Video summary
Everton secured a comfortable 2-0 victory over Crystal Palace in the first match of the season, marking a strong start that mirrors their successful opening home game last year. The team displayed moments of luck, particularly in the first half where several shots hit the post and a potential penalty was ruled out due to an offside call, yet they managed to hold onto the lead until the final whistle. While the defense faced some pressure and allowed Palace to control possession at times, the overall performance was solid enough to secure three crucial points without needing to chase the game late on.
The match narrative shifted significantly in the second half as Everton began to dominate and create genuine scoring opportunities. The breakthrough came when Jesus decided to take a shot on his own after previous chances were missed, smashing the ball into the net to make it 1-0. Following this goal, the team's attacking play improved with a well-executed free-kick routine that resulted in Tel Barry heading home for the second goal. This proper Everton goal demonstrated better movement and finishing compared to the first half, where the team struggled to break down Palace's defense by simply passing the ball across the front line without penetrating through the center.
As the game progressed, both managers made substitutions to alter the dynamic, with Everton bringing on James Garner to add creativity in midfield and address sloppy play that was giving away possession. Although the visitors managed a header off the bar late in the added time, they failed to convert their chances, leaving Everton content with the win but slightly disappointed not to have secured a third goal to top the league table alphabetically. The performance highlighted individual strengths such as Tariq George's brightness on the left and Iman Jai's magic, while also noting areas for improvement like quicker decision-making from George and more direct central penetration for the team.
Overall, the victory provides a fantastic boost of confidence heading into the next fixture against Bournemouth, with the manager likely feeling very pleased with the result despite minor regrets about missed chances and defensive lapses. The atmosphere in the South Stand was celebratory as fans enjoyed two hours of open access after the match, reflecting the joy of a clean win on the opening day. With key players like Jordan Pickford making early saves and the squad showing resilience against injuries, Everton is well-positioned to build momentum for the rest of the season, hoping that returning players can contribute even more as the campaign continues.

Welcome to TV from a very very wild hill
Dickinson Stadium. Everton have just
beaten Crystal Palace 2-0 to win the
first game of the season. And you know
what? It is very very similar to the
first home game last season with Everton
getting a little bit lucky at times but
ended up winning the game quite
comfortably. Um the team was exactly
what I thought it would be. George
playing
Tyler Dib
and sorry
guy on the other side and um
yeah it was a it was a typical sort of
first game back
first half first of all pulling off an
absolutely amazing day when the ball has
been clicked over Melon rolls head ever
they just about hit the post a couple of
times as well where we were very very
lucky to get away with um first half it
was just about sort of finding I think
it was like the team finding themselves
Merlin Ro playing at right back very
much looked like a center back playing
center midfield sorry playing right back
he was he was just getting caught all
over the place he was trying to press
from right back and he really his
positional sense was a little bit all
over the place not not to say like he
didn't do well. It's just that he was he
was all over the place which sort of
changed in the second half. I think in
the center of the park first half as
well I thought Harrison Armstrong and
Hackne
were leaving just a little bit too much
space and allowing Crystal Palace to get
too much on the ball um allowing them to
get up the pitch far too easy. And we
did we didn't really make too many
chances either. We were we were doing
that thing that Moyes teams is always
seems to do is just get the ball and
pass it across the entire front line
till it goes from one wing to the other.
I don't think we were going direct
through the center enough, which is
something I think this team has to start
doing. Um, and as I said, we rolled our
massively.
We should have really been behind.
Palace will be kicking themselves. And
it was a bit like that last season,
wasn't it? when they went up and they
missed about three or four chances and
obviously we've gone on and won the game
and again as I said like the first game
of the season last season when we played
Brighton
but we we started to started to change
things up a little bit and I think Kian
Jol just started getting a little bit
annoyed that the uh the ball wasn't
getting into the right areas or
certainly wasn't coming to him I think
Ty George was overdoing it a little bit
on the left Ilman and Jai probably
wasn't picking up the ball in the right
areas even though him and Nan Ro were
trying to get up that right hand side. I
think Jesus just just decided he was
going to take it on his own. I think
he'd already had a chance a couple of
minutes beforehand. Um but then this the
chance he took, he just decided I'm
going to take this. I'm going to do this
on me own and just smashed it in to give
Everton the lead. And he's going to take
something like that. Everton looked like
he might have got a penalty a little bit
earlier than that and thought that might
have been something that changed the
game. But got brought down in the box
and I think it definitely was a penalty
but he was offside because they were
checking on the V and obviously they
were checking the offside which seems to
me that it must have been a penalty. I
haven't seen it replayed so you you will
tell me in the comments whether it was a
penalty or not if you've watched it um
on TV
but Jhole smashed one in to make it 1
nil and give Everton the lead just
before Halime and I thought Everton come
on second half brilliantly. really went
at them. He really had a go at Palace,
changed things up and it was in that
time he got the goal. Men roll took a
really quick free kick got a tie and J
and he's put a brilliant cross into the
box and Tel Barry has put a fantastic
header in. It was a proper Everton goal.
