Video summary

The video highlights a mixed bag of election results across the United States, characterized by significant progressive victories contrasted with unexpected losses in key races. On one hand, Democrats secured major wins in Minnesota and South Carolina, where Peggy Flanigan defeated incumbent Angie Craig by twenty points despite heavy spending against her, and Matt Little won his primary to take over a seat vacated by another Democrat seeking the Senate. These outcomes are presented as proof that progressive momentum is growing, with candidates like Flanigan supporting Medicare for All and opposing corporate influence in politics. Conversely, the narrative takes a sharp turn regarding Republican primaries, noting Lindsey Graham's sister advancing unopposed after being effectively handed the seat, while also mentioning bizarre scenarios such as Mike Lindell losing his primary despite Trump's endorsement and Royce White failing to win due to controversial behavior. The central focus of the analysis is the narrow loss suffered by Democratic socialist Francesca Hong in Wisconsin's gubernatorial race against establishment candidate David Crowley. Although polls suggested a landslide victory for Hong, with her leading by over twenty points before election day, she ultimately lost by fewer than three thousand votes as 94% of precincts reported results. The speaker attributes this upset to several factors, including an intense media campaign that questioned her electability and amplified old tweets about wanting to cancel Thanksgiving—a stance the host argues is a non-issue regarding national holidays but was weaponized against her. Additionally, the open primary nature of Wisconsin may have allowed some Republicans to cross over and support Crowley, while a notable lack of institutional backing from major figures like Bernie Sanders or AOC further hampered Hong's campaign compared to other progressive candidates who received such endorsements. In conclusion, despite this specific setback, the speaker emphasizes that these losses should not dampen morale given the broader context of numerous wins achieved by left-leaning and socialist-adjacent movements throughout the night. The video argues that voters are increasingly prioritizing economic messages over traditional partisan lines or manufactured scandals, noting even Republican commentators admit to fears about losing if they only run against something rather than for a positive platform. While acknowledging the need to address criticisms regarding messaging on issues like data centers and social media history, the overall message is one of resilience; progressives must learn from these defeats without letting them define their movement's trajectory as they continue to rack up significant victories in other districts nationwide.

Well, we had a bunch of different elections take place tonight. And there is a lot to talk about, so I'm not going to waste any time and just dive right into it. Tonight, I'm going to do something a little bit more unorthodox. And I'm going to talk about some Republican primaries, something that I usually don't care about, but tonight we had some interesting results. So, when it comes to the South Carolina race, well, Lindsey Graham's sister, Darlene Graham, has actually advanced to the runoff and is now on track to get a full term as a US senator. So, if you thought that you were done with Lindsey Graham, unfortunately, you're not because his sister, who sounds just like him, has now advanced and is probably going to get a full term. Wonderful. Wonderful. Now, if you ask her about criticism towards her because she was basically just handed the seat, well, she says she doesn't see it that way. She doesn't feel like she was handed the seat, even though she was literally handed this seat. Just I want to play this clip for you so you can hear what she sounds like because yes, it is just like Lindsey Graham. >> I don't see it that way. I'm not being handed that the seat. I realize that I have to earn voters. >> Lady, you were handed the [ __ ] seat. Just Just own it. Just own it. Why do you why do you have to do this [ __ ] disingenuous game? And you know, she goes on to say again that she wasn't handed the seed. And she even doubles down on the disingenuity and says something like, "Oh, I'm not trying to be a politician." Lady, you're a politician now. Why can't you disown it? I don't understand. Like, she is as insufferable as her brother thus far. I shouldn't say that. That's a little bit too mean. She's not as insufferable as her brother, but the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. We'll put it that way. But on the subject of political dynasties, well, guess what? Michael Alfonso, the son-in-law of Shawn Duffy, the current transportation secretary, won his primary in Wisconsin's seventh congressional district. So, the son-in-law of a former reality television show star turned politician is now able to run and win. I mean, we truly do not live in a meritocracy, folks. If you have money and notoriety, that's all it takes. Now, I'm going to say that and then contradict myself immediately because not always because Mike Lindell, the Trump endorsed My Pillow CEO, lost his