Video summary
In this engaging DIY tutorial, jewelry artist Haley Crespo guides beginners through the process of creating custom epoxy resin hair clips, a project she describes as both fun and highly customizable. The video begins with a crucial yet often overlooked preparation step: giving the resin bottles a warm bath before mixing. By placing the bottles in a bowl of warm water, the resin becomes more fluid, which significantly reduces air bubbles during stirring and makes the pouring process much smoother. Haley emphasizes that this simple trick is essential for achieving a professional finish, especially when working with intricate designs like fruit slices or glitter.
Once the resin is prepared, the focus shifts to creative design within three-part molds that allow for batch production. Haley demonstrates how to arrange various elements such as polymer clay fruit slices, dried flowers, and iridescent glitters before mixing the resin, noting that the mixed material only has a thirty-minute working time. She advises viewers to plan their layout carefully, ensuring designs are not too crowded to prevent trapped air bubbles and to allow for easy removal later. Throughout this stage, she encourages experimentation with different combinations, such as adding gold flakes to strawberry slices or mixing pink glitter directly into the resin for a sparkling effect, highlighting that there are no mistakes in resin art until it cures.
After pouring the mixed resin into the molds and allowing it to cure for twenty-four hours, the most satisfying part of the process begins: demolding. Haley carefully removes the hardened clips from their silicone molds, revealing beautiful, bubble-free results with vibrant colors and embedded decorations. She notes that while some excess resin or glitter might stick to the edges, these can be easily cleaned up with scissors if necessary. The final step involves attaching metal backings using B7000 glue, a clear adhesive she recommends for its strength and ability to dry invisible, ensuring the clips are secure and ready to wear without any visible glue lines.
The video concludes with Haley showcasing the finished hair clips, which she calls her "little clip family," expressing how much joy making them has brought her over the years. She encourages viewers to try the project themselves to add a touch of sparkle to their outfits and hairstyles. By following these steps—warming the resin, planning designs within molds, pouring with care, and finishing with clear glue—beginners can successfully create unique, colorful accessories that spark happiness. Haley invites her audience to like, subscribe, and comment for more tutorials, ending on a warm note of gratitude for watching.

Hi, my [music] name is Haley Crespo and
I am a jeweler, small business owner,
and resin artist. Today I'm here with
Art Resin and I'm going to teach you
guys how to make some hair clips. These
are my absolute favorite thing to make
with resin. They're so fun, so
customizable. I have all my supplies
with me and I'm going to teach you every
step of the [music] way. So if you're
ready, I'm ready, and let's jump right
to it.
So the first step of making resin hair
clips is actually to give your resin a
warm bath. I know it sounds weird, but
this is actually the best tip that I've
ever received. Basically warming up the
resin is going to make it way easier to
work with. It eliminates the bubbles
when you're stirring them together and
also just makes it way easier to work
with when you're pouring. So basically
how I do this is boiling water in a
kettle and letting it cool down. Then
you're going to pour the water into a
bowl just like this. Place the resin
bottles into the water and let them hang
out for a little bit.
So as my resin is chilling in its bath,
I'm going to actually start placing my
designs down.
Um these are resin hair clip molds and
you can get them at your local craft
store or even online. And what I really
love about these guys is that they come
in threes. So you can make multiple
clips at once. This is a big time saver
when it comes to resin. Um so that's why
I really love these molds. And basically
this is where it gets really fun. I have
so many different glitter um and
customizable things that you can use. I
think today I'm probably feeling some
fruit clips cuz these are one of my
favorite things to make. Um so I'm going
to make a few of those and maybe I'm
going to make some
uh pink glitter molds as well. But
really this is how you can have fun with
it.
Um so let's get creative.
Okay, so I'm going to start with the
tutti frutti slices.
Uh some people do this with tweezers. I
just kind of go in with my hands. I just
find it's a little more fun and
entertaining.
Um but I'm going to put a nice
thin slice of [music] these down. I
don't like to fill it up completely just
because when I pour the resin on it,
sometimes there's air bubbles that get
trapped. So you can always add more
um when the resin cuts in. Um but that
is just what I'm doing. I also always
find that it's easier to put the
um designs in the molds before you mix
the resin. Just remember the resin when
you mix the two parts, the hardener and
the resin together, you only have a
30-minute working time. So you really
want to make sure you're organized and
you have all of the designs ready. So
take the time now to have something that
you're really um happy with and then
when you mix the resin, all you have to
do is worry about pouring. So I'm just
going to keep on going here and laying
these out, making sure that I have a
good variety of little slices and
they are already looking so cute. I'm so
excited to see their final form.
