Classroom Set Up Day 2 | Setting Up My 4th Grade Teacher Desk Space
Watch on YouTubeVideo summary
The video documents the second day of setting up a fourth-grade classroom, with the teacher focusing primarily on organizing her personal workspace and addressing logistical challenges regarding furniture placement. She begins by discussing her outfit, promoting custom teacher apparel and glasses, before diving into the main task: determining the optimal location for her dual-monitor setup used for planning and grading. The room's layout is already established, but she needs to decide whether to keep extra desks for potential new students or repurpose them as flexible open space for struggling learners. Additionally, she considers getting rid of old, damaged IKEA tables that were originally necessary when she had no other furniture, opting instead to offer them to staff before discarding them.
A significant portion of the day involves experimenting with different configurations for her teacher's desk area to solve issues related to power outlets and visibility. Initially, she attempts a corner setup but finds it cluttered and problematic because the student computer lacks a nearby power source. After some deliberation, she decides to move a bookshelf under the window and shift her desk forward so that her workspace is hidden behind the television rather than facing directly into the room or toward the door. This new arrangement provides a more private environment for administrative tasks while keeping the area less cluttered. She also plans to raise the height of some desks with the help of janitors to better accommodate her legs and intends to consolidate supplies onto a single teaching cart once it arrives.
The latter part of the video showcases the arrival and assembly of a new supply organizer, which she uses to neatly categorize items like tape, scissors, glue, and markers, replacing disorganized floating tubs. With her workspace finally functional, she shifts her attention to decorating the walls, deciding to create a dedicated "birthday wall" and installing three bulletin boards for math, writing, and reading. Although she acknowledges that the walls are slightly uneven and will require creative border solutions, she makes progress on selecting patterns like sunflowers and scallops for each board. The day concludes with her reflecting on the productive work done with the help of visitors, noting that while she still needs to clean birthday pages and finalize wall borders, she feels satisfied with the significant progress made in organizing her classroom environment.

Good morning everyone and welcome back
to another Apples and Tiara's vlog.
Today is classroom setup day two. I'm
very excited to be here in my classroom.
If you guys watched yesterday's vlog,
then you saw all of the progress that we
made yesterday. I think we did really
good considering how many hours I was
here. Today is day two, so we have a lot
of work to do, but I first wanted to
talk you guys through my outfit. So,
first things first, I am kind of
obsessed with this company, this brand.
Um, so this t-shirt is from a company
called Teachers Graham. I will have the
shop linked directly down below. And
it's so freaking cute. The strawberries
fourth grade is my jam. The quality of
the t-shirt itself is so buttery soft.
This is a size small, just for
reference, so you guys can see how it
fits on me. Um, but Teachers Graham
makes tons and tons of customized
t-shirts. I'm going to be wearing a few
of their things throughout the rest of
this week. Um, but I just wanted to show
you guys how freaking cute is this. So,
I will have the link to the company as
well as a discount code for you guys
right at the top of the description box
below so you can check them out. How
freaking cute. You can get this t-shirt
customized too with your name on the
bottom, but I just opted for fourth
grade is my jam. Um, and I thought, how
cute with these little red uh this
little red skirt. Um, I have these
adorable pink and white checkered pants
that I want to wear with this shirt
around the first week of school. I
thought, how cute would that be? So,
anyway, I wanted to just quickly plug
that in here. And then my glasses are
from my favorite online glasses company,
Z Optical. I will also have them linked
down below, as well as a coupon code for
those. These are just so cute. They're
like rose gold. I learned my lesson
yesterday and I had to wear my I don't
know what these are called. My nose
my nose grippy glasses. I had to wear
them today because yesterday I was
running around sweating and they were
falling off my face. So yeah. So today
we are hard focused on organizing and
putting things away. The layout of the
room is pretty much dialed in. I do have
a couple of systems that I need to focus
on dialing in though, like my teacher
workspace. I really need to figure out
where I'm going to put my teacher
monitor because I do a lot of my
planning and grading using two monitors.
I just bounce back and forth from my
laptop to my big screen and I need to be
able to have a space to do that. So, I
need to dial in where I'm going to do
that. And then all of this furniture
that's right here in the center of the
room needs a home. um whether it's going
to go to storage or if I'm going to keep
a handful of desks for just in case
because I know throughout the year we
get so many new students. Last year I
know I got two throughout the school
year and lost one. Um so you just never
know. Right now I have enough space for
my 24 that are on my roster, but
guaranteed I will be getting one or two
new students throughout the school year.
