Video summary
The 2026/27 Premier League season is approaching with a renewed sense of urgency for Everton, as the stress-free nights of previous years have vanished and the pressure to secure points has returned. While the transfer window remains open, there is still significant work to be done to complete the squad, particularly in defense where a glaring void exists at right back. Although the team appears stronger overall than last year, concerns persist regarding the depth and readiness of current defenders; specifically, the lack of a specialist right-back forces the use of midfielders like Mason Holgate or players with raw potential like Asnew, neither of whom are ideal long-term solutions. The speaker argues that relying on versatile center-backs to fill wide positions weakens the team's core structure and suggests that bringing in a young, left-sided center-back could provide better balance and development opportunities than forcing existing players into uncomfortable roles.
In midfield, Everton boasts a strong numerical presence with James Garner, Andreas Hojer, Jordon Ibe, Harrison Armstrong, and others creating healthy competition, though questions remain about the specific tactical setup and whether Carlos Alcaraz fully understands his role within this crowded group. The forward line presents its own set of challenges and opportunities, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin returning from injury in better physical condition but lacking a proven strike partner to maximize his goal-scoring potential. There is ongoing speculation regarding Gabriel Batshuayi's future and a strong desire from the club and manager David Moyes to re-sign Richarlison. Acquiring Richarlison would not only bring back a prolific scorer but also allow for a more fluid attacking system, potentially shifting from a rigid formation to a dynamic front three that can adapt tactics mid-game, which has been a missing element for the club for over two decades.
Looking ahead to the competitive landscape, Everton faces a tougher race for European qualification with the return of Chelsea and Tottenham to the top tier, while Newcastle's performance remains unpredictable under their new management. The speaker emphasizes that finishing in the top half of the table is the primary objective, with hopes of challenging for the top two or eight positions again. Beyond league standings, the competition for domestic cups like the Carabao Cup and FA Cup offers a crucial pathway to European football, which is essential for the club's financial stability and progression. Winning these tournaments could open doors to the Conference League or Europa League, providing a stepping stone back into the Champions League. Ultimately, the season will be defined by how David Moyes manages his squad rotation, handles the pressure of early results, and navigates the complex transfer market to ensure the team is fully prepared for the rigors of Premier League football from day one.

Welcome to Toffee TV. This is the season
preview. The Premier League season is
upon us again.
The stress-free nights are
seem to be gone.
The worry about Premier League points is
back, Pat.
Um
How are you feeling going
We can cover the other bits and but I
What are you sort of feeling with, you
know, just a couple of days to go before
it begins?
>> Um
I don't know.
>> [laughter]
>> I think because
I think because
the window's still open, it's it's not
It's It's a weird one, isn't it? It
still feels like
there's work to be done.
And there is lots of work to be done and
and
This is what This is when they're
planning to do it.
>> [laughter]
>> So,
um
the squad's not complete.
But, yeah. I mean
Not not too bad. I mean, I think it
helps that
I think it
It shouldn't be anything to worry about,
but I think
I think because the the three teams that
have come up
look weak.
>> [snorts]
>> Say that now, but they do look They look
look like like a weak three.
I think that will
That sort of just alleviates that little
fear in the back of your head.
And And I think I think Yeah, it's just
about
building on
32 games we played last season.
>> Like the other six off.
>> Um Yeah, yeah, and and just build bit
bit trying to look at the positive side
of things and think
if it goes the other way, then you know,
we've got a chance of Europe.
>> What What do you make of the overall
squad depth? I know
I'm acutely aware there's a big bear in
hole at right back that needs filling
very quickly.
But, in general, when you look at the
squad, where Where do the where are you
with it? Are you
>> Are we weaker or stronger? Where are we?
>> I think we're stronger.
But we're but
but we're still as weak in some
positions and we're a year older.
I worry about the defensive, I'm honest.
I think Moyes
has got this idea that it's that it's
almost like strong, but I don't I don't
or it's one of the stronger parts of his
team. I I personally don't see that. I
think
we've got no right back as as Patterson
we recall. I think that'll change, but
we need two right backs. That's That's
one of those things It's all hilarious.