Okay, cool. So these ones are all done.
I'm going to put these over here. My
next favorite ones and also one of my
best sellers of my clips are actually my
um strawberry ones. So I'm going to do
that I I'm going to do that now.
Um as you can tell, I don't really like
fruit. So I try to add them into all of
[music] the pieces that I make. So these
ones are just polymer clay slices as
well and I'm going to place [music] them
a little more strategically at than the
other ones. Just making sure that you
have enough variety, change up the
direction
and that they're not overlapping on one
or the other. So I'm going to put these
in. These ones are actually fun because
I'm going to add some gold flakes after,
but I tend to do the gold flakes when
the resin is in just to really [music]
stick them down. So the first part is to
add the little strawberries and then
after um I'm going to add the little
gold flakes in it. So just [music] being
aware of uh the spacing of it and
where the gold flakes are going to go,
but these are also super fun to make. So
let's get going.
Place them down.
Really
think about where you want to place it,
where the gold flakes are going to go,
all of those things.
Perfect. This is looking good.
They're all evenly spaced,
>> [music]
>> but not too perfect.
Um and let's move on to the next one.
Okay, cool. So I think for the last one
I'm going to go for a pink vibe. So I
really love these um
I really love these glitter pieces and I
love how shiny and iridescent these are.
So I'm going to use these and then I
think we're going to put even more pink
on top of that cuz you can never have
enough. So let's start placing these
ones as well.
I just want to have a nice little
variety.
But also just have the freedom to have
fun. This is your hair clips. You can do
whatever you want.
And there are no mistakes in resin.
Let's do a little [music] pink flower
there. What else do we have over here?
Yeah, I'm really obsessed with how shiny
and iridescent [music]
these are. I think they're going to be
really nice
in the final product.
Uh
like there.
There we go.
And really at this stage is when you
want to take your most take the most
time um designing when you don't have
the resin
clock ticking. So really be sure that
you're thinking through where you're
placing everything, if you're happy with
it because it gets a little trickier um
when the resin gets poured.
Okay.
Let's see.
Let's get rid of you.
I'm going to put you there.
One more for good luck. Why not?
Oh yeah. Let me get this flower. [music]
Uh
oh.
Perfect.
Okay, cool. These ones are looking good.
Um
Honestly looking over here, I think I'm
going to move some out just cuz I want
to make sure that they're all um have
some breathing room. So I'm going to
just take some of these guys out
just so that I can see all of them.
>> [music]
>> And that's the beauty of this stage is
you can really
go, place them down, do something else,
come back with some fresh eyes and
really
kind of tinker until you're happy with
the final result. So I think this is
looking a little bit better. Again, it's
also good not to make them too crowded
because air bubbles do tend to
um come. So it's nicer to have a [music]
thin layer.
And
Okay, I think that is looking
good.
Okay, so
I think this is all looking really good.
I'm really happy with it. So let's move
on to the resin and start some pouring.
Okay, so my resin is sufficiently warm
and I think we are ready to go. So I'm
going to take them out
and dry them off. One thing to note
about these uh when you're doing the
bath is you want to make sure that
there's no chance of water getting in
these bottles because honestly like one
drop of water can really ruin them and I
don't want that for you. Um so just make
sure that you're closing the lids tight
and not even submerging them in the
water, just letting them sit. So after I
take them out, I'm just going to give
them a little
dry
and then we will be ready to
go. Okay, perfect. These ones are all
good.
Put that over there. Okay, I'm putting
these there. And I'm going to use these
silicone measuring cups. I really like
them because they're you're able to
squeeze them um and that just gives you
a lot more control when you are pouring.
Um and they're also really good for
cleanup because when the resin cures
inside, you can just flip them inside
out and peel the resin off. Um but yeah,
I think we're ready to pour. Obviously
don't forget about gloves, too. Resin is
messy, so you want to make sure you're
protecting your hands.
And let's get going. I like to do the
pour the resin first. So let's unscrew
that and I'm going to do about
hm I'm going to do about
10
ml of resin and then 10 ml of hardener.
So you're always going to do that
one-to-one ratio. So let's give it a
little pour.
Make sure you go slowly because you can
always add and you can never take
[laughter]
it out.
Just a little more.
Just one more. Okay, that looks good.
Perfect. And I'm just going to close
this right away just to always make sure
your station is clean.
Next is the hardener.
Now that I'm looking at this, I think
that's not enough resin. So I think I'm
going to do 20
20 ml of resin and then 20 ml of
hardener.