So, I'm thinking I'm going to keep three
extra desks and create a little cluster
um just in case I get new students. And
if I don't get new students, I can use
it as just an open space for if a
kiddo's having a hard time, I can move
them there um or, you know, for
whatever. I can make it just an optional
workspace. This furniture right here,
these are my IKEA tables. I've had them
for years. They're completely trashed.
So, I'm actually pondering the idea of
completely chucking them and just
getting rid of them all together. Um,
because I feel like if I keep them, then
either a I'm going to want to use them
somewhere and I really don't need them.
Um, keep in mind when I purchased them,
I was in a classroom where there was no
furniture at all. I had no counter
space, no desks, like no teacher desks,
no little extra tables. So, I don't
really need them anymore. Um, so I'm
considering posting them on like I just
send a staff email and see if anybody
wants them first and then if nobody
wants them then I'm actually considering
like trashing them. Um, and then let me
just walk you guys around. I'm going to
flip you. I have a couple things that I
got in the mail last night that I want
to show you guys. First thing, I'm so
freaking stoked. Um, is this disco ball
and it comes with the lights.
So, it has a whole apparatus that it
comes with. Um, and so you just hang it.
I'm going to put it in the center of the
room. And it comes with a remote control
so you can turn it on. So, I like to do,
you know, fun flashy lights
a lot of time. A lot of the time. And
then I also purchased these rechargeable
wireless um not wireless, they're just
rechargeable uh light bulbs. Um and so
I'm going to I'm planning on snipping
the cords on a couple of my lamps. That
way I can use them over here where there
aren't any plugs. Um and that way I can
use more lamps throughout the room
because I do have quite a few. I have
two there and then I have two disco ball
lamps and then I have two other lamps,
but I just want to be able to use them
in more areas of the room. Um, but this
back wall is like the only wall that has
any electricity on it. Um, this wall has
one plug there and one plug over there.
And then this wall only has this plug.
So, um, if I can eliminate the need for
a plug um, for the lamps, that would be
great. It's also better firewise. So,
there's that. And then I ordered these.
These are just clear
um photo
keychains. And I plan on doing a cute
little project. I have one of these um
zinc printers. I thought, how cute to
take a picture with each kid at meet the
teacher night or the first day of school
and then give them that little keychain
with a handwritten note on the back that
says like, "I'm so glad you're in my
class." and then just give them the
keychains as like a welcome back to
school gift. I've never done a welcome
back to school gift before. Um I think
it's just because I've never had my own
class. Like in the last six years I
haven't had my own class. Um and so I'm
very excited to have my own class this
year.
All right, y'all. So I've been farting
around here for about 30ish minutes and
this is what I've come up with. I'm not
in love with it. I feel like it feels
cluttered and I'm not obsessed. Um, so
I'm gonna show it to you and then, um,
probably by the time you watch this,
I'll have changed it or I'll decided
that it's staying the same. So, um, I'm
also thinking about asking Chat GBT to
help me, [laughter]
the Chad. Okay, so this is what I did.
So, I put those two desks here and made
myself kind of like a corner. Um, the
thing about this that I don't like,
first of all,
I don't have anywhere to plug this
desktop into my computer. This is like
the dojo computer. When the kids take
and and get a point, they use this
computer. So, this is kind of like the
kids computer. When it was over there
last year, I would go to it for certain
things because I didn't want to have to
use my laptop. Um, but now that it's
over here, it's like right next to my
other computers. So, it seems kind of
like a moot point of having it other
than I don't want kids on my computer.
So, it's still, you know, going to
function the way it's supposed to. But,
there's nowhere to plug it in and I
don't want to use that power strip. But
I definitely need something about this
size to work at
when I don't have students in the room
um for like general admin stuff. So, I'm
trying to figure out where I can put it.
Um I don't want to continue to clutter
this corner though cuz this corner once
I have all this stuff put away, it's
really like I really like it. And I
think the problem that I'm running into
is I like absolutely need this, but I
don't want to face the window.
I don't know what to do. I have
some other ideas. So,
I could potentially move this bookshelf
over here under the window like I've had
it for years. And I can shimmy this desk
forward.
