CHRISTIAN NØRGAARD SIGNS FOR EVERTON!

Welcome to Toffee TV. Everton have completed their fourth signing of the summer and it's not a right back change. >> Well, but it is a good a good signing and it's for me a position that we needed. Um not a priority list for people going we needed a right back. We do need a right back still, but Christian Nogard joining Everton from Arsenal for 7 million plus whatever bonuses or whatever, but a good player and like you said a position >> for me that Everton needed. Yeah, I think when we've done a few of these transfer videos, we spoke loads about, you know, everything in the midfield someone who's a bit more like defensive minded because you know most of them are box the box and I think if you look at sort of the players that have already lost and both Coleman and Jess you know the two massive leaders you know Coleman being the club captain and just sort of being the captain you know for like the foreign players who come in you know a big role model to them >> and so losing both of them you know that's massive in the dressing room and then you look at someone like Norard and you know people like Dean Rice despite not playing loads last season was like very vocal about how important he was to the dressing room and you know the speeches he gave to them when they dropped points against like walls and stuff and how I sort of spurred them on. So if you look at all them sort of combine them I think he's massive for Everton and I think you will get a lot of game time and do have a young midfield. So I think sort of listing all them attributes he's sort of a perfect fit for us for what we need and 7 million is basically nothing nowadays as well. I think I mean they're key points you're right losing Sheamus Coleman losing Zagana Gay two big characters around the football club [clears throat] and obviously the first preseason without Sheamus >> you know for a number of years you have to go back to 2009 I think might even be coming January so probably preseason of 2008 when Sheamus Coleman wasn't >> involved at Everton >> you look at it like that And you think that's huge going out Adisha Ghana gay has been over two spells you know >> has been involved at Everton for a number of years as well. Um so that is big and the other thing for me is we don't have a defensive six. James Garner probably can do that role but he does like getting having a bit more freedom to get up the pitch. I think even though James Garner was probably Everton standout player last season alongside Hall. Um, one of his better performances was Aston Villa away where he we almost played in like a flat three midfield and he was able to get everywhere around the pitch. Doesn't always want to just sit in front of the back four. >> Yeah. >> The way Norard will. Norard very much a defensive number six that will hopefully allow fullbacks to go a bit higher. Imagine. Um, so I do think he's very different than the profiles we've got. And you make a really good point. We have got young midfield players. We've got Harrison Armstrong who's 19. Merlin roll okay 23 24 but you into the relatively young in Premier League. >> Um you know we've got obviously Hayden Hackne who've never played in the Premier League in there as well. James Garner who's 24 obviously got experience now but still could learn maybe off Norard as well if that is going to be a position that he does want to go and fill for Everton. But even if that isn't a position, those midfielders are going to learn from an experienced international footballer. But a lad who's just been in a dressing room that has just won the league for Arsenal the first Premier League title for over 20 years. They got to a Champions League final. They got to a carabau final >> and he played 20 times in those games and you know was involved that way. So I think a player if ever would have bought him a year ago from Brenford people would have really been enthused by it's just the age I think people will go >> 32 though. M yeah I think that that's like the big one you sort of see online isn't it is the fact that he's 32 but then I think sort of the price justifies it in a sense that you know 7 million obviously 7 million is a lot of money but in football terms it's not and I think >> I don't know what contract he's signing but you'd imagine it's around two or three years wouldn't yeah I think that's ultimately what you will get out of him and I think you know people have argued that's just kicking the can down the road and eventually we're going to have to replace him but I think if you do look at like sort of the rest of the Evan team for the most part it's predominantly like a very young team you know you think sort of left back Michaleno and as you like as you know you saying that the fullbacks should go up he'll learn a lot of um no guards playing same with like Bright >> he had to get on the pitch first but yeah >> same like Bran O'Brien but then the midfielders and like the wingers and stuff and so he is that I don't know that sort of leader that I think Everton need a lot at the minute you know he can play center half which you know sure and >> yeah I think it's just all them qualities and age, of course, you'd like someone younger, but I think for right now where Evan do have a lot of positions like right back and like like on the wing and stuff where probably