Evan have just been go [music] one n in the caraval cup third round [music] and quite frankly we made quite hard there for that finish. Yeah. Heat. [music] [music and singing] >> [music] >> This is the longest song ever. Yeah. Um, we made hard work of that. Um, I think we had something like 16 shots, five on target. But for Virginia had a great game. Fair play him. You know what? If we're going to win a game, let's at least Virginia had a really good game. He never really let us down as an Everton goalie. So, uh, fair play him. Evan obviously went with a strong team. Jack Gish coming on on one side, Dling on the other. Um the two center Arsel swapped out. Um I think my my main frustration tonight was the tempo of the game. Um, we played it at like a testimonial pace for most of the game and that frankly annoyed me and I think it annoyed a lot of people because it's about get it's all it is all about getting through and that's all that matters and we are through. I think it's just can we play at a slightly higher tempo so that we we put the opposition away and don't get me wrong we had plenty of chances tonight. plenty of chances to get the job done uh in the first half. Um Barry's had a fantastic chance just just before Halime. Grievous has had a shot that stung uh Virginia's hands. We've had a couple of other half chances in the second half. Again, lots of sort of opportunities that we never made the most of. Um but you know, it came down to one one moment. Uh before we come on to that, I thought I thought just on Tyler Dibble, I thought a lot of people talking about him tonight and and the fact and he needed to grab the game by the scruff of the neck. Well, after a bit of a slow start, I think he did I think he did grab the game by the scruff of the net. He ended up being man of the match voted by by the fans. He got the assist for the goal and I thought he was really good. At times I think he slowed it down just a little bit too much, but for the most part I thought he was um I thought he was excellent. He keeps the ball really well. He moves the ball really well. We saw that that running ability and that ability to change his direction while he's running. I think he needs a little bit more speed or a little bit of strength just to hold off defenders a little bit longer. Um, but I think he's a really talented footballer and I think Everton fans just don't didn't really know the jaw he was out with on. But I think tonight and I know it is against the Championship team, but I think tonight he's showing that he can be an asset to us whether it's starting games or coming off the bench. I really do think he can be an asset and I think he showed that. He got the assist for the goal. Kept it nice and simple. Played a lovely ball into Charlie Alcaras who was obviously a sub late late sub and he's done brilliantly. Charlie Alas to be fair. He has turned the defender and he's killed into the bottom corner. Um I thought it was an excellent goal. I think what really helped um Tyler Dylan tonight was having me Nars playing right back. I think Nathan R makes some really intelligent runs that really help anyone on that side. Um they take away the defender. We've been talking about this for so long about fullbacks that proper fullbacks who know how to move the opposition around. I think that really helped Tyler DS have m behind him an experienced defender who knows where to run and and when to run and take that player away. Um listen through that's all that matters. I was listen I was disappointed with a few players tonight. I was disappointed with Jack Leish, disappointed by Julie Hall. I thought he was didn't I don't think he's particularly started the season that well, apart from his goal against Crystal Palace. I thought I thought he was poor tonight and I thought he started chasing the game. I thought he started to like try and do things to affect the game when it wasn't really on for him. Um I thought Barry wasn't great either. I think again he I thought Gomez the center back um did did really well against him and again I think the header just before Halime I think he has to that has to go in the back of the net. Everything has to go in the back of the net. The ball him the goalie everything has to go into the back of the net. That's one of those where you should just be going right through it. But I think it was one of those. It was a great ball by um was pulled back by Jimmy Jimmy Gardner and um for me that should be that should just be smashed into the back of the net without any I know people got was a great save. No, for me it's not a great save for me. It's a missed chance by the center forward. I think it it should be put in. It's one of them where it's almost like nah this is going in no matter what. It should have gone in the back of the net and it didn't. Um I thought I was say what I was glad about. I was glad that Moyes took it either shot off and didn't take dibble off. George come on and give us that little bit of pace cuz that's what we were lacking. We were lacking that pace. Wolves never never done anything. Let's be honest. He never done anything by a one shot that Pigford should have dealt with a little bit better. Pikford was a little I kick at couple of the kicks towards the end. I don't know whether he's got a little niggle or what, but his kicking towards the end wasn't partic wasn't great. He caught we, you know, another one like Spurs the other day and then another one right in the last minute where just put your foot there, but no, he's took a touch and it's ended up going for a throw and but listen, we're through. That's all you can ask for. That is all you can ask for. We're through. And this is normally the stage where we go out. This is normally that stage where we go out. And I was really feeling it going to Pens because Wolves didn't deserve anything tonight. You know, the fans were good. Fair play to the fans, but they they didn't deserve anything. They were they were really really poor. The gulf between the Championship and the Premier League was on display, but we just couldn't make the chances and it needed a little bit of class. And the class come from Charlie Alka hasn't fair play to him. He's not really had a much much of a look in this season. But again, we spoke about it all week on the show saying that the manager's got to make the most of all of his squad and and he did tonight by by playing Tyler Diblin and hey Peyton Hackne was the other one I wasn't massively impressed with tonight. Um so but we've used the whole of our squad and that's that's a really important thing. Um we've we've we've between this game and and the last game and and probably on Saturday, we will use everyone by Brad and Graeme. Um so and and the and the other two goalies and that's really important I think going into the break. So um really happy with the I am delighted with the win honestly. I don't really I would love to have seen us, you know, be a little bit more comfortable tonight and and take our chances and get and and get the goals early. Um we didn't we we made it a little bit more of a journey for the fans tonight. Um but we're through and that that's all that mattered. And there was two sitting prime ministers here, Andy Burnham and Mark Carney. And again, imagine losing the game with those two here. That would be that'd be just so evident, wouldn't it?
