Video summary
Aaron Boone's career is defined by a notorious reputation for frequent conflicts with umpires, resulting in numerous ejections that stem from his intense scrutiny of pitch calls, replay reviews, and rule interpretations. Throughout his tenure, Boone has been described as "easy to lip read," often erupting in frustration over decisions he believes are incorrect, such as ruling fan interference on catches he deemed impossible or missing critical replay checks regarding injuries. His disputes frequently center on the location of pitches relative to the strike zone, where he argues that balls called strikes were actually outside or low, citing player height and specific game situations involving teammates like Aaron Judge, Gary Sanchez, and Brett Gardner. These arguments often escalate from verbal objections to physical gestures, including spitting gum on the field, drawing lines in the dirt to demonstrate pitch locations, and throwing equipment, all driven by his protective nature toward his players who he refuses to let face umpire scrutiny alone.
The tension between Boone and officials has led to several high-profile incidents involving specific umpires like Joe West, Lance Barrett, and Vic Carapazza, with the latter being notably responsible for five of Boone's ejections. One significant event occurred when Boone attempted to challenge a call immediately after hearing umpires discuss it, only to be ejected for missing the fifteen-second window; he contended that officials mishandled the rules by showing him the replay without informing him he could still challenge. Another pivotal moment involved a game against the Marlins where Boone was ejected after arguing that a ball hit by Aaron Judge was a home run rather than a foul ball, insisting that other players and cameras saw it as fair while the umpire ruled otherwise. Similarly, in extra innings, Boone faced ejection after vehemently arguing that a foul ball call stood despite his belief that the replay system confirmed an incorrect decision, highlighting the recurring theme of his inability to accept calls he perceives as wrong.
The final chapter of this marathon breakdown details Boone's fiftieth career expulsion, which occurred during a game against the Astros and Yankees involving multiple contentious plays. In one instance, umpire Brian Walsh incorrectly called four balls instead of strikes on pitches to Taylor Trammell, prompting Devin Williams to walk off the mound; Boone confronted Walsh for "blewing a big game" before being ejected himself. Following his ejection, Boone returned to the dugout to hand notes to bench coach Blanche Brad and continued arguing with umpire Adrian Johnson about a play at third base where Ryan McMahon was called out on a transfer, despite video evidence suggesting it should have been ruled a catch. The segment concludes by emphasizing the underlying tension between players needing to challenge bad calls and umpires making real-time decisions, noting that this series of events contributed to the game being labeled one of the worst-called of the year, cementing Boone's legacy as a player whose passionate defense of his team often led to his removal from the field.

Congratulations to Aaron Boone, the big
5-0,
50 career ejections. Easily the manager
I've made the most breakdown videos of
cuz every time he gets ejected I
basically make a video. He's very easy
to lip read. It's a lot of fun.
Congrats, Aaron. Here's every video I've
made over your career getting ejected.
All right, we got a replay review and
ejection here in this game. Here's the
if fan interference. It's fan
interference, no doubt. This kid, you're
a god damn idiot if you're a Yankees
fan, you're dumb. They call it an out.
Now, they have the option to just call
this a double, a ground rule double.
They call it out saying Gordon would
have made that catch and Boone goes a
little crazy. He goes, "Did you Did you
just call him out? What?" He lets the
ump talk for a little bit here. He says,
"You [ __ ] would not have caught it.
[ __ ] horse [ __ ] That's [ __ ]
[ __ ] You're out of here. Oh, [ __ ]
you. [ __ ] all of you. He wouldn't have
[ __ ] caught that." He's mad.
That's my favorite little one right
there. Just a nice Just a nice snap from
Boone. [ __ ] All right, I did my best to
find out what Boone was saying when he
got ejected here. You got to know going
into this that Boone hates replay
because they messed him up on the Glaber
call a couple games back. They messed
him up earlier in this game. He hates
the replay officials. He's asking them,
"Can you check if it hit him in the
foot?" They go and check. They're
looking at this play right here. Wade
said it hit him. I don't think it hit
him. I don't think there's any way
they're going to change that. So, they
don't. And Boone says, "You can't check
it?"
Huh?
I'm asking you, can you go check it? I
don't have a replay. He already used his
replay, got it wrong, so he doesn't have
a replay. So, he's asking the umps to do
him a solid and go check it. The ump's
like, "No, we don't have it, so we're
not going to check it." I don't know
what he says here.
I think he says something like, "This
has been a [ __ ] bad game."
He gets thrown out.
Takes the gum out. Stocks the umpire
down. Umpire's like, "This is going to
suck. I don't want to hear this. Boone's
like, okay, what am I going to say?
Think of something good. Think of
something good, Boonie. Okay, I got it.
Here we go.
Starts asking him like, why'd you throw
me out? I'm not talking about that. And
then the ump's like, you can't question
that. And Boone's basically saying, I
know.
I'm not questioning the [ __ ] rule.
I'm not questioning you.
I believe that. He goes, horse [ __ ] over
there, and now we got horse [ __ ] over
here, and over there he's getting hit,
and that's [ __ ] [ __ ]
>> [laughter]
>> He's like, I asked [clears throat] you
to replay, and you're like,
>> [laughter]
>> [ __ ]
Go check yourselves. The Yankees and the
Rays have a double-header today and a
lot of rain in the forecast, so it's
going to be a long day, and Boone got
ejected early. That pitch called a ball
looked pretty good. This pitch called a
ball looked pretty good.
This next pitch called a ball looked
pretty good. Now, Gary's not really
catching and framing these the best, but
those are coming across right at the
knees. Gary turns around and says
something, which he never does. He's
pretty quiet. He's like, yo, that's
really, really bad. Next up, this pitch
the judge just called a strike, and he's
like, god damn it, man. I'm super tall.
I'm 6'7". Like, did you forget how tall
I was? Look at Look at my knees. Look at
your knees.
Later on, Brett Gardner got called up on
a pitch he thought was inside, and he's
going to just bang his bat around until
he founds finds the lot loudest spot.
Hot mics galore.
Hicks is smiling there, trying to hold
it in.
>> REALLY BAD START.
>> [laughter]
>> [ __ ]
>> THAT'S SO FAR OUTSIDE.
THAT'S SO FAR outside right there.
>> I love that cuz DJ's like, I know
everyone's riding you, and they're being
pretty mean, but like, if we're being
honest, that was like a really outside
pitch.
How awesome was that? He's complimented
his players, said they were savages. He
complimented the other pitcher, said
he's a good pitcher. He told the ump he
felt bad for him. Empathy, and he wanted
him to get better. He said, "Tighten it
up." A little encouragement. It had it
all. Now, I know I'm biased, but I
thought that was one of the better rants
from a manager getting ejected we've
had. There were a lot of ejections in
the Yankees game today. Cameron Maybin
didn't like pitch one there, so Boone
leans in. He's like, "Well, that was the
second pitch." Boone leans in. Then the
end the at bat, he rings him up on that
pitch. Thought he had the walk, gets KD.
You serious? Absolutely. You're crazy,
man. That's crazy. Here's the pitch.
It's outside. I think the first one was
a strike, but that one's definitely not
a strike. Ump's looking in the dugout.
Who's going to say something? You guys
saying something? You said something?
Okay. Well, you're out of here. Bam!
Why?
That was so fast. Boyd's got a point
there. It was pretty quick. This this
fan's going to give him the business.