It's like we haven't got a right back,
but we need two right backs because
you need depth in the Premier League and
I I don't I don't necessarily agree
with this idea of
uh you know
Koulibaly and plays in there. No matter
how good they are because I feel like I
feel I feel like if if you take a player
from
from another position and you're
weakening in that position then. So, you
need rather than saying, "Well, we we we
can have eight center midfielders and
two of them can play right back." Why
not have six center midfielders and two
right backs?
So
I think from that point of view
center back I think at left back
I think the gap between
the two of them is
I think this backup left back has so
much better attributes than the starting
left back, but I also don't think
Asnew
is ready to play games like every week
cuz he's still very raw. So, it's an odd
one and I think the center backs
I've no idea the Michael Keane thing. I
just don't get at all now. I think
that's that's that's done and I think
I think J
wants to play center center back,
but he has to play games and I think
Tarky's got to the top and is on the way
down now.
So, it could all change and then
obviously you've got
I'll keep him Branthwaite fit and
everything. And I think that'll be But
that's what worries me is that I do
think Branthwaite will be
not I think he'll be you We're We're
lucky I think
>> He'll be managed.
>> Apart from the cup games, I don't think
we play
a midweek game till December.
>> Right, so.
>> So, so
I think from that point of view, I think
I don't think it's too bad. I think he
can play week to week.
But if they do think Look at him one
week and go,
"Well, mhm
we haven't got a like-for-like."
>> So, I'd have liked to have Shelby take
over Brian.
>> It should be, but it's not.
>> Because of the pace, though.
>> Yeah, but it should be, but it's not.
He's not a like-for-like. He's not good
on the ball.
>> no, I know what you mean. I mean, if
it's never Branthwaite, it has to be J.
>> But then
then And then But it's it's the balance,
isn't it? It's It's
>> For me, I think we should have gone and
got a left-sided center back, a young
left-sided center back that
that can learn the role while not being
in the team, and is someone you can
bring in.
Cuz otherwise, you're always going to
fit that in. And actually
I I don't really like J on the left-hand
side. And And then
as I said, you're losing that player
who's got the ability on the ball.
I just think they've I think we need one
more. And I don't like this. I think
it's classic Moyes to be like, "Well,
we've got four. And And I trust two of
them. And And I'll trust three of them,
but I trust Michael Keane. And I trust
Tarky." Like that's to me I I don't like
that way of thinking. I think we should
have got to gone and got another one.
So, I think defensively,
I think
I think we haven't looked as weak in a
while, I think, defensively. But But
he'll obviously set us up
>> Mhm.
>> in a way that Well, he did try that last
season. And certainly I think like set
pieces, we were terrible.
>> Yeah.
>> You know,
how many goals we conceded off set
pieces was was abysmal. And I know I
know things will have changed behind the
scenes. We've got a new coach. We've got
different programs and things. But
I think it's easier to teach like
younger players those things rather
than, you know,
old dogs.
Yeah, I mean listen and the Yerry having
four center backs and Michael Keane's
number four, you go, okay.
Injuries happen as we saw last he was
fourth choice last season he played 28
games or something 29 games so because
of injuries and because of the right
back. Now you'd like to think
Jake will just be considered as a center
back but that's what the lad wants so
therefore
if they did the right back first, you're
absolutely right about Seamus Coleman.
You know, couple of people took issue
with me saying Mason Holgate's done well
at right back the other day. I think
Mason Holgate has done well at right
back but Mason Holgate isn't a right
back. He's a midfield player so every
time we take him from midfield
and put him at right back, we're
weakening his position because
he wants to play in midfield cuz that's
what he is so
you need a specialist one I've said.
I'd have I'd have got Hector Bellerin
out of Barca, 8 and 1/2 million quid, 20
years old, loads of potential, can play
right back, left back, can play he he
was a he was a winger, he's good on the
ball.
You know, good physique and then still
try to get me number one or me number
two target and then you I've got to, you
know, and if it was having to be linked
with Santiago Arias for agency.
