Video summary

On the night of August 13, 2026, the Zambian police executed a joint operation in the Kabulonga area of Lusaka following tips from vigilant members of the public to apprehend suspected militia members and persons of interest. These individuals had been under surveillance for several years, with increased focus in recent months, due to their alleged connections to military plans involving foreign nationals and the establishment of illegal military camps that posed a serious threat to state security. During the raid, officers discovered high-grade military weapons, ammunition, and other materials intended for use in armed insurrection at the premises, leading to the seizure of restricted arms and the arrest of those found on site. The operation was marked by significant resistance, as occupants of the property fired shots at law enforcement agencies, resulting in an exchange of gunfire while some suspects managed to flee with their whereabouts currently known. Among those apprehended were senior members of certain political parties in Zambia, highlighting the alleged intersection between political figures and militia activities. Of the eleven individuals taken into custody from the scene, all are currently held in lawful custody at various police stations in Lusaka pending further investigation into the criminal charges they face. The arrested group includes prominent names such as Mr. George Samga, Dr. Bishop Trevor Mwamba, Mr. Simon Pirie, Mr. Richard Banda, Mr. Francis Malenga, and Mr. Patrick Mwansa, whose families and legal representatives have been granted access to them. Notably, the investigation also uncovered the presence of Mr. Ban Mundubile, a presidential candidate for the NRUP party, at the location during the operation. This development suggests a broader involvement of political leadership in the suspected militia activities, raising serious questions about the extent of the conspiracy and its implications for national stability. Authorities have confirmed that all suspects have been formally charged, and the government assures the public that investigations are ongoing with updates to be provided as more information becomes available. The incident underscores the severity of the threat posed by organized militia groups linked to foreign interests and illegal military infrastructure within Zambia. As the nation awaits further developments, the police emphasize their commitment to maintaining state security and bringing all involved parties to justice through lawful processes.
