Video summary
The reviewer begins by expressing satisfaction with Friday Night Smackdown, highlighting a significant storyline involving Chelsea Green and her WWE Women's Championship. After Nick Aldis initially suggested that an injured Chelsea might need to relinquish the title due to a broken orbital bone, she delivered a heartfelt promo defending her right to compete despite her injuries. The narrative took a positive turn when officials allowed her to retain the championship pending medical clearance within thirty days, likely requiring some form of face covering during matches. This decision was met with enthusiasm from both the crowd and the reviewer, who praised it as a wholesome moment that successfully hooked viewers into an ongoing storyline rather than simply stripping her of the title prematurely.
Following this segment, the show featured an impromptu match between Gunther and Matt Cardona in casual attire after tensions escalated backstage regarding Kevin Owens' addition to Gunther's upcoming main event. Although Matt stood up for his wife Chelsea against Gunther's disrespect, he ultimately lost via submission once the referee was distracted by Chelsea Green. The reviewer also noted a secondary storyline involving Tiffany Stratton, who suffered an attack from Lash Legend and Nia Jax before her match against JC Jaan for the Women's United States Championship. This interference played out as intended, with JC Jaan emerging victorious to become the new champion while receiving pyro recognition alongside Fatal 4-Face teammates, signaling a strong push for this group on Smackdown.
The main event of the episode was set up as a highly anticipated showdown between Cody Rhodes and Sami Zayn, but it descended into chaos when Randy Orton attacked Cody before the bell could ring. The two legends fought through the crowd until they reached the announce table area where steel steps were placed for dramatic effect. In a climactic sequence that ended abruptly due to time constraints on USA Network, Cody appeared ready to snap and finish off his rival with a steel chair after Randy attempted to use him as a stepping stone onto the steps. The reviewer expressed frustration at not seeing the conclusion but praised the direction of the feud, noting that it was refreshing for Cody Rhodes to shed his "cookie-cutter good guy" persona in favor of a more ruthless character willing to destroy opponents based on their history rather than title implications.
In addition to the main event drama and tag team championship changes where The MFTs defeated Our Truth to become new Smackdown Tag Team Champions, the reviewer discussed a lengthy backstage promo between Kevin Owens and CM Punk ahead of their upcoming WWE Undisputed Championship match in Toronto. They delved into decades-old grievances stemming from an insult over twenty years ago as well as recent conflicts involving AEW personalities like Kenny Omega and The Young Bucks. While acknowledging that the segment could have been slightly shorter, the reviewer enjoyed the intense trash talk where each man questioned the other's work ethic and legacy, particularly Punk's jab about Owens getting speared by Goldberg versus Owens' retort regarding Punk losing to Roman Reigns. Overall, the episode was viewed as a solid setup for next week's important show in Toronto, with excitement building around the historic first-ever match between these two rivals despite their long-standing animosity.

What's good y'all? Ross back at again
with another video. So, I just finished
watching Friday Night Smackdown and
overall I enjoyed the show. They are
expanding some things heading into next
week's show because we know that's going
to be a pretty important show
considering the WWE Championship is on
the line between Kevin Owens and CM
Punk. So, and it's going to be in
Toronto if I'm not mistaken. So, that
should be a pretty interesting show.
looking forward to how things are going
to progress heading into next week. But
they did a good job I feel like on this
show particularly and we saw some title
changes tonight. So we're going to talk
about some of the things I really did
enjoy about Smackdown and we're going to
start with Chelsea Green coming out
there. So Nick Aldis was in the middle
of the ring and
he basically was saying um Chelsea you
need to come out here. we need to have a
conversation. And from that, you kind of
had an idea where things was going. For
those who don't know, Chelsea Green got
injured last week on Smackdown, and she
I think she has a broken orbital bone,
and they weren't sure if she was going
to have to relinquish a title or
whatever the case may be. So, they set
this segment up as if Chelsea is going
to most likely have to relinquish the
title. So, she comes out there
And Nick all is like, "Look, man. I I
don't really uh enjoy doing this type of
stuff, but the medical doctors have
informed me that it, you know, you may
not be able to compete. And to be honest
with you, I don't feel comfortable
enough with you out here trying to
compete. So, I may have to." And before
he could say anything, she tells him,
"Don't say it, Nick. Please don't say
it." Like look, it I I I've worked so
hard to get to this point and you know,
I've been through so much uh in this
business. I've done so many things.
