hi we're back in the Halo Universe welcome back Halo season 2 episode 3 are we excited I'm very ex I'm always excited to watch Halo season two like a hob drunken hobo stumbled into the room it's like what it's like you're watching Halo like oh Halo might be worthwhile to remind people of where we're at basically John Halo has concluded that the Covenant are on reach through pretty much no evidence at all other than wild assumptions and he's right they are and Mack's back she's alive even though she died and uh they're on reach they went to sword base which didn't really look they're going to viad and then we teleported to sword base I guess John Halo read Eric nyland's the Fall Of Reach play G played reach and he was like oh man dude sword Bas is a very long Corridor it's a longc it's a long dark concrete Corridor with the Doran alien artifact they send four men into the Shadows one Squad oh that [ __ ] was so stupid thought that was really cool they did and of course they really don't want you to remember what happened in season 1 because you were just left to wonder what happened in the 6 months between season 1 where all of the events of the story revolved around John Halo and his connection to the keystones of the Forerunner artifacts what happened between then and 6 months later where they're now housed in separate locations with seemingly no further testing done on them because they could have used those to find Halo what's upana what's up with him yeah that's undid a lot of payoffs in season one's ending because they were like [ __ ] we don't to go that direction actually the thing is they've done that but they've still got them because she went there to get the Keystone so it must be of some significance but 6 months of nothing seemingly having happened with those uh plot elements it feels like a massive reset yeah I feel refreshed having not seen the first season I just find it so interesting that they've they've done this but then they were like well we got to keep Mack though because we need her she yeah she's great favorite John Halo you know he's okay he's he's all right but Macky oh that's uh that's Halo right there that's the spirit of Halo we got to bring back Quan and her oh God are they only back because of a contractual obligation that those actresses got two season this whole show is a contractual obligation I don't know if this show lasts much longer this it seems too expensive and too not interesting enough to keep people engaged zero chance of the season 3 is my bed imagine if it ended before they actually got to Halo yeah that that would be amazing Halo would remain untouched untarnished unspoiled yeah cuz I mean if they've done this to the Covenant imagine what they're going to do to the flood like can you imagine there will absolutely be Paramount plus Halo fans who say you know what it's good that they never got to Halo so then that part can always be in our imaginations positive reviews can always be in our imagination oh it's Mackie they have cameras on their helmets and yet this big mystery for these first two episodes hinges on well what you said doesn't seem likely but he has a camera don't you quit you remember John Halo making doam the death string level get up my dad comes back he'll protect us he's not coming back do you like how the previously Act is just a cring compilation they left out the cringe of sain's wife screaming this is sain's ship they're saying boo ears boo ears where's the Admiral ambushing John Halo in the elevator Bo take your clothes off do we get any nakeds at all I don't remember season one no we saw Master Chief's ass you better tell them to expect the Covenant I don't know what the angle is here with the only thing as well like I don't I don't get it he's British so he's evil we need an antagonist in this early part and he fits the bill we're cleared for combat FMA oh yeah he was able to get a pelican and get the crew crew he roped them into a uh into an evil scheme well I guess a heroic scheme from his perspective but committed to I can't believe he's trying to stop the Covenant she is the worst element of season 1 if you were to boil it down to an individual entity she's the worst part she represents the really bad writing attitude and perspective towards the games that the writers had of like who we need a human in the Covenant probably like I just got to imagine that that was a think you how people hated Arbiter nobody likes aliens got to put a lame human in there any Cobalt element this is silver 3 we are on route to your position how copy any Cobalt element but Cobalt is an element I I'm already confused the science is all wrong talking about Cobalt team remember oh my goodness you're right I was thinking about the periodic table which is more exciting thany the relay relay this is Sil 3 radio check you know when they said they had to remember that in chemistry class I was like there's no [ __ ] way I'm remembering that I'm sorry they already the Cobalt is an element no the periodic table do you remember the noble gases um Bots helium neon argon Krypton Xenon radon yeah chemistry was definitely my weakness good job and I did not do well at chemistry either no I can't tell cuz I can't see his face how could they do this to us I like that all the helmet scenes look fake released a video I think of adding his helmet to all the scenes in Halo season 1 command thinks this planet's Untouchable they haven't seen what we've seen the same right here they've given up on the Iron Man uh in you know the camera like in