And then I can put these two desks over
there. And that way I have a space to go
work. It's hidden by the TV. I'm not
facing the wall. Like I'm my back's not
to the door and I'm kind of hidden over
there. So I'm thinking maybe that could
work because if I move this forward,
like even just like in line with the TV,
I can have my document camera. Then I
can turn around and have all of my
stuff. And then over in that corner is
where my work desk could be.
So, I'm pondering that idea. I'm
thinking that might work. Um, and I'm
thinking I might have the janitor raise
them so they're a little bit higher cuz
my legs don't fit under them right now.
So, I'm going to try that. All right.
So, I just moved everything around. I
still have room. I could pull this back
again so that there's more carpet space.
Um, but I think I like this way better.
I'm sort of kicking myself now that I
put this shelf up there instead of
centered on the wall, but I'm not going
to mess with it. I'm just going to leave
it alone. Um, but I like this a lot
because then I can sit here and I can do
my work and then
people who are looking for me will look
in and I they won't see me hiding behind
the TV and maybe they'll walk on by.
Okay, I like this better. It opens this
back up. Um, I just have to move a few
more things around obviously, but I
think I like this way better. It's way
less cluttered. And then I decided to
try this setup, which I like way better.
Um, so colored pencils will be on either
side in their perspective drawers, and
then all the other supplies will be
there. And then I'm thinking I might put
Mia's cage right here if it doesn't take
up too much space. Um, because I don't
have any furniture that's going to go
here. I'm going to try and leave this
empty and blank so that it's not
cluttered. All of this is going to be
taken away. Um, and then I also put a
desk in the hallway for
you know why. Um, so and then these
chairs are going away.
Um, so yeah, these are just carts that I
need to organize and put away, but it's
it's starting to come together. I also
put these three dark wood desks back
here. And I'm going to leave them here
as a tiny group in case I get any new
students.
And um what I can use it for is like an
extra workspace. Okay, I like that a
lot. I'm going to go ahead and I think
I'm going to have to take everything off
though when I ask the janitors to raise
them. I'm going to leave them alone for
now. Um, but I will probably have to
clear them off. And then I do have room
to store these crates over there, which
is great. Um, this is the first quarter
of
um, daily language morphology and
spelling copies. I did that before I
left for the year last year. So, I don't
have to worry about copying that. I did
we made copies for all three of us. So,
that is done, which is great. Okay. So,
I definitely have room to scoot this
back cuz I don't need that much walking
space. I'd rather have more carpet area.
So, I'm going to mess around with this
area over here and then show you guys
what it looks like when it's finished.
I'm trying to remember the last time I
checked in and what I showed you. But, I
did shimmy around and messed with this
area and now I absolutely love it. I
think it's perfect. Um, I did message my
administrative assistant to see if that
cart that I ordered is going to come. If
it does, it will fit perfectly either
right here or right here. Um, I'll
probably move this one and use it for
something else if it does come. And then
I can sort all of that supplies that's
in there and all the stuff that's on my
carts. What I need to do, I I mean, I
don't have to do it now, but I'm kind of
in the mood to do it, is I'm going to
organize these carts and consolidate to
one cart because I will have this one
cart be right here.
and it will be my teaching cart or I can
put it right here and that way I have
access to it from no matter which area.
But this is like the cart that like
houses all the things I need while I'm
teaching. And then the things in this
cart can go into that supply cabinet if
it does come. Uh because a lot of it is
just like random stuff. Like this ball
pump
is going to go in my recess bag
with my umbrella,
which if I'm taking an umbrella to
recess, we probably don't have it, but
I'm going to keep it here anyway. I
might actually hang a hook right here
and hang the umbrella there. That way,
it's just by the door. This is kind of
meaning it's weird. Um, but anyways, so
yeah, I'm kind of in the mood to sort
and organize carts. I don't want to do
any wall decorating until tomorrow or
Thursday once I get some of this stuff
organized. Um, so I think I'm going to
sit here and listen to music and just
organize the stuff that's on these
carts. And then, um, that way I can kind
of have my teaching space ready and can
continue organizing other areas of the
classroom.
All right,
my workspace is coming along. I got the
desk cleared off
and organized the cart. There's a lot of
empty space in there, which is great.
Um, I don't know if this will stay up
here. I kind of like it though because
last year it was just kind of like
cluttered. Um, so I kind of like that. I
don't know what I'll put in this drawer
yet. But, um, I'm going to leave it
there for whatever. Um, so I have
everything
that I think I will need minus like my
own crayons, my own markers. um that
will come.