Republican party primary. And for those who didn't know, he was running in Minnesota's gubernatorial race. And I am really thankful that he lost because this man has basically been experiencing a prolonged manic episode since Trump lost in 2020. And I'm glad that the Republican, who I'm assuming is less insane, advanced because I feel like when it comes to Republican insanity, he is peak Republican insanity. But on the subject of uh crazy people who are also [ __ ] well, former NBA player turned politician Royce White, who is pretending to be trans currently to join the WNBA to send a message about how trans athletes are bad even though there's none in the WNBA. Well, he got his cheeks clapped in the GOP primary for a US Senate seat in the state of Minnesota. So, it's nice to see these clowns lose their elections, I guess, to maybe cancel out the clowns that did win their elections. But let's get to the Democratic Party primaries that took place because I know that that's really what you're here for. Now, when it comes to Minnesota's second congressional district, here's where things get exciting because Matt Little won his primary in a [ __ ] landslide, which is really important because this is an individual who is a full Bernie Sanders style progressive. He supports Medicare for all. He calls it a genocide in Palestine. He wants to condition aid to Israel and he doesn't take any Apac money. And if you look at his platform, he checks all the boxes. Really big on getting money out of politics, boasts about how he doesn't take any corporate money, opposes data centers, just a really great member of Congress to have should he win the general election. Now, the news gets even better because he is taking over Angie Craig's seat. Angie Craig is a corporate Democrat and she vacated that seat that Matt Little just won because she wanted to run for the US Senate. Now, she was running against the progressive as well, Peggy Flanigan. This is an individual who is amazing. She was endorsed by AOC Bernie Sanders. She supports Medicare for all. She wants to condition aid to Israel. She along with Abdul Elsa would be phenomenal additions to the Senate. And guess what? She didn't just win. She blew Angie Craig the [ __ ] out despite all of the money that was being spent against her. I mean, just look at the results. She won by 20 points. That is absolutely unbelievable given how much money was spent to stop her from getting this victory. So really, really encouraging news and I think that we've already seen enough thus far tonight to conclude that the progressive momentum, the socialist socialist adjacent momentum is unquestionably continuing. But I'm not going to say we had the night that we were hoping for because there was one big gut punch much like last week where the progressive momentum continued, but a really good fighter, Cory Bush, did not win. But I'm of course talking about the Wisconsin gubernatorial Democratic primary featuring Franchesca Hong, a Democratic socialist, and she's running against David Crowley, who is an establishment procorporate Democrat. He's a [ __ ] clown. This is an individual who is uh not really saying he wants a moratorium on data centers. He's saying he has a nuanced position on data centers. We know what that means. And he's also talking about how Democrats don't have a monopoly on good ideas. We need to get input from independents and Republicans too. And if you're running in a Democratic primary and you say this, I just feel like that's disqualifying because what ideas do Republicans have that you agree with? because I don't think they have a single idea that they have that I would find even moderately reasonable. So, this is an individual who should not do well in a Democratic primary and he was projected to lose in a landslide. I mean, polls had um Franchesca Hung ahead of him by like 20 plus points. But when you go to the results, it's a completely different story. Now, at the time that I record this video, it has not yet been called, but with 94% of precincts reporting, she is less than half of a percentage point behind David Crowley. And they're separated by less than 3,000 votes. This is a very, very close race. And I hate to say it, but my gut is telling me that she's not going to be able to cross the finish line, unfortunately. But I want to talk about why I think she possibly lost. First and foremost, I think that she didn't get it done because there was a hyperfocus on this race. Unlike other races throughout the country, I think that the establishment really feared that since she was polling well, she was a foregone conclusion. So, they did their best to drive down support for her and engaged in what is effectively a gaslighting campaign about her electability. If you look at Tom Tiffany, the GOP nominee, I mean, the man has zero charisma. She would have destroyed him in debates in the general election. So, I think that she is indeed electable. The problem is that I think that there was enough doubt planted in the minds of voters about her to where they thought, okay, do I really want to risk it with this individual who is as crazy as the pundits are telling me? And I think that's really disappointing because I think that she could