I've, you know, had broken bones. I've,
you know, been hit in the face with pies
and cake and been thrown in the trash
cans. And she sent a few shots at
Michael Hayes. She was basically saying,
you know, there's people in the back
that don't want me here and or don't
think I'm deserve to be in the spot. Not
verbatim, but she was alluding to who,
you know, who we would all know is
Michael Hayes. Like, you know, she I
think she had said something to the
extent of um I'm only here for some
people, I'm only here to prop other
people up. That's kind of what Michael
Hayes has said. in and it was a
heartfelt promo and the crowd was into
it. Crowd was really pro Chelsea tonight
as they have been for a while now and
she basically like man like what would
you do? Like you saw what you know how
things played out for you at SummerSlam
and how you were wrestling in front of
your family and how it was something
important. This is important to me. And
as she takes off the belt, she's like,
"Look,
until somebody actually beats me, I'm
still the WWE champion, WWE women's
champion." So, she gives him the belt,
she gets out of the ring, and Nick Alder
said, "You know what? No, I'm not going
to do you like that. You know what? if
you can find, you know, some type of
face gear or you can get some type of
doctor to sign off or, you know, the
treatment goes well within the next 30
days. If you can do that, then you can
hold on to this title until someone
beats you. So, they have decided to let
Chelsea Green hold on to the WWE Women's
Championship. Um, I'm guessing they
probably will have her wear some type of
face covering most likely, like a mask
of some sort. So, or they'll probably
wait for a little bit before she can
actually um go in the ring. So, maybe
give her a little bit more time to heal
up, but they're not taking the title off
of her. Great moment. Crowd really loved
this. I thought this was a wholesome
moment. And I like how they turned this
into a storyline to kind of hook people
in. thought is the are they going to
have her drop the title, relinquish it,
only for them to be like, "No, we're
not." I thought that was actually nice.
And then Gothther music hit. So Gunther
comes out there and he's like, "Man, I
don't know why you wasting your time on
this. I need to have a conversation with
you. I need to know why
you added Kevin Owens to the match to my
match." And you know, Chelsea like, you
know, feeling disrespected and she uh
Gunther starts disrespecting Chelsea
like, "Man, you he basically called her
a nobody. You you ain't nobody like I
don't no one cares about you. You got
injured after you just got the title
last week. Shut up." So,
he's talking to uh he goes back to
talking to Nick Aldis and Nick Aldis
like, "Well, it wasn't your match. You
got added to Kevin Owens match. Me and
Kevin Owens have been talking about this
for months. I did you a solid and put
you in the match and you still lost.
Still couldn't get the job done. So
don't say, "Oh, it was your match." No,
that was Kevin Owens match. You just got
added to it. So then Chelsea Green
starts making fun of him. She was like,
"Hey, you know what's crazy? I only see
one world champion in here and it's not
you." So after that, she he starts to,
you know, kind of bow up to Chelsea and
then Matt Cardona, obviously Chelsea's
husband, comes out there and look, I
love it. I love that Matt Cardona is
going to stand up for his wife as he
should, but let's keep it a thousand
times, too. Uh, we knew Matt Cardona
just came from catering, and we knew he
was probably going to get packed up. So,
they set up an impromptu match, which I
enjoyed. They weren't in their wrestling
gear. When we come back to commercial
break, it is a 101 cuz he started
talking. He was disrespecting Matt like
what you going to do? What you you going
you going to bow up to me as he made
sure Chelsea got out the ring. That's
when you know he started putting hands
on Gunther and they set up the match. No
ring gear. Everybody wrestling in their
jeans and and regular comfortable shoes.
Um and I thought that was a nice touch.
I thought that was nice. They set it up
as an impromptu fight, but ultimately GA
gets the win. This was a nice close
little uh like potential swerve moment
where the ref is distracted with Chelsea
Green and he ends up kicking uh Gunther
into McNuggets. Ref didn't see it. You
think he's going to get the win, but
Gunther still kicks out. And once he
kicked out, I knew it was over. He ends
up putting uh putting um
uh Matt Cardona in a submission hold.
Matt taps instantly and it's over. It's
over. So, hey Matt, we appreciate you
sticking up for your wife, but go ahead
and uh go back to catering. Your food
got cold. Nevertheless, I did enjoy that
segment. Next, we got to talk about
um I think it was Cody and Nick Aud.
