Everything I do with my hair to get it long & healthy // Fav products, styling, wash day routine
Watch on YouTubeVideo summary
Sam, a professional hair stylist, shares her comprehensive journey to achieving long, healthy hair by detailing her specific wash day routine and favorite products. She emphasizes that the foundation of hair growth starts with scalp health, advocating for detangling dry hair before showering to prevent breakage in its most fragile wet state. Her process often includes occasional scalp oiling with pure batanana oil to nourish follicles and stimulate blood flow, sometimes paired with a bond-building treatment like Olaplex No. 3 to strengthen strands without relying on frequent trims. She clarifies her hair using a peptide-based detox shampoo every few washes followed by a deep conditioning mask, ensuring that the scalp is thoroughly cleansed while keeping the ends hydrated and protected from environmental damage.
After washing, Sam focuses on gentle drying techniques to minimize heat exposure and mechanical stress. She wraps her damp hair in a microfiber towel to absorb excess water before applying a multi-use leave-in conditioner spray that detangles and adds shine. For styling, she typically allows her naturally wavy hair to air dry, but for smoother looks, she utilizes a keratin treatment from GK to manage frizz and relax curls, which significantly reduces the need for excessive heat styling. When blow-drying, she prioritizes using a high-quality round brush to create tension at the roots and directs airflow downward with a concentrator nozzle to keep the cuticle smooth, noting that starting with partially dry hair saves time and reduces thermal damage.
To achieve volume and specific styles, Sam employs various tools depending on her desired look, ranging from overnight blowout rods for natural lift to Velcro rollers for sleek face-framing layers. She consistently sleeps on a satin pillowcase to prevent friction-induced breakage and maintain shine throughout the night. Her product lineup also includes a unique liquid-to-powder dry shampoo that refreshes hair without residue, texturizing sprays for added body, and high-gloss finishing oils that provide UV and thermal protection while creating a wet look or controlling frizz. Ultimately, she attributes her hair's success to consistency, minimal heat usage, and a disciplined routine rather than expensive supplements, proving that healthy habits and the right products are key to long-term hair growth.

Hello, welcome back to my channel or
welcome if you're new. If you don't
already know me, my name is Sam. I'm a
hair stylist and it is hair wash day for
me and I thought perfect opportunity for
me to share with you my hair care
routine and everything that I do to grow
my hair long and keep it healthy. I
guess I shouldn't have worn a black robe
to do this, but I have been on a hair
growth journey the last couple of years,
and this is the longest and healthiest
that my hair has been in a very long
time, maybe even ever. And I swear every
time I post a video, I get at least one
question about my hair. So, I thought
that I would just make a video and show
you all of the products that I use, what
I do to my hair, how I style it, and all
of that. And I'll have all of the
products and everything that I show you
linked in the description. But the first
thing is this Freyar detangling brush.
The wet brush is a good option as well,
but I love a brush that has really
flexible bristles so that it glides
through any tangles and isn't going to
create breakage.
So, since I just had my hair up in a
ponytail all day, I'm going to give it a
nice brush to make sure I don't have
tangles. I like to do this before I hop
in the shower. So that way when I'm
washing my hair, um, you know, I don't
have a bunch of tangles and I can
actually like get in there and really
cleanse all of my hair and get to my
scalp and give it a good scrub. And then
also that way I'm not having to detangle
it as much when it's wet. Cuz when your
hair is wet, it's in its most fragile
state. It's most prone to breakage. So,
it's definitely better for your hair to
brush through it while it's still dry.
Um, and also doing this
helps kind of bring the natural oils
from your scalp down through the length
of your hair. Okay. Now, normally I
would just hop right in the shower and
get to washing my hair, but every so
often I do like to do scalp oiling. I
would say I probably do it more
frequently in the winter months or just,
you know, when it tends to be drier just
to make sure that I'm nourishing my
scalp. Because as far as like growing
your hair long, yes, you need to keep
your hair healthy and make sure that
it's not breaking off at the ends, but I
mean, your hair is growing out of your
scalp obviously, so it really starts
with scalp health. making sure that your
scalp is nourished and your follicles
are clean and clear. So, yeah, every so
often scalp oiling and also some kind of
like hair treatment. So, I'm going to be
doing both at the same time. Um, so what
I like to use for the oil is 100% pure
batanana oil. And I literally just take
it
on my scalp along my part and then I do
like one to two inch
wide
sections.
and just bring it all the way
back.