win. she could beat the governor if she were able to win. Now, there's a couple of other things that I think may have contributed to her loss. One is this is an open primary state. So, it's plausible that some Republicans may have crossed over to support David Crowley, the corporate Democrat, who would be weaker in the general election. I mean, we saw a little bit of evidence that this was happening in Michigan uh with Mike Rogers. you know, his voters were crossing over to support Haley Stevens, making it closer than it otherwise would have been. There's not a lot of evidence to validate this. It's just the theory, mostly conjecture, but just one possible explanation. On top of that, you know, there was not a lot of institutional support for Franchesca Hong, meaning Bernie Sanders, AOC, they just did not endorse her. And I cannot for the life of me figure out why. Now, I don't want to say that that sunk her because it was still very close in Abdul's race despite having the endorsements of AOC and Bernie, but it's possible that if they didn't endorse him and stump for him, maybe he wouldn't have been able to get across the finish line. So, had they given her that extra boost and did a couple of campaign events with her, I mean, maybe that would have helped. I actually don't know. It's really hard to say for sure, you know, at this early stage. Now, another thing that hurt her was the bizarre manufactured scandal around her old tweets, namely the one about her wanting to cancel Thanksgiving. Um, she called it a racist holiday and she's absolutely correct about it being a racist holiday and, you know, saying that she wants to cancel it in a halfserious way. I feel like that's that's not really a serious thing that people should should worry about. as the governor, you don't have the authority to literally cancel a [ __ ] national holiday. And even if she did do that, we could still all celebrate, you know, these holidays if we want to. So, it's a non-issue. But, you know, this is something that the media, they they saw like what they thought to be a weakness and they just kept picking at it and picking at it and eventually it turned into this giant [ __ ] festering wound. And, you know, she got knocked off of her feet because of it and really never regained her footing. she didn't have the best response to it. She kind of doubled down when she should just say, "Yes, you know, it's it's a very racist holiday, but we can ascribe different meaning to it." My my real goal, as Hassan, you know, Hassan recommended she say this is to make sure people can afford Thanksgiving. That's really what I want to focus on. So, she just was attacked relentlessly. I don't think any other candidate has faced the level of vitriel as Franchesca Hong. Both corporate Democrats, even Biden administration officials as well as Republicans, they tag teamed her. They beat the [ __ ] out of her day after day on mainstream media. And as much as we like to think that mainstream media doesn't have as much sway as they do, they still do. like their influence is waning to be clear, but they still are able to scare a lot of normies who maybe thought, "Hey, I like her policies, but I don't want to risk it. Maybe she's not electable. Maybe she's a little bit too extreme for me." I truly don't know what the answer is. I don't know why she didn't get it done, but it is uh it's very frustrating because I feel like this really was a no-brainer. They were given the option of a corporate Democrat who wants to build data centers and somebody who wants a moratorium on data centers and they said let's go with the guy who wants to build more data centers. That to me is mindboggling because I live in Oregon which is the state with the fifth most data centers in the entire country and they've just taken over the entire state. Finally, we bullied our governor into pausing some data centers. But I mean the damage has already been done. So, it's inconceivable to me that voters in other states would be like, "We want that, too." It's [ __ ] insane, actually. So, I mean, if the voters of Wisconsin are cool with data centers, that's fine. We'll just build them all in your backyards. If you want them, you could take them off of our hands. I mean, that's I'm more than happy to send our data centers over to you because these [ __ ] are not something that you want, which is why voters across the country who experience data centers in their backyards are voting against them in huge numbers regardless of their party affiliation. But the thing that really sucks is that Franchesca Hong had a really commanding lead because she was hyperfixated on these breadandbut issues. She talked about, you know, the things that are affecting Americans, affordability. She ran a very mom Donnieesque campaign. But just because you're able to speak to these issues that voters care about doesn't necessarily mean you're going to be able to play defense effectively because that is the position that she was less successful at. She just couldn't figure out a way to respond when all these old tweets got dug up. And I mean this is just the things that she talks about in my opinion are non-issues. A lot of the things she talked about are she she described