The formidable robot.
Roblox has always been one of those
gaming platforms that experienced a
downward spiral since the late 2010s and
continues to do so in the 2020s. There
has been a multitude of drama and
incidents that surrounded this platform,
including accounts getting compromised
through Roblox scam games. Popular and
well-known games such as Meep City
getting hacked by trolls and redirecting
players to different games, a festering
rabbit hole where kids were virtually
exploited by low-life scum called
condos. News reports of actual
kidnappings happening across America and
various other countries and in rare and
extremely tragic cases ever. real life
deaths being caused among a few innocent
players. The game has been changing as
well as adding new features, some of
which are beneficial and enhance the
experience, while others are deemed
hated and unnecessary. As a kid, I've
been playing Roblox since approximately
2012 and 2013 when I created my first
account, which I still use to this day.
The first ever games I played were
Natural Disaster Survival and Catalog
Heaven. And then I got into new games
that dropped in the mid to late 2010s,
which were Epic Mini Games and Meep
City. One popular game I didn't get to
play was Welcome to Bloxburg by Popus, a
role- playinging and housebuilding
simulator with a cost of 25 Robux to
access. I hadn't had Robux on my account
for years until Christmas of 2019, the
period when I found a strange game that
appeared in my feed. It was December 4th
and I was browsing through Roblox in
search of a different game to play.
During my moments of boredom, my eyes
suddenly caught on an advertisement on
the game's page. It was sponsoring what
appeared to be a direct copy of
Bloxburg, yet it was somehow free to
play. It was called Welcome to Bloxburg
Free and its icon was nothing special,
just blatantly taken from the original
game with the image quality a bit off
and added plain yellow text saying free,
all capital letters with three
exclamation marks in the top left
corner. Curiosity began to urgently nag
in my thoughts to click on it. And so I
did, directing me to the game's page. It
had only one thumbnail being the welcome
to Bloxburg logo also taken from the
original game. The image quality was low
as well and the same free text was
plastered at the bottom. The game's
creator went by the name Bloxburg free_D
and it was created and updated around
December 3rd, 2019, which is about a day
ago. It had little to no visits,
favorites or active players. The like
and dislike ratio remains blank. It
accommodates a maximum of 15 players per
server. The genre label is set to all
genres and allowed gear is disabled.
Thanks to my old friend Curiosity, I
clicked the play button and my Roblox
client launched. Furthermore, the game
didn't direct me to a modified copy of
the actual Bloxburg game, nor to one of
those copypaste scam games that festered
on the website. I was spawned in the
middle of a completely different game
with R six being the only avatar rig
supported. And it was a small grassy
base plate filled with free models, many
of which had also been ripped from
Bloxburg. It had six or so houses,
trees, and red cars circling the area
with the Pizza Planet restaurant
situated in the center alongside Ben's
ice cream parlor. At the end of the
horribly structured neighborhood was an
adoption center, which was never part of
the original game. I was given one item,
a red stroller, and on the screen was
the magic morph menu, a classic GUI tool
where you customize your avatar and
morph into various characters. I chose
to free roam around the map. Nothing
appears to be run here whatsoever, just
a poorly made game that tries to
replicate the original concept of
Bloxburg, but ultimately falls short.
While I was about to leave the Pizza
Planet building, after around 15 minutes
of aimless exploration, I saw a figure
standing where my player spawned. It was
brown, tan, and blue. It appeared to be
a player yet. I don't see its name on
the leaderboard, so I guess it must be
an NPC that appeared randomly. Hell, it
didn't even have a name tag at all. Upon
taking a closer look, I realized there
was something very wrong with its
appearance. I think that this is meant
to represent Bloxburg's main character,
Tom, if that's indeed his name, except
he looks nothing like his avatar in the
original game. His model is unlike
anything I've ever seen on Roblox
before. His brown hair somewhat reminded
me of a troll doll. He had large
bloodshot eyes with brown red irises.
His opened, smiling, voided mouth
exposed, sharp kiss, yellow teeth. His
arms were thin and deformed with a
naturally bent fingers. His torso
appeared bloated and overweight and his
legs were changed to that classic blocky
look. The outfit he was wearing was a
blue greasy tank top and his trousers
shared the same color and gross texture.
