>> Aaron, you took Aaron Judge out of this
one early with some tightness in his
lower leg. When did he first tell you
that he was feeling something?
>> Uh I was aware I made aware of it kind
of right before he came out. Um
So, he felt a little something after the
first inning.
Um
and then I
whenever I was I took him out. Um that's
when I made aware was made aware of it
and and just didn't want to push through
anything and you know, hopefully it's
something we we're able to catch.
>> Did he tell you how he did it? Was it in
the field? At the plate?
>> He said it after, you know, after he hit
and went out in the field, he you know,
just felt tight.
>> And is it his calf or where exactly?
>> Lower leg, yeah.
>> Is he going to be going for testing?
>> Uh I don't know. He'll get treatment and
stuff. Obviously, he already has had a
lot of treatment and treatment tomorrow,
and then we'll see what we got.
>> Aaron, understanding how important he is
to to your team, just what's your level
of concern knowing that you guys just
have about a week and a half left?
>> Yeah, we'll just uh obviously, he's he's
uh you know, a key figure to what we do.
Hopefully, we
you know, get it treated and and knock
it out and be a factor at some point.
>> Based on what you know right now, do you
expect that he'll need to miss games?
>> I don't know. We'll see. We have an off
day tomorrow, obviously, and
so, I'm not going to speculate one way
or the other. We'll just see how he how
he responds.
>> He was hobbling a bit on that play where
Lombard threw home in the fifth right
before he came out. Did you notice that
from the dugout?
>> I noticed that a little bit.
Um
That's right right around when I was
made aware of it, yeah.
>> So, this wasn't on your radar at all
before today?
What do you make of what happened in
extra innings today with all the
What do you make of the extra innings
with the sudden death?
>> Uh obviously, a lot of good things, um
but
not enough good things, you know. Um we
had couple of really good chances, you
know, bases loaded there, no outs, we're
not able to to get anything out of it um
after they turned a nice double play. We
turned it, you know, a couple really
nice double plays as well. I thought did
some good things to get out of some
sticky situations.
Um
you know, couple big hits in the early
couple innings that, you know, we we
couldn't make stand up, so
um you know, tough one obviously when
you got a chance to sweep and heading
into an off day, but um you know, we got
to get over that and and and get ready
for for for a good Diamondback club.
>> Overall, what did
>> I was going to say the only and the only
play um that Jorge had there was the
charge. Was that one in your mind?
>> I think so. I I mean, you can lay back
and knock it down, it's first and third,
but
he got to make, you know, he's going to
make the play. I think
the hit softly like it was and when it
hit the mound and kind of bounces up, it
turns into a do or die
Um
you know, one he expects to make and we
know he can make. Um but obviously tough
one.
>> Renato's velocity was noticeably down
especially the first three innings then
he picked back up a little. What do you
make of that and did he make any
adjustments to kind of find that?
>> Yeah, um
yeah, I I don't think he necessarily had
his best stuff today, obviously. Um
but he had he had he could reach back in
the tank. I thought he got into a pretty
good rhythm there in the middle innings.
Settled in and, you know, all in all
ends up going, you know, two runs
through six innings, sign us up, you
know, we got to we got to take advantage
of that. So, on a day where maybe he
didn't have his best stuff,
um not his best strike throwing
necessarily,
I don't think he ended up walking a ton
of guys either though, so, you know, I
thought he did a really good job and and
gave us a chance to win a ballgame.
>> Any worries there with the velocity?
>> No.
>> And your first look at Clark, what did
you think?
>> Yeah, I thought he I thought he good I
thought he was good. I thought he looked
pretty settled, actually. You know, a
couple soft hits that he gave up.
Um
probably not perfectly executed, but
gets a big strikeout to get the second
out to keep him there, and then and then
Hendricks is able to come and finish off
that inning. But, I thought overall
looked pretty sharp, um and didn't look
sped up or or overwhelmed at all, you
know? Like, I'm sure there's, you know,
it's tight ballgame there. Your first
game in over a year, and you know, I'm
sure there's some
some emotions there, and I thought he I
thought he handled all that pretty well.
Um hopefully, as he goes now, he'll get
a little sharper.
Yeah, change speeds pretty well, you
know, he he he was
his changeup at the bottom of the zone,
he did a good job with that. Mixed in
his breaking stuff.
You know, was up and down with his
fastball.
You know, I I You know, I thought we had
some chances against him. I thought we
squared some balls up early against him,
but once he got into a little rhythm, he
kind of shut us down, and we just, you
know, didn't mount enough against him
today, frankly.
>> Can't forget the huge hit by Volpe in
the in the ninth. I mean, after some of
the, you know, ups and downs that he's
had, what does it say to you that he's
able to pull through in a situation like
that?
>> Yeah, it was great at bat, uh obviously.
Um you know, he's capable of really
driving the ball the other way like
that. Uh he controlled the at bat, got a
really good pitch to hit, and and smoked
it. So, uh he's done a good job.
Um
you know, I thought he had good at bats
today, and really really the entire
series. Um so, we've got to keep that
rolling.