the helmet they've given up they did that a lot in season one dude I'm just waiting for a [ __ ] thing to happen where Falls over and the helmet comes off he's just like oh whoops or it'll be that the the Visa smashes or he'll lose the entire set of we got very few examples of it but every time they make a character keep their [ __ ] on everyone's very happy about it even when they're famous K Urban Ryan Reynolds committed as well because you know that the actors themselves know how important it is well they recognize that there is an art Direction and intention with the design in its totality that when you remove one element you potentially lose a lot more than you might think Master Chief was designed in a very very specific way so yeah when the helmet don't look the same man it would be so funny if we didn't get to Halo I like the symbolism of them showing us what's inside the helmet just to make sure also I like how they show the the the show is trying to act like Halo is a mystery but then they just say in the credits no There It Is Well we all know cuz we're all we all know because we we give a [ __ ] we're just we're just waiting for them to get to that point anyways that's the other thing I was going to mention is that we're all aware of his [ __ ] meta comments about the helmet which doesn't help like if he did about any of his commentary on the helmet then this would be slightly less cringe what flashlights they have this Tech that might have saved some lives last episode see if you can get the power up I like how every military place that we see in this show is like a concrete Place everything's concrete it looks quite quickly constructed almost looks like [ __ ] in some way almost SLA Dash no sound of cobalt no breach marks just def in the Halo fans so they can't hear the rest of the episode like how many people are still watching Sir unfortun wouldn't it be strange that you didn't hear from an entire military installation wouldn't that already no sight on his DMR there's no sights on his TMR he doesn't need him he's got skills it's a Commando from Halo infinite is [Music] it you done [ __ ] it up oh wow that's ominous point out like how much of a shame it is that the show isn't awesome because there's plenty you can do with the good old Halo yeah absolutely cuz I was just thinking about if they had the flood as well how creepy they would be at this like level production I don't know what they're doing here of like her having some weird psychic like moss code connection figuring things out tell your team to lower their weapons Master Chief oh wow who the [ __ ] are you you Chief now well I mean that's obviously not going to work these are spots supposed to be a little more careful with something like that like a gun standof with these guys probably not a good idea you are impeding my mission there is no Mission you stole a condor what wow good my gosh oh my God accountability for his obviously bad decisions what is she talking about you're not even authorized to be in those suits right now let alone pointing a gun up my face I'm shocked at the show it's just funny how his plan completely unraveled after what couple hours tell me where Cobalt is or I'm going through that door I do like that he's like this is a spooky door okay I can't I can't just not deal with the spooky door down wait what do not fire dude what if they just open fired would the other spots have actually shot and killed them dude he's so lucky they didn't just open fire they were here I can prove it you catch the editing on that too he was like disarm lady door open and it's like door was way further away the lady disappeared too this looks eerily similar to the hospital set from Ahsoka a little bit with the single window shape like that I'm there's no reason to assum I'm on the lookout for expanse props at this point yeah I might have to go away I have to go to Halo and fight the Covenant is this about that thing that you weren't supposed to tell me you weren't supposed to remember I'm just asking you what's Halo about this scene this is what combat this what I mean you don't understand yeah the games the pew pew that's fun but we need the human drama that's what we it's funny too cuz this guy's not even this is a season 2 character exclusively too you know who built that bridge me and your uncle out there's a lot of history to this place it would be unfortunate if anything happened to it it's kind of funny they've had the benefit of getting to have a whole bunch of story happen on reach but yet why would anybody who's watched this show alone have been able to form any conclusions about reach as a place at all other than yeah I guess it's a place where people live it's just like a normal human Place yeah I really wouldn't be surprised if the average person knew nothing about Halo would just be like is this Earth is that Earth yeah like even though they all say reach it's like oh is reach what they call Earth oh yeah you're right that might legitimately be yeah Hal reach spent about 10 minutes setting up what humans were like on reach before the Covenant showed up they didn't need this all this well one of the things they had the limitations of we need a game where we have combat with the Covenant which means that we can't spend 2 3 hours walking around talking to people you know there are certain choices that you can't make when you need to facilitate gameplay in that sense and yet in the case of this show how well have They seized the time that's afforded to them these hours and hours and