CFA Society Switzerland 30th Anniversary | Thirty Years. One Community. The Future Ahead.
Watch on YouTubeVideo summary
Thirty years ago, a small group of motivated volunteers in Zurich envisioned creating a professional community for investment professionals across Switzerland. Starting with just seven signatories and a founding team of pioneers, the society grew from its origins into one national organization unified by shared ethics, education, and a commitment to professional excellence. By the mid-2000s, this growth was evident as membership surpassed 1,000 individuals, allowing the group to unify their voice and firmly establish Switzerland within the global CFA community. A significant milestone occurred in 2006 when Zurich hosted the first annual conference of the CFA Institute outside North America, effectively bringing the entire global investment profession to the country for a landmark event.
As the society entered its next chapter, it expanded its capabilities by establishing professional leadership and opening a dedicated office in Zug. This period saw the development of a robust calendar featuring education sessions, networking opportunities, advocacy efforts, candidate support programs, and the launch of the Swiss Pensions Conference in Zurich. Members from across Switzerland's financial centers gathered to learn, debate ideas, mentor one another, celebrate achievements, and build lasting professional relationships that strengthened the local investment ecosystem. The organization also focused on nurturing future talent through university outreach initiatives, scholarships, specific candidate programs, and research challenges designed to open doors for aspiring professionals entering the field.
The society's dedication to excellence was recognized internationally with numerous accolades over the years, including an EMEA talks win in 2016, a CFA Institute Research Foundation Content Award in 2018, and victories by Swiss student teams in global research competitions. Just before the pandemic struck, Switzerland hosted the prestigious EMEA Regional Research Challenge where more than 500 students competed for the title of regional champion. When the pandemic disrupted everything, the society responded quickly by moving learning online while maintaining strong connections within the community to ensure continuity and support during challenging times.
Today, CFA Society Switzerland stands as one of the largest societies in the world, serving over 3,700 members and more than 2,200 candidates with the help of a volunteer force exceeding 300 individuals who organize more than 100 events annually across the country. In recognition of decades of volunteer energy, member commitment, and shared purpose, the society was named an Outstanding CFA Institute Society of the Year for the period spanning 2024 to 2025. Thirty years after that initial call for volunteers, the story continues with a community that is stronger, broader, and more connected than ever before as it looks toward the future ahead.
