Video summary

The video explores the profound Islamic name *Al-Samad*, which signifies Allah as the Eternal, Absolute One who is sought by all creation in times of need. The speaker explains that this name encompasses complete perfection, mastery, and subjugation, meaning that Allah possesses every noble attribute without flaw or deficiency. Unlike human leaders or tribal chiefs whom people might address with titles implying authority, such a title belongs exclusively to Allah because He alone is perfect in His knowledge, wisdom, power, and forbearance. The discussion highlights that while humans may use similar words for their own qualities, attributing *Al-Samad* to anyone else is incorrect because no other being possesses this level of perfection or self-sufficiency. A central theme of the explanation is the concept of Allah as the ultimate refuge and the one who does not need anything from His creation, whereas all creatures are in desperate need of Him. The speaker uses the famous saying that "there are no atheists on a sinking ship" to illustrate how every single person turns to Allah for help, worship, and answers to their prayers when facing difficult situations. This dynamic creates a relationship where humans feel humbled and poor before Allah, recognizing that He is free from all needs while they rely entirely on Him. The video emphasizes that this realization should lead believers to turn to Allah with fear and hope, acknowledging that He is the only source of safety, provision, and authority on earth. Scholars like Ibn Abbas are cited to show that *Al-Samad* acts as a comprehensive name that contains the meanings of many other divine attributes, such as perfection in mercy, generosity, and nobility. The linguistic roots of the word suggest gathering everything together and being sought out by all, reinforcing the idea that Allah is the pinnacle of mastery with no one above Him. Various historical interpretations are presented, including views that He does not eat, drink, or reproduce, and that nothing escapes His knowledge or control. The speaker notes that all these different explanations are true aspects of Allah's nature, and they collectively describe a Lord who remains after all creation has passed away, serving as the eternal destination for every human need. Ultimately, understanding the meaning of *Al-Samad* is meant to transform a believer's heart and actions by fostering gratitude, humility, and complete reliance on God. When individuals realize that Allah does not need their worship but rather needs nothing while they need everything from Him, it deepens their sense of poverty before Him and strengthens their resolve to seek only His help. The video concludes by urging listeners to implement this understanding in their daily lives, ensuring that their prayers, worship, and hopes are directed solely toward the One who is perfect in every way and the only true refuge for all creation.

It is al the great master. He is the one that everyone seeks him out. You know, like they say the famous statement, there's no atheists on a sinking ship. Everyone knows that the only one that can answer their dua in a time of desperate need is Allah. Every single one seeks Allah subhana tala. So when they need something, who are they going to ask? When they're in a desperate situation, where are they going to seek refuge? When they worship, who are they going to worship? When they have, who is their going to be upon [singing] a smile? We now come to the name of Allah chapter when it comes to the names which is the he says This name came in say that Allahaw is one. Allah is Allah is and this came in the surah that the prophet sallallah.aii alaihi wasallam told us is equal to a third of the Quran inkoolah. Abu narrates that the prophet sallallah.aihi wasallam said to his companions, "Would one of you be unable to read a third of the Quran every night or during a night? Would one of you find yourself do you think you could do it or you would find yourself not able to do it? They said it was very hard for them because the way he said it, it's like it's like you shouldn't find it hard and you shouldn't like is there anyone from you who can't read a third of the Quran every night? It was hard for them and they said which of us would be able to read a third of the Quran every night or messenger of Allah. He said Allah is a third of the Quran and that is another way of expressing Allah. So notice here al the prophet explains it as so that's also a benefit that there's a similarity and an overlap in the sense that the prophet uses for is a third of the Quran the he says It is the great master. And remember from the word, we haven't come to it yet, but there are some key meanings that come out of the word. One is the meaning of alah subjugation because the one that you call you lower yourself before them and there's a in this that when the group of companions came to the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam what did they say to him and to say you are our say and the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam responded back that Allah is a did they say something wrong? They didn't. The prophet sallallaihi wasallam said I am the master of the children of Adam without any pride. Why did he then say to them don't say that I am say don't call me say it. Call me with what you're going to call me. say what you're going to say or some of what you're going to say. This is in order the the the scholars they say in order to protected because is Allah subhana tala and people when they start calling like people giving people that high that high standard it's easy for someone from there to raise someone up above the station that they deserve. So it's like he's saying be careful because he said at the end of the hadithan don't let he said uh uh he said don't let make you carried away. Don't let shan get make you get carried away with what you say. So he slowed them down. be careful because comp complete humility and subjugation and loneliness that's one of the meanings from the meanings you get is obedience because a is the one that you obey and if you have the chief of your tribe or the head of your whatever it is any that means you have to obey them and also from the meanings is the one who has control of everything. So the great the grand master of everything is Allah. Complete submission, complete subjugation, complete control, complete obedience. And Allah is perfect in his knowledge, perfect in his hikma, perfect in his helm, his forbearance, perfect in his