hours and we hate all they've done is they've made me hate everyone and everything promise me you won't let them take me alive he's got little on patch look at that scene seemed in offensive absent without leave unauthorized deployment of weapon systems oh John Halo's in trouble good pointing a loaded weapon in the face of an officer yeah that was pretty bad wasn't it what do you even call stealing a goddamn Condor you can steal vehicles in the Halo game so it's can that's true hold X that's true Cobalt was deployed to actus 4 I saw Cobalt's flight plan they changed it he's he's looking they're going to have to provide they're going to have to provide some big reason as to why any of this would be getting changed or messed around with or why on would not want to believe him or follow up on anything that he said I know he's a crazy guy but like from their perspective as writers what we need conflict before the Covenant show up and we just don't have the budget to do it until like episode 4 John 117 is relieved from active duty he said you need a psychological evaluation and then Chief reacted a what I will be confined to Barracks till he clears a psychiatric evaluation or what you wish he was SM the character to know how he sounds well yeah that should be when he turns around and all the other four are looking at him and they're like what the [ __ ] and then he's like oh oh yeah I got to be careful you lied to us oh I like as well like you lied to us oh wasn't it [ __ ] obvious when you guys asked him the questions Cobalt was at VR je can I talk to this is only all of it this is Aon dude he's such an unhinged lunatic it's hilarious they've done a great job translating him from the games you are out of control what you're not thinking straight you're erratic he's no more erratic than he was in season one what am I the biggest douche of the universe since when do you question my judgments Chief that's not what you ask that's not the question you ask when people think you're crazy since you started seeing dead people please don't tell people I see dead people I'm trying to help you the show needs all the help it can get John I'm trying to talk to you as your friend I don't need a friend Betty officer I need Spartan yeah you're you're crazy what a pathetic line read like why did they want why did they want Chief to be this way like why what is is this like an Android no this is sain's wife yeah oh oh right sorry she hasn't been to human school and now they're like all right back over to the expans subplot the 20 minutes of expans sub budget well that's uh that's Quan obviously right why didn't you just tap me on the shoulder and say come this way the [ __ ] is wrong with people you're in danger I can see that not from rubyan I'm talking about your crew rubyan bought them off you remember how when the crew left we were like wait what the [ __ ] they just left I guess that's on purpose they abandoned him on purpose what if he didn't decide to go I feel like the whole plan hinged on the fact that he decided to personally go of course it does yeah cuz they wanted him specifically he could have just said you guys can handle this right I've got other things to do I guess they would have been like no saurin you're going to lead us to Victory come on man it's Master Chief yeah no it's John Halo get it right who's Master Chief You Know Chief from Obi and the chief isn't more accurate Chief than this Chief just say this is yeah he saves the day you know occasionally myle cop cares that's literally just the action figure that they sold with Halo infinite yeah it actually is I have it that's that's kind of an interesting instance of product placement SL promotion isn't it I'm pretty sure those are all off the shelves now they all got like clearanced out you half inclined to believe that the kid in the scene is a fan he brought his toy to set they're like yeah we could just use that you go ahead I'll meet you at the ship we can wait don't trouble yourselves I like how they relent and like oh okay then it's no trouble oh wait she's not good nothing wrong with the Halo infinite Chief armor though it's a pretty good figure they probably just bought it from The Real World what they just went to Kmart went yeah they went to Target or Kmart it's the one Halo prop on the expans I think one of the things that can be shocking about set design and stuff is that the people who do it do genuinely buy [ __ ] from their local market and like eBay do you remember there was The Masks of the people in Batwoman you could Google their the masks from like eBay or whatever or or Amazon but when you can do that and then cover it like you can't tell that's what they did that's when you're like oh that's good [ __ ] but when it's just the one to one you're like oh I have a question who are any of these characters in relation to the games the people oh people related to the yeah they're the expans people we don't like this any more than you do chief you get any closer we're going to have to talk about our feelings no a he going to beat him up elevator a nice cool you could have killed themy system punching a regular guy in the face we just saw what he did he went flying more likely they're not they're done look who I found hey join us for dinner I hope you're hungry I can give you some treatment after we eat yeah I am wondering what they're doing with this new subplot that they've uh given for Riz when she was not a character in the first season she given a lot of time in season 2 I also like the beginning of