Dolly Parton fans invited to event celebrating her life and legacy
Watch on YouTubeVideo summary
To honor the profound impact of Dolly Parton on both country music and countless lives, Mountain Top Media is collaborating with the Mountain Girl Experience to host a special remembrance celebration. Organizers express great excitement about gathering as a community in Pikeville to celebrate her legacy, emphasizing that while concrete plans are still forming, the event will be centered around personal contributions from attendees. The core idea is to create a space where fans can come together to share what Dolly meant to them individually, fostering a sense of unity and shared appreciation within the town.
The celebration will heavily feature music, ensuring it feels authentic to Dolly's spirit without being merely a standard party. An open mic opportunity will be available for everyone to participate, with organizers like Robin Tillman and Chris Preston planning to perform songs themselves while encouraging as many others as possible to join in. To facilitate this, a registration link on the Mountain Top Media event page allows people to sign up for specific time slots or submit stories they wish to share. The goal is to ensure that every participant has ample opportunity to contribute their memories and musical tributes, making the event truly inclusive and reflective of her influence.
Personal stories from those influenced by Dolly highlight the deep emotional connection she forged with fans growing up in Appalachia. One speaker shared how Dolly was her first ever musical memory, recalling childhood days of recording herself singing on a small talk recorder and comparing her voice to Dolly's iconic style. Although she never met the superstar in person, which was a lifelong dream, Dolly provided a crucial vision and hope for what could be achieved, inspiring her career path even before becoming known as the "Queen." This personal testimony underscores how Dolly's influence extended far beyond music, offering inspiration and a sense of possibility to individuals from humble backgrounds.
The event is scheduled to take place this coming Tuesday at 5:00 p.m. at the Mountain Top Media Stage in downtown Pikeville, inviting all fans to join the gathering. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own songs or stories to share during the open mic session, ensuring that the celebration remains a true tribute to her life and work. By combining music, storytelling, and community gathering, the event aims to pay proper respect to a woman who changed lives while providing a welcoming environment for those who cherish her memory.

To honor the life and legacy of a woman
who changed not just country music, but
people's lives as well, Mountain Top
Media is teaming up with the Mountain
Girl experience to host a Dolly Parton
remembrance celebration.
>> We're really excited as the Mountain
Girl experience to partner with Mountain
Top Media to just have a celebration of
life for Dolly. So, looking forward to
gathering as a community. No real
concrete plans other than you can bring
a song, bring a story, share what she's
meant to you. And just a place for us to
gather and be together in a town like
this.
>> Of course, it wouldn't be a Dolly Parton
party without music.
>> So, we'll have an open mic opportunity
for everyone. I'm sure I'll do a song or
two.
And then my co-organizer Chris Preston,
I'm sure she will, too. But we want to
encourage as many people as we can. We
actually have a link on the Mountain Top
Media event page where people can go and
sign up for a time or a song for the
open mic. So, we would love to see that
filled up. And if you just want to tell
a story, you can make a note on there,
too. We want to make sure everyone gets
as much time as possible to share and
contribute.
>> At Audiology Associates of Prestonsburg,
you can live your life the way you want
and find the freedom of better hearing.

care industry, you'll experience patient
care that is specific to you with

your hearing and balance needs are being
met. Audiology Associates at 1428 North
Lake Drive in Prestonsburg.
>> Smallwood shared how Dolly Parton
influenced her musical career.
>> I don't have a story where I got to meet
Dolly, which was my lifelong dream, but
my first ever musical memory is Dolly.
So, when I was a little girl, I had a
little talk recorder.
And I would just go around the house
singing why'd you come in here looking
like that all the time. So, I would
record it and then I would listen back
and be like, that's not quite Dolly. And
I would record it and then I would
listen back and I would take it to my
mom and be like, does that sound good,
you know? And just my whole childhood
and memories was is just her.
And she really gave me a hope and vision
for what I could be, you know, coming
out of the heels of Appalachia. Now
she's the queen of everybody. So, yeah,
Dolly's been important to me musically,
but also just personally, too.
>> So, join us this coming Tuesday at 5:00
p.m. at the Mountain Top Media Stage in
downtown Pikeville. Reporting for
Mountain Top News, I'm Robin Tillman.
