Video summary
Cody Bellinger discussed his team's recent offensive surge, highlighting their ability to string together quality at-bats that have resulted in nine runs over the last three games. He attributed this success to the lineup's collective effort and expressed enjoyment in finding their rhythm recently. The conversation then shifted to a specific moment in the seventh inning where Espatada brought in left-handed pitcher Souza to face lefties at the top of the order, setting the stage for a crucial defensive stand.
Bellinger reflected on how his teammates loaded the bases before he stepped up to the plate, noting that three solid hits from Gish, Ben, and Louie set him up perfectly. In this high-pressure situation with the game tied late in the inning, Bellinger emphasized keeping things simple by not trying to do too much. His approach involved sticking to his plan and maintaining a consistent strategy throughout every at-bat, which allowed him to capitalize on the opportunities presented by his predecessors.
The interview also covered the impressive performances of other key players, including Luis Garcia Jr., who was praised for his insane bat speed, ability to hit the ball hard, and strong defensive play. Garcia Jr.'s contributions were described as a huge addition to the team, while young pitcher Elmer, making his fifth major league start at just 23 years old, received high marks for pitching well against a formidable opponent. So Cody, the offense continued to go to
work tonight. Nine runs on the board, 24
over the last three games. What has it
been about this offense that has allowed
you guys to find your group?
>> Oh, you know, we've been putting
together good at bats. Um, you know,
this is the the things that we can do as
a lineup and uh it's been fun fun
recently.
>> Hey, you look at that seventh inning.
Espatada brings in the lefty Souza to
face the lefties at the top of the
order. What do you think of the way
those guys responded to load the bases
for you?
>> Yeah, well obviously three really good
at bats in front of me. Gish, Ben, Louie
getting on hard 90 down the line and for
me just kept it simple obviously and it
was a tie game late in the game and
didn't try to do too much.
>> You talk about not trying to do too
much. You look at what you've done with
runners in scoring position 349 that is
fifth best in the American League. Why
do you thrive in those situations? How
are you able to keep it simple?
>> Yeah, you know, I just stick with my
plan, stick with my approach. Uh I try
to keep every at bat the same and uh
just try and stay as consistent as I
can. Luis Garcia Jr., another big night.
What's impressed you about him at the
plate?
>> Just a really, I mean, just really good
hitter. Um, really good, insane bat
speed, hits the ball hard, controls the
at bats. Um, been playing great defense
and he's just been a huge addition to
this team.
>> How about Elmer? 23 years old, making
his fifth major league start. You need
distance from him. And what did you
think of the job he did this evening?
>> Yeah, that was that was fun to watch.
Um, you know, definitely knows he feels
good about that. uh he he knows what
he's capable of and to come up here
against a really good team and and pitch
pitch well was good to see.
>> Cody, congratulations on the win.