what you were saying they're everything I don't know what they're doing with and then dot dot dot we don't have a lot of money in our budget and we got to space this out but they've got it's not a cheap show you can see that but at the same time it doesn't come across as expensive as it could be either I like the idea that the three of them are like going to have a meal they're like can you can you film it and they're like what it's like can you just can you fil it and it might just be at one of their Apartments because what I was going to say is the production design is not very interesting in this show and that's what makes it look cheap it's pretty dull it is completely Inseparable from every other hardish Sci-Fi show/ series you'd probably ever see it is separable it's got an Avant guard approach to blur Zack Snider was a consultant on the like the ladies out of focus right now like what the [ __ ] Chief went outside the chain there needs to be discipline I get that but we are not built to sit around and wait I I find it interesting again that another big plot element that they have just dropped and decided not to do anything with is that they were all very upset about uh what happened to them that they got abducted and put into the Spartan program but it's it's done like they're just now operating within the UNC without any there's just no thought paid to that that's just an element that they've dropped as well I asked you if you had concerns about John's mental stability and you said before what before he was before he was sending us on illegal missions based on Visions in his head and going to strip clubs oh God you're right he did go to the robot oh this guy's finally bringing up that he [ __ ] Macky and that that is bizarre since cotana was removed or since John interacted with the Covenant agent kind of weird that he did that generally having sex with the Covenant princess is a bizarre thing to do generally what are you implying sometimes people don't get better he's talking about his dad so when's she coming your sister she's gone dad damn well know that don't don't think that I don't know that oh my gosh this is like some level of setup for a thing that he said that has subtext holy [ __ ] tell me what to do oh no no we're back in that was almost a scene why are we doing this yeah that was like actually a scene that called back but not like explicitly to another scene that we saw but that was actually kind of like a bit of film making and now we're back in spaceand maybe somebody who made this to the criticism maybe we left magical with four ships we arrived with one histic process here before you're indentured this is where you go before you're indentured implying that every single Refugee from a planet that's been glassed is turned into a slave by the government or like the unsa yeah we need to make a grim dark I'm sorry for what happened to you don't be I wonder if we're going to see any Covenant this episode they got to save all their money for episode 4 I'm not supposed to be here this isn't my life I failed my responsibility to my people and my Planet she's addressing the fact that they wrote out her storyline they cut it off I failed my people so funny my family protected magical for more Generations than anyone can count they realized I was a completely pointless [ __ ] thing and so now I've been rid she's kind of like roseo yeah she's like trying to invent reasons for her to still be in the story they have the Forerunner thing that they tried to establish with her that'll be the reason why she stays in but they' given up on the main subplot that she had which was the madreal Independence but like I mean what did she expect that she could do if the Covenant just showed off what are you going to do well that's the thing though fry she had the plot on sideous about this kid remember in uh season one she fired one bullet at like a thing at their little Tower and it blew up the whole uh Colony defeating all the bad guys and they were fine also for the record the line about Rose Tio and red Skout is one of the funniest things that happen in a movie I would love to go on your adventure with you but I'm busy doing things sorry what was that that woman oh like a hatch she very much captures like a an alien that's possessed a human body she really does yeah she's like a syon even that expression there The Way She Moves too she's an AI actress oh cool oh does she know how to fly a ship why not the new AI that makes video If You typed in Halo TV show would it come up with something better or worse than this it would just come up with this they're going to close the gate this is going to be intense guys oh my God shockingly they're trying to close the gate dude how many times have we seen this scene uh too many times I'm thinking over okay what's the first thing that comes to you guys' mind mine's Independence Day is she going to turn sideways D it oh wow she didn't get W oh no we're going to drag this out what are you doing wait for my move then get Kesler out of here man that was a big fail huh it's worth enough to get both of you on that transport promise me you'll get him on that ship why is the mom sacrificing herself she's going to open up the air he's going to open up the door they can sneak through while she distracts I love you human child heroic sacrifice or my affectionate relative not possible if your plan is to just start a fight with five people why not go she's just so strong and powerful we found calt team 80 from the Rel oh those SP all died they