And then I go around my hairline in the
front and the back
and then
along
the back of my head as well.
This stuff spreads pretty easily, so you
don't have to
go too crazy. applying that. And then I
like to take this silicone
scalp brush
and just gently do back and forth
motions. You don't want to apply too
much pressure and irritate your scalp.
Just some light pressure just to kind of
get in there. Oh, another thing I forgot
to mention.
If I had used dry shampoo or gel or like
some kind of product in my hair prior to
doing this, before I apply the oil, I
like to go through just like really
gently with my fingertips and like tips
of my nails and I kind of will like
exfoliate my scalp just so if there is
like dry shampoo or anything sitting on
there, um I don't want it to block the
oil from getting to my scalp. So,
sometimes I'll exfoliate before I apply
it, but this week I didn't put anything
like any kind of product at my roots.
So,
um
yeah, just back and forth. I just do my
entire head for a few minutes. This is
going to help spread out the oil so that
it's evenly distributing and it's also
going to stimulate blood flow to my
scalp, which is good. You want the blood
to be flowing cuz that's going to help
with hair growth and just healthy hair
in general. If I'm going to be doing
this, I may as well do a little
treatment on my ends as well. So, I'm
going to do the Ollex number three.
This is a bond building like
strengthening treatment. It's not a
conditioner. It's not going to
moisturize and hydrate your ends. It
just helps with breakage. Doing
something like this kind of allows me to
also not have to trim my hair as
frequently
cuz I'm keeping the actual like bonds of
my hair strands nice and healthy and
strong. So, I'm going to
just pull that through just the very
ends. My hair is really healthy and I
haven't colored it in a really long time
aside from like an occasional gloss and
I really put minimal heat on my hair.
So, it's really healthy. It's just kind
of like the very ends that are it's just
old hair that's just been through
more. Um, so I make sure to take care of
those. Sometimes when I do this, I will
just leave this in my hair overnight and
then wash it out in the morning or leave
it all day. But I'd say I like to leave
it like for an hour minimum. So I am
just going to gently twist this up and
clip it. And I do want to wash my hair
tonight. So I'm just going to leave it
for about an hour or so until I'm ready
to hop in the shower. and I will be back
when it's time to actually wash my hair.
Okay, it's actually been like almost 3
hours, I think. But what I love about
that botan oil is that it actually
absorbs. It's not just thick and heavy
and sits on top of your hair. And even
though I only applied it to my scalp, it
does work its way down the hair strand.
Like I can see
it worked its way all the way down to
like about here. So, not only does it
nourish my scalp, but it makes my hair
feel really soft, too. And it washes out
really easily without leaving a residue
or, you know, your hair feeling greasy
and weighed down afterwards. But now I'm
ready to wash my hair. I do a rotation.
So, for my regular shampoo and
conditioner, what I've been using for
the past few months is the Ora Gold Lust
Repair and Restore Shampoo and
Conditioner. But then I would say maybe
every like third wash day, I will use
the K18 Peptide Prep Detox Shampoo. This
is my favorite clarifying shampoo
because your hair still feels really
soft afterwards. I'm going to use this
tonight since I just did the oil and
everything. I want to make sure I'm like
really removing everything. And then
whenever I do my clarifying shampoo,
that is when I will do a mask. So that
way I'm incorporating a mask. And it
just makes sense like if you're going to
be clarifying and getting your hair like
super super clean, that's the perfect
time where it can like suck up and
absorb a conditioning treatment. So,
this is the L'Oreal Metal Detox. This is
really good. It makes my hair feel nice
and soft and conditioned. And I love
that you only have to leave it on for a
minute. Every time I wash my hair,
regardless of which shampoo I use, I
always do two shampoos. The first one
will remove whatever is kind of like
sitting on top of your hair product and
all that. And then the second one is
when you'll really get a good lather.
And I just make sure to really like get
in there and really make sure I'm like
fully cleansing my scalp. And then when
I do my conditioner
um or conditioning mask, I will just put
that from like the middle of my hair
down onto the ends. And as far as how
often I wash my hair, it really just
depends. I definitely wash it more
frequently in the summertime obviously
because I'm just out more. I'm sweating
more, going to the beach, that kind of
thing. Because I don't color my hair and
I'm not putting heat on it every single
time I wash it. I'm not really too
worried about how often I wash it. If
your scalp is feeling dirty, wash it.
