Classroom Set Up Day 3 | Making Bulletin Boards in My 4th Grade Classroom

[music] >> Good morning, everyone. Welcome back to another Apples and Tiaras vlog. Today is classroom set up day three. Please ignore this messy dirty mirror. Um clearly, that needs to go on my to-do list. Um but it is Wednesday. Ooh, I need to text my mom and have her have Cash take the trashes up. Ooh, let me do that right now. Okay, crisis averted. No big deal, no stress. Okay, so it is Wednesday morning and I'm here in my fourth-grade classroom. It's coming together slowly but surely. I wanted to quickly turn you guys around and show you my second shirt that I purchased for back-to-school season. So, this T-shirt came from teachersgram.com and it's so freaking cute. I saw another teacher on Facebook have a similar design [clears throat] to this, but then I couldn't find it anywhere and then I was perusing the teachersgram website and I stumbled across it and I was like, "Oh, that's where she got it." So, I'm sharing it with you. I got it on teachersgram. It says, "Fourth grade checker is kind of my jam right now." As you can see, it's on It's on like two out of four of my bulletin boards. So, I kind of like the checkerboard print right now. It's kind of a mild obsession. Um but anyways, the T-shirt itself is super buttery soft. I don't know the brand of the T-shirt. I can't see it from here. Um this is a size small and they're made of cotton, so they definitely shrink a little bit when you wash them. Uh but this is a size small, for reference. I'm like 5'7", 160 uh 160-ish lbs. Um, so size small fits me just fine, and I'm okay with it shrinking a little bit. So, today, I am going to focus first on finishing bulletin boards. So, anyway, this is going to be a math wall. I have a bunch of really cute math posters that I bought. I need to go through them and pull out the first couple that I need um for quarter one, and then hang those up. I also want to put like, obviously, like the word math over the top. Um, and I have some cute checkerboard letters that I might use. I don't know. Should I use checkerboard letters on a checkerboard wall? Or should I put these on the writing wall? We'll see. Um, and then, that's going to be the writing wall, and the reason I picked that one is because it has lined paper. Um, so, you know, obviously, it should it should be the writing wall. Um, and then, this tie-dye one is going to be for reading. Um, I have my little tray here, full of all the tools I need. Dude, this tool This is the Fiskars, I don't know the name of the tool. I'll try to remember to link it down below. But this thing cuts like freaking butter. You literally just roll it and it cuts it. It cut this paper in one swoop and it cuts the borders in one swoop. So I'm like, okay, are you going to cut like card stock? Probably. Um So anyway, I have this ready to go. My stapler that I purposely broke in half so that I could use it on walls. A staple remover, push pins, don't know why the Sharpie's here. And then I use this to smooth out um the paper if I need to. Okay. So the writing wall, I think I'm going to use light pink and smiley face flowers on the writing wall. And then I think I'm just going to use sunflowers on the reading wall. I think that's what we're going to do. And then we'll call it a day. So I'm going to do that. I'm going to put you guys up on your little perch, your little tripod. So, I ran out of smiley face flowers, which is really unfortunate because out in the hallway I have a smiley face flower bulletin board, too, and there's like a chunk missing. So, I'm going to have to make the decision. I think I might I stuck this pom-pom in this in this corner. I probably could print some kind of like symbol or something to put in that corner. But, because of the hallway situation, I think I might swap the smiley faces out for disco balls or I have regular smileys. Should I do regular smileys? I don't have this anywhere else in the room. Maybe I'll do And then that way I can preserve those smileys for the hallway board. So, I think that's what I'm going to do. Luckily, I didn't put that many staples in. So, I can remove the smileys no problem and then replace them with the other ones. >> [music] [music] >> Okay, that's done and it turned out super cute. Loves it. I think I want to do this poof though over here. I think I have another color of this somewhere. I got to look. Um but I could put it on top of this one cuz this one's supposed to be like in the back. So, I'm either going to do pink or if I can find a different color, I'll do that. But I'll just go up there. And bulletin boards are done. Yes, guys. They're done. I hate I hate doing bulletin boards like with passion. Okay, they're not totally done cuz I still need to do this. So, now I'm wondering would checkerboards still be cute with smileys and pink? Or should I do this on the math wall? I feel like I should maybe do this on the math wall. All right, you guys. The math wall is done. I put up the first few um like concepts that we're going to be learning about this year. On the top are things