more attention needs to be given to them. Being able to get someone in who can come in for a year or two and do a solid job whilst you sort of think about that later on is is is a really good move and you know he's ready to come in right away and I think a few Everton signs last season weren't ready to come in right away and you know you only seen some of them towards the end of the season and it wasn't like we needed them at the start ultimately. So, he's a massive player for us. Yeah. >> I think [laughter] I think he could be a key signing actually in in a funny sort of way. >> Um that it will be understated. It'll go under the radar for a lot of people. Of course, it will, but very much like >> and again, I'm not saying he's as good as this player, but when Granite Shaka went to Sunderland last season, it was one of them as well. They bought Shaka. >> Okay. But he was key, absolutely key for everything they did last season. He had a fantastic season finished in Europe. He was key to that. So, Norgard, who knows? But I do think it's a good signing forever and it gives the manager options. Um, >> it's like Gareth Barry and stuff forever. Yeah, young to an extent was that >> with Gareth Barry coming people weren't enth weren't enthused by that and within a few games everyone knew how good a player he Gareth Barry was fantastic and again I'm not saying no guards at the same level as that but >> what I mean is that sort of was greeted similar when Barry came in was a bit like like why why aren't we getting younger players whatever um it gives Everton the opportunity to really identify the next one over the next 12 months, I think. And maybe that's a position that's number one next summer, >> maybe. Um cuz he was fantastic at Brenford. I know a lot of people look and go, he didn't play that much at Arsenal last season. I get that. >> Yeah. >> But he was he was training every day with them. He was in there. They they bought him for a reason from Brenford. They took him in. No shame in not being able to move Declan Rice, Subendy, people like that out the way. But, you know, we we'll have a little look at his numbers from his Brenford time because I think that's key to have a look when he's actually played games. So, we can have a look here, you know, his stats from his time at Brenford. So, you can see there when he left um Brenford went into the Premier League before he left for Arsenal. 122 Premier League games played, the most tackles attempted. He won the most tackles, won, got the most interceptions and was second for Jules one, you know, on 12 goals, 12 assists, and across the rating metrics, he was 7.3. So, you know, you he is a player who is he's good in possession. >> He doesn't play too many risky passes, but he just he's almost a bit of a meta known that >> not as much as I'd want it to be, as in he'll he'll get us going higher up the pitch as well, but he does keep things ticking over. Yeah, >> very good in both boxes as well. I think a really I think he might be the best for heading in the from a midfield player in defensive deals as well and winning second balls and stuff. So, we know he's he'll be good in both boxes as well. So, I think it's a sensible signing by Everton and you know Crystal Palace apparently were >> they thought they were going to get him and and Everton went in and he want he chose Everton. So, you know, I think it is a good signing overall. Yeah, I think if you what you were saying then about like the aerial stuff and that like that' be key for Everton obviously and um you know if you go back to our midfield video that we've done early in the window, we spoke a lot about you know what type what the ideal sort of player is that we'd need and we spoke like defensively and you know powerful but also like start attacks and stuff like that you know but from like a defensive position and I think you know he might not be like the flashy name or like the young upcoming player but I think he ticks all them boxes and >> it's just it is kicking the can down the road but I think a positive way of doing it because it's getting a essentially a first team player in who's going to massively benefit like the younger players around them and you know give James Garner a bit more freedom give like you know Merlin Ro a chance to play maybe in their like proper position so >> yeah I think it seems like an ideal signing for the price you can't really argue with it >> yeah I mean he's a he's a player who he's not going to be high on anyone's fatal list for for progressive runs with the ball and stuff Um but he is a player who likes he likes a defense splitting pass. That's what he tried to get you going with passing through the lines and stuff. Um and does his job effectively goes about know Thomas Frank was waxing lyrical about him. >> Yeah. >> Last year when he left for Arsenal Frank had gone to Tottenham he but he was talking about how important he is and such a just such a clever player as well positionally. >> Yeah. >> And Everton do need that. We do. We were exposed at times in front of that back four last season. You know, people might talk about the center back partnerships which exposed us. It did, >> but obviously we're hoping that Jared's available for most of the season. >> You know, we'd like to see Jake O'Brien given a go in there with him and try to build that that