Welcome to Toffee TV. It is the match preview. Everton versus Manchester United on Sunday. 2:00 kickoff at Hill Dickinson. Can't believe that that's there making the studio look absolute mess. James, this is a very, very tough game. >> Yeah. coming at the end of a week when I'll be honest, I just want to get back to football because the way that transfer window finished forever was absolutely woeful, wasn't it? Yeah, I think which which is a shame as well because I think this season, you know, three games were unbeaten in all three of them and me and you were talking about it's 8-1 aggregate to Everton at the minute and it's like everything's going well sort of on the pitch, but it's the outside noise that's sort of bringing everything down and and I think that is a shame, but you know, obviously things didn't go the way it was, but we've got other players in now. We're featuring other players and now start to get opportunities and there's a bit more of a fight, especially for like Tyler Dibling. he's, you know, maybe last season he didn't see as many opportunities getting in the team, but now >> don't see why he wouldn't be fighting for it. And then players like George and Brennan Johnson, you know, different positions he can play in and so as much as the trans window is bad, I think you can spin it positively. But at least I'm trying. >> I mean, David Moyes just done his press conference and obviously referenced the fact that Everton have got a small squad. >> Yeah. which the AV he you know he was on about we had a small squad after Preston and we had five more players I know we brought to him we'll talk about them in a sec but I mean the way the window ended I mean could you believe the way Everton left it so late to do important positions which obviously was a center forward which fell through and obviously didn't bring another left back in or or a winger. No, I mean coming into the studio to do the 24-hour stream, you know, talking about it, we were expecting like five players, you know, I thought we were getting Balagan and Rich Allison, we end up getting needed and we didn't get any alternatives. And even then, we were discussing like to get another winger on top of that if they're getting rid of Dying Beetto. And >> the fact that we didn't manage to get anyone in to replace them at all and sort of the numbers that we do have is already so low, I think it is massively disappointing. And you know, it's not like the players we have at the minute as well like have been prolific in the past for us. You know, George and Dibblin, as much as you know, they're both promising and George has shown like real strength, neither have a goal contribution for at the minute. >> Yeah, that's fair. >> Like neither have reg not registered one. You know, Bren Johnson's coming off the back of like a rough six months at Palace. So, >> but he started all right. >> And I think they all look good, but obviously >> there's a risk in, you know, putting your faith in them players and it could pay off massively. And that's what I hope it does. And I think >> from the positive signs we've seen from Johnson and George already, I think they [clears throat] will have a good season for everything, but >> you know, you wanted just someone sort of like a comfort blanket. You know, he's going to get the performances and that's what I thought Rich Alson would have been. He was guaranteed goals and quality >> that you know, you might not get or it might be a bit up and down with the other players that we've got. >> We did bring two in obviously Angley mate Niles comes in as the right back. I know there's a video going round of him saying he's not a right back. He's a midfielder. That was some years ago. He has gone off and played fullback for a number of years. And obviously we brought Jack Eish back which is really good news as well. He he makes the team much better when Jack's in it. So they're two decent bits of business. When you look at it overall that Evan have done I think Evan have done some good business this summer. I don't think there's any doubt about that. But >> you still look and go mate wasn't the number one right back choice. We've lost bet Barry. We got Tiano Barry on his own. >> Yeah. >> And we let Aznu go out the door. So it was only Michenko. I think we we're strong in midfield. >> We have got options wide. But losing Ilman and Jai real quality going out the door is a is a bit of a killer and not replacing him. >> Yeah. >> Um so there is gaps there. There's no doubt about it. But I guess the manager's got a set of players that maybe Tyler Dibling aside, he's quite happy to use. Yep. >> And um overall that might make the squad in some respects stronger albeit accepting that the quality from Jai and obviously the the additional goal from Betto w there which will make things really difficult. >> Yeah. But I think a big one for me is the fact that we did get Jack back and I think that was overshadowed by >> you know the fact he didn't get Balagan and that people didn't really celebrate him coming back and I think >> even if you look at his interview that he had when he was coming back like at the club that he was talking about >> you know he wants to be a leader but he also wants to help sort of the younger players in the squad and he'll play anywhere because you understand you like Ty George sort of took like the left and stuff like that. >> I think that's that they're all massive parts for Ev. I think last season when we when he was in Evans team he was in my opinion he was our best player you know >> topped assist top um can't succeeded >> that was like he he was the top of both them I think for like a month even after being injured >> and then obviously he ended second for Everton >> for Everton's record so >> for me I think he's huge he's got that he's definitely like a step above everyone else in quality you know like his first touch and that and I think it's massive that even when he was at city he came off the bench for like that Mesa still sort of seen him like if he doesn't go he's going to be a part of me plans and that he can play and if he >> if he can get into the City team he can get into the Ev >> and