that I'm going to keep up all year long. So, we have math keywords. They're really small and hard to see, but like nobody could see that from their seat. But I do intend to do vocab in their math notebooks so that they have access to them. Um and then we also did powers of 10 cuz that's going to be on our radar and place value. That will probably stay up all year. Um I also have fractions and decimals together. And then a multiplication chart and a division chart. Um we are starting with fractions and factors and multiples. So, which leads me to my next thing. Um and I'm going to have to figure out where I want to do this, but remember when I went to Hobby Lobby and I bought these numbers? Well, um, they're really cute. They have all the multiples of each one on them, but I'm trying to figure out where I want to put them. Um, so I I thought about the idea of like putting them to the side like this. Like one, sorry, one, two, three, four. Um, but I have 12 of them and I don't know that I want to go all the way to 12. I also have the option of putting them like on those big cabinets over there. Like I could do six on each side. That's an option, but then I'm giving up that cabinet from like like the morphology wall idea. So, I'd be giving that up, but I feel like these would probably make more sense on the cabinets. So, I think I might put them there. >> [music] [music] >> Okay, guys. So, if you like to put up laminated things, whether it's like letters or posters or whatever, number lines, and they're super glossy. You can get this matte clear enamel spray, and it will reduce the shine. So, my number line up there, I sprayed it last year. It was hysterical. I sprayed it in the morning before the kids came, not even thinking, and it freaking reeked in here in this whole building for like hours. So, I sprayed this outside this time. Um but, I needed to de-shine my races posters. I found it. It's right here. Yay! Okay. I just need to go spray this real quick. Let me make sure it's actually going to fit on this board. That would really stink if it didn't. Okay, you're not on a tripod, so forgive the shaky. Whoa, it's like longer than the board. So, what if I put it over here? Would that be so bad? I don't think so. I think that'd be cool. All right. I'm going to go spray it real quick, let it dry, and then we'll hang it up. >> You understand >> [music] >> when you wake me up before you go to leave me. >> [music] [music] >> All right, guys. It is only 9:15. I've gotten so much done. Okay, writing wall and math wall are pretty much done for now. Um reading wall, I'm going to I don't know what I'm going to do that yet. I have completely no idea. Um I might just put some like reading vocab on it. I might also just leave it empty for like anchor charts. I don't know yet. Um Anyways, I bought these outdoor string lights and I wanted to hang them around the room um in addition to my disco ball. So, I have this plug up here. Where is it? Right there. Right there. From back in the day when we had projectors. And so, I need one plug for the string lights and one plug for the disco ball. The string lights are 200 ft long and they're on a remote and a timer. So, I love that because I can just turn them on whenever I feel like. The big challenge now is to put them up. So, I purchased So, technically, we can have lights up on the ceiling, but we're supposed to hang them from um fishing wire, which I fully intend to do. But, what I'm going to do first is hang them up with super high powered magnets. So, I don't have a ladder with me. So, I'm going to do what every teacher does and I'm going to stand on this desk. Mercedes is coming here. So, I'm thinking I might stand on it one time and just put the first hook up there just to see if I can even reach it. And then once Mercedes comes, I might have her like hold on to me or something. I don't know yet. Um but I have these super high like heavy duty um, hooks. So, I'm going to use the bigger ones for the plug area, and then I'll use the smaller ones for the lights. We're going to test this out and see if it actually works. So, if you guys see my death, please tell my kids I love them. Okay, we're going to just do like four four hooks. I'm just going to go around the perimeter of that ceiling tile that has the um, the plug in it. And this desk seems more sturdy than the other ones. So, I feel okay. One. They're so stuck together. Two. Slowly. Three. >> [music] [music] >> definitely work. So, that is good news. So, I think maybe tomorrow tomorrow, I'll probably turn this off right now and just leave them here. And then tomorrow, I will actually bring a ladder so that I can do this project, and I'll just save the whole project for tomorrow. Um, but for now, let's use the remote and turn them off. Because we can. Sorry if this angle is really bad. I just tripod is over there and I can't be bothered to go get it. So. I love that this is on a remote. This is so cool. I just hate fluorescent lights with a passion. So, if I can avoid using them, I will. >> [gasps] >> I'm such a child. Cool. Love that. Okay. Hey