Bam! I understand pitches that are a
little bit off of the plate.
But when we're something on strikes and
they score two runs, we're going to be
pissed off. I get it. You get it? How do
you miss that? Where are you actually
seeing that pitch? That's up. Up?
OH MY GOSH. You're saying you fall for
that? You call that up?
You've got to be [ __ ] Tighten it up.
Tighten it up. Voit likes it he's
banging. Brett Gardner's thinking is
should I bang my bat?
Am I going to bang my bat again? And
that last one was a ball, too. It was
low.
Raven says, "Can't hit the ball off the
plate." Gardy fixes the roof a little.
Um says, "Point some out." I don't know
if he ejected him. That fan loved it
though. WHAT'S THAT? OH, MORE BUSINESS.
That's horse [ __ ] Tommy. He didn't say
a [ __ ] word. And now Phil Cuzzi runs
over. He's like, "You did this.
You did this. You did this." Why is Phil
Cuzzi running over? This was definitely
itching for an ejection. Phil Cuzzi
wanted to throw him out. CC
>> [laughter]
>> CC's giving the business. He's going to
get ejected. Romine's like, "God damn,
I'm out. I'm out. I don't want to get
ejected. I'm not even going to look at
him." What the [ __ ] did you do to throw
me out then?
I did not do that. I did not do that. As
per the rules, [ __ ] this is
terrible. [ __ ] terrible.
So [ __ ] Soft. Who threw me out then?
Well, he yelled at you, but then I think
he threw you out. Gardy's like, "Wait,
what? You know what? Might as well get
my bat banging in. If I'm already
ejected, y'all fix this roof. This is
going to go really good. Just get the
dents out." Glaber's looking. Brett
turns. Glaber's like, "Oh, I wasn't
looking. Wasn't looking, Brett. Didn't
say a [ __ ] word." Stanton is back
from injury trying to get some reps in,
see some pitches, find his groove. And
that's a tough pitch. I think it's a
strike, but it's a hard one to hit and
you just hope the ump doesn't call it.
Next one, little lower and that gets
called a strike, too. Look at that one.
I don't know if it clicked it. It's a
really, really good pitch. [ __ ] A,
let's go. That's what Boone says.
Stanton lays off that one. Like like
that, Stan. Next pitch, good job by
Zoey. He just keeps peppering that same
spot cuz he's getting the call. And
Stan's like, "Dude, I don't want to
swing at that cuz I don't think it's a
strike, but you keep calling it a
strike." That one was even low more
inside. Boone's not happy in the dugout.
[ __ ] kidding me?
The way you [ __ ] look at him for?
[ __ ] [ __ ] [ __ ] check
yourself. Let's go.
[ __ ] Not happy about it. It's the
first thing. There's some leftover
frustration. Joe West starts saying, "I
says, I got nothing to say to you." Joe
West is like, "Well, I got something to
say to you. It's that you're out of this
game. Boom." Perfect form. Repping Nike.
Wow. Great Great get, Nike. Great get.
Boone's going to run out and be like,
"Hey, what the hell? You probably can't
even hear what I'm saying all the way
out here."
Uh well, you were talking and you look
like you were yelling at my guy and he
did good. So, you just threw you out.
You care too much. So, just get out of
here. And Boone's like, "What the [ __ ]
are you talking about?
This [ __ ] You can't throw me out."
And now he's going to get into him about
yesterday cuz yesterday Joe West was
terrible behind the plate in the ninth
inning. This horse [ __ ] and you know it.
And yesterday that was horse [ __ ] too.
You called that strike on Gardner. It
was [ __ ] And Joe West is like,
"What are you talking about?" He's like,
"You know what I'm talking about. This
pitch is what I'm talking about. Pretty
outside. Should be ball four. Tying run
on first. Just an egregious call by Joe
West." Now, the hitting coach is yelling
at the ump and he's like, "Hey, knock it
off. I'm going to throw you out, too.
Everyone's getting thrown out." Boone
has to decide if they're going to
challenge it and then what they're going
to challenge. Are they going to
challenge out at third? Or are they
going to challenge that DJ was safe
before Judge was tagged out? And you can
see while he's just standing there
waiting for his coach to hear the
decision, you can hear voices of the
umpires. I don't know if this is one
voice you're going to hear or two voices
you're going to hear. But, you hear one
umpire It sounds like two to me. You
hear one umpire say, "Hey, we got a hard
out." And then the next one immediately
goes, "That's it. Time's out. You're
done." As soon as Boone hears that, he
immediately calls for a challenge before
even hearing from his coaches.
Listening.
So, now every Yankee head is turned.
Basically, you can see the replay guy
stunned. As soon as Boone heard the
timer had started, he just said, "Okay,
replay replay replay. We'll figure out
what we're replaying afterwards." And
then the guy just says, "Nope, time was
up." And now Boone gets mad. He says,
"You can't do that. You didn't even look
at me. YOU DIDN'T EVEN [ __ ] LOOK AT
ME.
[ __ ] YOU.
BULLSHIT." UM THROWS him out. Um says,
"It's not [ __ ] Aaron."
>> [laughter]
>> "That's not It's not what happened,
Aaron. You know when it's time." And
Boone's just saying, "Bullshit, doll.
Not all of them." I don't really know
what that means, but Boone's just GO,
"BULLSHIT.
THAT'S [ __ ] HORSE [ __ ] CRAIG. IT'S
HORSE [ __ ] IT'S [ __ ] HORSE [ __ ]
It's [ __ ] horse [ __ ] No, you did
not.
>> [laughter]
>> I don't know what he says here. But then
Boone's going to run off. He's pretty
mad. He wanted a challenge. He didn't
give enough time to challenge. Takes his
gum, throws it in the direction of that
way, and says, "I'm out of here." How
funny is that right there? That's just
so so angry and [ __ ] Just Boone got
so angry he like lost control of his
fingers. "OH, [ __ ] YOU."
>> [laughter]
>> FIRST PITCH, SLIDER, MISSES, BALL. Next
pitch, fastball, right down the middle,
fouled back. The one and one,
down, slider. The two and one, slider
for a strike? Oh, no. Canha says, "Yeah,
okay, I saw it the whole way. It was a
ball." They thought it was in here, so
3-1, they're going to go fastball, and
they don't get the call, and Gary's
like, "Come on, where was that?" And
Boone says, "Hey.
Hey, where's that pitch, Shawn?" And
Shawn says, "Down." He says, "Hey, I got
to ask this. Where's that pitch?" He
says, "Down." HE SAYS, "BULLSHIT.
[ __ ] NOT CLOSE.
LET'S [ __ ] GO.
[ __ ] DOWN, THAT'S HORSE [ __ ]
GET YOUR HEAD out of your [ __ ] ASS.
IT'S [ __ ] LOW, BUT [ __ ] it's
down.
Um's like, "It's down. [ __ ] let's go.
Um says, okay, enough. Get out of here.
You're ejected. I don't want you around.
He says, [ __ ] [ __ ] that's down.
No [ __ ] chance that's [ __ ] down.
NO [ __ ] CHANCE. YOU'RE TELLING ME
THAT PICTURE is down? What? It was down.
I got to tell you, that was not [ __ ]
down. You got to pick it up. You got to
pick it up.
That's what Aaron Boone does. Just
nothing but facts.
Crowd's all amped up. This dude's
wearing a beautiful shirt in the front
row. Let Brett bang. Wonder who made
that one. And Boone is going to toss the
gum on the field. Enough. I've had it.