He's 30 so and he's excellent and he's a
warrior and all of that stuff and he'd
be he'd really improve Everton, there's
no question about that. But then if you
had another one then there could be
games where if he's lacking a little
bit, you can go right with you're
sitting on a bench with this one and
this lad's playing and that's how you
develop it. I'd like to see that, I
don't think they will but that's that's
how I'd like to see it.
>> that with Asmir. [clears throat]
Didn't he? So so what's the Do you know
what I mean?
>> Yeah, yeah.
>> If you were to say we're bringing this
young lad in and
he might get he might play in some games
and he might but he's going to be back
up and we're going to build him up for
the he's going to be the long term
replacement but we're probably also
making money on him.
>> Yeah.
>> Then then
that makes sense and I don't
for me I don't understand
why that isn't like why they haven't
done that anyway, why if there's an
opportunity like we saw with Asnew last
season, why they haven't just taken that
opportunity and gone, "Well, you know
what? We're going to go." And then if
they did bring a 30-year-old right back
in on a two two like on a two-year-one.
Like they've done with Nou Camp type,
everyone would just go,
"That makes sense."
>> that.
>> That makes total sense.
And they haven't, they've just like but
then that's that stage you're in the
direction that maybe they're going for
the middle ground and they're looking
for someone who's young and has got
a longer longer shelf life.
>> got the if they got Doig?
>> Yeah.
>> And they're still in the fight cuz he's
not gone nowhere. You've still got a
chance. If they got him he's 24.
And there's obviously the pair he's the
number one that they want. He's almost
like the perfect profile.
So he's a you look at him and go, "Well,
you get [clears throat] him and he's
your right back for a few years, but you
still should have another one."
>> Yeah.
>> 100%.
>> Cuz if he gets injured you're back to
square one or if he's tired or he's
coming into a new league or whatever.
But you've also got to have competition,
this is the thing. And for me with that
Hector Force
Patterson
if Everton got three or four million for
Nathan Patterson, he's a he's a bloody
playing the World Cup the Premier League
defender, he's 24. If you could get
three or four million for him if they
should be able to.
You know only paying essentially like
four and a half million for Hector Force
who's 20 and coming into a show.
Yeah, I don't I don't understand why we
haven't sort of pursued that one.
Um and especially if you know, if they
did end up with a a Castagne or someone
like that who's 30.
Do you know what I mean? And you'd have
a young one a 28-year-old and a
30-year-old to play there. So it was in
midfield sense obviously that's probably
where Everton are the strongest.
They're still on strings here and Sim E
de Boone and
we'll see how that's going late into the
window I imagine because he's
Yeah, I believe he isn't that far away
from fitness anyway, so I don't see all
the teams who'll probably come back for
him.
Carlos Alcaraz is is one who
I don't know whether he'll end up
staying or he won't stay, in, central
mid with the addition of Norgaard and
Hayden Hackney obviously is is quite a
That looks quite strong on paper,
doesn't it?
>> In numbers, yeah.
>> Mhm.
>> Do you mean numbers?
>> Mhm.
>> Um
Yeah, I I think yeah, Tim
said it all summer really. I think he
should he should move on.
>> Uh yeah, there's an opportunity, isn't
it, to change it round a little bit with
Norgaard sitting in front of the back
four.
Um
And then you've got Hackney who can do
the same job, but can also play higher.
Same with James Garner.
And we've got loads of options. I'm just
going back to like Meite and Rowe. Where
does Meite and Rowe fit in and where
does Hassen and Armstrong fit in? But I
think what they'll all do is push each
other and and it'll promote good
competition.
>> Yeah.
>> I think Jewison All
is, you know, your number one certainty
in there.
>> Yeah.
>> And I think I mean I
On paper it looks like it'll be James
Garner, Norgaard, and and Jewison All,
but I do think that
Hassen and Armstrong will push them. And
I think, you know, over the course of
the season Hayden Hackney will push them
as well. So,
um
Yeah, I think Carlos Alcaraz, yeah, I
don't he just doesn't look like he's
I don't I don't know I think maybe he's
a victim of like
not quite understanding what his role is
in the team as well.
