Video summary
The Bluegrass Gives 2026 Getting Started Webinar introduces Lauren Parsons and Emily from Mighty Cause, guiding organizations through their migration to the new platform while outlining essential details for Giving Day on December 1st. Registration is currently open until September 4th, with early giving beginning November 24th; participants must ensure they are verified 501(c)(3) nonprofits or fiscally sponsored entities located within Bluegrass Community Foundation service areas and holding a Gold Seal of Transparency or higher. The registration process involves creating an account via bgs.org using existing credentials if applicable, completing the necessary forms, and finishing all items in the platform's to-do list to achieve approval status, with Electronic Funds Transfer setup being mandatory for receiving donations.
Once approved, organizations can utilize the customizable organization page as a central hub featuring banners, logos, media galleries, donation trackers, peer-to-peer fundraisers, events, volunteer opportunities, and matching grants. The platform offers robust fundraising tools that allow supporters to create mini-fundraising pages while managing offline donation imports between November 24th and December 15th, noting that these gifts count toward overall totals but not for matches or prizes due to tax regulations regarding tangible goods. Administrators can customize checkout forms with suggested amounts and custom questions, set up direct donate links, and configure thank-you pages with calls to action like newsletter signups, while the reports tab provides real-time data on donations, recurring gifts, retention metrics, and disbursement details that can be customized or downloaded as CSV files.
To maximize revenue potential during Giving Day, organizations are encouraged to secure sponsors for matching grants where the platform handles calculations for various thresholds such as 1:1 ratios or cumulative amounts. A follow-up webinar scheduled for September 13th at 11:00 a.m. will delve deeper into strategies for peer-to-peer fundraising and managing these matches, with live attendance recommended to ask immediate questions though recordings will be available afterward. Participants must register by the September 4th deadline to avoid an additional $300 fee rather than paying the standard rate, while also learning about new free text-to-give capabilities that previously required extra purchases.
For ongoing assistance, technical support is accessible via email from Monday through Friday between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Eastern time, alongside resources found on the Nonprofit Toolkit page and FAQs hosted on bgs.org. Administrators have full control over settings including unique URLs, alternate search names, social sharing preferences, legal information, and admin access levels to ensure their digital presence is optimized for success. In cases where an organization becomes unclaimed due to email changes or other issues, support@mightycause.com serves as the direct contact point for recovery, ensuring that all registered entities remain connected and prepared for a successful fundraising season.

Hi everyone, welcome. We'll give folks
about two or three more minutes as
they're trickling in. Um, if you want to
put your name and the name of your
organization in the chat, we would love
to see who's joining us today.
Hi Marty, welcome.
All right, as folks continue to come in,
um we're letting folks join for one or
two more minutes just to make sure
everybody has a chance. Um, if you want
to put your name and the name of your
organization in the chat so we can see
who's joining us, that would be great. I
know we're in webinar format today, so
we can't see everyone's lovely smiling
faces, but um, everybody can see that
chat. So, go ahead and throw that in
there.
This is exciting. We have a lot of lot
of good groups in the chat. Seen a lot
of familiar
names and organizations. So,
I can go ahead and introduce myself. I'm
Lauren Parsons. I'm with Bluegrass
Community Foundation. I'm the VP of
communications and I get to work on
Bluegrass Gives every year. Actually,
it's a year-round fun project that we
work on. And we are on a new giving
platform this year. we have migrated
over to Mighty Cause and so that's why
we are here today with Emily who is our
project manager for Mighty Cause and she
is going to share a lot of really
helpful information that will get you
familiar with the platform and ready for
a great campaign this year.
>> Yes. All right. Well, we can jump in and
get started. Um, so yes, hello everyone.
My name is Emily. I'm the project
manager with Mighty Cause, which is the
software fundraising platform that
Bluegrass Gives is going to be hosted on
this year. Um, it's so great to see so
much representation from different
nonprofits around your region. Um, and
before we get started, I wanted to go
over a couple of housekeeping items. So,
today's webinar will be recorded and
it'll be posted on the Bluegrass Gives
website in the next couple of days by
the end of the week. So if you um want
to rewatch or if you have anyone on your
team who's not able to join today, they
will have that as a resource. Um in
addition, uh we will have time for
questions at the end of this webinar. So
we'll have about 45 minutes of
presentation today where I'll go over um
registration as well as a platform
walkthrough to help make sure that you
know how to navigate the platform since
it's new this year. Um and then the last
15 minutes or so will be for Q&A. But if
you have any burning questions and you
don't want to forget them, um, feel free
to throw those into the chat and we'll
either answer them right on the spot or
come back to them in the Q&A portion.
