Alexia Yala versus Amanda Anisimova, is a blockbuster third round match up over in Cincinnati for 2026. Both players are really looking for some more wins on the hard courts before the US Open. The other end of the tournament is number 20 in the world with a 37 win 19 loss season so far this year. Her best result was winning Washington a couple weeks ago beating Pegula in the final. Her best win though came on the grass where she took out Rybakina in Berlin who was number two in the world at the time. Her worst loss is still that loss against Parks at the start of the year even though she did get a bit of redemption by beating Parks in Canada. So, still though her worst loss by ranking. Her form has been great obviously losing to Bencic in the fourth round of Canada and maybe running out of a bit of steam. She looked a little bit tired in that match. So, her form though still has been amazing since winning that match in Birmingham or that tournament in Birmingham and going on to win Washington as well. Anisimova entered the tournament as number 10 in the world with a 17 win 10 loss season so far. Her best result was actually making the semi-finals of Dubai where she ended up losing to Pegula in a close three setter. Her best win also came in Dubai where she took out Andreeva the number seven in the world at the time. Her worst loss was actually in Doha where she lost to Pliskova who was 418 in the world at the time. Her performance hasn't been too bad. She actually had a pretty good run up until the match against Svitolina in Canada and she ended up losing that one pretty pretty straightforward but she is starting to get back into the form and obviously has a lot of points to lose at the US Open in a couple weeks. These two have never played before which is no surprise. Yala is still trying to tick off a lot of the top 10 players not against players like Sabalenka and that kind of thing. So, she hasn't played Anisimova but it's going to be a banger because we do know how good Yala is against top 10 players. If Yala is going to win this one, she just needs to be patient and play the way she has been playing against these top 10 players. She also needs to sort of brace herself for some aggression from Anisimova because we know Anisimova hits a big serve. She can also hit a massive back end as well. If Anisimova is going to win this one, she needs to keep her cool. We do know she does sometimes get a little bit down on herself and a little bit annoyed at herself and we know that this crowd are going to be going for Yala even though it's in America. So, she's really got to keep her composure and use her ground strokes to win this match. Very interesting match up here and it's kind of feels like a little bit of what a preview for Rybakina versus like a Sabalenka would be. I know a lot of people want to see that one.