>> Yeah.
>> Um
>> I think Jewison All did so well
off the striker that that sort of took
Alcaraz's up and he was injured a bit
quite a bit of last season as well.
>> he's
Yeah, I mean it's a weird he even just
like
even like Norgaard
James Garner, Jewison All is also just
like a little sort of
even that doesn't look it I don't know
it doesn't feel
it doesn't feel exactly right, are they?
You feel like the one the one who should
be in between should be
I don't know, bit of a
maybe different different skill sets
James Garner, but I don't I don't know
how it's going to work out, whether he's
going to keep like sort of
a double pivot again or or is he going
to trust Noble to just play
>> Just do it.
>> on his own.
So, it's it's going to be interesting.
>> And that's if Noble plays every game, of
course.
>> Yeah.
But, I get the feeling he will.
Just because I think like it's Would you
not say though that with them six
they're all probably going to be players
the manager trusts, which is a bit
>> I think now Yeah, I think now they do. I
think
>> I think Harrison Ashby has been a
>> Yeah.
>> I think I think he does trust trust
them.
>> Mhm.
>> Um And he's
um
you know, with Maelan as Maelan role as
well.
>> Mhm.
>> So, there's plenty in there.
Um
It'll just be down to his insistence of
the makeup is and how he changes it
round. I think by saying Hayden Hackney
is not quite ready,
I think we all sort of envisage that
anyway.
>> Yeah, yeah, yeah.
>> Um but it's up and all that.
>> Well, we got players now. We should What
What it does is he puts the pressure on
Moyes to say, "Well, after an hour then
you better start making changes.
>> Yeah.
>> You better start changing things up. You
better be the first to make a sub rather
than let it drag on and drag on and drag
on. And that that's something we've
we've moaned about. We moaned about last
season, sorry. And it got us into the
situation we were in with the with the
seven games to go with
>> Mhm.
>> players looking looking out on their
feet. And
he's got to start making those calls.
And I think that's where managers now
are
uh are making their money. It's
something you know, we saw one
move to the other club is is
They got very, very good at changing 16.
It's a 16 player game now.
>> Yeah.
>> Isn't it?
>> That's what it is.
>> Every week it's 16 in the squad.
>> You've got to have the bottle. Like
you've got to be prepared to say
And you've got to know when to as well
cuz
I I think Moyes last season got in his
own head for when players came on. The
first five minutes he was like
the first five minutes they're going to
be all over the place. And sometimes
they were.
>> Mhm.
>> But, you've got to just let play You've
got to know when to bring them on and
when is the right time to bring them on
so that that first five minutes isn't
like
a huge moment in the game and he's got
That's where Moyes has got to earn his
money this year is is is is
bringing them on and when he brings them
on and
that's not just in the center of park,
that's obviously in the wider areas as
well.
>> Well, I was just moving on to that with
the season ahead is like the wider areas
obviously at the moment we've got An J
Deblanc, on the other side we've got
Patrick Church.
>> Mhm.
>> You're looking at short and Brennan
Johnson of course who who is
I mean everything coming out of the club
is a replacement for Dwight McNeil so
he's not a wide he's not being seen as a
winger so to speak.
>> So there's obviously the Jack Grealish
issue as in Everton's plan is to still
bring him back.
>> But obviously there's a thing hanging
over An J Eleven and An J as well you
know City have just sold Savino so those
stories have started again now with An
J.
Two things on it. One, would you be
happy with Grealish replacing An J?
And two,
are are you if Grealish does come back
or he doesn't are you happy with the
options in the wider areas?
>> Well I'll answer the second question
first.
As it stands then
>> As it Well as it stands right now
>> if the window shut would you be happy
with them options?
>> I
I think yeah I think I'm I think I
probably would you know I think
I think there's
I think with Brennan Johnson and An J I
think you've got
It's not loads of experience let's not
forget him An J is going to be third
he's third season in the Premier League
and I think it'll be Brennan Johnson's
like fourth season in the Premier
League. So they're not like they're not
there's not loads of experience but but
there's enough experience.