I'm going to go do that now. I will see
you when I get out of the shower. So, as
soon as I get out of the shower, I wrap
my hair in one of these microfiber Turby
Twist kind of towel things just to
absorb the excess water so it's not
dripping wet. And then I'll spray in
some kind of detangler. This is from the
brand Surface. It's the All-In leave-in
conditioner. It detangles, protects, and
adds shine. I love multi-use products
like this. So, it's a 10 is something
that's really similar. The Mazani 24
Miracle Milk, I use that at the salon on
all my clients. That's another one. It
helps detangle my hair and then it's
also a leave-in,
helps with frizz, add shine, all the
good things without having to have like
three or four different products. Um,
and I like a spray version of a product
like that because I feel like then I can
just kind of evenly distribute it
through my hair and I don't have to
worry about like accidentally getting
too much in one spot um, and it being
too heavy or anything like that. And
then I'm going to take that same gentle
uh, detangling brush and just brush
through my hair. And my hair is
naturally, I mean, as you can see here,
I um I do keratin treatments on it to
help relax my natural curls a bit. But I
do have curly hair naturally. And I
would say these days, especially now
that my hair is so long and because I do
the keratins on it, which I'll talk
about that in a little bit, but it just
makes my hair so much more manageable.
So, I would say 90% of the time I just
let it air dry and I wear it naturally
wavy. And today, for the sake of this
video, I am going to blow it out smooth.
But even on the days when I do just let
it air dry and wear it natural,
my after the shower routine is still
exactly the same. So, detangling
leave-in conditioner spray. Brush that
through. Then I take some hair oil. This
is the Ora Gold Lust Nourishing Hair
Oil. same line as the shampoo and
conditioner. I just love the smell of
all the products from this line. So,
I'll take like one to two pumps of that
and I just focus that on the very ends.
Um,
and that is it for now. That's all I do
while my hair is still wet. Um, and then
whatever is like left on my hands, I'm
just kind of
combing it through a little bit with my
fingers.
So, now I'm just gonna let it air dry a
good amount. Um, like I said, if I was
going to just wear it natural, I would
just leave it be and let it air dry. I
try like if I'm washing my hair at night
like I am today and I'm planning on just
letting it air dry, I try to let it dry
at least like 80% of the way before I go
to sleep because you don't want to sleep
on wet hair.
Like I said, it's most prone to breakage
when it's wet. And when you're sleeping
and you're like tossing and turning,
it's just, you know, can cause breakage.
It's not great for your hair. But I'm
still going to let it air dry a good
amount before I go in with my blow dryer
just because it saves me a lot of time.
Like if I were to start blow drying it
with it stopping wet like this, it would
take twice as long. That way it'll save
me time and then also it's less heat
that I'm having to apply to my hair
obviously. So yeah, I will be back once
it's time to blow dry. Okay. So, you can
see my hair is still pretty damp. It's a
little more wet like underneath, but I
would say it's like 80% dry at this
point. And this is
how it just naturally air dries. My
keratin treatment is definitely wearing
off cuz it's been about 3 months since I
last did it. So, my hair is starting to
get a little bit more curly. Whereas,
when the keratin is fresh, it's more
relaxed than this and more of like a
loose wave. So, I don't know. I'll
probably refresh that in a few months.
So, the keratin treatment that I use is
from the brand GK. I just order it
online from their website. I have a vlog
from the most recent time that I did it.
I'll link that down below if you want to
see the process of me doing that. Like I
said, all it does is just helps with the
frizz. Um, it allows me when I'm blow
drying my hair smooth to just get it
smooth and straight way faster. And
then, you know, throughout the summer
with the humidity and everything, it
kind of just like helps my hair not get
as frizzy and poofy and makes my curls
more relaxed. It allows me to not put
heat on it as much cuz it just makes my
hair like easier and more manageable.
and it just naturally fades from your
hair after about like 3 to 4ish months.