racial inequality in accurate terms, but terms that Americans might not necessarily be cool with because defund the police, as we all know, is politically toxic, even though it is the objectively correct position to have. Um, so it is frustrating and we do have to find different ways to message with regard to that. But just like a word of advice, if you are a leftist or a socialist and you plan on running for Congress, delete all of your social media accounts, just like clean house before you run or at least delete all of your old tweets because it doesn't matter how innocuous it is, it will be used against you. If there's no scandal, they will find some kind of a scandal, you know. And for Franchesca Hong, they tried to describe her as somebody who was like a crazy person. When if you listen to her speak, very reasonable. Same with Abdul Elsa. Although for him, they leaned more in on the Islamophobia and made it seem like he was a secret jihadist. So, there's going to be different lines of attack that they're going to lob at these progressive candidates and we have to find ways to anticipate their attacks and insulate ourselves from them as much as we can because you wouldn't necessarily think that a tweet about Thanksgiving would have an impact. And I don't know for sure if it did, but the fact that they had a [ __ ] [ __ ] storm over a [ __ ] Thanksgiving tweet, it just shows you how unserious American politics is. If that is something that actually sincerely swayed voters, those voters have been lobbomized by capitalism. Like you are a dumb [ __ ] if you wanted to vote for Franchesca Hong and you were like, "Oh, I'm not going to do that because of the Thanksgiving tweet." You are a [ __ ] idiot if that actually swayed you. Because again, this is about what these candidates are going to do for you. You have one corporate Democrat saying, "I'm going to do [ __ ] all for you." And another saying, "Here's all the lovely things that I want to do for you." So, if you're saying I don't think we should have nice things because this candidate like was a little bit too woke in 2020 and 2021, then I don't know what to tell you. Like, you shouldn't vote probably because I don't think that you're able to make a competent decision at at the ballot box. I'm sorry. Like, that might sound a little bit crude, but like it's kind of the truth, right? So many voters, they go into this not knowing who the [ __ ] they're voting for, not bothering to do any research, and they just read the headlines and they think, "Oh, well, this person is crazy. Franchesca Hung is crazy because CNN said so." And then they vote for the other person. It's just embarrassing. But again, like I'm kind of talking out of my ass because we don't have any definitive proof that that was the main cause. We don't have much data yet. Again, this is mere conjecture on my part. I'm a little bit gutted and deflated that she presumably lost. Having said that though, I am not going to let this depress me because there were still some really significant victories that we had tonight. And you know, as hard as it is to digest the news about Franchesca Hung, I mean, we are racking up the [ __ ] wins. And regardless of how, you know, effective this electability argument is going forward, you have to understand that even a Republicans know that they are at risk of losing if they are only against something and they're not for anything. And I have a video going up about this where Fox News hosts admit that the socialist candidates can actually win because if you have a really compelling economic message and Republicans don't and they're just running against you and not for anything, well, we could see the same thing that happened with Democrats and Donald Trump where they were just against Trump and didn't really have their own platform that they were running affirmatively for and it wasn't enough. So, you know, we'll see. I I think that we need to try to dissect this particular outcome as much as we can and figure out what went wrong and learn for it, but don't let it get you down because we are getting so many victories. I honestly did not expect Peggy Flanigan to pull off that dub. In fact, I was I really was expecting her to lose and Franchesca Hong to be the one to win. But, I mean, it just goes to show you that we are a solid movement that is growing, but we're not going to win every single race. There will be some setbacks and we can't just like bury our heads in the sand and you know dismiss some of the criticisms of these candidates. I think we need to take them into consideration and try to find better ways to respond to them. Yes, I personally think you are a dumb [ __ ] if a Thanksgiving tweet swayed you, but I think that that doesn't mean we shouldn't find a way to address these kinds of things should they come up in the future. because if you're a leftist or a progressive or a socialist, odds are you're going to say things that they're going to use against you, right? So, we have to find a way to address that. So, that's all I've got to say. Um, good night overall. That's that's my final thoughts. Good night overall, but we didn't get everything we wanted tonight. So, keep fighting either way. Hey. Hey. Hey. [music]