defensive partnership. But even if it's Sarosski and Brontweight, you still need that anchor in front of them. But if it is O'Brien and Brandweight then they're going to need that a little bit more just for the experience for because Brandwe's not as sorry Taki wouldn't be in the team then which means O'Brien would have to pick that up. >> Yeah. and you've got someone who's hugely experienced in front of him doing that role and it is I think someone pointed out it be around pegging around hole which Everton you know David Moyes isn't amazing at he normally likes to move people around and then it would make the midfield make up really interesting I think because if you've got someone sat in front of that back for patrolling >> you know sort of horizontally as well there then you can get pretty old or James Ker can go a bit high or Hayden Hackne then they've got that cover behind them so he can take a chance on getting forward with the ball. Harrison Armstrong will learn loads of off them. Now listen, he might not play every game. David Moyes might have different ideas to use them as and when, but I think it's it's one of them where you get to you get to bring a player in a position for a really really attractive price with loads of experience, physically good. >> Yeah. >> Played a lot of games for Brenford. um and gets the opportunity with those those sort of leadership qualities and his experience that he comes in and sometimes it just makes the squad better. And you'd like to think that the other lads in midfield would excel and push Christian out sometimes because the manager is like I I can't leave >> Harrison out today or I can't leave Merlin Roll out today or whatever that may be. Um that's what we want. We we could have and no I'm a great I I believe that Naboon is going to move on. I really do. I think there's there's enough interest around them. I think Evan will sell them because of the what's left on his contract. And I also think Charlie might go as well. >> But if them two did go, we'd still be left with six midfield players for those central areas. And that is they're really good options for the manager. >> Yeah, absolutely. I think, you know, it's sort of, >> you know, we've been doing our trans videos, we been talking about what this team needs. You know, you look at the midfield and >> it's probably our most like you've got the most depth anyway in midfield and >> a lot of like the sort of I don't know >> sort of the drawbacks of it was that the fact that they're all very similar profiles >> you know they all sort of box the boxes and you know is not out number 10 and he spoke about you know wanting to play a bit further back James Garner is not really a six he's more of like that box the box >> same with like an same with Hayden Hackne now and it's like they're all the same profile and I Having dam not dams guard having no guard. >> Well, we're going after dams guard to be >> funny. Having no guard in there [clears throat] allows them to play in their actual position which then means you know you make a bit of competition about it and you know they're all competing for them spots. But the most interesting thing that I thought about it was something that you was talking about saying how you know it might allow the fullbacks to get a bit further up. You know he can slot in there and you know you sort of go to a bit of a back three with the two center halfs. And I think for me a lot of last season it looked like you know and die or Greish or eventually you know George or D whoever would get the ball and you know they wouldn't have like the fullbacks overlap and it felt like a lot of the attack sort of died and it was easy to mark and die and Gish out >> but if the fullbacks were allowed to >> could be flying next to them. It gives them like a lot more like an attacking intent and a lot more like goals can be scored from it. And I think it's just that one simple sign and just unlocks loads. And you know if we do get Gish back and he does have someone I know it would be a lot but he hasn't been able to run past them and it's going to be Maleno but he has someone like then the same with Dian whoever whatever right back we end up signing >> then I think that unlocks the attack completely to a new level and we'll score you know way more goals and D will be to get more involved and same with Gish if he comes back. Yeah, I agree. Totally agree. And I think it's a really it's a clever signing by Everton and it's it will be for a lot of people like right go and get the priority which is the right back. Now >> obviously there's still a couple of positions people want strengthen and I think >> we need to make a decision on Jack Elish but might have already made it and said we're playing the long game because we think we'll get him late on in the window on loan but we need that wide player. If it isn't Jack I hope it's a different winger altogether. I hope it's a runner quick pacey player. Uh, and then another striker at the window comes towards a close. See what you can you can get maybe alone >> to help the other two out and you know all battle for it cuz I still I don't like us playing with two strikers in the squad. I think you need three. >> Yeah, >> I really do. Excuse me. I really do. I think one's not enough starting and only one on the bench. One on the bench and you get an injury.