They were talking backstage and
basically he's like, "Look, hey, let's I
I'm trying to set up a match. Well,
let's get this paperwork signed up. Uh
Cody's talking about setting up a match
with Randy. Let's get this signed up so
we can get this going." And he's like,
"Well, I don't know where Ry's at, but
Saturday nights or I think it's going to
be Sunday night's main event is going to
be in Atlanta, so we can set something
up for that time in September." He's
like, "All right, cool." Then you see
Sammy and Sammy comes in there and like,
"Look at this. You guys are always
together. Seems like whenever Cody gets
what he wants, Cody always gets what he
wants and in no one bats an eye. If Cody
wants a WWE uh championship match, all
he has to do is say win. That's um he's
alluding to what Cody and CM Punk had to
say. I think that was last week when CM
Punk was like, "Hey, whenever you want a
title shot opportunity, just say win."
So,
what I liked about this, and I hope they
continue this, Cody just is over it.
He's like, "At one point, I used to have
restraint when it came to you, Sammy,
because of our friendship and history,
but now I honestly don't give a damn.
What you want to do about it? I'm sick
of this talking stuff. How about tonight
we can settle this right now, you know?"
And he's like, "Look, I can't even go.
You know, my hand is messed up, my wrist
is messed up, but remember Cody, last
time me and you went at each other, I
beat you clean in that ring. Not many
people can say that. I did that. And
Cody's like, "Bro, I'm I'm over it. I
don't really give a damn. Fine, do it
tonight. Let's see if you can do that
tonight." Cool. And Nick Aldis sweeten
the deal. He's like, "Look, if you beat
Cody tonight, then you get a number one
contendership opportunity, whoever wins
out of Kevin Owens and CM Punk next
week." Now, of course, Cody is like, I
mean, Sammy's like, "Man, but my wrist."
Hey, what are you going to do? You was
injured last time. I get we going now
you get an opportunity to figure out
what you going to do. So, they were
going to set that up for the main event
of tonight. Now, the next thing I want
to talk about is I want to talk about
the uh promo segment between Kevin
Owens, CM Punk. Kevin Owens comes out
there. CM Punk comes out there and CM
Punk basically like, "Look, I basically
came out here because I wanted to hear
what you had to say to my face." And
right before Kevin Owens was about to
say, he does his usual, "Man, it does
feel good to be in Boston." You know, he
does that every city he goes to now.
Kind of cut him off. CM Punk is an
[ __ ] We know this to be very true.
So, after that,
Co uh Kevin Owens basically lets the
fans know why they don't like each
other. And this has been going on for a
very long time. They give the backstory
because I didn't know this. I had looked
up some videos of why they don't like
each other. I even seen the interview of
Kevin Owens a long time ago talking
about their history and their issues
they had in RLH. And basically this is
what Kevin Owens does here. He doesn't
go into great detail, but the main focal
point of why Kevin Owens doesn't like CM
Punk. And one of the re main reasons is
what happened over 20 years ago. Uh they
were in the same promotion. Something
was said and went to the locker room and
basically CM Punk bered him. you know,
called him a fat, lazy slob, you know,
basically, you know, insulting him. And
for Kevin Owens, that's just a a thing
that's that stuck with him for a very
long time. CM Punk is like, "Really?
That's that's what it is? It's something
that happened over 20 years ago. That's
why you don't like me?" And then uh
Kevin Owens was like, "No, it's more to
that." I mean, there's other reasons.
for example, how you treat, you know,
some people that I care about, some of
my friends that I truly care about, how
you mistreated them and was, you know,
and how you came at them. And this is
when I knew he's alluding to, you know,
some people from AEW. So CM Punk walks
closer, you know, what friends you
talking about? Who who what what friends
that you may be, you know, conversing
with? Say their names. You know,
basically like who you talking about?
Even though CM Punk knows who he's
talking about and that's when Kevin
Owens like it it's not just those three
that you think I'm talking about.