And I think I've seen
seen enough of George and now we're
starting to see a little bit of Deblanc.
And I'd also throw Ashley into the mix
there of someone who could play maybe a
little bit higher up in games
um
if you needed them.
But but
And then it comes to again it all comes
back to the what we just said there
about Moise. If Greelish does come in
and you've suddenly got five, let's say.
>> Mhm.
>> It's more to do with Moise. It's more to
do with if exactly the signs for Evan
Jack you would expect to play every
single game.
>> Mhm.
>> And then it's all do you take him off
after 70 minutes?
>> Mhm.
>> Is it the same with Elman Jai? Or are
you going to do exactly the same? Do you
trust your wide men or do you or are you
going to flog them? And that's where it
comes down to Moise again. So it it
doesn't really matter like we've had
these discussions for all week. It's
like it doesn't really matter. It's all
comes down to Moise can say as much as
he wants about it having a squad.
>> Mhm.
>> But if he doesn't use the squad he's got
then
it's it's null and void. Um
I can I can see someone coming in for
Elman Jai in the next two weeks.
I think City, Manchester United
>> And possibly
>> Yeah.
And possibly Arsenal, yeah.
And it'll be
it'll be just be interesting to see what
Everton's position is on it considering
how late it is. But then it's like well
we've got
how far down the line are we with
Greelish? Is it just a case of picking
up a phone and just getting it done? Is
it Is that where we are or is it Is it
more complicated cuz the last thing and
maybe it might be a case of
if there is an inquiry about Elman Jai
and they're
they're willing to take it but then can
they get Greelish done first and then
and then get Yeah, I still think that's
got something to I still think because I
think
I still think when Elman Jai is saying
he wants to stay in the Premier League
sort of makes me think that
he knows that maybe there's something
coming. Um
So it'll be that will be interesting. I
still think yeah, I still think that
that that's
>> that's as far as you ask for a
replacement though.
>> I don't know. I mean I was prepared to
sell him and Jay and I sort of still am,
but the money has to be.
>> Yeah, but was for the money was that not
with the replacements in mind?
>> Yeah, that's what I'm saying. The money
has to be
the money has to be over in a place
where Everton can
get some quality in.
Um
I don't know who you'd I think I think
if it's Grealish and with all the other
players we've got, then I think I think
you'd have four wingers in there.
Do you really need five?
That's the question, isn't it? Do you
really need five?
>> But but it look even if Demarai
Demarai's nothing if that doesn't even
go anywhere cuz no one's going to pay
what Everton wants, which is which is
fine. A lot of people will be delighted
with that. That's fine. And Everton's
plan is still to get Jack Grealish.
We're we're going to have five anyway,
aren't we?
So
that's what I'm saying is Brennan, you
know, Brennan's going to be and Johnson
maybe off the right or off the off the
striker or maybe as the striker at times
or it's you know what I mean? It isn't
it isn't interesting. You know, it all
comes down to
people will say and rightly so, well,
you can have 30 men squad but the
manager is only interested in 15 or 14
cuz he doesn't want to use them. What's
the point?
And then obviously up front there's
loads of debate about the striker, loads
still. Personally I think Keinan Keinan
Davies had a good preseason. I think
he's looked a lot sharper.
The the shoulder thing's obviously out
the way now and that's good.
And he's looked brighter.
Batshuayi has not had as good a
preseason.
And there's still lots of rumors
swirling about him going again.
Um so where I mean where are you with
that? What
is it
Is would you have to look around and see
what you can get? Obviously Everton have
been linked with Richarlison again and
being linked with Gabriel Jesus as well.
Um me personally out of those two it's
Richarlison.
But
they've been and loaned the lots names
bounced around every single day as well
cuz obviously he's still in heaven
obviously have a long standard interest
so you're better off someone coming for
better and and everyone wanted to sell
him.