Loaisiga is on the bump. Dyson's at
second. He bends down. He looks in for
the signs. He says, you know what? I'm
not feeling too comfortable. He steps
off. Home plate um says, that's a balk.
That's a balk. Now he hasn't even thrown
a pitch and the runner on first has gone
from first to second to third. And this
is what it is. Like, can you see what it
is? Supposedly,
the umpire says that he started coming
to home plate and then stopped. It's
called a start and stop balk. Doesn't
look like anything to me. It looks like
he takes his back foot and just steps
off the rubber. Or saw cuz he saw it. I
mean, he pointed it out right away. He
said, that's a balk. That's a balk. And
Boone was not happy. He was like, no, he
went right into stepping off.
[ __ ] no way.
[ __ ] terrible.
>> [laughter]
>> And then Boone walks away. He puts his
mask on. I came back to the game. And
then Boone says, you know what? I'm not
done. And he says, hey, you're gone. And
then Boone says,
why the [ __ ] you throw me out? What?
Why? I told you to stop. Boone starts
pointing at home plate. And the umpire
says, are you talking about the play at
the plate? Boone says, no, I I'm talking
about the balk you just called. And the
umpire says, no, I had him start and
stop. [ __ ] I told you to stop and
you kept going.
I don't want to throw you out there.
>> [laughter]
>> I told you to stop and you kept going. I
don't want to throw you out there.
>> [laughter]
>> Boone's like, "Okay, well, mad." And he
says, "Well, okay, you're mad. I'm mad,
too, I guess." And then he goes their
separate ways and then Boone says, "You
know what? I got something else to say.
I didn't like the call at home plate,
either. Since you brought it up, I'll
just let you know." Umpire says, "Okay,
all right, we're good to play. Everyone
good?" And the catcher, he says, "Hey,
do you want to throw the changeup again?
Seemed like you had control of that."
And he says, "No, I don't want to throw
it." And then he says, "Okay, we want
the fastball." He says, "No, actually I
do want the changeup." Probably a fake
shake to get Gallo thinking. Changeup
outside, ball four. Oh, no, umpire rings
him up. Joey Gallo's not happy. He says,
"That's off." He says, "Yeah, that's
Yeah, yes, it is. That's [ __ ] off.
100%
[ __ ] horse shit." And here's a look
at the pitch and yeah, it's outside. It
probably should have been called ball
four. Boone he says, "Bullshit.
Don't [ __ ] come after me. You've got
to step it up." So, I think the umpire
was looking at Boone or yelling at Boone
and Boone's like, "Don't yell at me.
Yell at yourself. You're the ONE BLOWING
CALLS. FUCK." Then the umpire's just
going to stare at Boone saying like,
"Hey, you got anything else to say? You
got anything else to say?" And Boone
says, "Don't [ __ ] Oh, you're throwing
out. [ __ ] you.
[ __ ] let's go.
You're [ __ ] horse [ __ ] Don't [ __ ]
come and stare at me. Your problem.
That's not on the [ __ ] plate.
And you're [ __ ] too busy." I don't
know what the rest of that sentence was,
but then the umpire said, "Oh, oh, oh,
really?" Now, Boone's going to go draw
him a picture, kick the dirt, and say,
"All right, that's a [ __ ] ball.
You've got to clean it up right now. All
right? We're playing a hard game here."
And then everyone's laughing on the
bench. It's Rizzo and Gallo's first
experience seeing Boone when he flips
the switch. Voit's laughing. Judge and
Gardy, though, they're just like, "Yep,
yep, yep, that's Boone, okay." And Boone
he keeps yelling at him. He wants him to
admit that it's off the plate or at
least understand that it was a bad call,
but he won't. Boone's like, "Yeah, you
just look at that and you say, 'Oh,
that's a [ __ ] strike.' [ __ ]
That's a [ __ ] horse [ __ ] call. My
guys know it over there. They got a
better sense of the zone. You got to
clean it up." The umpire did not like
that clap. Calls Boone back and he says,
"You just clapped in my face."
>> [laughter]
>> Oh, yeah, you did. Yeah, you did.
Boone's like, "Well, I was encouraging
you. I was telling you to get it
better." So, "I don't like being clapped
in the face." Now, Gallo is over there
like, "Thanks, Dad. Thanks, Dad. I
appreciate it. Appreciate it. That was
very nice of you." And Boone is off and
he takes all of his secrets and he
passes it to the bench coach and he's
going to leave because he got ejected
arguing in the second inning. Stan, the
next batter [clears throat] takes his
3-2 fastball, not 3-2 changeup, and it
sends it deep to center field. Home run.
Good call by that fan. And Judge is just
sitting there like, "Yeah. Oh, yeah.
That was a bomb. Yeah, oh, out there."
Aaron Boone just sparking the clubhouse.
2-0 pitch to Judge and inside they say
strike. Maybe that was a strike. It's a
nice pitch. Boone chewing a little more
intensely now as he watches on. Now, in
Judge's last at bat, he struck out a
ball below the knees. So, this pitch is
called a strike and I actually I think
that's probably a nice pitch and crosses
in the zone and above his knees, but it
comes in lower. So, if you're just
looking at the glove. And like I said,
Boone was already on high alert. So, the
ump calls that a strike and now Boone is
going to yell, "MAKE THE [ __ ]
ADJUSTMENT."
"MAKE THE [ __ ] ADJUSTMENT." Umpire
says, "Adjust that. You're out of here."
Boone takes his gum, tosses it. "Fucking
make the adjustment. You just missed the
same [ __ ] call. What was wrong with
that pitch? THAT BALL IS [ __ ] DOWN.
HE'S 6 [ __ ] 7." UMP SAYS, "He's 6 7.
That's a strike if he's 6-8. Boone says
they're low. No, they're not. That ball
is [ __ ] down.
Get out of my face. Get out of my face.
WELL, MAKE THE [ __ ] ADJUSTMENT. You
spit on me.
You just spit on me. You make the
adjustment. YOU MAKE THE [ __ ]
ADJUSTMENT. NO, YOU. NO, YOU. YOU MAKE
THE ADJUSTMENT, BOONE. [ __ ] You
make the adjustment. He's [ __ ]
pitching around him and you're [ __ ]
calling strikes in the dirt. 1-2 count
to Judge and that pitch is called strike
three. Judge doesn't like it. But, what
are we doing? Boone doesn't like it.
They're sick of these calls going
against Judge and Boone's going to let
him know and he says, he's laughing at
your ass.
He's laughing.
They're laughing at you. That's how bad
you are. Takes his gum out, decides on
it, puts it back in. He's going to keep
chewing that. Next pitch is to Rizzo and
same thing. Says, just keep calling it.
Hey, let's just continue this. Yeah,
that's fun. He's like, he was laughing
at me? Vasquez was laughing at me? What?
Boone blows a bubble and then oh, wow.
Sexy as all get out. Practice swing like
a man, no gloves, mustache, little
oh, little foot wiggle, back leg wiggle,
lots of wiggling, grounding himself,
getting set. They're getting set, comes
to stiff, still. Throw it in there, kid.
Let me hit it. That's low. Called a
strike. Carp's like, nah-uh. Nah-uh. No
way. It's not too late. It's not too
late. You're out of here.