power, perfect in his might, perfect in his grandeur, perfect in all of his attributes. So one of the key meanings of is the meaning of alamal perfection in every single way. So one is a meaning of mastery and we also have a meaning of perfection in every single way. I'm going to read you some of the quotes that the sheh brings because there are some very very very beneficial quotes that he brings in the different views that the people mention for what means. The he says, he says, "Even even the great scholar of in his narrates from Abdullahb, may Allah be pleased with him and his father that he said is a that is perfect in his mastery and his subjugation, his command, his control, he's perfect in it, a he is a shar that is perfect in his honor. in Sharif the the noble or the honorable the noble let's say he's the noble that his nobility is perfect he is the great one who is complete in his greatness ale He is the forebearing, the one who doesn't rush to take to punish people for what they've done wrong. And he's perfect in his helm. He is he is the one who is the rich, free of all need. He's perfect in being free of need of anything. He is alab. And from the meaning of alabar, it comes with the meaning of he's a subjugator. And it comes with the meaning of uh making up for the the flaws that exist in his creation. And it comes with like when we say like if you have a flaw or a deficiency and you make up for that deficiency and you so jabar comes with that meaning and it also comes with the meaning of it comes with the meaning of pride and mastery and supremacy and Allah is perfect in that. The one who is knowledgeable of everything and his knowledge is perfect. He is who is perfect in his wisdom. And it's like he summarizes it here. He is the one who is perfect in every type of honor. Every type of nobility, every type of mastery, he's perfect in it. He is Allah the exalted. This is Allah's description and you cannot say it about anyone else. So from the of this is first of all that this is the of Abbas. So no doubt when Abbas tells you what a name means you need to listen to it. You can't after that just look at what no other little things Abbas told you what the name means. The one who is complete in every aspect of honor and nobility and mastery. That is what the meaning of the name is. and he says you can't use this name for anyone else. There's two reasons you you can say that that is mentioned. The first is obviously that some of Allah's names you can use them without not in the way that is meant for Allah but you can use the actual the the actual word itself for creation. For example, uh you can say so and so is merciful. You can say so and so is kind because allahel said the prophet sallallaihi wasallam is described as for that is Allah that is Allah but a person but as for you cannot give this name to anyone you cannot not say and this is from the mistake some people make when they have a brother called Abdul and they shorten it and call him this is not permissible ever and this is a type of even if it is not intended maybe it's and the person doesn't intend it like that they didn't mean it but in reality you cannot attach that name to anyone except Allah Not with or without like said this attribute of Allah only for Allah. You cannot say it's an attribute of anyone else. You cannot say that this person has that aspect of being. No, not even if you set an aspect of it because it's something that's only for Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala. The other reason that Abdahb Abbas mentions this is the Arabs used to call and say the the head of all their people. They used to address him with sad. They used to address the chief of their tribe with any or the senior of all of them. They used to address them with summed. So it's like Abbas is saying you've got to leave this culture. If you had a culture of calling your chief sad, you have to leave it because it's only for Allah subhana tala. Also from the benefits of what Abbas said here that you can take is that this name is a name that is like the said it's from the names that comes with many different meanings In fact, all of Allah's names can be uh brought within it because you can say it is al right perfection. So for example, take any of Allah's names. Take for example then the meaning of the one who is perfect in his extreme kindness and mercy to people. So all of the names of Allah are found within this. It's like in all of the meanings can be found especially the meanings that are focused upon honor and nobility. So here look how Abbas what does he mention? He mentions he mentions alimi alab he says or alim alim he mentioned at least seven names of Allah at least seven names of Allahbn Abbas mentions are fall within this name and in reality all of them because it's a name that indicates al perfection Therefore, this is also if you are keeping a list of the names that could be Allah's greatest name as a group and if we say that Allah's greatest name is Jumla or is Jins that it's a group of names then this is also deserving of being included with them and that's why it came in some of the hadith about Allah's greatest name and the prophet sallallaihi wasallam said that he is called Allah by his greatest name. So this is one of the names that it has a possibility to be included in that third category not by itself. No one said this name by itself like it's not a name on its own like this name and no other name. But if you're saying Allah als these names that have all of the meanings of Allah's names can be brought into them or many many if not all many meanings of Allah's names can be brought back to them then uh if you take that view which we said is a is one of the three strong views then this name is also a name that deserves to be included in that category. He said to send me a he says is a that is complete in his mastery. For this reason, the Arabs used to name their nobility with this name. We said that, right? Why Abbas is telling them? Because the Arabs used to name their nobility with this name. Why? Because it basically gathers all of praiseworthy attributes. All praiseworthy attributes can be brought back to and put within the meaning of likewise from the benefits that we can take uh from this chapter is that our hearts should turn to Allah in in fear and in hope. And that's because as the sheh said here, so he's using the verb and this verb what it means is he sought him out. So one of the meanings of is the one who is sought out by all creation. All creation seeks him in their dua. They seek to