Who
what would you do with
Charlesson or that be is that too
sensitive I I think better will go and
we'll get the lot.
Yeah
it feels like I just feel like there's
that's what it looks like I just feel
like there's something there's something
there it's just like
Yeah better hasn't had
a great preseason and and it's sort of
similar to last year but I think that
body is looks a lot more looks looks
more capable he looks like he's had a
year of the Premier League and
and
better doesn't look like he's any better
like I know we walked in first day and
everyone was like looking at him oh my
god but he's like I haven't seen any
like any of that being used in the game
in the game so
I've just got a feeling like someone
like Forrester is just going to come in
and for better and and I think that will
open the doors to the lad cuz I think
Moises like
he's got his heart set on him. I think
it's like a shiny ring in a window and
he's just like walking past it all the
time looking and I think eventually he's
going to he's going to go but what about
Richarlison cuz obviously got
12 goals and three assists last season
for 11 goals and four assists sorry in
the Premier League in 32 games so he
he was fit most of and scored the goals
and got and obviously he's making a big
play to try and get back to Everton.
>> people would rather have Richarlison
let's be honest.
>> I think he would and Richarlison would
obviously love to come here.
And
I don't I don't know if I'd have any
issue I don't think I'd have an issue
with him coming back I think I'd just be
like
Yeah let's see what happens cuz
obviously he can play in the wide areas
as well and he can play as the second
striker as well.
And I think again that takes pressure
off
uh Gibbs-White and
puts pressure on other players as well.
So,
it wouldn't be the worst thing in the
world. I don't know what I'd be willing
to He's in the last year of his
contract.
>> Yeah, yeah, yeah.
>> So, I don't know what what the fact
>> it can't be anything big.
>> Unless they've got an add-on a year or
whatever. I can't imagine it's going to
be anything big. And the way they spend
their money
although they still haven't bought us a
center forward.
>> Well, Mangala is coming in as me.
>> Yeah.
>> It's what he showed. That's what the
owner will push him. And his manager did
say he can't make his mind up if he
wants to go or stay.
So, that's not helpful, is it? You know.
>> No, I don't I don't
Yeah, it'll be interesting to see what
happens, but I do think I do think again
it'll come down to
movement in the last few days and
Forest have just sold the stake and have
the need to cover it three
>> Coventry.
>> So, I'd be it will be interesting to see
what But, I do think I do think there'll
be like there will be something that
happens, but
>> Do you think he'll be the last?
>> I think Mouge wants the last.
>> Mhm.
>> Let's be honest, he wants a big
>> big unit to knock people about today.
>> Yeah, he wants
>> the bully.
>> Yeah, wants someone up front so he can
who can be a battering ram.
>> Mhm.
>> Um
But again, it's it'll Yeah, and again
someone who
The only issue with I had The only issue
I had is like
he's not
he's not better than Body.
And he hasn't got any experience. So,
it's to me it's My argument last year
was we needed someone with Body who
could
help him in the moments where he was
struggling and be that experienced
player who knew his way around the
Premier League and that's what That is
more of what Johnson
>> Mhm.
>> than it is
>> You mean Delap?
>> Liam Delap. Liam Delap's had two seasons
in the Premier League and one of
one of his with Ipswich and one he
barely played last season.
So,
I don't see him as that
I don't see him as a player who who
would be helping Body out. I think Body
would be helping him out.
So, he got more goals than him.
>> Mhm.
>> So,
yeah, that's a that's a weird one that.
But, I do I do think there'll still be
some movement. I just can't see Moyes
wanting
Bet so to be the backup striker
when he knows Barry's still going to
have Well, he's going to have games
where he's
>> Of course he is, yeah.
>> It's a It is a [clears throat] It's a
tough one, isn't it? Cuz stuff you see
there's not
easy wins with Premier League strikers.
>> No.