all died off screen y Cobalt te one scene introducing them I knew it that seed was like oh we're we're fun we like each other here we ban to win Cobalt team isn't it sad we dead now there are no bodies they we listed as n that seems like a free action scene that they could have given us why not too much too much mive but they spend all their money anyway yeah but we have to spend it on other things like that exciting sequence where she tried to get out of the space station with her spaceship but the door got closed so she couldn't do it it was pretty epic I won't deny that Master Chief's suspicions were valid when you sent our soldiers out into a hostile I resent soldiers get sent into hostile places a lot but without John Halo's claim is not notable you should expect that the C might show up this day was inevitable in every simulation the result is not a goddamn simulation right it's not the simulation said this would happen this isn't a simulation oh okay then never mind we need to initiate the winter contingency oo he said the thing winter contingency you know win contingency remember reach is that when it gets really cold begin immediate civilian evacuation it's over Admiral Covenant element hit cobal team days ago we can only assume the Covenant Fleet isn't far behind days ago Sor now now is when you must start evacuating I'm confused why isn't this more urgent as news there is a plan in place but it's going to require some hard choices do they not care that reach which is if they're doing it similar to the games is the UNC main Hub of operations no see they're evil they're just giving up we're not going to fight I didn't say that yeah they actually want to lose I guess they're they the show is making me think that that's the case if you send out an evacuation alert we'll have chaos Panic the idea of saying I don't want to send you an evacuation order because that will create mass panic when you're talking about an alien invasion yeah what do you think is going to cause more mass panic yeah guys we need to hey guys the C are going to be here we should leave there might be more Panic with the announcement because the other one would just lead to more death so you know maybe but you still get you're getting a certain amount of people off the planet whereas if they sit around and get glass like I mean maybe my British sarcasm didn't come through what I'm saying is they will be less panicked because they won't be as many people alive essential assets are being transported off the planet as we speak I won't run what are they doing here why would they make it that this is the way that it's going to play out that they're just going to give up rather than fighting as hard as possible for reach can I count on you go [ __ ] yourself Banger line go [ __ ] yourself I don't know what they're doing here I I do not understand why this is the angle that they would go with rather than fighting aggressively to save reach where's my husband is he alive oh my God can the Covenant just invad F the you can actually fight theen in reach it's later that they come to the conclusion oh we we we've lost we can't win but like at first they actually try to save the planet it was a very dramatic moment when uh George blows up the massive Covenant carria and then the whole Covenant Fleet just shows up straight away I think it was said about Star Trek's old stuff is his new stuff and you can kind of sense it in this the um very official government stuff like a lot of people will just do the thrown in W that feel like they shouldn't be there and being hyper emotional when shouldn't be there you almost like the um more official ways of Behaving that way instead they throw in like the like their [ __ ] children this conversation's over you're dismissed right but this is the end of the conversation Captain if I could you can't try it no thank you oh you're you're out you escaped he did he you got out of there was not a single camera that just notice oh that's John Hao walking around with uh nobody didn't show up for his appointment you who had this problem we're not in control no he has not always had that problem he used to be completely compliant we have a common goal to win the war everybody has the goal of winning the war of course no my goal is to lose the war well I mean that last guys goal we have Covenant plants in Oni well remember that guy was like better dead than panicked well they have humans in the Covenant now so how many people in this scenario I've had sex with one of those Covenant humans I believe the Covenant is here and nobody seems to be listening only your voice this is always how I imagined Master Chief as a kid this is defin conly yelling at people I think I as a kid was more mellow than he is why do you fight John cuz the script oh my God why do you fight John it's a big question lady and then he was the aliens and then John was an [Music] alien what the [ __ ] to defend our home preserve Humanity no you fight because I tell you to who the [ __ ] are you cutting deep you are a Soldier be a soldier no you're what what soldiers don't fight for their homelands and their people and they fight because they follow ERS of course shout out to all the veterans watching Halo season 2 you only followed orders so are they going to like fist fight Master Chief or what when exactly did you leave only Admiral she's like you fight because I tell you to he could have just like picked her up with one hand and be like yeah what are you telling me to do now like I don't know why would say that