so I think he's going to be huge for it this season and >> it's just obviously it's it's a risk cuz he was wasn't fifth half the season but [clears throat] >> maybe with like a bit less workload and you know you give George and Dibbon a bit more of a chance and Brenon Johnson that maybe he can last the full season and I think if he did he'd be massive and having body you've seen against Preston and you know then like sort of final finishes in the box and Brennan Johnson who's sort of known for by his back post finishing >> having someone like Jack as you can create them sort of big chances for them I think it would be massive for us >> you understand the fans frustration of the way the window I mean I'm I'm still fuming I haven't got over it really tried to to manage that as best I could but I'm still you know the process has failed you know Angus Kane and his team failed because they shouldn't be leaving things so late the owners for me are the main >> culprits in this cuz they should be making sure everybody below them has got what they need to get it. David Moy just said that so you can understand the fans frustration but going into this game on Sunday we have got to draw a line under we can't do anything about it now so we've got to draw a line under it and get right behind the team and I think if we do that we can cause Manchester United problems. Yeah, I think everyone's massively frustrated because as you said the business that we've done and the players we brought in I think our taking the Ev team to like the next level. I think the midfield especially you look at it now and the depth it's got. >> I think if we had that last season we easily get um European football. >> It's just a shame that the other positions weren't strengthened the same way. And I think if they were strengthened then we could have this season you know where I still think we can get European football this season. And I think you know you might go through a bit with Moyes's press conference and now he's like sort of the mentality switching everything with the players. Um >> going to have to be lucky though with the injuries and everything and we're going to have to spend in January >> but we it's sort of the the squad that we have got. I think you know there is enough quality in there. It's just a shame that the defense and attack weren't, you know, given a bit more investment because it really could have been a massive kick on. But as you said, there's no point like continuing to moan about them just looking over it. I think the players this season, you know, we're still we're beaten >> ultimately and you know, we can carry it on to the season. So hopefully, you know, all like creative start getting their like little combination together. James Ger starts like getting back to what he was last season and stuff. And I think Maitlin Niles I think I know he's he said he's not like a midfielder but he's played right back for the past like four years at Leon and so it's someone who knows the position and >> I think the fact he can play left back and midfield as well if Mlin Ro does want to sort of have that position >> and you know get a bit more experience and it gives that opportunity too. So it's I think it is it's easy right now to sort of be a downro but I'm just trying to be positive and spin it. You've got to you've got to Our opponents obviously have won one lost one. >> They were they were poor a whole on day one. >> Yeah. >> Um and you know got beat 2-0 but they had a a a good result last week coming from behind to beat it 5-2. >> Yeah. >> Um what have you made of United cuz obviously they car done a good job last season and they've bought some plays in the summer and I think once they settle down >> I think they'll be they'll be up there again. But for me, just right now before they're settled, there's an it's an opportunity forever. It'll be tough, >> but it's a it's a good opportunity to really get in and test ourselves against a team who is obviously in the Champions League this season. >> Yeah, I think that the whole game is sort of what everyone have to base their game off. I think a lot of conversation was said about Hall saying because like the underlying numbers they should have finished like near the bottom and stuff in the championship and they're going to struggle loads and then going to that game like the crowd is behind them and like everyone sort of felt up for the game and >> it was like I think what Everton are going to have to try and steal from like us against them everyone because everyone was sort of talking whole down >> I think Man United you know got caught out by that >> and so I think the same with Everton this weekend I think >> you know like like like the fans games for Armstrong you have to come do for the players who are playing now >> and you know it's not their fault that you know Rich Arsenal or Balag and stuff weren't signed but >> it's you know it's a part of like the Evan fans to get behind the team and sort of continue what's done. I think >> if if it if the fans do get behind and you know create a good atmosphere and everyone's sort of on the same page and I think we could beat Man United. I don't think I'm overly impressed by the signs they've made. >> You know they made three midfield signs and I think that was about it. It wasn't really a sort of Man United type summer where they spend like hundreds of like you like Chelsea and Tottenham and even Liverpool where they've spent ridiculous amounts of money at Man United didn't really do it. But yeah, I think I think the blueprints there of just the crowd behind the team and sort of going at it and so hopefully that's what Everton and David Moyes are going to do. >> Well, let's have a look at the Manchester United team that uh beats last week. We just have a look there. You know I mean you're having a look c you're still up top obviously Fernandez behind him Marcus Rashford back involved bumo you know and behind them obviously you've got copy mine who's brilliant Yori Tand who's been a really good signing for them so they are they've got good quality in that man and obviously we're coming on to Fernandez in a minute but they've