It's not too late. So, he's telling him
it's not too late to make the
adjustment, change his zone, start
calling those strikes. The game is still
going. It's not too late. It's not too
late. They're strikes. Just because you
keep calling them they're [ __ ] balls.
Rizzo's is a ball. The low pitch on
Judge is a ball. This is a [ __ ] ball.
He's laughing at your [ __ ] ass.
Really throwing Festus under the bus
who's standing right there like, "Hey,
be cool, Boone. Be cool. I was I He
didn't know I was laughing at him."
Okay, it's not too late. Really letting
him know. It's not too [ __ ] late.
Come on, Boone. Come on nothing. It's
not too [ __ ] late. There's a whole
lot of game left. There's time to get
better. Come on.
The balls are down.
I don't give two [ __ ] about the [ __ ]
buffer zone. What's the buffer zone, you
ask? Well, the MLB umpires have
uh a 2-in buffer zone on either sides of
the plate up and down where they don't
get penalized for getting calls wrong in
those areas. Umpire says, "All right,
now let's go, okay? It's not too late.
It's not too late.
It's not too late. That's all I'm
saying. I promise you those are down.
Okay? They're [ __ ] down.
They're [ __ ] down.
It's not too late.
>> [laughter]
>> That kid's asleep. Too late for that kid
to be out of the game. And Boone is Oh,
he's chucking his gum. Finally finished
it. Thought about it earlier. Umpire
takes a peek. He wants to see a gum
throw. Who doesn't? Turns to the catcher
and he's like, "Hey, man, were you
laughing at me?" Carpenter's up.
Outside, too far outside, then the
curveball outside a strike and they're
like, "Come on, man. Again?
Just cuz you keep calling it, Eddie.
Just cuz you keep calling it doesn't
make it a strike.
You're gone. Get out of here." Boone
takes the gum out of his mouth, tosses
it. That's what he always does. He needs
a clean mouth to argue and he says, "You
just keep calling it. It's not a strike.
Just cuz you keep calling it doesn't
make it a strike. It's [ __ ] hot out
here, but I don't know how you can stand
there and see a ball that [ __ ] far
off. You have 3 [ __ ] 2 with the bases
loaded and nobody out and it was that
far off the plate. I don't know how you
can stand back there, look at that, and
call it a strike."
And then he's like, "I'm so hot. What
are you talking about?" And he says,
"Come here. Look, I'll show you. It's
that far off. Come on. Come follow me."
And the umpire just follows him and
says, "Okay, what are you showing me?"
"A [ __ ] ball. I understand he's
throwing gas. All right. I get it, but
those pitches are not even close. You
got the game on the [ __ ] line right
now. Let's go."
And he's out. And the umpire's just
standing there like,
"I'm 60 years old.
It's hot as hell.
And you want me to just call 100 mile an
hour pitches balls or strikes, an inch
off the plate or not? Why
Why Why This should be a robot's job.
Like, why don't we go make sure Tito
doesn't want to challenge? Like, hey,
Terry, you sure you don't want to
challenge? Cuz did you see what we just
saw on the replay? And Boone's like,
"You better not be doing what I think
you're doing. You better not be Don't
put that earpiece in. Don't put Oh boy."
He comes out. Now he's about to lose his
mind on him. "Bullshit. [ __ ]
He ain't challenging [ __ ] [ __ ]
He's got to let you know right away. You
guys missed the first runner and I
looked at it and I didn't [ __ ]
challenge it. [ __ ] He can't [ __ ]
challenge. No [ __ ] way he can
challenge." So, Boone's mad because he's
like, "You just gifted him a challenge.
We were all playing the same game. Bull
[ __ ] [ __ ] [ __ ]
I didn't challenge the runner back here
and then you guys go meet and then you
walk up to him and you're like, "Him
[ __ ] challenge? What's that about?"
He's like, "No, hold up. Hold up. We're
just trying to get the play right. We're
just trying to get it right, Boone."
He's like,
"Huh?"
"No, you can't. This is something that
changed from last year where they're
like, "The managers have a strict 15
seconds to challenge, and that's all."
And that's why Boone is so fired up, cuz
you're going to see him say, "That's
horse [ __ ] YOU GUYS [ __ ] did this to
us all spring. Now, THIS IS HOW IT'S
[ __ ] HANDLED?"
"STOP. HEY, you need TO STOP." "OH,
[ __ ] I NEED to [ __ ] stop? You guys
[ __ ] let him challenge after he could
see it on the [ __ ] board." Now,
they're clapping cuz he got ejected.
Boone's like, "Did you just throw me
out?" "Yes. Okay. All right. Well,
whatever. Back to the point. You didn't
challenge You see IT ON THE [ __ ]
BOARD."
"BLAH. IT'S [ __ ] bullshit." He's mad.
He doesn't know he's walking over there.
He's a mad that guy double birds him in
the background. God damn it. "What are
you doing? IT'S [ __ ] CALL after call.
All winter long. All spring. This is
what you told us. You have five 15
seconds. You get the chance. You have 15
seconds. You get the chance. And then
you [ __ ] it up. Get it the [ __ ]
together. It's bullshit."
Fans are cheering. Boone is leaving.
Boone is leaving. Now, he does admit
they did get the call correct. He's
like, "I get it. They got the call
correct."
>> Yeah, they got the play right. They I I
will say that. They got the play right.
>> They just handled it wrong, and they've
been telling us all spring this is how
it was going to handle, and it was very
smart of me not to challenge cuz I knew
he dropped the ball. But then you show
it on the replay, and you go, "Hey,
Tito, you want to challenge? Did you see
what they see?" And he's mad about it.
He's going to go back out. He can't
figure it out. He's like, "No way this
is right. And that's not the rule you
told us in spring. You cannot challenge
it whenever you want. I want you to
check that he can challenge it. He can't
do it, you know?" And Alms like, "Well,
we already ran it." And he goes, "Well,
it is one of the stupidest I want you to
check that he can challenge it whenever
he [ __ ] wants.
Whenever he [ __ ] wants to. I want you
to check." He's like, "You want me to
check?" "Yeah, I want you to do a rule
check. And I want a protest. I'm putting
the P in the air, you know?" And then
I'm like, "Actually, Boone, you can't
protest anymore." He's like, "Cuz it's
awful after you guys [ __ ] it up both
ways. It was out before he scores on
that, by the way, and I didn't
challenge. I saved you guys face there
cuz I knew you
I knew you messed up both plays, you
know? I'm just helping you out and you
go do this to me. I'm over it." Clark
Schmidt gets the strike call on that one
on the outside edge, goes back to the
outside edge, doesn't get the call,
thinks it's very similar pitch, goes
there again, doesn't get it again,
thinks it's very similar. Boone's like,
"What's going on?" Here's all the
pitches on that edge from this game.
Now, the orange are strikes, the blue
are balls, so it's been some are blue,
some are orange. The only problem all of
Clark's are blue, all of the other
pitchers are orange. So, Boone doesn't
like that, and he went and looked at it,
and he's going to let the umpire know.
"Four. Stop. I'm just trying to help.
I'm just trying to help you. I'm just
trying to help you." Boom, ejected.
Wasn't interested in getting any help.
So, Boone runs out. "I said you've got
four strikes that you've called balls.