Um
yeah, al- always when you're doing this,
you want to make sure you're
guessing and checking, uh but I think
it's always better to have a little bit
more resin extra than to not have
enough. So, let's just pour this up to
the 20.
Nice.
That was a good pour. I had to do say so
myself. And now let's get to the
hardener.
And
right
about
there. Perfect. Okay.
Let's close these up and get them out of
the way.
And now you're going to take a stir
stick and mix this up for about 3 to 5
minutes. You don't want to mix it too
fast cuz you don't want to introduce
um any air bubbles. So, I'm going to mix
this up and
I will see [music] you when it's ready.
So, I've mixed this for about 5 minutes
and it's looking really, really good.
So, now I think it's time to pour. So,
I'm going to pull
I'm going to pull this out, place it on
the side.
All right, now we're ready to go.
So, when you're pouring the resin, you
just want to go really, really slowly
and [music]
make sure that the pour is controlled.
And you're just trying to get it over
all of those slices,
nice and easy.
And that looks good.
And for this guy, I can just leave them.
They're all done. I'm going to put them
to the side
>> [music]
>> and start with my strawberries.
So, again, I'm just going to pour nice
and slowly
making sure I'm covering all of the
slices and making [music] sure that the
resin is touching all edges of the mold.
Nice.
And I'll add one more.
Okay, perfect. These are looking great.
And to add a little more sparkle to
these, I'm actually going to use some
gold flakes. These are super fun um to
use in resin because I just feel like
they really make the strawberries pop.
So, let's take these out. And the nice
thing about these things is that they
last you forever. So, once you get a bag
of gold flakes, I'm
I've think I forgot this like a few
years ago and I haven't had to use
another one since. So, that's always
nice, too. So, let [music] me pop some
of these out.
Place them in.
Nice.
And
really, you're just going to
>> [music]
>> get them in areas
>> [snorts]
>> that you think would be nice, kind of
balancing out
the strawberries.
You just c-
need to loosely place them for now and
then we can
um give them their final resting place
after.
I like to do a few.
And
add a few little
small ones in there.
Okay, perfect. These look good. So, I'm
going to place them over here. And now
I'm just going to go with my popsicle
stick and kind of like shove them into
the resin
and incorporate them.
Really, this part is all about going
with the flow. So,
there is no wrong placement.
I think [music] we are all good to go.
So, I'm going to leave that there. I
think that one is ready to set. And
let's move on to our last one. Okay, so
now that I've done these two, uh I'm
going to take the remaining resin and
add them to my final mold. But for this
one, I'm actually going to do something
fun and actually put the glitter right
into the resin and stir it up. This will
just make sure that it's dispersed
really nicely and it'll add just another
element to our final pink clip. So, I'm
just going to take it and sprinkle some
pink in there.
That looks pretty good.
Mix it up.
And see what we're working with.
Honestly, we could do a little more.
Let's do a little more.
Oh, perfect.
And this is looking great. Okay, so I'm
mixing the final bit up. And then we're
just going to do what we did
>> [music]
>> with the rest of the clips and pour it
in.
So.
And
I think that is all of them. Great. So,
now we have three different designs for
our resin clips.
And really, the next step is just to
wait for 24 hours for them to cure. So,
let's come back tomorrow and see what we
got.
Amazing. So, it's been 24 hours and now
we are able to demold the hair clips.
And this is one of the most sa- I say
this all the time cuz it's all
satisfying, but I swear this is the most
satisfying part of this whole process
cuz you can really see what they look
like. So, let's start demolding.
Ah, I'm nervous, but excited. Okay, so
this is the first ones. These are tutti
frutti's. I'm going to start
and
demold.
Oh my god. Okay, yeah. No, they look
amazing. They are so beautiful and it
you can see all of our beautiful polymer
clay slices looking so cute. And
honestly, the there's not any bubbles
that I can see. Like I really think that
these turned out really, really good.
So, this is number one.
And number two.
Oh my gosh, it looks so good. Okay. Yes,
this is also amazing.
And take a look
at our work and [music]
number three.
Perfect. Okay, yeah. These turned out so
good. I love all of them. Let me take
Let me [music] show you all of them.
I think they're amazing and I can't wait
to turn them into hair clips. So, let's
keep on demolding and
let's see what else we have in store.
So, one, two, and three.
Okay, the next ones is our strawberries
with gold flakes. And these also look
really good. What you really want to
look for when you're demolding is that
the backing is flat. So, these feel
really good, super level.