ask him. They seek from him and he doesn't seek from anyone. So this is one of the meanings of that's why in the English translation I quite like the name they give. They said the self-sufficient master because comes with two things. It comes with mastery and perfection. But it also comes with the meaning of the ones that the hearts and the people in their dua they ask from him. They seek him out in their worship and he doesn't need them but they are desperately in need of him. There's also another quote of Abbas if you wanted to add to it a variation of it where he said he is al he mentioned the same one he mentioned he mentioned he mentioned the one that has the ability to do everything with perfect ability he mentioned mentioned alim then he said the most merciful the bestow of mercy whose mercy is perfect he is al jawad whose jud whose generosity is perfect so notice there's no limit it's not those seven names and you can keep going and going and going Abbas is giving you examples And the he said he means here may said He says the linguistic meaning of the name indicates this because comes from two linguistic meanings. It comes from the meaning of gathering everything together. That's why we said perfection and completeness and it comes with the meaning of seeking something out. So he said he said he is the one that everyone seeks him out. Everyone if you you know like they say the famous statement there's no atheists on a sinking ship right? Everyone knows that the only one that can answer their dua in a time of desperate need is Allah. Every single one seeks Allah subhana tala and his attributes are all of his attributes are perfect. So one meaning is that he's self-sufficient. He doesn't need anyone but we need him. And the other meaning is the one that has gathered all of the perfect names and attributes. The gave he said he said for this reason that's why the had so many different explanations of this name. You find Abbas he talks about alimani ale all so many different but individual people from the salah each of them have different explanations when you go through all of these different explanations uh and you can find uh them in this book and also brings them in his uh that as the he says everything they said about the meaning of is true. So I'll just zoom through because just to save a little bit of time. So we so we have uh for example the ones who said he is the one that is not hollow. He does not eat or drink. That's what they mean by that. Because they use the word uh the word as the sheh speaks about later on. They use it for also. Uh so they said the one that doesn't eat and drink any doesn't eat doesn't drink doesn't need food doesn't need anything. That's one thing that they brought. They said the one that all creation turns to him for their needs and they're asking. Some of them said the one that nothing comes out of him. That's the same meaning as the meaning that we spoke about earlier. The one that nothing comes out of him. And some of them said that meaning that he had no child and he had there is no child that has come from him that there is no need for these the you know the human things that pass out from you. you go to the bathroom and all of that. None of that is true about Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala. Some of them said he's a the one that is at the pinnacle of mastery. Some of them said there's no one above him. Jar brings all of these views and also brings many of them. All of it is true. And that's why uh Ib narrates from uh after mentioning a number of these names in the meaning of He said, "All of the things that you've heard are true. They are all the attributes of our Lord. He is the one that we go to for all of our needs. He is the one that is at the pinnacle of perfection in his mastery. He is a that has no jo and he doesn't eat, doesn't drink, doesn't you know have children and he is the one who remains after all of his creation have passed away and a similar narration is narrated from the sheh also brings it and similarly also from Muhammad which is another statement of his which is also brings a similar affirming that all of these meanings are true for Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala. So now the gives us a last paragraph. Subhan, he says, and I'll bring the translation cuz it's a little tough to translate this one. The she says in this last uh paragraph that when the servant knows that his lord possesses such perfection and majesty that there's nothing above him exalted as he in his perfection. Nothing can escape him. That he exalted in his perfection is the recourse of creation at their times of fear and their refuge. Such that there is no refuge and no place of safety except in turning to him. That to him alone is the place of escape. That he alone is the one that the creation turns to for their needs, requests, and hopes. Then what do we have to do as a result of all of that? It's obligatory for him that he only turns to Allah and he only asks his needs of Allah and he doesn't and he only makes worship for and his seeking of help should only be from him. And his should only be upon Allah. And then he quotes the ayah. He says, "Who the ayah, who is it who answers the one in desperate need when they call upon them? And who is it who saves you or who removes for you evil? And who is it who makes you inheritors with authority on the earth? Is there any god besides Allah? How little do you remember? And so really if you think about this the idea that Allahel we are all in desperate need of him and he doesn't need us. So a person feels grateful for Allah's guidance because we know that Allah doesn't need me to worship him. And a person feels humbled because if Allah is what are you al gives you in before Allah subhana tala you feel broken before Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala because you realize that Allah is say he doesn't need you in anything and he is the master of everything you can't escape him in anything so you feel humbled you feel weak you feel poor You people are the ones who are poor in need of Allah. Allah is ali the one who is free of all need. Alhammed worthy of all praise. So these meanings come into the person's mind. So when they need something, who are they going to ask? When they're in a desperate situation, where are they going to seek refuge? When they worship, who are they going to worship? When they have who is their going to be upon. So these are part of the things that we have to implement when we think about this great name of Allahawel.