On his left arm, he was missing a thumb
which exposed flesh and bone and it
appeared to be dripping crimson blood.
However, seeing this abomination of a
Roblox character sent a large chill down
my spine. A few seconds later, a speech
bubble appeared above the nameless
player's head, attempting to communicate
with my player. It simply stated two
words. Bloxburg.
Confused, I typed in a simple, "Hi."
Then Tom's grotesque doppelganger began
to reply. "Bloxburg is so cool." "Okay,
this guy might be out of his marbles for
all I know. Are you okay, dude?" I
typed. I like Bloxburg free, the thing
responded. Seriously, what are you even
on about? Hey, you is my friend.
I guess the freak of virtual nature
began to slowly raise his contorted
right arm before replying. Cool. Let's
be best friend forever.
The last part of the message from the
entity unexpectedly raised a huge red
flag. Not only did his unholy avatar
scare the out of me, but I was
acutely aware that I was in danger upon
encountering this creature. Confused and
terrified, I typed in, "What the hell,
dude? Stop freaking me out." No
response. Slowly, and I do mean slowly,
Tom is advancing closer to my player,
still with his deformed arm raised. Even
worse, my avatar is not responding to my
keyboard movements. Without any option
to get away from this monster, I quickly
exited the game. Thankfully, nothing bad
had ever happened after I left that
freak show of a Roblox game, and I
decided to move on and play one of my
favorite multiplayer games on the
platform at the time, all these basics
multiplayer. Around an hour after
finishing the game and heading back to
the homepage, I suddenly noticed that
the fake free version of Bloxburg had
changed its icon in my continue playing
feed. Instead of the lowquality edited
version of the original Bloxburg icon,
it was a crusty image of that freak
version of Tom I've seen in that dreaded
game. He was standing in a flat, dreary
field, smiling at the camera with
bloodshot gazing eyes, his open mouth
revealing his disgusting yellow teeth,
his disfigured right arm raised to the
left side of the image. The thumb on his
left hand was still missing and wearing
that greasy blue outfit. In the top left
corner above the abomination's stretched
out arm, there was what appeared to be a
screenshot of the actual Bloxburg games
icon with the text under it saying,
"Welcome to." I noticed one last word
scrolled onto the image. It was hard to
tell due to the image quality and
filter, but I could make out the word
hell in a handwritten style. Seeing this
image alone makes me sick to my stomach,
but my old friend Curiosity urged me to
click on it to see if there were any
more changes. In fact, there was one
change, however. What replaced the
stolen and edited thumbnail was a
crusty, lowquality photo of a baby's
crib in a dark abandoned room. Oddly
enough, the game was updated on the
exact day I played it. It now had two
visits, one being me and the other being
that nameless player. Without any
hesitation, I clicked the play button at
my own risk. As the Roblox client
started up, I spawned on the same map,
albeit with some unsettling changes. The
default vibrant blue sky box has changed
to a black void. Rain is cascading down
and the environment is shrouded in
darkness and us like fog. New and
disturbing models have been added
throughout the map. As I checked inside
one of the houses, I noticed a blood
stain on the living room carpet, and the
TV showed a news report of what appeared
to be a crime scene. In the bathroom,
what made me jump was that there was a
decapitated head of a baking hair
character in the toilet bowl, its face
ghastly and uncanny, covered in some
dark substance. After exiting the house,
I decided to look into another house.
The inside of it seemed normal, except
for the outside. At the back of the
house, there was a noob character with
both of its hands hanging from chains
connected to the ceiling, lifeless and
covered in blood. In my opinion, the
update for this game tried to be edgy
and horrific with its graphic content.
However, it ultimately appeared cheap as
the blood and dead bodies didn't even
scare me that much, especially when I
experienced more terrifying moments in
Roblox horror games such as Hospital
Nightmare 3 and Bloody Mary awake and
trapped. Moreover, the other four houses
remained untouched and I continued
exploring in this modified version of
the dog Bloxburg map. Then another
unexpected site when I got inside Pizza
Planet. The pizza worker NPCs that were
in the restaurant were all lying on the
ground dead with blood covering the
floor and their bodies. Again, this
didn't frighten me. However, it also
gave me a weak chuckle at how cheap it
is. Although, I'm still feeling slightly
anxious. Next, I went into Ben's ice
cream, and guess what I saw? Yes, on the
counter inside the ice cream parlor,
there was an ice cream pot with a Roblox
and severed head placed onto it. The
right half of its head was sliced off
with flesh exposed, an expression of
pure horror, and its left eye was torn
off, leaving a dark flashy socket.