Okay, with that, I will get started. And
since I have a couple different
monitors, I'm going to turn off my
camera.
Okay, so here's a look at today's
agenda. We'll be going over some giving
day basics which will include walking
through how to customize your
organization page, how to edit your
pages and some other functionalities and
then we'll review some friendly
reminders because I know I'm going to be
throwing a lot of content over at you
and then we'll finish up with that Q&A.
Okay. So, as far as giving day basics,
for those of you who have not
participated before, a giving day itself
is an online fundraising marathon that
aims to bring people together to support
a specific community, cause or space.
The giving day host, in this case,
Bluegrass Community Foundation,
organizes the event and rallies
organizations to raise funds for their
causes. Participating nonprofits will
utilize the resources provided by that
host to reach out to their supporters to
solicit donations, secure fundraisers,
and work on growing their networks. This
annual online giving day is a really
powerful call to action, and Bluegrass
Gives encourages our neighbors to invest
in the local nonprofits that make its
community thrive. So, the Bluegrass
Gives team believes in sparking and
growing local philanthropy. So by
powering this bluegrass gives giving
day, the bluegrass community foundation
pro really does provide a vital platform
that not only raises unrestricted funds
for hundreds of organizations but also
builds their long-term sustainability
and encourages deeper civic engagement
across the region.
Okay, so now that we've covered like at
a high level why bluegrass gives is
important, let's go into details for
this next giving event. So in 2026,
registration will is open right now and
will close September 4th. So if you
haven't registered yet, we encourage you
to do so as soon as possible. And then
early giving will begin November 24th.
So early giving is the period where
donors can u make gifts, but the actual
giving day itself will be Tuesday,
December 1st from 6:00 a.m. to 11:59
p.m.
Um, so again, I'll just emphasize that
we encourage you to register now so your
organization has ample time to build
your page, which we'll go into during
the platform walkthrough. Um, and just
make sure that you feel comfortable with
the platform.
Okay, so let's cover a couple of the
requirements to participate. So,
organizations must be verified 501c3
charitable nonprofits or fiscally
sponsored by an organization that is a
501c3 in good standing with the IRS.
Organizations also must be physically
located in one of the Bluegrass
Community Foundation service areas
that's pictured here. and organizations
must be registered to solicit funds with
the K Kentucky attorney general. So if
you have any questions about that, we
have ample information on the Bluegrass
Gives website.
Um
lastly, organizations must be recognized
on GlideStar with a gold seal of
transparency or higher. So if you meet
all of these criteria, you just have to
register and complete the whole
registration process.
Um, so right now we already have 62
organizations fully registered and ready
to participate, which is fantastic. If
you have not gotten on that list of 62
orgs yet, make sure you do. So, let's go
through the platform walkthrough next.
So, we're going to switch gears a little
bit.
I'll stop sharing this screen and move
over to our platform itself.
All
right, there we go. So, um, let's go
through the registration process.
If you have not yet registered, here's
the process for doing so. It is a
two-part process. You'll start out here
on the Bluegrass Gives website. So,
bgs.org
and then in the top right hand corner,
I'm already logged in, but you'll click
log in. Um, and at that point, you'll be
prompted to create a password. You'll
click forgot password the first time
that you log in. And if you were already
an administrator for your organization
previously, you will automatically be an
admin for your organization on Mighty
Cause as long as you use the same email.
So, the email is really important. um if
you're using a separate one, it will not
make the link between you being an admin
previously.
So,
um you'll start out here pretty much
every time that you log into your site.
Now that I am logged in, I can click on
my name and see all of the different
organizations that I'm managing. I can
click on um Mighty Cause Foundation, for
instance, and say I did that. Then it'll
take me to the organization page.
So once you're on the organization page,
it'll plop you into this overview
section where at the top it'll show you
your registration status and it'll also
give you these helpful prompts um to
help navigate the platform for those
first couple of uses.