Four. I see you looking I see you
looking at the iPad. I was yelling at
YOU IN THE [ __ ] MOMENT. I WAS YELLING
AT YOU IN THE MOMENT. I'M YELLING AT YOU
IN THE MOMENT." HE SPIT IN MY FACE. "I
WAS YELLING at you in the moment about
these pitches." He spit in my face. "I'm
out." Boone's like, "Woah, you can't
woah woah uh uh Boone's mad. He's fire
Okay, I'm fine. I'm fine. I'm fine. Four
called strikes are balls.
Four.
Something something after those, the
same pitch, and it's two balls.
WHAT?
>> [laughter]
>> WHAT?
I need him to get better.
I need YOU TO GET BETTER. So Boone's
going to go teach him how to get better.
I just want you to know I don't care
what the iPad's saying.
Don't tell me you don't care what the
iPad is saying.
You said it.
Boonie, Boonie, Boonie. I like this look
Boone get Boonie. Come on, come on. He's
like, oh, oh, hi there. Hello, how are
you? No, I'm talking to him. I told you
it's not looking at the iPad. I'm
yelling at you in real time. And
something what you need to do is you
need to look at and look over there and
you can see that
four balls, four strikes.
Get better. It's terrible. I want you to
care about it. I want you to care about
it.
Okay? You should care about it. And he's
thinking, oh, I shouldn't have said the
don't care thing. Maybe he's got a
point. I should care about, you know, my
strikes. And Boone realizes, wait, you
shouldn't have thrown me out for what I
said before that. I didn't even say
anything. And then he's going to say, no
way you should have thrown me out for
that. No way you should have thrown me
out for that. No way I should have
gotten thrown out. I didn't say
anything. No way I should have gotten
thrown out. Huh?
I mean, I just told him he got a four.
That's horse [ __ ]
And you [ __ ] know it. Yeah.
So Boone was mad.
I don't got the answer for you. Huh? And
he's out. And he got suspended cuz he
spit in the umpire's face, which was an
accident. And I don't know. I mean,
obviously he goes off once he's ejected,
but all he said was four balls called
strikes. And I he's I'm trying to help
you. I'm trying to help you. Maybe the
first time a a manager gets ejected for
trying to help the umpire. Maybe he's
pondering that. Yankees are playing the
White Sox. Last day as the umpire's just
botching the outside corner all game cuz
his head is on the inside, so he's got
no angle on the outside. And strike. And
all game, all Dylan Cease had to do, and
smart that he was doing it, was just go
outside, a whole ball length, maybe two
balls off the plate, strike, strike,
curveball, strike. So, Boone finally
snaps, and he snaps on that pitch, which
wasn't even a ball, but either way, he
last, "What the [ __ ] are we doing?
What are we doing?" And Laz is like,
"Well, you're gone.
You're out." He says, "Oh, you you threw
me? Okay, good. Now I'm going to tell
you what I think." And we do have some
hot mics, so I'm going to let this play
with the hot mics first, and then I'll
slow it down and read the lips, because
it's kind of a mixture.
Well, I'm sure that Boone was thrown
out.
Okay. So, if you couldn't hear that, you
might need headphones on, but it is
there, just to let you know that like
it's not all lip reading, there is just
a lot of uh
good audio on here. He comes out, and he
says the stuff about you messed up DJ,
and you messed up Gleber, and then his
finale is, "You [ __ ] stink!
You [ __ ] stink!" And Laz responds
with, "No, you stink! Yo, you stink! You
[ __ ] stink! You stink, Aaron!"
So, then Boone goes to walk towards the
plate to show him
where the pitches are missing. And Laz
knows what he's doing, so Laz says, "Oh,
play your [ __ ] game! Play your
[ __ ] game! Play your [ __ ] game!
Play your [ __ ] game then! Go ahead!
Go ahead! Show me where I missed! Do
what you're going to do! Go ahead and
play your [ __ ] game! There you go!
There you go! Yeah, make it bigger! Make
it bigger! Make it bigger! Now make it
bigger! YOU MAKE IT BIGGER!"
SO, WE HAD SOME HOT MICS AGAIN, BUT WHAT
happened there was Laz is basically
like, "You should go look at your
record. You think I stink?" And Boone
says, "Well, yeah. I hear about it every
[ __ ] day."
And then Lyle's says, "What the [ __ ]
have you done here? You haven't done a
[ __ ] thing here. And I stink?"
>> [laughter]
>> "And I stink?
You've missed so many [ __ ] calls. I
stink? What have you done here? What
have you done here? And I stink? I don't
think so. I stink? Just go. I don't want
to talk. Just go. You're calling pitches
2 in off the plate. SO MANY [ __ ]
PITCHES TONIGHT. GO. GO." So Boone goes
and walks away. I don't know. Lyle's got
kind of personal there. What have you
ever done?
Thinks he's bigger than Boone in the
game of baseball. Boone's trying to let
him know that he stinks and he missed a
lot of pitches that night. I mean, he
even was kind enough to show him. I do
like Lyle's saying, "Go play your game."
Yeah, draw line. Play your game. So
Boone has to draw the line cuz Lyle's is
telling him, "Draw your line." And Boone
draws a pretty big line cuz he's getting
permission from the umpire to do it.
It's real big. Meanwhile, the ump the
whole time, "Make it bigger. Make it
bigger." So now Boone's like,
"Oh, [ __ ] Well, he I mean, this is
everything he's asking me to do. I got
to add something extra here. Let me
And this is what you look like. Strike."
>> [clears throat]
[laughter]
>> And then
uh "You stink." Right in his face. And
he did get Lyle's ump call.
Pretty, you know, that's that's there.
That's on point. That pitch was called a
strike, but it's probably low. Lance
Barrett, the umpire behind the plate,
has the biggest strike zone of all
umpires. That was the scouting report
before the game started. Judge is like,
"I don't know about that." Next inning,
bottom of the second, Volpe gets that
one called on him and he's like,
"Uh that clipped the bottom?" Umpire's
like, "Yep." Boone is like, "Geez,
Lance, come on, man.
Only the second inning. I'm already
getting so frustrated. Second inning,
next batter, that one's called a strike.
That's
That's probably not a strike. Called a
strike. And now frustration starting to
boil over.
>> Got some stories.
>> Yeah, I was thinking that
And Lance
>> Just saying you SHOULD FIX IT.
THEN FIX IT. They're balls. Little mean
stare from Lance as he makes his way
back to the plate, throws the mask on.
Boone is not excited. Doesn't think he
got his message across. Oh, [ __ ] First
pitch. That one is maybe the most
egregious of the bunch. I mean, that's
just a real low pitch and called for a
strike. Boone says something. Lance
says,
Aaron, get out of here. Throws him out.
Now Boone gets to walk out, have his
peace, and we get some hot mics.
I love it. Do you think that's a strike?
Honestly, do you think it's a strike?
You just called it a strike, but do you
think it's a strike? And Boone, I love
this. He goes, "Just so you [ __ ]
know." And he's just looking at him. He
says, "Okay?" And Lance is going to give
him this little nod like, "Yep. Okay.
Gotcha." Kind of like when I talk to my
toddler, say, "Okay, do you hear me?"
And he just goes, "Okay, Dad." And
you're like, "I don't think you're
really listening to me. Do you think
that was a strike? Honestly, do you
think that was a strike, the one you
just called?" Boone wants answers. Now
he's getting an answer. And judging from
the next sentence, I think Lance is
probably saying, "Well,
uh, if I'm wrong, I don't know. You want
me to to admit that I'm wrong? I'm not
going to admit that." Or something like
that, cuz Boone says, "Well,
if I'm wrong, I come out and I say it.