A newerish
favorite product of mine that is a
musthave whenever I'm blowing my hair
out is the K18 Astro Lift. Oh my god,
this stuff is amazing. You can use it
even just like on air dried hair. You
don't have to use it
just when you're doing a blowout, but it
adds so much body and volume to my hair.
It also smells really good. So, I just
spray this
all over the place,
root to ends.
I do have the Dyson Supersonic Blow
dryer. I've had this for many years. I
do really like it. It's super powerful
and it gets my hair dry and smooth fast
um without getting crazy hot. You don't
need a $400 blow dryer to, you know, get
a nice blowout. Honestly, I think what's
more important than the blow dryer is
your brush. Don't mind how disgusting
and hairy this is. I need to clean it.
But um a good round brush that can
really grip your hair and get good
tension is the key to a nice salon
quality blowout. I love Olivia Gardens
round brushes. I'll link this. I'm also
going to link the ones that I use at the
salon cuz I love those probably even
more than this. But really any Olivia
Garden round brush is good. I want to
say this is probably like a 1 and 1/2 in
brush, which is a good size because it
allows me to like get close to my root.
Um, and then if I want to do like a
little bit of a curly situation on the
ends, I can do that. But honestly,
you'll see. I'm just going to speed
through this really quick. So, I just do
highest heat, highest speed.
There we go. Easy, quick.
Having it already be
kind of dry
really helps save time.
And yeah, I just go section by section.
I try to not take too thick of a
section. Um, so that way I can really
like get it fully smooth. Um, and as you
can see, all I'm really focusing on is
getting really tight tension from the
root. And then having a concentrator
attachment on your blow dryer is very
helpful because it'll help focus all of
the air in one direction so it's not
blowing your hair all over the place and
like, you know, pushing the cuticle
around. Um, you want to keep it smooth
and pointing down. And yeah, I just
focus on that. And then once the top is
dry, I focus on the ends and just
getting those smooth. And I'm not
worrying about like overdirecting and
doing all that kind of stuff until I get
to the section at the very top. I'm
gonna set this before I go to sleep. And
that's going to give me the volume
overnight.
[music]
>> [music]
[music]
>> Heat. Heat. [music]
>> [music]
>> So when I get to the front, I kind of
pull everything forward, get it nice and
smooth, and then I take horizontal
sections
and I put my round brush behind. Okay.
And that
helps me get
a little more volume at the top. I love
seeing my hair smooth because then I can
really see how long it's getting. Then
from here, it kind of depends. Sometimes
I will just leave it and just wear it
straight. Sometimes I will use a curling
iron to kind of like flip out the ends a
little bit more or add loose barrel
curls. Um, sometimes if I really want to
get as much volume as possible
and have like a nice voluminous blowout
kind of look in the morning,
I will
sleep with a overnight blowout rods. So,
I take the front section like you know
what my bangs would be and a Velcro
roller
and start from the bottom and wrap. And
even when I do this, like if I had like
a special event or something tomorrow
and I really wanted my hair to be like
va va voom.
Oh, I made this section a little too
thick actually.
But yeah, if I really wanted this to be
like va va voom, like I said, I would
either like use my curling iron first to
like flip the ends and then wrap it like
this to set it, or I could take my blow
dryer and like wrap my hair around the
round brush on high heat and then set it
with the cool shot button
before wrapping it. But honestly,
when you are doing other people's hair
all day every day, when it comes time to
do your own, you're just like whatever.
[laughter] Whatever is going to be like
the fastest and easiest thing, which is
why a lot of the time I just uh let my
hair air dry,
but okay. So then I take the remaining
hair and I split it in half going across
and then the top section
I split
in half down the middle to make two side
sections and I take these blowout rods,
one on each side.
I've just found doing it this way
is the easiest thing
with the length of my hair at the
moment. It's just like ends up being the
most comfortable and I like the results
that I get cuz it doesn't make any like
weird kinks at my root area. And these
ones are nice because
they're velvet which makes your hair
like nice and shiny and smooth. And they
have the hooks
so it holds them in place throughout the
night. And they stay very secure. I've
never had an issue with them falling out
while I sleep. And they're like really
really cushiony, so they're comfortable.
And then this last section I just take
from the back
and pull it down to the ends.
just just try to do it the best I can.
It's hard now that my hair is like past
a certain length. It's tricky to um wrap
it.
Oh, I definitely missed a couple pieces.
Um
that's okay.