to a guy like that did these guys seriously expect to win in a fist fight with John Halo in every other confrontation they brought guns why didn't they bring them to this one well wasn't that kind of the premise of him calling that lady on her Bluff when she had the gun on him it was just yeah I mean you might order these guys to shoot me but none of them were going to want to fight for Spartans to compliment Halo 4 you remember the scene where they wanted to arrest uh Master Chief and then the captains like screaming to arrest him but of course nobody wants to arrest him Master Chief the guy who saved Humanity he hasn't done anything that I think at this point he's they're just not arring him cuz they're scared but there's no reverence for him which of course this John Halo why would there be any reverence he's a lunatic why are you here I just came to say goodbye I'm leaving it's funny that they're in the one place where they can simulate anything and of course they chose like the the cheapest set they could think of to do it yeah this is like the kind of villa you rent out for like a wedding or something these things that you made they are going to become the foundation for something extraordinary and I hope that gives you some comfort and they were like like no less set dressing less objects can we record this in my in my living room again something that someone brought with them to set they were like this is my lucky is the symbolism of the white cello remember the cello from the Halo theme did you think I didn't know who she was I remember all of them especially your sister wait what was his sister one of the people abducted and put in the spot in program I believe that's the implication yes that's why he's so pissed off about it you never know who's going to make it through the augmentation and who isn't and she didn't and so was this meant to be the reason why he has that that the show would believe is an irrational dislike of Spartans he feels like an overcorrection to me because he's not in season one obviously in season 2 he's got more screen time than many season one characters yeah he's got more screen time than Hy got more screen time than Keys more screen time he's going to die this season so oh definitely he ain't making it out of it alive she loved you very much and I hope that gives you some comfort oh see subtext again I'm a little surprised that was a of a jokeer grd there devastated by this information it was okay drama oh my goodness it's drama man you know what would be really bold if they came back and she was dead I I don't know I wouldn't just [ __ ] kill her good to you onus thank you for allowing me to barely exist and to scrape out a meager living why are we doing this drama why are we going to see a covenant this episode I actually don't think so now we only got like 14 minutes left think if it was charging the batteries to give us a full maybe maybe right at the very end we'll see the Covenant with somebody please deal with that I can't hear myself think you can't hear yourself think about in this little pinky alarm that's a bit that's a bit sus you know where he stashed it stashed what the treasure the one piece The Hand of Midas sa tells you everything why would he tell me wouldn't he be smart enough to not tell me if there was a treasure ruon doesn't want the money she wants the rubble why it wasn't loaded before but now in the grand scheme of the Covenant of destroying everything why would who individually wants to take control of a space station matter that much is that a lever action hell yeah they got it from the they got it from the Firefly set [ __ ] was making that sound it's got to be Quan right luring him out and then fighting him so P ra lever action yeah also there's no sights on it either so it's yet another gun in Halo that does not have sights on it no sights but a full rail it's actually odd how many things like shows we've seen that just don't put sights on stuff in fact R's pointing it out it so much we went through the entirety of a Resident Evil movie listen we could barely afford printing the gun we're we're not going to put a [ __ ] attachment on it where is it I can't tell you because it doesn't exist and if it did exist I wouldn't tell you you probably just have some guy in the production team who's into guns and you just say hey can you bring a couple and well yeah I was going to say the probably who's doing it doesn't even know what the sites are maybe it's like Star Wars you just sort of point it at things and they die right I mean I guess if you want this it's cringe as what it is you you have 1 minute to rethink your position oh taking CL why she B if she thought she could use the keypad need to do now is lie think of Kesler who's going to look after him just lie just say where it is where it's not just tell me what I want to know yeah there you go oh Kanan got him yeah or all off screen since when is Quan like this super mega Ninja Assassin she never was she was just some chick with plot armor running away from I suppose you don't need to be she realized she has spot armor and now she's using it bought Master Chief in a dream one time and now she a ninja see you suggested at last episode that uh she's been training in her dreams it's like um it's like Assassin's Creed she has her own animus remember when she stabbed a guy in the temple with a thermometer qu I feel like Quan's a unhinged I asked you a question what what just that just happened so casually really wow so she just snuck off and that's that's the