Yeah. I wave my hand and Lance is like,
"No, you do not do that." Boone is like,
"That's a ball right there. It's a ball.
It's [ __ ] down. I promise you, it's
down. He's having a hell of a night so
far. I know you've got the biggest zone
in the league. You must know it, too.
I'm [ __ ] telling you that pitch is
[ __ ] down. That pitch is not even
[ __ ] close." And Lance says, "Okay,
all right. Good talk. I heard you. And
see you later." And Boone says, "Yep,
got everything I wanted to say off my
chest." And he gets ejected, says, "Here
you go. You take over now. You're the
boss. Have fun." Alex Verdugo steps to
the plate for the Yankees. That's strike
one on a slider. Verdugo accepts the
call, doesn't love it, but accepts it.
It's in there. Okay, that's the edge.
I'll memorize that. Back-to-back
sliders. Didn't see that coming. Oh and
two now. Surely he's not going to get
another one. He does. He says he struck
out. He says, "Wait, what? How?
On the pitch?
Are you kidding me? What? On the pitch?
Boone says, "Hey!
Hey!
What's going on?
What you call? ON THE SWING?
SO, YEAH, HE CALLED HIM OUT ON THE pitch
and everyone thought it was on the
swing. Even the catcher for the Marlins
doesn't clock that as a ball. So, he
asked to check the swing. Like, did he
go? Which usually means the catcher
doesn't think it's a strike or he's just
being safe. He definitely didn't doesn't
look like he swung. So, that's why they
were a little shocked. And then they
said, "No, it's on the pitch." And then
it was even a more shocking cuz that
pitch was outside. By every program that
tracks pitches, they all said that one's
outside. Umpire said, "No, it's good."
So, they were shocked. Verdugo comes
back up in In inning. The Yankees are
down. He's the lead-off batter. Strike
one was in there. Oh and one now the
pitch and that is a ball, low. Need to
get runners on. Need to mount a
comeback. Down three in the seventh. The
one-one pitch and that's low outside.
No, neither. Strike and Verdugo's mad
and Boone is now going to back up his
guy. HEY!
IT'S LOW!
YEAH.
IT'S [ __ ] LOW, JOHN!
It's low! Dot him! It's low!
[ __ ] let's try it again. TIGHTEN IT
UP! Umpire doesn't like any of this. He
says, "You're out of here." Boom!
Stares at him. [ __ ] [ __ ]
Boone now gets to come out and have a
real conversation. He says, "The last
one you called on the bat, he said it
was called strike, right?"
His last time up. You know you missed
that one bad.
Okay, and now you're [ __ ] him again
on the low pitch. [ __ ] John!
[ __ ] John!
[ __ ] You got what He says, "We're
coming back in this game. We're coming
back in this game and I need you to be
really sharp right now. Let's go!"
Tell him, Boonie. Need him to be sharp.
And then he's going to walk off.
Umpire's going to get set. The game's
going to continue. Boone's got to leave.
Grabs his notepad. He says, "Well,
I've done it again.
It's up to you now." He says, "Fucking
so [ __ ] bad, bro." Aaron Judge coming
to the plate for the Yankees. He's one
of the better hitters in the game. He
says, "Okay, what am I going to see
here? I think it's going to be that."
Gone! 86 changeup low and in. Judge
smashes it. Where did it go? Usually you
have seats in a crowd. They call it
foul. IT'S A FOUL BALL. WHAT?
They're pissed off. That's a judge
homer.
You think it's a homer? I'll tell you
why he Boone thought it was a homer
later. He says, "HOW DO YOU MISS THAT?
COME ON." NOW, the at-bat continues and
they think that ball is off the plate.
Strikes on how to do a strike and Boone
is just going to let out of now cuz now
he's he's really mad about the home run
situation, but now he can be mad about
it that as well. HE'S LIKE, "LET'S GO.
[ __ ] A, LET'S GO. WHAT ARE YOU
looking at?
IT'S A [ __ ] HOMER. You get the [ __ ]
OUT. IT'S A HOMER. IT'S an Aaron Judge
homer.
You missed an Aaron Judge [ __ ] homer.
Absolutely going to hear about it from
us. WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING AT? IT'S A HOME
RUN.
YEAH. AND BOONE got ejected. He's upset
about the strike call, mostly upset
about the home run. We had him on our
show cuz we have Boone every week on our
show and he let us know all of his
thoughts in a much calmer and more
rational way. And here they are.
>> There were a couple triggers for me that
made me know it was fair. I think the
replay, Judge how he started to go into
his trot after it. So, he knew. Louie
Rojas turned right to me and was like,
"That's a fair ball." Cam and Aro
thought it was fair. And then when I
went and argued with Scott Berry at
third, he's like, "It's you know,
basically how tough a call it was. I
think it's tougher there for the third
base umpire because he's got to turn
around and find the ball again. And then
he's looking up from a shorter angle at
home plate, you follow the flight of the
ball
the whole time and see it. Obviously,
it's a little more challenging not in a
big league park. I would propose that
call going to the home plate umpire.
>> Two strikes. Now, he's going to throw a
low fastball off of that, gets the call
and Dominguez is
uh what? That's down, bro. Come on. Oh
my god, I bet it's so down. He says,
"What do you want me to say? It's a
strike, huh? Get out of here." Puts his
hand on his back, says, "Get on your
way." Boone, the manager, he does not
want his young player to get ejected, so
he's going to come protect him. He says,
"Hey!"
Come on, Mark.
No way you [ __ ] kicked that right
there. And that was enough. That was
enough to get tossed. You're out. The
mask goes flying over his face. Get
gone. That was all IT WAS.
AH, [ __ ]
HOW THE [ __ ] DO YOU KICK that right
there? The umpire says, "I don't think I
did." He says, "You don't think so?"
"No, I don't have it down." "You don't
think so? You butchered it." You
butchered that. He butchered IT. NO
CHANCE. Come on, Mark.
Come on, Mark. And why are you quick to
toss? I'm trying to protect my player.
You were protecting your player.
[ __ ] THAT'S [ __ ] YOU'RE
yelling at me and you're talking down to
me. NO, I'M PROTECTING MY [ __ ]
PLAYER. YOU'RE NOT PROTECTING YOUR
PLAYER. [ __ ] THAT IS [ __ ]
YOU'RE [ __ ] [ __ ] YOU CAN SAY
WHATEVER THE [ __ ] you want. You don't
get to come out here and yell at me.
That is [ __ ] and you know it is. GET
HIM OUT OF HERE.
I DIDN'T COME OUT HERE TO [ __ ] YELL
AT YOU. AND he kind of did and he just
came out and he said, "No way you messed
that one up, right?" And then that got
him tossed. So, um wasn't hearing it. He
wasn't having it. He said, "You can't
come out and you can't talk to me that
way." Maybe he can't. Yankees and Red
Sox tied at one in extra innings. DJ
LeMahieu hits this one down the
uh foul ball. Here's another angle.
Let's take a look. Let's take a look.
Let's take a look.
Ooh.
>> After review, the call on the field
stands. FOUL BALL.
>> OH, BOONE HATES IT. Can't believe it.
[ __ ] NO WAY.
HOW'S THAT [ __ ] [ __ ] STAND?
[ __ ]
UH-UH. Takes his gum, CHUCKS IT.
ALL RIGHT. BOOM.