Just wrap that up there. It doesn't have
to be perfect. Whatever. There we go.
So, we got the front like face frame
pieces wrapped.
We got the sides wrapped. And then we
got the back. And I like to wrap I don't
know if you saw that, but I like to wrap
under so that when it all falls down, my
layers like swoop in towards my face. If
you want them to swoop out and like flip
up on the ends, wrap it the other way.
But I just like how that looks. cuz I
feel like it looks
really sleek. I don't know. I am going
to sleep like this. Oh, another thing. I
do always sleep with a satin pillow
case. I've been doing this for years
now. It's just a lot gentler on your
hair. It just helps again with like
breakage and shine and overall hair
health. I'm going to go to sleep. I will
see you in the morning when it's time to
take this out. Good morning.
All right, let's see what we got.
I mean, look at that.
And the volume.
Mhm.
Really quick, I feel like I cannot do a
video talking about my hair care routine
and favorite hair products without also
showing you this stuff. My absolute
favorite dry shampoo ever, ever out of
all of the ones that I've tried
throughout the years is the K18 air
wash. It is a liquid to powder dry
shampoo. So, it's not your traditional
like aerosol spray. It is truly magic. I
don't know what else to say about it.
Like, it does not leave a white cast. It
works so well. I feel like other dry
shampoos, even the ones that are good
that it still feels like dry shampoo.
Like, yeah, it makes your hair less
oily, but it just feels like you use dry
shampoo. This literally makes your hair
feel like you just washed it again. It
makes it feel like it's clean and
refreshed. I don't know how it works,
but it's amazing.
Trust me, if you've never tried it
before, highly, highly, highly
recommend. I also really like the Orbe
dry texturizing spray. This is really
good for adding volume. The days that I
do have my hair blown out smooth or I
put like, you know, curling iron curls
in it or something like that and I want
to like give it more volume and texture,
especially like day two or three, it
just starts to get kind of flat. This
justes it up and gives it really nice
texture without being too like stiff or
crunchy or leaving a weird residue. The
Ollex number six leave-in styling
treatment mixed with the number seven
oil is a must for me, especially in the
summertime. If I am going to be going to
the beach or the pool and I know I'm
going to be getting my hair, you know,
wet with salt water or chlorine water or
something, I love to mix the two of
these together and run it through my
hair. So that way my hair doesn't end up
absorbing the chlorinated water as much.
Um, it just helps to add extra
protection.
And this oil has UV and thermal
protection as well. So, it helps to
protect my hair from the sun so that I'm
not getting heat damage from being out
in the sun cuz down here in North
Carolina, the sun is intense. And then
the last thing, this is like
a holy grail product for me. I love it.
It is amazing. I have not found anything
else that works like it. This is the
ColorW and Lock High Gloss Finish. Oh,
this also has UV protection. I just
realized, but it's frizz control. So, I
love to use this whenever I am wearing
some kind of like texture to my hair.
beach waves, curly, natural, or even if
I'm doing like some kind of like half
up, slick back, whatever kind of style,
you can use a little bit of this to just
kind of like give you a little bit of
frizz control and it makes your hair
look really shiny and just gives this
gloss-like finish to it. Or if I'm going
for that wet hair look, which I have
been loving doing all summer long, um I
just leave my hair natural with like,
you know, the nice loose beachy waves.
And then you can take a lot of this,
like I'll go section by section and take
multiple pumps and run it through my
hair from root to end. And it creates
that wet look without making your hair
crunchy or leave like a weird white cast
or anything like that. It's just it's so
good. It really is like a multi-use kind
of product and I love it. So, yeah, that
is my hair care routine. Those are the
products that I use on a regular basis.
My hair, it's getting there. I want to
keep letting it grow. Um, but
considering like, you know, two summers
ago it was to my jaw,
it's gotten pretty long and it feels so
good and healthy. I don't take any kind
of supplements or vitamins or anything
special for hair growth. That's just it.
That's everything that I do. So, like I
said, I will have everything that I
shared linked down in the description.
So, go check that out. And yeah, let me
know if you have any questions.
um or any video requests. If there's
like any kind of tutorials or just
specific hair education related content
you want, I'd be happy to do that. But
that is going to be it for this video.
Thank you so much for watching and I'll
see you in my next one. Bye.
