Video summary
Cody Bellinger and his team have built upon a strong momentum by securing their fourth consecutive victory, with seven of his last nine games ending in wins for the squad. When asked about the factors driving this success, Bellinger attributes the team's rolling performance to solid pitching that keeps them competitive throughout the contest, combined with an offense that is firing on all cylinders. He emphasizes that maintaining this level of play is essential to keeping their winning streak alive, suggesting that the synergy between their defensive efforts and offensive output has been the primary engine behind their recent dominance.
The game against the Mets was particularly notable for its competitive nature, a dynamic Bellinger describes as always being fun whenever these two teams meet. He highlighted specific contributions from teammates like Carlos, who pitched effectively before giving up some runs, while the bullpen worked diligently to protect the lead once established. A key moment of discussion involved Bellinger's own at-bat in the second inning with two outs and runners on base; he praised the strategic use of an ABS challenge by his team, noting that it was a smart decision to avoid unnecessary risk when trying to extend a rally, especially given the judgment call made behind him.
Facing Nolan Ryan, who was pitching well into the game, Bellinger explained that the key to success in such situations is to keep things simple and not overcomplicate the approach against a pitcher with such quality stuff. He acknowledged Ryan's ability to locate pitches effectively but noted that his team responded with good at-bats by sticking to their basic strategy. Additionally, he commended the defensive work of Hedrick, specifically pointing out a crucial catch in the seventh inning that prevented further damage and showcased the high level of glove play required to win close games.
Beyond the on-field statistics, Bellinger reflected on the profound emotional significance of the game, which took place on September 11th at a ballpark filled with people honoring those affected by the tragedy. He described wearing the FDNY hat during the pregame ceremony as a deeply important moment that transcended the typical scope of a baseball game. For Bellinger and many others in attendance, the event represented a chance to honor a cause bigger than themselves, turning what could have been just another match into a meaningful tribute to resilience and community spirit on a day that holds special weight for so many.

Cody, this team has now won four in a
row, seven of your last nine. What has
allowed you guys to roll?
>> Uh, we're playing good. Pitching keeping
us in the game. Uh, offense,
um, you know, just firing on all C
cylinders. We just got to keep it
rolling.
>> Seems like anytime the Yankees and Mets
meet, it is a battle. Just what do you
think of the way uh this one unfolded
tonight?
>> Yeah, these games are so fun. Uh, Carlos
threw the ball so well. Uh, scored a few
runs off a tough pitcher and, you know,
bullpen doing what they do. uh keeping
our lead and uh it's a good win.
>> You were responsible for some of the
runs today, but you look at that second
inning, you stepped to the plate with
two on and two out. You don't get that
opportunity without Ben Rice getting on.
What did you think of the use of the ABS
challenge there?
>> Yeah, great use ABS. I think it's 10 11
pitch at bat. Full beat right before him
getting on base and uh for me just
trying to keep the rally going knowing I
got judged behind me. So, not trying to
do too much.
>> You mentioned that Nolan Mlan was
throwing the ball pretty well coming
into tonight. Just what is uh the key in
that situation? How overall were you
guys able to get to him?
>> Really, you have to keep it simple. The
stuff is so good. Um, and you know, he's
he's a good pitcher. He knows how to
locate and uh, you know, we just kept it
simple today and I thought we had really
good at bats.
>> Pitching always plays a role for this
team. What do you think of the glove
work from Hedrickk in the seven?
>> That was uh, it was a good catch.
That'll play Hedrick.
>> This day a very emotional one for a lot
of people in this ballpark. Just what
did it mean to you to be able to wear
that FDNY hat tonight?
>> Yeah, really important. Uh, you know,
pregame ceremony. These are the days
where it's more than just a game, a kind
of bigger than yourself moment.