Proper proper Everton goal cross from
one side and a center forward getting a
lovely header to make it 2-0. It could
have been three not long after. Good
football again winning the ball but that
has led to the ball coming in and Ilam
Jag gets a volley off. I I think he
should score personally because I think
he's got so much time to almost pick a
spot and he let Steen Henderson away
with a save and then it was they had to
make a few they made a few subs and then
they had to make a sub for the center
half which was sad to see center half
going off looked like looked like a bad
one just by his reaction just of going
down and being really quiet and
obviously he's been stretched off and
then Everton decided to make a couple of
subs themselves um
which just just James Ger come on just
to try and get over that midfield ball
in the midfield cuz we were starting to
give it away a little bit stupidly, a
little bit sloppy. We weren't building
up the play. We were just allowing them
to just get a few chances. Not not not
that they didn't they took any of them
or it was even close really. Um
obviously McNeel started the game from
then. He didn't really do anything and
he was he was subbed off really. I think
a lot of people were expecting him to
just smash one in um given an
opportunity but he didn't really do
anything for them. was he was sort of
like the Dwight McNeel that we saw in an
Everton shirt really. So,
and then we just we made the subs. James
Garner come on. It was great to see
James Garner get get um involved and he
came on and we just got hold of the
game. Bettle came on and didn't offer us
the same physical presence that we'd had
with Barry up front and again we didn't
quite he wasn't holding the ball up but
even with the seven added minutes they
had one header I think that went
straight into Jordan Pigford's hands. We
had we we had a couple of flashes across
the box. Um apart from that, we we we
done what we needed to do and it's just
fantastic. The only little thing is I
would love to have seen us get a third
just to be top of the league tonight.
That's the only little disappointing
thing. Maybe we're top of the league
alphab on alphabetically. I don't know.
Um
we'll wait. We'll wait and see. But
listen, we've got the three points.
David Moyes will be absolutely made up.
Um Men roll I thought offered so much
more at the right back position. Tariq
George was very very bright without
really having an end product. I think
that's he's just got to be a little bit
quicker in his decision making. Thought
Iman Jai showed all the magic that he he
showed for us um previously and be Barry
looks more more like a complete all
round center forward in that first game
and it's great that he's got off the
mark. He had a great preseason and he
scored a goal in his first Premier
League game and we've got off the mark
straight away. You know, last season we
had a head endless defeat at Lead United
and there was a lot of pressure going
into the first game. this year we've
managed to get the first home game won
um and we roll on to Bournemouth next
week and hopefully there might be you
know a deal done in the week or well
certainly Norard might be back as well
to sit in front but I don't think I
think Hackne and and um Harrison
Armstrong they had the moments they've
been brilliant you know Haknne is going
to have to quicken his play up a little
bit but I think for the most part he
done well give us a couple of scares by
going down injured which was a little
bit worrying but I think they were just
natural knocks just a center back
getting in the right place at the right
time. Um, and he took a couple of
knocks, but that was all right. And as I
said, Jordan picked up made an
absolutely worldly early on, didn't he,
to keep the score at 1 nil. So, um, he
done his job, although his kicking was a
little bit off during the game. And
can't be more happy, can you? The South
Stand's open for two hours after the
game as well, so you can't be uh, you
know, first game of the season,
Saturday, 3:00 kickoff. We win 2-0.
South Stand's open till till two hours
after the game. The lower park can come
up. I'm just waffling now. I know I'm
just waffling, but I'm just happy we've
won. We've won 2-0. Three points. Great
start to the season. Let it roll on to
next week. Nice one. Thank you for
watching. Make sure to check out my
player rating as well. I'll see you all
later.