got good quality and then obviously Cesco we got the winner against Ever Hill Dickson last season Andre Santos as um coming off the bench and I think you know I think when you look at them that you right now and like I said until a fully settled in >> I think we can get at them. I think this will be a team for me that'll grow with United will get a bit stronger as the season goes on. >> We've got to make sure we're busy in midfield. >> Yeah, >> there's been gaps in Arfield, but there's gaps in United midfield as well. Seen that last week with Ipsswitch. Yeah, >> obviously scoring goals for Evan isn't is not the easiest thing and sadly United that's probably where you're getting opportunities. They're not great at the back at the minute. >> Yeah. >> So, if we do get opportunities, we're going to have to take them. >> Yeah. >> Army and you know that is going to be key. But I think the key man for Manchester United unsurprisingly is Bruno Fernanch. And there he is. There's his numbers so far. two appearances, uh, two starts, of course, three goals from an xG of 2.11, one assist as well. He's created six chances already. Uh, his average rating 8.63. Unbelievable. And his line breaking passes 40. He's just quite simply an unbelievable footballer who's done >> his numbers are incredible for Manchester United in the Premier League. And couple of years on the run, it looked like he was going to go. It's like how can you allow him to go? He's so key and >> he's he's a little he can be a little shy, can't he? He's horrible, isn't he? But he's the type of player who's horrible when he's on the opposition, but you idolize him when he plays for you. >> Yeah. >> But he's the key man, isn't he, in this game. >> Yeah. I think you because that sort of United team and we're going through it before he's like I think would I'd say he's the one like world class player they've got >> you know if he's if he's sort of on it then everyone will struggle loads and I think what was it the one where not last season the season before it might have been last season when um Ashley Young got filed right at the end but man came back >> it was him free kick wasn't >> he scored the three we were two nil up and battering it should have been six or seven >> he scored the free kick and then took over >> and that just to completely turn the game and it's little moments like that if they give him anything he'll sort of take it and as you said he's he's horrible but I'm sure that's why Man United fans probably love him >> and I think yeah he's >> well but he just wants to win he's a dog isn't he wants to win he'll do anything to win he's like almost like South America and that like like when we had Rich everyone hated him we loved him didn't we but it's that kind of thing he's he's got a little I was in Atlanta last year when he tried to do and a friend you know went after him and tried to stamp on him in the back of his leg when he was running and things in a friendly. That's how wound up he was in that. So, his quality is unbelievable. He is the >> the the player who U8 ate if you but if he's in your team, you love him and he he's the one who seems to drag Manchester United through in that game. He gets a hattick, you know, last week against Dips. So, he's one we're going to have to somehow >> keep quiet. Um [music] I think even last year we kept them relatively quiet at Hill Dickensson but then United brokeen and won the game at Sesco didn't he which was was really good goal. So we're going to have to be wary of that as well and going to need the crowd. Just have a look at Everton's team from last week at Bournemouth. um you know you're looking there I expect I think m Niles will start but it wouldn't surprise me if he just leaves Merlin roll there but I think n mating lions will start um obviously I think other than that the back four will be the same do you see any obviously we haven't got and Jay but do you see any changes right I could see Kish playing on the left and George playing on the right >> against United and then obviously Maybe Niles, Maitlin Niles for for Merlin Ro or do you think it's a it's one of them where the manager will go with Maitlin Niles a right back and Merlin roll on right field? >> Uh well Maitlin Niles I was looking through his stuff before we started this and he played all the Champions League qualification games for Leon but then didn't play like the last league one so obviously he's fit and ready >> but >> I don't I I I don't know how he started. I think he sticks with me roll. Yeah, I think >> Gish is different because it's the Premier League and he's sort of been used and he's played the season already >> whereas I think he'll come straight in, but I think Moyes up might see it as a bit >> get the fitness back for me now of like what the Premier League level is and then maybe comes off the bench. But >> yeah, I think George will start on the right and Greece will start on the left. And I think what's important for me is that especially in this Man United game and what we saw in Bournemouth is that a lot of the times when you know they were sort of pressing Everton we were breaking poem was like supporting like Jol or Barry. So I think >> whether that is George or Bren Johnson or whatever or Greish it's just making sure whoever's on the wing just gets up and just gives him a hand somehow and obviously George and Johnson are much faster than what Greish and J were last season. So hopefully >> they can be up there and I think that's how Everton will sort of win the game. Hopefully. Mhm. >> Let's hope so. Let's hope. It's going to be a tough game, but this is these are sort of the games you want. Don't get a big game. Hill Dickensson will be full. It's a It's a Sunday afternoon, so they'll be light. >> Yeah. >> Um and an opportunity against Manchester United to to, you know, keep the positive start going. It's been a It's been a tough week. It's been a tough week and I know loads of loads of Evertonians are down over it, but you know, I'm sure we'll switch on when we get to the stadium on Sunday and get behind the lads and hopefully we can roar them on to a good positive result against Manchester United.
