Video summary
Carlos Rodón expressed his excitement about returning to the Yankees' rotation, emphasizing how rewarding it feels to contribute and compete alongside his teammates once again. Although he had been indicating for some time that he was ready to pitch, the official decision to bring him back came only a couple of days prior after the team evaluated their needs for the upcoming start. Rodón admitted that while they were initially considering another rehab start simply to manage his pitch count, the organization ultimately recognized a necessity for his presence, and he was glad to be available to fill that role effectively.
During the game, Rodón reflected on his performance, noting that while he felt confident in his stuff overall, there is always room for improvement regarding first-pitch strikes and filling the strike zone more efficiently. He acknowledged a specific challenge involving a second-inning walk where Austin Wells successfully challenged a call, a moment Rodón felt was crucial since the team was down to one out at the time. Despite the defensive error that led to the bases loading, he praised his teammates for supporting each other and highlighted how their collective effort helped keep the game close enough to secure a victory.
A significant highlight of the interview involved Rodón's admiration for Jazz Chisholm's impressive defensive play, specifically a difficult backhand grab followed by a strong throw across his body. Rodón described himself as a fan in that moment, expressing genuine awe at the quality of the play and noting how well he and Chisholm seemed to be on the same wavelength regarding such athletic feats. He credited Chisholm for picking him up after the earlier defensive miscue, reinforcing the strong bond and mutual respect within the team that allows them to bounce back quickly from mistakes.
Ultimately, Rodón concluded that the win was a great success for the squad, validating his return to the starting rotation under manager Matt Blake's guidance. The experience allowed him to demonstrate that he can compete at a high level while managing his workload carefully, proving that his health and readiness are sufficient for the demands of the major leagues. His positive outlook and focus on team unity suggest that he is eager to continue contributing to the Yankees' success in future starts.

Carlos, how amped up were you to just
get back out there again?
>> Yeah, I mean, it's good to be back just
to be able to contribute and compete
with the guys. It was fun, man. It was a
good win today.
>> Matt Blake told me before the game that
you've been telling them for a while you
were ready to get back out there. When
did they officially tell you and and how
did you quickly prepare?
>> Um, just a couple days ago. I think we
were trying to figure out what we were
going to do, you know, going into this
next start and uh we were on the fence
of, you know, going back to to make
another rehab start just to get the
pitch count out, but I guess up I'm
sorry. And but I guess it uh you know
there was a need and you know I was I
was glad I was available to fill that
need. So it was good
>> that second inning walk there was an
error bases loaded there and Austin
Wells challenges in that spot. Erin Boon
said maybe one of the best challenges of
this season just what's going through
your mind as he taps the helmet.
>> Yeah I mean I was confident it was a
strike. I mean it ended up barely
clipping. So it was a it was a great
challenge in this situation and it
worked out especially because we were
down to one. So but I was confident in
the challenge um and I'm glad he did.
So, we got out of the worked out.
>> What did you think of your stuff
tonight? Overall,
>> it was good. You know, um obviously I'd
like to to fill up the zone a little
more, you know, get ahead sooner and
just first pitch strikes a little
better, but um you know, I was able to
compete. Limited pitch count. You know,
defensively we're good. Obviously, you
know, tough play for Jazz getting
screened by the umpire and, you know,
that's our job is to to pick each other
up. You know, that he's picked me up
before. So, you know, I was happy to to
be able to and you know, keep the game
close and, you know, we ended up with a
win. So, it was great. What did you
think of that?
>> Yeah, it was a great play. I mean, to
his backhand in the hole. You guys are
on the same wavelength there. Um,
>> yeah, and the throw across his body was
impressive. It was a good play.
>> Seems like you turned afterwards.
>> Yeah, I mean, I was just impressed. I
don't think he I mean, I was just like,
you know, I was just impressed with the
play. So, just a a fan in the moment and
it was uh fun to watch.