There's more of people more people that
I'm you know been cool with in the
business you know that are my friends I
care about that you you know that don't
like you as well. And I like that that
was alluded to. Obviously, the Young
Bucks and Kenny Omega, they're cool with
Kevin Owens and obviously their history
in AEW with CM Punk. There's no love
loss there. So, I like how they ti they
put that in there. If you know, you
know, type situation. So, I thought that
was nice. Um then CM Punk uh kind of
rebuttals back with the the sentiments
of for someone you sit up here and say
that I view you like this like some fat
slob, right? Or maybe you view yourself
like that, you know, like I I know who
you are. I know how tough you are. I
know what you've done, but it seems as
if that's more of a personal issue with
yourself. And then he starts breaking
down what he doesn't like about uh Kevin
Owens. He basically tells him, "Look,
you're a tough guy. I just think you're
a bum." He b he called him legit. I just
think you're a bum. I think you you
don't work to your full potential. Uh I
think you're lazy. I don't think you
really understand how far you could go,
you know, and I that's one of the main
reasons I don't really respect you. I
don't really care for you. I just think
you're a bum.
And ultimately, this segment ends off
with
them even getting more, you know, heated
and intense. I like the lines that they
threw at each other like, um, you know,
you never got a chance to really main
event Wrestlemania with Stone Cold.
You'll never get that opportunity. And
CM Punk was like, you know,
you know, maybe if you were more like me
and had the work ethic like I did, you
probably wouldn't have gotten speared by
Goldberg. He's talking about how he got
speared by Goldberg and lost the
Universal Championship. And I love how
KO is like, well, maybe if you was more
like me, maybe you wouldn't have gotten
speared by Roman Reigns and lost your
title. I was like, ah, that's a nice
little jab. They're throwing jabs back
and forth at each other. And then
towards the end, he basically, you know,
he was saying, "20 years ago, I wanted
to p I I regretted not punching you in
the face when you talked to me like that
when you was disrespecting me." And Son
was like, "Hey, go ahead. I'm right
here. There's space and opportunity. Go
ahead and do it." He said, "Nah, I'm not
going to do it." You know, because I
knew if I would have did it then, you
would have definitely made sure my
career was done early. But if I can wait
20 years, I can definitely wait seven
more days so that way I can finally take
that title and beat your [ __ ] ass. Like
I I love it. I'm I can't wait to beat
your [ __ ] ass. So I'm cool either way.
I can wait. And I love seeing Punk's
rebuttal. Like that's cool. That's fine.
I can't wait till we do fight each other
cuz you going to be looking up after I
beat your fat ass, bro.
I enjoyed it. I like this. You know that
you can tell these guys legit don't like
each other. They're not fans of each
other. So, they were able to go out
there and talk trash to each other. Did
it go on a little bit too long? I think
they could have shaved off maybe five
minutes of that. Could have gave the
five minutes from this segment, maybe to
the ending of the show. We'll talk about
that. But nevertheless, I still enjoyed
it and I'm excited to see how things are
going to play out on uh on next week for
um the WWE Undisputed Championship. I
didn't even know this is their first
time ever having a match because when
Kevin Owens came into WWE,
CM Punk was already gone. So, this is
going to be their first ever match in
WWE history. This is going to be
interesting. I I really can't wait to
see how this is going to play out. Next,
we got to talk about um
oh, I forgot to mention uh there was a
moment um where
Lash Legend and um
and what's her name? I think it was Nia
Jax. Yeah, there was a moment Lash
Legend and Nia Jax came out there and
Nia was basically saying, "Oh, well, you
know, it's cool that you're going to be
defending, you know, you're, you know,
you're going to be able to hold on to
your championship, but really doesn't
matter cuz I'm going to take that from
you anyways." So, as she comes out
there, her Elash and Nia, that's when
Tiffany comes out there, she tries to
attack him. Obviously,
um Chelsea can't really, you know, do
anything cuz she's not medically
cleared. So, they end up beating up uh
Tiffany and Tiffany later on had a match
for the Women's United States
Championship. They, you know, kind of
injured Tiffany in a sense and you can
kind of tell how this was going to play
out and that kind of goes into
um
the match later on in the show. So, we
do get um JC Jane versus Tiffany
Stratton for the Women's United States
Championship. And I kind of figured the
attack from Nia and uh Lash ultimately
softened up um Tiffany in this match.
But also, there's a point that they were
making that Tiffany was out here trying
to also protect um Chelsea Green and
that ultimately cost her. She was trying
to make sure Chelsea was good. That
ultimately cost her both times tonight.
And JC Jane is your new women's United
States champion. After the match, they
gave her pyro. She's standing out there
uh with the rest of her her teammates.
They all draped in gold, gave her the
pyro, and I'm okay with that. The fact
that they pushed them up, you know,
they've been pushing this group um as
soon as they got to the main roster. uh
fatal fatal influence. The fact that
they've been pushing them as well as
they have, they all have gold now, it's
going to be interesting to see what they
end up doing, but it's it's dope to see.