GET OUT OF HERE. Not going to throw gum
on my field.
And now Boone is like, all right, well,
now I'll tell you how I really feel.
IT'S [ __ ] [ __ ]
THE [ __ ] DOES THAT STAND?
[ __ ] [ __ ]
HOW THE [ __ ] DOES THAT STAND? HUH? HOW
DOES THAT STAND? HOW DOES THAT STAND?
HOW DOES THAT STAND, CHRIS?
I'm wondering. Come on. How? Well, they
couldn't see it. They couldn't see it, I
guess.
HOW THE HELL DOES THAT CALL STAND?
THEN THEY TAKE YOUR GUYS' CALL.
Come on, Jeremy. COME ON, JEREMY. YOU'RE
STANDING RIGHT THERE.
[ __ ] JEREMY, the umpire, is like,
shrug, I don't know what to tell you,
dog.
Foul ball. I called it right, and they
backed me up by saying it stands. Not
saying it's confirmed. They didn't say
it's confirmed. They just said it
stands. [ __ ] Damn it.
Boone walks off. The fans love it.
They're throwing him a GET HIM OUT OF
HERE.
BYE-BYE.
Yankees fans shell-shocked. YOU'VE GOT
ONE THING TO SEE.
COME ON.
>> [laughter]
>> CAN'T SEE? Tom Pain's like, excuse me,
sir.
Can you do that? That was ruder than the
gum throw. Excuse me.
I can't Can I throw you out again?
Boone's like, "No, I'm leaving."
Mm, okay.
Okay, I feel like I should have thrown
him out again for that. That was ruder
than anything else that happened.
Yankees and Astros are tied, four runs
apiece. The bases are loaded. Taylor
Trammell is up. Devin Williams on the
bump. Ball two, ball three. Wants it as
a strike, doesn't get it. There you go,
strike one. And then ball four. Wanted
that one, too. Didn't get it. Stares at
the umpire. He's mad. Let's keep going.
Let's keep it going. HIGH FIVE. WOO!
KNOWS HE'S COMING OUT. BOONE COMES OUT.
He looks at the umpire. He says, "You
better be right on that." Yeah, you
better be right ON THAT ONE. DAMN IT.
NOT FUN.
Devin's mad. He's going to walk off the
mound. He's going to tell umpire, "I got
four.
You missed four.
You want to get thrown out? Yeah? Fine.
Good. You got it."
Boom!
Hit him with the boom. All right, I'm
leaving anyway. I don't care. He leaves,
goes in the dugout, says, "What up?" to
his teammates. Brian Walsh, the umpire,
staring into space. A little nervous.
Devin, sad, despondent. Brian Walsh now
looking at Boone, who's walking off.
Give him a little side eye. Say it. Say
something, Boone. What are you going to
say? You going to say something to me?
Come on. Come on. Boone says, "Fine,
I'll let you know. I'll say it. You blew
a big [ __ ] game for you." Yeah, it
was a big game. And you blew it. Bam!
Boom! To Boone, you're out. And now
Boone's going to come up. He says, "I
just [ __ ] watched you [ __ ] up a big
game for you. You're [ __ ] all over
the place. You're down, you're up,
you're up, you're down. YOU [ __ ]
STINK. YOU STINK!
YOU [ __ ] STINK!
[ __ ] way too many in a [ __ ] night
for you.
Way too many. It's [ __ ] Hey, hey,
get out of here. Get out of here. All
right. All right. Okay. All right. I'm I
was leaving. And now I'm talking Why ARE
YOU STILL TALKING?
I I KNOW. [screaming]
HUH? I WAS LEAVING. Then you wanted ME
TO KEEP GOING. [ __ ] OH, [ __ ] it. How
about Ramon, huh? STOP IT. STOP [ __ ]
TALKING. STOP [ __ ] TALKING. ALL
RIGHT. CHILL OUT. You stink.
And you stink, too.
You stink, too.
Yeah, you. You.
You two. Your zone is too big. It's too
big.
That's why it stunk. He leaves, walks
down to the dugout, finds bench coach
Blanche Brad, hands him the notes, and
Brad is like, Wait. Wait, hold on.
Where'd he go? Hey. Hey, Booney. Hey,
DID YOU GET TOSSED? YEAH. YEAH. AH,
OKAY. I'm the manager now. See you
later. Okay, now let's skip to the next
game.
Altuve's up. There's a runner on second.
Yankees are up four to three. It's the
bottom of the sixth inning. This is the
next game. The umpire behind home plate
is now at third base. Little liner to
third, caught by McMahon. Comes out of
the glove. They say no catch. Who's the
umpire on third? It's Brian Walsh. The
umpire that was behind the plate the
night before. Everything we just
watched. Next day, moves to third base.
He says no no catch. They're like, "What
are you talking about?" Booney's like,
"Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. He He
caught it." Come on.
No, he caught it. All right. Are you
checking? Hold on. Hold on. Hold on. On
the transfer. ON THE TRANSFER.
HEY, NO,
HE'S LIKE, "WHOA, what do you No, I
didn't know
So, he goes out there and he's like, he
caught the ball. Adrian, Adrian. Hey,
hey, hey, hey, hey. Okay, okay, okay.
Adrian says we'll get together, we'll
huddle up, we'll talk about it. Umpires
unite, let's go. Brian Wash walks in.
What are you guys talking about? What do
you need to know? Did he catch it? No,
he didn't catch it. No, it hit the
ground first. Yeah, no. No, Boone says,
"Okay, getting resolved. I'm calm I'm
calm." He says, "Yeah, yeah, no, no. He
didn't catch it. Okay, well, can't
review that. Fine. That's fine." And
then they walk their ways and the place
stays the same and Ryan McMahon's at
third. Oh my god, are you serious? Boone
says, "What is going on?" He runs out
and no Adrian? No Adrian? He says,
"Well, it's his call." Okay. I'll be
cool. I'm not going to get ejected. Look
at me. Look at me. Hey, hey. He said,
"Oh, we don't have catch." He says, "He
caught THE [ __ ] BALL."
NOW, BOONE'S LIKE, "OH MY GOODNESS.
WOW."
That's really great. Really is. That's
unbelievable.
That's unbelievable.
OH MY GOD. They can't do anything about
it. McMahon's just at third. Umpire's
just like, "Okay, cool. Why is everyone
I'm good." Boone didn't get ejected back
there. Here's the replay, slow mo,
stabilize,
right into the glove. Now, he probably
saw the dirt flick up and thought he had
to do something more than he had to do
and then as he tries to get the ball out
of his glove, it drops. That means it's
on the transfer. That means it's a
catch. Now, MLB has come out and they
have said that play should have been
ruled a catch.
Hey, how about it? In the fourth inning
is when it started. Volpe tries to steal
second base. Instead, punched out by
umpire Brennan Miller. Same umpire from
Savages in the box all those years ago.
So, I don't know, there's some history.
His most famous ejection and Boone is
just waiting, waiting, waiting, eager,
excited to get the news. Please tell me
to challenge. Please Oh,
you dummy. Challenge. Never seen an
umpire
ask for a review
in that manner. He's so excited to do it
and also so frustrated. Like, you idiot.
Of course we're challenging on you. And
I think this is why the Yankees reviewed
cuz they saw right there. And as when it
looks like Volpe's toe goes down, they
looks like he might be on the base and
that would be egregious. That would be
egregious and he would be safe. This one
is crazy close and they don't really
have any definitive angle. I think them
saying the call stands is fine. And he
did punch him out in live time. A very
emphatically. As a big punch. Bam!