Um so yeah, this is ready to go. And
then I do I did confirm that my um
organizer that looks like that one but
is more this style is coming. But what
I'm going to do is I'm going to organize
supplies into these drawers for now just
to get everything put somewhere. And
then when that new unit comes, I will
just move it all over. And then this I
still don't know what I'm going to use
for yet. I think maybe daily copies
sound good or like weekly copies. So
like um Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday,
Thursday, Friday and then I can fill
that with like other things that I need
constant copies of. Um so or I could do
like reading, math, science, writing,
language, and then just put a sticky
note between the days of the week. We'll
see. Um, but I'm I'm enjoying this area.
I feel good about it. Um, so and it it
really doesn't take up that much room.
Um,
so I think it's good. I think it's good
to go. All right, you guys. My little
organizer has arrived and I went ahead
and assembled it. So now we're going to
go put it where it goes and then I can
start organizing all my personal
supplies into this. I'm so freaking
excited. Just in time, too, because I
was starting to put it all in that. And
I'm glad I didn't actually finish
putting it all in that. Oh my gosh,
everything fit in there perfectly, minus
this stuff. So, top drawer, we're going
to do wide out. I'm sure I'll put more
in here. Uh, second drawer. I'm going to
have to go through this. This is like
command strips and command hooks. Then
we have hot glue and glue glue gone. And
then here we have various
objects,
uh, tape,
sticky stuff, adhesive and labels,
sticky notes and
flashcards, markers, staple stuff, and
tools and scissors.
Actually, I should move the scissors up
to the white out. White out and scissors
can go there.
Look how nice. It's so much better than
those little tubs
floating around everywhere. And now I
have these tubs for something else. I
don't know what I'm going to use them
for yet, but I will find something. Um,
I just have to put this in my science
cabinet along with the other tape and
stuff, but I love this. This is so good.
Okay, so now I can just
decorate the top.
Stupid. Okay. Yay. That makes me happy.

>> [music]
>> right, y'all. I have not checked in in
quite some time, and that is because I
had some visitors and helpers. Uh, but I
did finish this wall, and I decided to
turn it into the birthday wall rather
than it just being like a random
decorative wall. So, I still need to
clean and write all the birthdays and
hang those up. But that wall is done.
And then I started working on these
walls. Now, I know I said I like doing
walls with a clean room, but honestly, I
was kind of doing that thing where you
walk around in circles trying to figure
out what to do. So, I thought I know I
need to do walls, so I'm going to go
ahead and do them. So, anyway, I decided
to uh hang my three bulletin boards. And
I feel like they're pretty good space
apart. Um the middle board is going to
be math. This one will be writing,
obviously, and then that one will be
reading. And then in between each one I
can put some kind of
poster or you know picture or whatever
something. Um so yes, this wall is so
wonky. I'm going to have to get real
creative with the border. But um yeah, I
decided to go ahead and do three
different patterns um and three
different types of boards. Um,
so yeah, I am going to Let's see. It is
3:00 on pretty much the nose. So, I
think what I'm going to do is I have to
think through which borders I want to
put around each wall and then I think
I'll be done for the day. Uh, but I got
a lot done today. Um, I had a helper. He
was able to do the Chromebook cart uh
tags which look like this. They're so
cute. I love them. Um, and then he also
started cleaning my birthday
pages.
He helped me with the board. He took the
old board down.
Um, so yeah, very helpful. And then my
teammate was in here for a while and we
were just chatting and honestly I got so
much done because they were both in here
to talk to me. So that was super nice.
Okay. So, I'm thinking for the writing
wall,
I'm going to do a pink scalloped border.
Pink.
And then I'm thinking I'll do, let's
see,
sunflowers.
Uh, those kind of don't go. Or I have
retro flowers. I think those are cuter
together. Okay. So, I'll probably do
that. And then on the reading board,
maybe I will do
just sunflowers. And I have black
border, like plain black. Um I have like
this kind, like the scalloped one. I
also have gold.
And then I have a black one somewhere. I
don't know where I put it. Um I need to
get rid of these. These are like
old unused borders. Um,
but anyway, yeah, it's coming along. I'm
doing really bad on my water drinking. I
have not finished that yet, and normally
I drink two of those a day. So, yeah.
But I think I'm going to go ahead and
end today's vlog here. If you made it to
the end, thank you guys for watching.