you guys. So, it has been a little while. I feel like maybe an hour since I last talked to you guys. Um, I've just been doing little projects. Um, I did this, obviously. I think that was the last thing I showed you. And then, I decided to go ahead and sort out my Dojo store. So, let me show you guys what that's looking like right now. I'm kind of obsessed. I still need to label and like put the stickers up. But, look how cute. I'm going to put So, I'm going to need to put this on my to-do list, but I'm going to put Dojo store on the back wall. So, like in bright green and black letters. And then, on this side, I'm going to have a bunch of stickers displayed. And they're all in this bin right now. These are all the stickers I have. So, I have three unopened packs, which I might leave unopened, to be honest. And then, just put a bunch of stickers in the little pockets. I'm not going to sit here and do this right now, cuz I just don't feel like it's necessary to do right now. I might even have, um, one of the kiddos do it when they come. Um, and then on this side, I have some little like charm things that I had last year. And then, I will do more stickers. Um and then I do have coupons in here that I need to display as well. But I'm thinking I might need to make them smaller because I want to do the bottom row of each side um the Dojo tickets. So I think I might remake them just a little bit smaller, like maybe half half the size. And then that way when the kids want a ticket, they just pull from like I'll do 5 10 15 20 25 30 35 40 or something like that. Um but these worked out so good. Um and they fit perfectly in there. And then you just close it. And nobody knows it's there. It's so great. Oh, I got to put the stickers back. Um so some stuff I have in here, obviously I have stickers. I have these little squishies. Um I have Croc Charms, tons of them, pencils and erasers, these other squishies, which I might combine with those. And then up here I have some fun funky pens. These are keychains um and Pop-Its. Then I'll have a snack one and then these are just sunglasses. Um I might save those for next I don't know. We'll see. I just put all my pricey stuff in here for now. And then I can revamp and reorganize and whatever later. But that was one job that I needed to do. Okay, so I decided I think I'm going to take these home because I have several uses for them. Um like in my garage and in the boys' closets. Hi Sam. What you doing? Couple of things I just did. I put all of these little trays that I bought at Hobby Lobby inside of each kid's desk. I did start the year with assigned seats, which I don't normally do, but actually had Chat GPT make my seating chart. At our school, when we sort kids, we label them by academic grade level, behavioral needs, IEP, title reading, um gifted, whatever. It's all on a spreadsheet. So, then we balance the classes by doing like, you know, equal amounts highly proficient, equal amounts low, that kind of thing. So, anyway, I uploaded the um spreadsheet to chat GPT and I said, "Make me a seating chart separating behaviors, mixing highly proficient with lowy with lower students, um split up the IEPs, and equal boys and girls." And he did it for me. So, we're going to try the seating chart that chat GPT made for the beginning of the school year, and then we can always adjust after the first few weeks if it doesn't work. We can always swap kids around. But, it's nice because now I put their little drawers in, so the girls have purple and the boys have black. It's just kind of how it ended up happening. I would have preferred all black, but purple was like the next best color for the girls. Um and so, if anyone needs to trade desks, their whole desk moves. They don't pull their stuff out and move their stuff. It's just the whole desk moves. They're all the same and they have They're all the same height, so I don't need to worry about whether or not it will fit. Um what else have I done? Oh, I hung these up cuz I used to have them on the wall and I was like, "What do I do with these? They're so cute and that wall is so empty." So, I hung them or I Yeah, I stapled them there. So cute. And then, let's see what else did I do. Um I put these little table caddies that I have out on the middle of each table team, and I thought this would be a great way to like put supplies that each kid's going to need on a daily basis, not necessarily like their own personal supplies, but like if I'm handing something out or if it's something different than what they have in their desk, I can plop it in these big containers. And then they have a little plant. I even thought about maybe like buying like a fake candle would be really cute to like put in this one just to make it more cozy and homey and fun. Um and so I had enough of them for each table group. So I just put those out. So cute. Um so you can see now that the tables are starting to clear off, which is great news. These are um chair bags. They go on the backs of the chairs. I intend to put reading books and clipboards in this. Um and potentially math workbooks. Um that