UMPIRING'S WEIRD, HUH? BAM! THAT'S JUST
BAM! THAT'S THE MOTION. It's so
aggressive. So, Boone's just waiting.
They took a while on this one. Chomping
on the gum, waiting, getting irritated.
At this point he's thinking, "Okay, this
is not going to get overturned, huh?"
Because that gum is just getting
chomped, getting blown. He's getting
irritated. He's all of a sudden there's
like he's getting itchy. He wants to
scratch. The
hat's coming off. Blah blah blah blah.
>> The call on THE FIELD STANDS. THE RUNNER
IS OUT.
NEW YORK WILL LOSE A CHALLENGE.
>> [ __ ]
GUM THROW. [ __ ] stink.
You stink.
[ __ ] terrible.
So mad. The hat's going up. Brows
getting furrowed, looking around. You're
all Oh my god. [ __ ] [ __ ]
You [ __ ] stink.
I like Teddy says stink. Be like, you
freaking suck. [ __ ] stink. Brandon is
like, "Oh, okay. Well, uh uh a [ __ ]
bad call. Bear down, BRANDON."
LATER ON IN THE GAME, BOTTOM of the
seventh, two outs, Yankees have a runner
on, they're up two, that is they say
caught for the third out again. Now, the
Yankees don't have any challenges cuz
they lost their challenge. Boone looks
and he says, "Did he catch it? Let me
know just for fun." And on this one, I
think he didn't catch it. Obviously, I
have my biases as a Yankee fan. I don't
know if they would overturn it, but it
does seem to me that that ball gets gets
helped, gets smothered by the grass
there. He gets word from his replay crew
that he didn't catch it is what he's
told and he says, "Nice going. Good
job." And he's like, "You're out of
here. Don't tell me nice going when I
know you don't mean it. That's rude."
So, now he's going to run out and says,
"You [ __ ] kicked another one.
You missed another one.
You [ __ ] missed another one.
Yeah.
He [ __ ] dropped the ball.
Cuz you had Well, he was safe here.
Yeah? You saw it? Yeah? Yeah? Yeah? And
then, this was dropped, but I don't have
a [ __ ] challenge because you had a
[ __ ] bad call, wide open. We
shouldn't have looked at that play.
If it was so wide open, why wasn't IT
OVERTURNED? I HAVE NO [screaming] IDEA.
BUT, BECAUSE you made a bad call that
you [ __ ] saw cuz you were standing in
perfect position. [ __ ] AND NOW,
THAT'S TWO NOW CUZ THAT [ __ ] HIT.
SHOCKED YOU MISSED IT.
[ __ ] A.
OH, BOY. The [ __ ]
That's [ __ ]
He was [ __ ] safe and he [ __ ] saw
it.
Come on. Called him out. HE WASN'T EVEN
LOOKING.
[ __ ] TERRIBLE.
I've never seen Boone miss speak so
much. Usually he's so mad but he just
hits every word and he says synced and
he makes his point. He's really hot.
He's flustered. He's starting sentences
and not finishing them and getting the
new one. He's hot. [ __ ] WAKE UP.
DO SOMETHING.
>> [laughter]
>> SHUT THE YOU SAVE IT. I DON'T WANT TO
[ __ ] hear it. It's [ __ ] terrible.
He's mad. He's really mad.
Two very close calls.
>> [laughter]
>> I don't know if you can They're hard to
get in live time. But he is He's really
mad. Maybe some of the savages in the
box stuff does run deep. Maybe he's sick
of Brandon burst in his bubble. I'll ask
about it next time he joins us on
Talking Yanks. Aaron Boone is about to
get ejected for the 50th time in his
career and it's a fun one. We got hot
mics. We got lip readings. We got funny
sayings. We've got Shane Bieber on the
bump. Luis Garcia and that pitch is
called a strike and manager Aaron Boone
says something about it cuz he doesn't
like it and umpire Vic Carapazza hears
him and he says this.
>> What did YOU JUST SAY?
WHAT DID YOU SAY?
I DIDN'T HEAR YOU.
WHAT DID YOU SAY?
>> BOONE RESPONDS, "I THOUGHT it was down."
To which Vic says, "Yeah. Get out of
here."
That's exactly what I thought you said.
"I did actually hear you." Boone's like,
"What?" I roll smile. Are you serious?
Hey, tell him to tap his head which is
illegal.
Managers are not allowed to tell the
batter to tap their head. If Boone did
that, Vic would have probably ejected
him and said he can't challenge it.
You're not allowed to tell him. And now
Boone is going to say, "Don't take your
horse [ __ ] night out on me. Don't take
my horse [ __ ] night? You're missing half
your [ __ ] calls up there."
"We can't challenge all of them." "I
only missed three."
>> "Bullshit."
>> "Besides the ones that got challenged,
you missed all three to Mac." "Oh,
well."
"Oh, well? That's a great attitude.
Great."
>> "No, you can't argue WITH THE [ __ ]
TAPS."
>> I THINK, YOU KNOW, Vic's point was like,
"Oh, well. You still can't argue. Even
if you think I missed them, you still
can't argue." But Boone is taking it
like, "Oh, you don't care if you get
them right or wrong?" That's a great
attitude. "We can't challenge every
[ __ ] THING."
>> "WHY NOT?"
>> "THERE'S TWO OUTS AND NOBODY ON."
>> "WHY NOT?"
>> "BECAUSE."
>> "WHY?"
>> "You have to do better."
>> "No, I'm I'm doing good." "Night."
>> "No, you're wrong."
>> "You're having a horse [ __ ] [ __ ]
night, and you know it.
>> "Don't point in my [ __ ] face,
>> Aaron."
>> "And you KNOW IT.
>> "Don't [ __ ] come over here and
challenge me."
>> I'm going to [ __ ] challenge you."
>> "I didn't say anything the whole [ __ ]
time. You just throw me out."
>> you can't argue.
You're having a horrible [ __ ] night,
>> "Then why do you even have the
challenges?"
>> and you [ __ ] know it.
>> "Then why do they have the challenges?"
>> "Bullshit. I don't know anything.
[ __ ] get better."
>> "Okay."
"Fucking horse shit."
>> And that was that. Fun fact, this was
Boone's 50th ejection, milestone. I
wonder if he keeps a scorecard or
something. I don't know, you got to
celebrate it some way. One umpire has
ejected him 10% of the times, and that's
our guy Vic Carapazza. He has now
ejected Boone five times. No other ump
has ejected Boone three times. So, Vic,
stand out winner, who's ejected Aaron
Boone the most. Did he get better? Boone
told him to get better, and he said,
"Okay, I'll try." No, he missed four
more
in the game. They all went unchallenged,
which is I think people are going to
feel both ways about this. One is,
"Yeah,
players have to challenge it. That's an
option now. Tell your team to get better
at challenging." And the other is,
we still want umpires to make the right
call. Otherwise, up the amount of
challenges they get, so they aren't
scared of wasting them cuz this series,
the next game, Hunter Wendelstedt, we
can put the stats up here, is the
worst-called game of the year. So, there
you go. Did he bait an ejection?
Yeah.
Yeah, that whole time when he was like,
"What did you say? I didn't hear you.
That's what I thought you said. I was
just trying to get you to say it again."
