Video summary
Cam Schlittler delivered a dominant performance against the Colorado Rockies, recording ten strikeouts while maintaining a perfect walk-free night. He attributed his success to effectively establishing his fastball early in at-bats and relying on strong defensive support behind him. Schlittler emphasized that preventing free passes was crucial, as he prefers pitchers who put hitters up rather than allowing them to beat him with walks. This disciplined approach allowed him to navigate the opposing lineup with ease, showcasing his ability to control the game from the mound.
The return of Aaron Judge to the lineup generated significant excitement within the clubhouse and among the fans. Schlittler praised Judge not only as a great player but also as an exceptional teammate and captain who is expected to elevate the team's performance immediately. While the offense had performed well without him, Schlittler believes that having Judge back will only improve their standing, noting that things can always get better. The atmosphere around the team was electric upon his return, with everyone looking forward to seeing Judge perform at the high level he is known for.
Schlittler also reflected on his first full major league season regarding innings management and durability. He credited himself, the coaching staff, and trainers for helping him gradually build up his workload without stress, allowing him to surpass previous inning limits. By ramping up in minor league seasons and gaining experience each year, he feels well-positioned to finish strong and potentially take a spot on the postseason roster. Although he tries not to focus too much on specific opportunities like the Satchel Paige Award at this stage of the season, he remains confident that doing his job will create those chances naturally.
Looking ahead to September, Schlittler acknowledged the importance of upcoming series as the team still has a chance to win the division. He expressed confidence in the team's ability to continue their success now that Judge is back and expects them to go on a good run for the remainder of the season. The combination of his own pitching stability, the strong offensive support from his teammates, and the leadership of players like Judge sets the Yankees up for a promising finish. Schlittler remains focused on executing his role to put the team in winning positions, trusting that the momentum will carry them through the final stretch.

Kim, how were you able to navigate
through that lineup so effectively and
it seemed like at times with ease?
>> Yeah, again, they got a great lineup.
So, and just being able to establish the
fast ball,
>> um, get to my spots. Defense was great
behind me.
>> Look at the 10 strikeouts. Just how
proud are you of the fact that not only
were you getting the swing and miss, but
zero walks tonight?
>> Yeah, I think the walks is the biggest
thing. I know I've harped on that. Um, a
few outings just giving them free
passes. So, um, again, just rather them
put in play and beat me than kind of
just beat myself.
What's
>> it like just to have Aaron Judge back in
the lineup?
>> He's a great player, a great teammate,
great captain. So, um, it's exciting to
have him back and expect him to kind of
pick things up where he left off.
>> Cam, is there a little different feel
now that you're in September?
>> Yeah, I mean, we're getting close to it.
Um again, still got a chance to win the
division. So, a lot of important uh
series coming up and got to get through
this one first. So,
>> Cam, you guys have obviously been
winning without Aaron Judge. [music] So,
how much does it actually change things
to have him back and like where do you
notice the biggest difference when he's
here?
>> Yeah, again, I think you got to credit
the offense for the way they perform,
you know, with him out of the lineup.
Um, obviously only things can get
better. So, I think we're in a really
good spot and I expect him to to lift us
up.
>> When I spoke to Ramos on the field, he
said, "You deserve the the Sai Young." I
know you said you're not thinking about
that, but how do you not think about
that when you're at this point in time
of the season?
>> Yeah. Again, um Ramos with the the big
homer there to to kind of open it up.
So, um he had a great game.
>> Again, you asked me in three three
weeks, you know, I'll give you, you
know, my honest opinion. I feel like
again, just kind of pushing that to the
side and and focusing on these last
three weeks. But again, I feel like
It's been good so far. A lot of things
can happen in the next three starts,
four starts, whatever it is. So, just
confident if I go out there and do my
job, put this team in a position to win,
then that opportunity might be there.
It's
>> your first full major league season at a
at a point innings wise that you kind of
haven't seen before at this level. What
has allowed you to stay so strong
throughout?
>> Yeah, again, I feel great. um obviously
have surpassed that surpassed that uh
inning limit from last year and I just
credit [music] myself and and the staff
and the trainers for taking good care of
me. So um feel like I'm in a really good
spot to finish the season strong and and
take that into the postseason.
>> Is there anything that you're doing this
season different to stay strong than you
have in past seasons? Again,
I feel like the minor league seasons,
you know, I feel like I
>> ramped up the right way in terms of
>> reaching innings and and
kind of gaining innings each season at a
not stressful amount. I feel like I've
been able to gradually build up those
innings uh each season in the minor
leagues. And I feel like again, I'm in a
really good spot. I feel like I've been
able to take care of my stuff and and
relied on my teammates and and the staff
to kind of really push me through that.
>> You guys knew that Aaron was going to be
coming back soon. When you find out
that's going to be on a night you're
starting, does that make you extra
excited last night?
>> Yeah, I mean again like
things don't get out to the media. You
know, obviously I've had some good
conversation with him. I feel like that
was always the plan and I told him it
was going to be electric to to to have
him back, especially a day on pitching
is is a lot of fun. So feel like the
crowd gave him a the welcome he deserved
and again just expect him to kind of
take off from here.
>> What did that feel like around this
clubhouse knowing he was coming in he
was in that lineup today? What was the
feeling like around this team?
>> Yeah, again got to credit the offense
for for how they perform without him. Um
I mean he's our captain for a reason.
He's the best player in baseball and
it's a great feeling to have success
without him. And now hopefully we going
to go on a good run here with him in the
lineup and going to expect him to
perform the way we all, you know, expect
him