end of her then damn didn't she have a gun I was going to say what the [ __ ] was that they didn't they overas ize how much she had that gun she walked up to him and just allowed her to stab her that was that because she views her gun as a melee weapon because it doesn't have sights I need to speak with corpal Perez how was there not like a massive Red Alert of John Halo man he's gone he is not where we think he is meant to be going he's wearing his UNC 1117 vest though what time is it he going to kill his dad in the scene you know it's a good assumption that he'll kill the dad actually sorry we can't evacuate you and you asked me not doing that yeah that makes no sense at all that was not at all the plot of any of the reach stories they were trying whatever they could to save it there are aliens they want to kill us we have an ] up they heard the names and were like oh my God I'm so excited it's the thing from the games I do not understand why they are doing it this way my best guess would be that it was something that I think you said earlier patrici which is like well we got to find a way to fill time we got to have a mystery Intrigue oh Mystery Box why is Oni acting so weirdly oh is John Halo o or is he crazy and then it's just to fill up time until they get to the actual like main conflict that they dude think of the amount of time stuff took up that's like 30% of the the show is the uh saign expans subplot it's like a show they were going to leave and then they got stopped they' fiddle around with those guys for ages kill them all and then actually leave like they could have just left but now they've also got the angle of oh but the the kid he's not there got left behind so there'll be more drama and Intrigue there I do not understand what they're going for with Oni and also the UNC broadly knowing that reach is about to get invaded by the Covenant and that they're just like oh well you win some you lose some there wasn't much of it in season one but there was certainly more of the command of the UNC there was a scene where you had Lord Hood having a conversation with a bunch of officers about what they were going to do and over side and people trying to get power and losing power it was all pretty badly written but it was there and now it's it's like gone if you were to asked someone in the show well who's in charge of essentially the UNSC broadly it's like I guess the only guy even though they said that he was just in charge of the Spartan program but it seems like he's got way more power than that why would they have made him in charge of the Spartan program if they if they knew that his sister was in it and died they would that would disqualify him from like a massive potential conflict of interest yeah like he's too he's got too much of a personal potential stake in this or and keys would know well enough cuz Keys was involved so maybe it's something that he doesn't know or maybe we're meant to conclude it's like oh maybe he covered it up or maybe it's it's just that they will never address it and there's precedent for them to just forget things in season 3 so if you were to look at what happened in season 1 and what the central plot elements of That season work compared to season 2 it is a massive redirection season 1 was all about those keystones it was all about John Halo rediscovering his humanity and everything and then his connection with macki and trying to set up the Quan subplot to do with madra go and fighting for their independence but maybe has something to do with the forerunners and now it's just hardcore to like oh reach full of reach full of reach we got to do Full Of Reach we got to do that because that's what people want to see but if they know that's what people want to see why don't they just get to the [ __ ] point you haven't you're not a screenwriter you need to build up the character drama and the Mystery to keep people hooked because you can't just have the conflict be what it is and everybody understands what it is that's not enough Intrigue and mystery there I just can't help but think though that even if you want to fill time have the season begin with the invasion of reach and then all your quiet human moments where people just talk have those be like people hiding from the Covenant on reach like the ODST story line through the superintendent of people in newasa when it got attacked by the Covenant you can have an intense situation be ongoing and still have Quiet Moments that you can fill absolutely there were Qui moments in reach if they were making a Halo C adaptation would it start with four episodes of them just hanging out on the pillar of Autumn and then having like interpersonal conflicts the story of Halo essentially plays out as there was a conflict going on and master chief as a basically totally static character is like a main driver of the event events that are happening but the conflict in the world is interesting enough that that's what carries you through like uncovering the mysteries of Halo as a place and how it directly connects to the conflict and how it blows the doors open on like the true nature of the Galaxy and and those things are interesting enough to carry you through while just going through standard like well we got to save these marines then we got to go save Keys now we're going to launch our attack these as like binding elements to carry the story forward they worked for the game there's really no reason to assume that you couldn't just translate them over maybe make some changes here or there and