Ep01: Introduction to Quarky Intellio | AI AR Companion | DIY Robotics Kit
Watch on YouTubeVideo summary
The Quirkbot Intelio is introduced as a versatile DIY programmable board designed to bring artificial intelligence, augmented reality, and robotics education into the hands of makers through practical application rather than just theory. Powered by an ESP32 S3 controller, this device features built-in hardware including a 5-megapixel camera, a microphone, and a speaker, enabling it to see, hear, and respond to its environment in real time. Users can leverage these capabilities to create smart projects that interact with the physical world, such as live streaming audio and video over the internet or saving media directly to an expandable SD card that supports up to 32 GB of storage.
Beyond its core sensing abilities, the Intelio board offers extensive connectivity and customization options through various ports and indicators. It includes tactile buttons on the front for triggering custom actions, a programmable RGB LED for visual feedback, and specific pins for connecting external devices like accelerometers or temperature sensors via I2C communication. The device also supports motor control through a quirky mini expansion board and provides mounting holes for attaching servos or axles to build physical robots. Connectivity is handled via Wi-Fi on the 2.4 GHz band, Bluetooth 5.0, and a USB-C port for both charging and serial communication, all powered by an internal rechargeable lithium battery that supports several hours of intensive use.
Programming the Intelio is made accessible through Pictoblox block coding or Python, while its compatibility extends to hobby electronics components and other platforms like Arduino or Quirk. The device features intuitive status indicators, such as a blue light for power and Bluetooth pairing, an orange glow when charging, and a red light to warn of low battery levels. Once activated, the companion AI greets users with a friendly voice and can engage in simple conversations or record and play back sounds triggered by button presses, demonstrating its potential as an interactive desk assistant or voice-activated music player.
The video concludes by highlighting the vast array of projects possible with this hardware, ranging from secure treasure chests and face-unlock door bots to robots that detect objects, follow lanes, or interact with augmented reality markers. The possibilities for building intelligent AI-powered creations are presented as being directly proportional to the user's imagination, making the Intelio an ideal partner for makers ranging from beginners to advanced enthusiasts. Viewers are encouraged to subscribe for the next installment in the series, which will guide them through connecting the device to Pictoblox and starting to build these exciting step-by-step projects.

What if your robot could see, hear,
talk, and learn from the world around
it?
>> [laughter]
>> And hey, hey, this is Avni. I'm here to
get your hands-on with Quirkbot Intelio.
In this video series, we'll explore what
Intelio is, [music] how to power it on,
explore its features, connect it to
Pictoblox, and build exciting projects
[music] step-by-step. So, let's get
started. Now, Quirkbot Intelio is a DIY
programmable board powered by an ESP32
S3 controller. It helps you learn
artificial intelligence, augmented
reality, and robotics in hands-on way.
With its built-in camera, mic, and
speaker, Intelio can see, hear, and
respond, and helps you build real-world
smart projects instead [music] of just
learning theory. So, without wasting any
time, let me show you its important
features.
First up, Intelio comes equipped with a
built-in 5-megapixel camera, [music]
which you will use for vision-based
activities involving AI,
machine learning,
and augmented reality.
And here are the microphone and speaker,
which allows Intelio to listen and
respond to interactions. The best part,
you can live stream camera, mic, and
sound all together over internet in real
time, or save it on SD card.
Now, these are right and the left
tactile buttons [music]
that can be coded to trigger custom
actions. And here on the top, you can
see the programmable RGB LED used for
visual feedback.
On the right side, you'll find the power
switch,
charging port,
and a small black reset button.
On this side,
you will find the servo port,
along with two GPIO pins for external
connections for analog or digital
applications. Intelio's GPIO pins also
support I2C communication to connect
various devices like accelerometer or
temperature sensor among others.
Further in telli of uses I2C to
communicate with quirky mini expansion
board to control motors along with more
servos.
At the bottom you can see SD card slot
which is expandable up to 32 GB for
storing captured photos or videos, mic
recording as well as audio files. This
port can further be used for in telli of
playing the camera feed on an SPI TFT
display.
Then here is a mount for attaching a
servo or an axle is also provided at the
bottom. Now here you can see the
rechargeable 1000 mAh lithium battery
already inside this [music] in telli of
case. It provides a stable 3.7 to 4.2
volt output and supports up to 3.5 hours
of intensive use such as live video or
audio streaming.
You can charge it using USB C port.
And here you'll also find six mounting
holes for attaching construction parts
to build intelligent AI powered robots.
For connectivity in telli [music] of
supports wireless communication using
Wi-Fi at 2.4 GHz band only
>> [music]
>> and Bluetooth 5.0. It can also connect
with USB C port for serial
communication. You can program in telli
of in Pictoblox using block coding or
Python.
Oh, the best part compatibility. In
telli of is compatible with building
blocks. It also supports hobby
electronics DIY components like
different motors or sensor. It can also
connect with multiple boards like
Arduino
or quirky.
This allows you to leverage in telli of
amazing AI and AR capabilities with the
hardware that you're comfortable with.
Now that you have seen in telli of
features, let's get started by powering
it on. Slide the power switch
to turn it on. You'll see the lights
turn on and hear a greeting sound.
[music] Then follow the Intello's lead
to see it in action.
>> Hello, I'm Quirk Intello, your AI and AR
coding companion. Let's do something
fun.
Will you repeat after me?
I love AI.
>> I love AI.
>> Here's what I heard.
>> I love AI.
>> That was awesome. Let's do this again
with buttons. Press L button to record a
sound.
>> Intello can listen and talk using its
built-in microphone and speaker.
>> Now press the R button to play it.
>> So we have recorded the voice by using
the left button. Now to play it, I will
press the right button.
>> Intello can listen and talk using its
built-in microphone and speaker.
>> So this is your first conversation.
>> Let's connect Intello blocks for more AI
and AR power. Press the reset button to
activate Bluetooth.
>> Wasn't that amazing, right? So once
you're done, press the reset button, the
small black reset button
on the right side of Intello.
When the LED turns blue,
you can pair Quirk Intello to Pictoblox.
Also remember some important
indications. When Intello is turned on,
the power indicator glows blue.
If the battery runs low, then low
battery indicator glows red.
Simply recharge using a USB-C cable. You
will see that the charging indicator
glows orange.
Now do you want to explore what all you
can build with Intello? Using its
camera, you can make a secure treasure
chest or a door bot with face unlock or
build a robot that detects objects,
follows lanes or interact with augmented
reality markers. With its microphone and
speaker, you can make your own desk
companion which responds to your voice
commands or build a voice activated
music player. The possibilities of
projects are directly proportional to
your imagination. Intelio is a perfect
partner for a beginner to an advanced
DIY maker.
In the next video, we'll connect Intelio
to Pictoblox and start building projects
step by step. So, make sure you
subscribe and hit the bell icon. Until
then, happy learning.