And let's let's let's take a look.
Number one.
Oh my god. Yeah, okay. So, this is
really good. I love her.
Number two.
Ah, so satisfying. Okay.
Wow. And this is also going to look
really good uh with the gold findings on
the back. So, I'm really excited to
really make them come [music] all
together.
And number three.
Perfect. Perfect. They are just
perfection.
I love them. Let's see them all as a
little family together.
And I really love that you can kind of
group them into threes and then you have
a little set
>> [music]
>> that you can wear.
I think they're great. Okay.
One, two, and three. Now let's do our
final demolding.
Okay, these are our pinky pies as I like
to call them.
Oh, perfect. Okay. And what I really
like about this is that the little
sparkles that we added really came down
to the bottom so that they're super
clear. But that pink sparkle that we
added at the end really, really makes
them pop. So, that's number one.
Number two.
Oh, perfect. Oh, yeah.
Yeah. I love Just take a look at how
that sparkles.
Number two.
And
number three. They even look better from
the when you pop them out because
they're so smooth on the surface.
These are so good. So, the only thing
that I would say is sometimes when the
glitter gets
um when the glitter is popping out like
this, basically you can just like pick
it off or if you have a pair of scissors
and you want to cut off any of the
excess resin that you might have had,
you can just take scissors and clean up
the edges.
Just like that. I don't really have
anything because I'm pretty good at
this, but when I first started, it was a
mess, so I had to take the scissors and
really clean them all up, but either one
is fine. That's what your tools are
there for, so let's see. One,
two and three, our little clip family. I
love how they turned out. They're so
colorful. They spark so much joy. Now we
have to just finish them and glue the
backings onto them, so final step,
you're almost there. Let's let's get
gluing.
Okay, so perfect. Now this is just our
finishing touches and we have to glue
the backings onto the hair clips, so I
have them over here. I'm just going to
lay out the ones that I need, so three
skinny,
three triangles,
and
three rectangles.
All right, perfect.
So I'm actually going to use the B7000
glue. I went through so much testing
when it came to what glue to use and I
find that this one is the best. Not only
is it super strong, but it also dries
clear, so when we have designs like this
one or here and you don't want to see
like the bubbles of the glue, then this
is definitely the one that I would
recommend. You can get it on Amazon,
probably your hardware store or
anywhere,
um, but I definitely recommend this guy,
especially get the crystal clear glue.
Perfect, so let's get gluing.
Let me unscrew this. Another thing that
I like really like about this glue is
that they have a little nozzle at the
end and that just makes it really easy
to lay out the glue where you want it to
go. So let's get started. I'm going to
put down a pretty
generous amount of glue, just [music]
making sure it's nice and neat.
And that should be good. Then I'm just
going to place it right on the backing,
making sure that it is straight.
And then I'm just going to not touch it
from there. So let's keep on going.
Just some glue.
Nice.
And right on the
clip.
Okay.
And
right on
there.
Perfect, they are coming together really
nicely.
Okay, let's do the rectangles next.
So I usually put it on the finding
instead of the resin,
um, just because sometimes I'm not sure
what the positioning is of the clip and
you don't want to kind of have extra
glue, so it's just better to put the
glue right on the finding and then
wherever you want the finding to go,
that's where the glue will be. So I
always like to do it on the finding
instead of trying to guess the
dimensions of the
of the
finding.
So right on here.
And just make sure you press down
slightly, but otherwise it usually just
does its thing.
Nice.
Right on here.
All right.
Perfect, last three. We're almost there,
people.
Okay, I like to put a lot of glue on
this side cuz this is where it tends to
pop up a little bit.
And a little more right on the edge.
Okay, nice. And if the glue does tend to
spurt out, it doesn't matter because
this glue does dry clear, so it's also a
nice little fail-safe for you.
And
perfect.
Ah, okay. Last one.
Oh my gosh, it's been a journey.
But we are finally
here. Okay, perfect. So once the glue is
set, I would let it dry for a few hours,
um, just to make sure it's nice and dry,
especially before you put it in your
hair. That is just a recipe for
disaster. So make sure it's super dry,
but leave them be, let the glue do its
thing and yeah, let's see the final
reveal.
Okay, so the glue has finally dried and
now it's time to wear our hair clips. I
love how they turned out. It's so nice
to add just a little bit of sparkle and
glitter into your outfits and even just
to put your hair back. Oh, it is so
nice. I really really love them and I
hope that you love them, too. Making
these clips over the years has brought
me so much joy, so I really hope that it
brings you some joy, too. If you like