So, JC Jane is your new women's United
States Champion.
Um there was the triple threat tag team
match. Honestly, really didn't too much
care for this match. The crowd didn't
either. It was kind of dead and quiet
until our truth got the hot tag and was
doing the John Cena moves. But
ultimately the right team wanted the
MFTts. They finally have Haku as their
managers. And I as yeah as their
managers. I figured if you're going to
do that, there's a good chance they're
probably going to win the tag title
soon. And that's what happened. Your MF
the MFTts are your new tag Smackdown tag
team champions. It was okay. But I'm
going to be honest with you, the tag
team division even on Smackdown is just
it's it's kind of just bland.
It's not really much happening. Uh even
though they have teams, they just
haven't really put too much emphasis on
for you to care about them. So that's
why I said this match was pretty dead
even from the crowd's like reaction
until like the last few minutes. But the
MFTts are your new Smackdown tag team
champions. And last but not least, got
to talk about the main event segment.
Uh, it was supposed to be a match
between Cody and Sami Zayn, but Randy
Orton came from behind and attacked him
before the match even happened. They
started fighting off through the crowd.
They finally get back to the announceers
area and
that's where um before they start off
into the crowd, Randy Orton placed the
steel steps on the announcers area kind
of like he did right before
Wrestlemania. So, they're fighting.
Officials get out there and finally, as
it looks like Ry's about to to pack up
Cody the same way he did before
Wrestlemania, Cody said, "Nah, that's
not happening to me, brother." And kicks
him square in the jewels. Then he hits
Randy Orton with the steel chair. Now
Randy Orton's laying in that position.
And Cody's thinking about it. He's
thinking about it. And then Cody says,
"Fuck and he raises the chair. He's
about to kill Randy. He's about to kill
the legend killer. He about to back him
up. But of course, because he's the good
guy, all of a sudden, the officials
decide to get the chair out of his hand.
But they didn't do it when Randy
literally killed him months ago. Nobody
went up there and stopped Randy from
bringing that chair down onto Cody's
skull between those steel steps. But
this time they said, "Nah, we we we're
not going to we're not going to let this
happen again." So they stopped Cody. And
then after that,
Cody's trying to get at him. He's Cody's
snapped. He's not trying to let Randy
go. He's trying to end him, which I'm
all for. And then he gets back on top of
the table and I guess it looks like he's
about to put him in the crossroads
position. Or maybe he does hit him with
the crossroads position. I don't know
because the show went to black because
they had to go to the next show. The
show cut off. So, I'm probably gonna
have to check out on social media what
happened after that, which I'm sure
they'll have the footage. But, it was
just frustrating because
they ran out of time and USA ain't doing
no overruns cuz they have other shows
they have to get to. So, um it would
have been nice if maybe they shaved
something else off. Maybe they could
have shaved a few minutes off that promo
to give them at least a little bit of
extra time to see what was going to
happen at the end. But that was the real
complaint there cuz we don't know what
happened unless you know they they I'm
sure they're going to show us on social
media. That's usually what they do if
they run out of time. They'll just show
it on show social media. But overall, I
enjoyed that. I like that. I like the
fact that Cody is on timing. He He legit
seems like, you know what? I don't have
to I don't have to be a cookie cutter
good guy. No, I'm sick of this with you.
I'm going to end you if I have to. And
the this is the feud I want I want from
Cody. You don't need the title. Just
have these guys want to destroy each
other cuz they have history. I'm okay
with it. You did the same thing with
Kevin Owens and Cody when they were
feuding here. Here, I'm all for it. Have
them want to destroy each other. build
that up. It's okay for Cody to just snap
because it's refreshing to see and I
love to see it, man. And I want to see
more of it. That's what I want to see. I
want to see Cody start to really tread
that line of good and bad guy or just a
guy that's doing what he feels like is
right. Even if that means splattering
someone's brain with a steel chair. I
approve. But hey, comment down below and
let me know what did you what did you
guys think of this episode of Smackdown.
Did you guys enjoy it? Are you guys
excited about Kevin Owens, CM Punk for
the WWE Unspeed Championship next week?
Cuz I know I am. But let me know how you
guys feel about the show overall.
Appreciate all love, support. Road to
200K. Appreciate y'all kicking with me.
See you on next one. Peace.
