On today, new contract extension at
Bradford City for a further season. How
pleased are you with that?
>> Yeah, I'm made up.
Delighted to be here for another another
extra year.
Um
very respectful towards, you know, the
club, the staff, the board for for
having that trust in me to to carry on
for another year. And yeah, I'm buzzing.
>> What was it about the project, what
we're doing here, that made you want to
commit as well?
>> I just think I've been here now 2 years
and it's been, you know, two
unbelievable years that we've had.
Um and obviously off the back of last
season and how we've started this year,
it's it's an ex- it's exciting and and
the club only wants to go one way. So,
like I said, for them to have that trust
in me to to carry on here, yeah, I'm
over the moon.
>> Obviously, we do take it a game by game,
but two very impressive wins so far in
the league. How much is the excitement
building already?
>> Yeah, yeah, I think, you know, we're the
only team at the minute to to have that
100% record. I know it's only two games,
but, you know, it's it's a confidence
that we've got now within the group
that, you know, we can we can come up
against any team, we'll play our way,
and and we're a difficult team to beat.
So, you know, it's been a great start,
and long may it continue.
>> So, you lead that group. How special is
it as a group of players?
>> Yeah, it's
and you know, I've said about the
captaincy, but, you know, it's such a
good group, you know, there's a there's
a a lot of good lads, a lot of other
leaders in the group, and you know, I'm
I'm the lucky one to wear to wear the
armband, and, you know, like you said
there, you know, the Thursday night was
was a special one for me to to captain
the team out there, and and
listen to the scenes and see the scenes
there from from our fans. It was, yeah,
it's unbelievable.
>> What's going through your head when you
are counting those moments?
>> I can't really put into words, you know,
it's
it is moments like the next day when you
when you watch back and you actually
realize, you know, the atmosphere, how
good it was, and our traveling fans, how
amazing they are, and, you know, to get
the three points there was was special,
and then, you know, the scenes after it
are really good, and, you know, like I
said, you know, I want more of it this
season, and many more to come for for
the extra year.
>> Obviously, you talk about leading the
team out. You get to do it here at
Valley Parade on Wednesday in another
special occasion against Burnley. How
much are you looking forward to that
here at home?
>> Yeah, amazing. You know, ex-Premier
League side that's that's coming to to
our stadium and I know the fans will be
there in the numbers and it's another
special night under the lights and
hopefully we can get another win and
carry on having a another cup run like
we did last year.
>> I guess all those occasions like we've
mentioned Thursday night a few times but
when you look at when you came to the
football club 2 years ago, the hard work
that's going to get in must be really
pleasing to see that reward pay off.
>> Yeah, you know,
you know, since my first meeting with
the gaffer, you know, this is this is
what he wanted. He wanted this place to
become special for for us players to
play here and and the fans to have a a
team to cheer about and I think over the
last 2 years they've they've certainly
had that and you know, it's it's special
for us players to to step out on at
Valley Parade and and have the fans with
us like they have been and hopefully we
can carry on doing what we're doing on
the pitch to to make sure they're still
with us every game.
>> Mention Graham there, someone you
obviously know quite well from your
career. How special is that relationship
with the manager?
>> Yeah, it's you know, it's unbelievable.
He's he's
we know each other quite like inside
out. I've got so much respect for him
and you know,
just for me to be able to, you know,
play for him week in, week out and and
reward him for for having his trust in
me basically. So, yeah, you know, I love
working under the gaffer and and like I
said, it's it's it's exciting that, you
know, he's got that trust in me to to
have me for another year as well.
>> It must give you arm man as well as
another sign of all that trust that he
puts into you to lead the team with him.
>> Yeah, I think you know,
it obviously comes from the gaffer but I
think, you know, when he when he pulled
me about it, you know, I think all the
staff and and players were in were in
agreement. So, you know, that side of it
is is is nice to hear from from my point
of view that I've got that trust and
respect from everyone and you know, I
just want to do what I can for for the
lads and the club on the pitch to to
keep the success going.
>> You've had an illustrious career
yourself but where does your time at
Bradford City rank?
>> Oh, it's definitely up there, 100%. I
think
you know, I can't echo anymore like the
last 2 years I've had here, you know, I
think back to when I signed and and my
first interview, it was it was about
playing in front of this this special
fan base, this playing for this
unbelievable football club and and
bringing good times and and we've had
that and like I said, you know, I I
really do feel like there's there's a
lot of good times on on the way in the
future.
>> So, how much hungry is there to go
again? I've seen you spent a lot of time
and looked at the progress and all the
hard work that's gone to get us to this
point, but when you look at what
potentially could happen, how much
desire hungry is there for yourself?
>> Yeah, massively, you know, I I feel
really good in myself, you know,
physically and mentally and
and you know, every every time I step
out on the pitch, you know, it's it's I
do feel really good in myself, so I'm
excited for the next 2 years.
>> I'd say a lot has been made about your
age, but you are putting out the data
that you are doing, I mean, Graham spoke
quite a lot after the last game that
you're the most output you're running
everything. How much do you still have
left in yourself?
>> Yeah,
so much, you know,
I always, you know, look after myself, I
come back to pre-season in in in the
best physical condition I can and
and I'm still, you know, right up there
with with the rest of the younger lads
and and hopefully like you can see on
the pitch, you know, it's it's something
that I really do
sort of respect in my game like I I
that's what I am as a player, I work
hard and you know, the minute if I can't
do that, I'll be I'll be the first to
say it, but right now I feel so good
mentally and physically like I said and
you know, I want to keep going.
>> That term top professional gets thrown
about quite a lot, but I guess when you
look at the way you look after yourself
like that, you can pass a lot on to the
rest of the group, can't you as well?
>> Yeah, I think that's
I think that's an important role that I
think the the the gaffer mentioned that
to me when when he gave me armband that
he thinks it'll it'll help that side of
me and
you know, we have got a lot of young
lads coming up now and and I'll do
everything I can
to help pass my knowledge onto them and
and also just make sure that, you know,
what show them what it takes to to carry
on and have a a really good career for
yourself.
>> You're so versatile player yourself,
you've got a lot of to give in a few
different positions. How much you
enjoying the change this season?
>> Yeah, it's certainly you know, like I
said, it was one of the changes the
gaffer mentioned to me at the start of
the season and I don't see it as much as
a
as a different role I'm not used to.
I've I've always been central in my in
my career and you know, the way we
press, the way we play, it suits me to a
T and yeah, I'm enjoying it.