Lastly, I made my way to the adoption
center, which had the most noticeable
changes of all. At the back of the
building, there were two dumpsters, four
trash cans, four trash bags, and a
random dead Roblox and hiding among the
props. I headed to the girls section
where I saw a dead police officer lying
on one of the cribs, his mouth drooling
blood as well as a stab wound on his
torso. Just as I was about to exit the
adoption center, that god-forsaken
monster version of Tom entered through
the doorway looking quite angry. Then he
said a single word that left me in
complete confusion and utter shock.
Traitor. Then I confronted him by
typing. What is your problem, man? What
the hell is all this? All I want is a
best friend, but you leave my game. Why?
This is starting to get ridiculous. Yet,
I never expected someone, or rather
something, to get really aggressive over
a minor thing on Roblox. Then I
responded, "Dude, your game looks like
complete garbage. Also, you shouldn't
make a copy of someone's already
existing game and advertise it. I work
hard on this game. Original paid. This
is free Bloxburg is better than paid
Bloxburg.
But you already made your game worse
than before. What's up with these dead
body models, man? Just as I was about
done with this guy's nonsense, Tom
pulled out a gear model of a bloody
machete, followed by the familiar Link
sword sound effect and said one last
thing. Goodbye, friend. Again, the worst
part is that I was now unable to control
my Roblox avatar in this game. As the
entity charged toward my player
character and killed me on the spot, the
screen flashed a montage of actual door
photos in a Roblox game, of
course, followed by a loud, distorted,
and timestretched audio clip of a man
laughing psychogically, as well as an
eerie droning noise. The gore pictures
were lowquality with distorted colors
and visuals, and most of them were
similar to the dead-free models that
were implemented in the game. As this
gory madness went on for 5 seconds, I
was swiftly kicked from the game with an
error message. All the while, that ear
bleeding sound kept leaping over and
over like a broken record. I decided to
exit the client and refresh the game's
page. I was expecting to get a Roblox
ban message saying that my account got
deleted or an IP ban, but thankfully it
didn't. The site loads up the familiar
404 message saying page cannot be found
or no longer exists, followed by render
of a confused build character holding
his missing hammer. Relieved, I exited
to the homepage and saw that the
hellhole of a Roblox game had been
removed from my continue playing
section. I decided to open my antivirus
software and run a comprehensive system
and data scan. Upon completion of the
scan, it reported that my computer was
completely clean. Fortunately, the game
didn't cause my PC to crash immediately,
nor did it download any harmful or
malicious files. Still, that fake game
alone left me traumatized to hell and
back. and that distorted creature posing
as Tom as well as the gory imagery were
burned into my mind for the rest of my
life. I believe that Bloxburg free_D,
the one responsible for creating that
up free version of Bloxburg, had
been terminated from Roblox by the site
admins. After the incident, I decided to
stop playing Roblox for the day and
watched some YouTube videos to distract
myself from it. But then I had
nightmares for an entire week. On
Christmas day, I got a Roblox gift card
and bought some Robux to play the real
Bloxburg game by Copus. It was all great
fun and I built my own dream mansion as
well as inviting my friends in. Fast
forward to 2020, a special year for
Roblox when the pandemic took hold and
made real life a living hell. During
July of that year, something strange
happened while I was playing survive the
disasters. While in the midst of the
flying explosive nukes disaster taking
place in the underwater themed map, this
familiar character walked up to me while
I was under a tower structure. It was
him, the dreadful doppelganger of
Bloxburg's mascot, Tom. Like the first
encounter, he never had a name tag, nor
was he on the leaderboard. Just his
grows a natural appearance. Hell, even
the other players are unaware of this
guy's existence on the server. He then
said three things with the speech
bubbles over his head. 5 years later,
bad things happen on Roblox. Hope you
understand, friend. Then a flying noob
heads toward Tom and explodes, killing
him, and he disappears from the game
entirely. After that chilling reminder,
the entity was never heard from again.
