Lo his reaction
tells you absolutely everything. He
should be scoring here
and with that surely goes Sheffield
Wednesday's chance of taping something.
Indeed, it is. They came to Hillsbor
tonight to celebrate the Sheffield
Wednesday supporters. But it's the
Bradford fans who will leave in Buoy. A
rugged, determined performance from
Graeme Alexander's side. They struck
from a set piece early in the second
half through Aiden Baldwin and belief
building at Bradford that they can do
Andy what they did last season and be
right in that pack come the end of the
season. It finishes Sheffield Wednesday
nil Bradford City 1.
