All right, so we've just seen Yala get
through a very tough three-step battle,
a very grueling physical battle against
McN. It was a very interesting matchup
though. Let's go have a look what
happened. All right, so you can see
there 32 winners, 39 errors from Yala,
29 winners, and 34 errors from McN. So
very close in the stat sheet. A lot of
double faults from McN, a couple of
double faults for Yala as well. There
was a lot of breaks to serve as well.
They were breaking each other back and
forth a lot of that match as well, but
Yala held on a little bit longer and
even the serving stats, look how close
they were. Yala was, you know, 56% of
first serve points one, 50% of second
serve and Yala pretty, sorry, McNell
pretty similar as well. But let's go
have a look at what happened to this
match cuz Yala got off to a bit of a
shaky start. All right, so you can see
there first game of the match, Yala got
broken. McNell goes up one love, but
then Yala broke straight back. McN
breaks again. So it was a little bit of
a a sloppy start on serve for both. And
then McN ends up going up 3-1 and kind
of establishing herself a little bit,
but then Yala gets a break back and
levels at 3. And that's when the
momentum shift happens. And we know that
when Yala's got momentum, it's very
dangerous to stop her and very hard to
stop her. But Yala gets a break, gets a
5-3, and then ends up winning the set
6-3. Then the second set, McNell, she
ends up serving first. She holds serve,
but then Yala gets the early break to go
up 2-1. McNell ends up breaking back.
Then Yala breaks straight back, but then
again, McNell gets the break. So, a lot
of breaks there in the middle there.
Both were holding serve for a while, but
then at 4 alla gets the break, serves to
the match. McN breaks straight back then
holds her own serve and then she breaks
to love to take the second set 75. So
the momentum back with McNal set Yala
gets a break straight away to start the
final set and start to lead the final
set. Hold serve then McN gets on the
board. A little bit of a chance here for
McNell to get back on serve but Yala
holds strong. No break points though.
And again at 3-2 another opportunity for
McNell to maybe get a break point.
Couldn't get it at 30 all or deuce.
Mcnell then had to save break points.
Yella trying to get that double break
and really, you know, send this home,
but McNell holds. Then Yala holds to go
to 4-3 or sorry, four 5-3 and stay in
front. McNell ends up holding, making
Yala serve the match and Yala serves the
match, gets him on match point and she
gets it on her first match point. So
really the first game of the final set
was the difference. Yala gets a break
and McNell just couldn't get it back.
Yala just held on to that break until
the very end and gets the win in three.
So there you have it. Very tough match
for Yella physically and you could tell,
you know, that it really was starting to
physically get to her, especially in at
the end because when she won the match
point, she really looked emotional after
that win. You know, obviously the crowd
are going crazy every time she wins a
point here. They were doing that in the
first match against Parks as well. She
also had a little bit of a an issue in
the second set where she kind of rolled
her ankle a little bit, got a medical
time out. She got tape on her ankle and
then she took the tape off straight away
like two games later. So, I don't know
how bad that's going to look. We'll keep
that over, you know, we'll track that
over the next few days whether or not
the ankle is going to be a problem when
she plays Benic in the fourth round. And
that's going to be a good match for her
because she won't be expected to win.
It'll be a bit more of a 50/50 clash.
She's been the very heavy favorite the
last two matches. And I don't know, it
feels like maybe that might be affecting
her a little bit being the overwhelming
favorite and the crowd and, you know,
everything else going on top of that.
You know, she's one of the most famous
players going into these tournaments.
you know, and some of the big names, you
know, that we're used to seeing,
Sabalanka and Rebecca, they're not
really getting as much attention so far.
So, it's got to be a lot for real, but
we'll see if she can handle it against
Benich. Can she beat Benic in the next
round? Because I think it's a good
matchup. She's played players like Benic
and beaten them before. And with this
crowd, it could be, you know, against
Benic and Benic might not like the crowd
and let that affect her. So, it didn't
affect McN
maybe will affect Benish. So, we'll see
how that goes in a couple days, but
there it is. Yo gets a win in a very
tough match.