>> When you look at them, there's no one
where you can go, "Well, we get him. We
know he's getting, you know,
12, 15 goals, or whatever." You know, if
you had Dominic Calvert- quickly If you
had Dominic Calvert-Lewin still there,
you'd go, "Well, he can We know Dominic
will get goals, and he can play, and
he'll And therefore, Barry will be sound
learning off him, or
you know, whoever else you got a striker
like him, but he's not Calvert-Lewin,
but a striker like Calvert-Lewin, that
kind of player.
But, there's none of them who you can go
and look at and be a about, you know,
Richarlison.
Everyone else is a little bit of a sort
of guy
>> bullet think.
>> Yeah, and I think what would be
interesting is if you did get
Richarlison,
you could play a proper flat three
midfield, and a proper front three. And
I can you can imagine having Richarlison
on the left,
Barry in the middle, and say Brennan
Johnson on the right,
then you've got a proper front three
then.
You know,
>> They're not playing. They're playing in
>> No, I'm not saying it like Not saying
like that's the makeup of the team, but
you have a three rather than wingers.
Then you've got forwards playing in a
front three, and you have three
>> three forwards.
>> And suddenly you're Suddenly you've
given yourself a completely different
look.
>> I don't think they'd even have that with
with Richarlison straight in the middle
and Tariq George, cuz I think Tariq
George is more of a forward. I think he
wants He's His instinct is to get out of
the yard and shoot, isn't he?
>> Yeah.
>> Whereas Ellis to dribble, think Dibling
is to dribble.
>> But, I think that gives us What that
does to to us though, it does change us
from having
You know, the
>> 4-2-3-1, or whatever.
>> Going from that
to something that looks a little bit
more
attacking where does it own you could
just
rather than saying oh we're just going
to change body for better like we did
last season. Now you could change the
front front three around and be like if
you needed to go after the game or you
fancy yourself up against someone and
you thought I've got loads of energy in
midfield and I might be a game that God
sits out and it might suddenly become
like Harrison Armstrong Neil and Rollin
usually Hall or whatever it is. Suddenly
you've got three midfielders and it's
their job is just to get it forward and
then you've got these front three.
And and I think that
that doesn't just change the personnel.
It just change that changes the profile
of you playing and I think that's
something that we've been missing for
25 years.
It is is a different and let's be honest
Richarlison when he did play for us
before
it's why Dom got the goals he got. It's
because he had a strike partner with him
who played off him and Richarlison
scored his own goals. So
so maybe something like that would
really help where does I think if you do
if you go and get the laugh if it was
the laugh
you're getting
you're getting like a big rigid you're
getting a big rigid team again where is
it with Richarlison you you you can
change it up a bit.
So well come on then overall it it's
dead hard to do this because the
window's open still
and it looked different but what what
sitting here today you thought to ever
where do you where do you see maybe
whatever could do this season? Could
they get in the fight again like they
were last season with the European
place? It's tougher obviously because
you've got Spurs and two teams who
weren't in it are going to be Spurs and
Chelsea and they're definitely going to
be back in it.
And Newcastle weren't in it so it
doesn't really matter they weren't in
the European fight and they're still not
going to be in a European fight so it's
like
and I I do think
I do think uh
Sunderland being in there
means they're not going to have a good
the season.
And you can probably say the same for
Bournemouth as well.
How they how they spin the plates and
how they manage it once we get to like
September. So that will be interesting
to see.
Then you could sort of say well Chelsea
and Tottenham might replace them, but
doesn't always work like that. In fact
it it hasn't worked like that for the
last few years. But obviously they've
spent big to get back in there and it's
going to be really
who does drop out of there? And Man
United obviously say to themselves, so
it might be
it's going to be a tough year I think.
And I think because the three teams have
come up are
a little bit weaker, let's say, than the
ones who come up last year. I think
there's more points
getting getting pushed to the top. So
it's it's going to be it's going to be
tough. Everton have got to aim to finish
in the top half of the table.
And then let's see how the permutations
fall.
>> Yeah, cuz you hope it's it's top two or
eight again.
>> Yeah.
>> There's two cups that Everton should be
going.
>> Well that's that's the big thing, isn't
it?