way they can just keep folders, notebooks, and binders in their desk and then this can carry like the bulkier stuff. I don't want it to be too heavy. These are from Team Me but my teammate Jocelyn had them last year and she swore they were really good quality. So I do need to take those out and put them on all the chairs. I thought about right now cuz I've got about an hour and a half left of the day. Um just taking all the chairs down and pushing them in and then putting the bags on them and then that's just one less thing that's just out. Um let's see what else did I do? I don't know that I did anything else like super big. Um oh, I put all these out. These [clears throat] new storage bins. I have two that I need a find a home for. Um this cabinet it didn't end up being like equal in size, but that's fine. I'm thinking I'll probably put um a station or something in these and then put them under the TV or in different spots in the room. But I did end up emptying out those old fabric ones that I used to use into these and so now they just look way more uniform. I put those colored bags for games in there and I'm just going to leave them there until I need them. Um I needed to save space for potentially for textbooks to go in here. So, that can be where what that's for and then I can always move the headphones somewhere else. I need to sort out where I'm going to put all my birthday stuff. Um I just need like a crate or a bin to put them in. Um but I don't have one. So, I got to sort that out. Uh once the clipboards are passed out, I'll have this bin available. But I also thought about going through another cabinet, like maybe this one. And just kind of like putting it putting this stuff somewhere else. And then I could use this for birthday cup stuff, like maybe just the bottom would be good if I could just re like if I could reorganize that um then the bottom would be for birthday cups. Um and then I have these binders that I don't know how many I have, but I almost feel like messaging my families and being like, "Hey, I have binders. So, you don't need to buy them, but I don't know if I have enough for every kid." So, I might end up taking those and putting them somewhere, like maybe in a bin up there. Just that's also going to be textbook storage if I end up getting a bunch. Um but those the kids the kids bring them. So, I have them in case someone decides that they're not going to bring that. Um I have some. Um and then this table's kind of a hodgepodge. I'm going to put once I do the bags, the chair bags, I'll put a clipboard in everybody's bag. That way they just have them and then I'll store the extras somewhere. This is all stuff that I'm going to try and give away. Just some really nice Star Wars borders. These are privacy folders, um, and then just some little knick-knacks, things that I don't need. Um, and then this is going to be where I start putting student supplies that need to be sorted and given out and labeled. Um, so I have a 30 pack of glue sticks to start the year. I have dry erase erasers. These are their home take home folders. Um, these need to be put out for the line. I don't know what I'm going to do with this, my tiny house. I need to save it, but I don't know where to put it. Um, and then this is also a project that a kiddo can do. Um, this I'm moving to where my phone is. Let's see. Try to do the chairs and the chair bags, and then we'll see where we're at. Okay, definitely recommend these. They're like a nice thick canvas, and they're sewn really well. They're very sturdy. I think putting what I plan to put in here is perfect. They also have a little name tag thing, so I will probably give the kids the opportunity to make their own name tags for their chair pockets. So that's cute. We're going to leave that right there. And how cute is this? I have a whole another pack of 12. Um, so if I do get more kiddos, I can just pull one out and put them over here, but I think leaving them off of this is a great way to just show that this is not a table where any students sit. It's just an extra table. And so it is so cute. I love this. Oh my gosh. Okay, I need to scoot this whole table back cuz it's not even. >> [sighs] >> So let's do that. And that only took me like 10 minutes, so awesome. Okay. >> Round round round >> All right, y'all. I think I'm going to call it quits for the day. This is what the room is looking like. We're down to one table. Well, two with projects on them. And I need to sort a few things out, but I feel really good about how it's turning out. Move that over there. I cut the cords on these lamps, so fingers crossed when the light bulbs come, they actually work. Um yeah, lots still left to do, but I'm feeling very good about what's been accomplished so far. I need to move these binders over there to my bookshelf, and then that way that will be empty for textbooks. And >> [sighs] >> yeah. Lots of little jobs left, but it's coming together. I had to order some squares, too, USB plugs for like this light and a couple other little things that need to be plugged in. But overall, it's looking cute.