that it would work but I imagine that for them it was just never on the cards because they're like yeah those are the pew pew shooty shooty games not like our riviting human drama I can't not see that attitude permeating throughout this entire show into season 2 you could so easily say okay Halo there's 10 missions in that game we need to make a 10 episode show do not think that you could be like write a script so that there is a ton of dialogue and a ton of character in these things and that we only have one action scene per episode and that is how we'll be able to afford making this show the problem is that you know when you look at this season for as much as it is a course correction even they seem to realize that to some extent they're locked in they obviously feel that they're locked in on the Quan subplot of whatever they're going to do that they probably feel like they're locked in on John Halo being a lunatic though they certainly haven't done anything to like direct him towards being more stable and chill but it it's really useful it's really useful to have John Halo just be an unhinged lunatic because you can essentially get him to do whatever you want and there will always be the justification of yeah he's an unstable guy he's unstable because of abstract inconsistent Science Fiction and Fantasy elements that we can just latch on to at any given moment to make them do whatever we want I I don't even know what they think they're achieving with whatever mystery they're trying to build up because how can anybody who doesn't know where this is going which I would say at this point they would have to accept that probably like 90% of people who are watching this show have some amount of familiarity with the games but imagine if you're a person who doesn't know anything and you're just taking it as his own thing if you're watching these first three episodes and all of the drama that they're building up around oh what's only up to why are they acting so mysterious is John Halo truly losing his sanity to the point that even his team is wondering what's going on with like Mackey in these visions and what's going on with Corporal Perez what about any of these elements as they've been presented in these first three episodes could lead you to conclude what is about to happen which is that reach is about to get invaded and that it all made sense in the end and I don't think as well that they've truly especially with the time taken captured um just how much of a tragedy it is that reach is about to be invaded the games are actually going to fill in for that almost like a lot of people watch this and be like oh no it's reach here we go and it's like yeah but you know you can't use the games to feel the meaning of this happening they were supposed to do it themselves the games ear that meaning for themselves if they want to rely on that then they need to actually adhere more to the game's narrative as well there's not the same characters there's not the same events different course of events yeah it's it's TV reach and game reach and I can tell the difference and so I have no emotional investment in the fate of TV reach I don't feel over these first three episodes that we have actually been building up that impending sense of dread properly they're sucking it out of the game while having deviated so much that that's just not possible in reach there's this constantly building sense of apprehension and Dread eventually culminating in the realization of oh this is this is a doomed fight it's over but none of that's present here yeah it feels like we have two and a half different TV shows all competing to exist simultaneously in the same single show there's the real show that they wanted to make that's the expanse ripoff there's the Halo show that they felt obligated to make and then there's the CGI Halo show that's they added after the fact to try and mitigate the criticism we got Master Chiefs armor and then we show Elites and we show plasma pistols and carbines and banshees and what hogs people see that and go yay I recognize that and then that lures them in to our show that we want to tell but I saw a Banshee fly around in live action even though it's just slightly different computer animation looking at Quan killing the Lost Girl I don't know what the [ __ ] is happening she like sheally weird one knife in her hand on the shot of her sitting in the place but then she runs at her and clearly does not stab her with her knife but the there's a stabbing motion and then she pushes the the knife into her neck and the girl just does nothing the whole time it's really odd no you wouldn't fight for your life if someone was trying to kill you you can't counter an assassination like she did what a kind of assassination is it when you perform it on the person who was behind you'll back like you hacking hacking cheating you're going to try and grab them and also depending on that might not even be lethal if it went like upward into the jaw yeah that's going to be really really [ __ ] painful the that she stabbed it with like a second knife but I didn't see any the reason why she didn't struggle is because the story is done with them theyve their purpose and now it's time to get rid of him and their purpose in the story was drama why wasn't she killed off screen to show how faran is's a killer Mega assassin now went to Assassin school and learned all of the stabbing tricks that's right she found an animus she beat the master chief dream module and now she's moved on to the Assassin cre full