>> They should be going. Carabao I know
you look back at the winners and you go
yeah, but it's the the team in the top
two or three that win it anyway, but
you've got to give yourself a go with
it.
Um
>> But if there's more teams this season
cuz I I I think Man United I think Man
City going to struggle this season. I
just don't not fancy their manager at
all. And I think losing Rodri and the
the I don't think the turn over of their
squad is happening quick enough.
But it's happening where players are
going in replacing players in one go.
That normally doesn't happen at City.
I think
so that will mean that
when it comes to the crunch moments in
the season, I think they're all going to
be like
we're going for it.
The league or we're going to and we're
going for our European stuff. And
actually we're going to leave that this
year. I think everyone's going to
I think everyone's going to be like
chasing
Champions League and chasing the league.
I still think maybe like, you know,
Spurs are going to want to obviously go
for something.
>> Of course, yeah.
>> But
Spurs are not massively better. They're
not like I'm not No one's looking at
Spurs going, "Wow, God, they're They're
both good players, but it doesn't mean
that doesn't mean anything."
>> Mhm.
>> Um but I I I think Everton have got to
take it very seriously, and obviously
that starts with the first game. You
know, away from home, it's going to be
tough, and
it'll show it'll show what where we are.
Because I think
the way people or the way, you know,
people talk about David Moyes, you think
if he does not take that game, I mean,
he'll take it seriously, but
No, Everton need to win.
>> It happens straight away. Can't go on.
Can't go on. Make wholesale changes and
then get beat, otherwise he's being
He will be under massive pressure.
The other thing as well, just to finish,
you know, the big variable is Newcastle.
They've got new managers. So, you know,
who knows what Liverpool They could be
brilliant with Eddie Howe, or they could
take them.
>> Yeah, could
>> take them slightly like it did with
Bournemouth, and and there's there's all
of that with with quite a few clubs. So,
>> And so many clubs depend on Champions
League football for their finances now,
because that's where the market they're
playing in.
But there is a massive pressure to So,
that's where And I think that's where
like the cups have opened up a little
bit is that yes, we always it always
seems to be the same teams, but
if you, you know, as Palace have shown,
if you can
you can creak that door open, suddenly
So, they're all open up to you, you
know, they're in the second
[clears throat] year of Europe, and
they'll think we, you know, that But
they'll be the same. They'll be like,
"Wow, that We win this."
Champions League football.
And that's So, they're like they're
going to be eyeing that up party, and I
think again, Premier League The A
Premier League team who's playing in the
Conference League should win it.
>> Absolutely.
>> And And whoever's in the UEFA Europa
Gosh. Whoever's in the Europa
>> should go far, shouldn't they?
>> should go really far. Now, whereas we
used to view that as being like, "Oh,
that's the trophy for the Germans or the
Spanish."
Premier League teams now should be like,
you know, last year it was
two two semi-finalists, you know, they
played each other, but it could have
easily been those two in the final. If
the draw would have ended up a little
bit different. In the end in the end of,
you know,
>> You know, the other teams shouldn't be
like Arsenal in the Champions League
>> and moonwalk that trophy in the end. It
was so easy. And I think that because of
the changes, obviously because there's
more teams in the Champions League now,
the Europa League's been weakened.
And again, that means Palace have an eye
on that and, you know, group stages and
how do they balance their squad? They've
got a new manager.
>> So, these are the kind of things
>> And these are the things that Everton
have got to take advantage of. They've
got to take advantage of these things
because once that door If that means if
if it means winning a If it means
don't not your eggs all your eggs in one
basket, but when those cups come out,
certainly the League Cup, and being
going after it, and that opens the door
to European football, you could be, you
know,
that's you're at the bottom end of the
the escalator that's going to take you
to the top. That's the way you've got to
look at it. Conference League, Europa
League, if that's the way you're going
to break into the Champions League, then
that's the that's what you've got to do.
>> In some ways, that's the easier route,
isn't it?
But, we'll see. Big season ahead. Let us
know what you think. It's obviously
difficult to win those still. Open see
other teams have got stuff to do.
Everton have still got stuff to do.