So at the top you can see that this
organization which is a test
organization. So any information you see
on here is um false. Um you can see that
your organization setup is incomplete
and you have to see the to-do list. So
the first um step to completing
registration is getting access to the
platform completing this to-do list
which is here
um in the top leftand corner and you
have to have a blue check mark by all of
these items. So you can see that this
organization has completed the
organization page because of that blue
check mark and they've completed the
thank you page, but they still need to
complete EFT setup. So if you have
questions about what that EFT setup is,
you can click on that item that's
underlined and it'll take you directly
to where you need to set that up.
So, um, EFT, while we're on the subject,
is very important because, um, that's
how your donations that are made through
the mighty cause platform are going to
be distributed to your organization.
So, we do require EFT setup, which is
direct deposit rather than check by
mail. So, you can just ignore that
because it's required for registration.
The second part to registering, if we go
back to this Bluegrass Gibbs website, is
clicking the register here. So, we have
a couple details about registration on
this page. And if you scroll down,
you can fill out the registration form.
So, um you will type in your
organization name or EIN. In this case,
I'll just click Mighty Cause Foundation
so we can see a sample. and it'll take
you to this registration form which is
required to be submitted um in order to
participate in the giving day. So,
you'll have to complete this as the
first step, this registration form as
well as that to-do list that we
mentioned um in the top left. That'll
all have to be complete. And if you have
questions about your registration
status, you can go back to that overview
page which is navigated um to on the
left.
And then up here in the top, if you are
approved, um it'll say that. So if you
have any questions about your
registration status, go to the overview
page and it'll direct you to what you
still need to complete.
Okay, so enough about the registration
process itself. Now, let's do a
walkthrough of the organization page.
So the organization page is really the
hub of your activity for Bluegrass
Gives. So each organization will have a
page like this with a customizable
banner at the top and a customizable um
logo.
So this is where you're going to be
directing supporters.
If we toggle on edit mode in the top
right hand corner, you can see that that
turns blue, the little toggle, and then
you can go through and make edits.
Um, if you have the edit mode toggled
off, that previews what any supporter
that visits this page is going to be
able to see. So, if we toggle that edit
mode on,
um, we can go through and edit. So,
this really is the face of your
organization. So, we want to make sure
that you're, um, making sure that this
is detail oriented. If you go look at
this top link, this is what you're going
to be sharing out to supporters. Um, so
you can direct supporters back to this
page and make donations for Bluegrass
Gives.
And as I mentioned, the to-do list also
helps you walk through editing this
organization page. So, we can go through
and change your theme colors, your logo.
Um, you can upload media to your
gallery. You can also edit this text
with our inline text editor.
um as well as adding images, links, and
videos. So, customize this to share
about your mission, um any success
stories that your organization has
recently had, etc.
As we scroll through, you can see that
this organization page has call to
action buttons, um, a nice video, as
well as featured campaigns,
um, which are peer-to-peer fundraisers
and giving activity. So, you have the
option to have this giving activity live
donation tracker, which will show the
donor name as well as donation amount.
And um we'll go to the checkout form and
you can see how you can make those
anonymous and how donors can make
anonymous gifts as well. As we scroll to
the bottom, you can see this media
gallery and any active matching grants
which we'll also get to as well.
Um these are opportunities. So, we'll
talk about that more in depth, but these
are events like um in-person events or
volunteer opportunities for your
supporters that you can post here on the
site as well.
Okay, so let's go back up here.
Okay,
so if we look here on the left, um this
is our navigating panel. So, we have the
different tabs for overview,
organization page, and let's jump to
fundraising tools. So, within the
fundraising tools section, you'll be
able to review any peer-to-peer
fundraisers that have been created for
your organization.
Um, these are like basically mini
fundraising pages that organization or
sorry that your supporters like board
members or volunteers can create on your
organization's behalf. and um help fund
raise on your behalf. So, all donations
made through this page will go directly
to your organization and we try to make
that as easy as possible to create which
we'll get to a little bit later.
On this fundraising tools page, you can
also see those opportunities. So, again,
those opportunities could be for
volunteering or just an in-person event
that you're inviting the public to. So,
for instance, like a 5K or um dog yoga,
a dog yoga fundraiser.
So, you'll also see matching grants,
which we'll go into depth later, but
these are opportunities for sponsors to
match the gifts that your supporters are
already making.
Okay. So, below that, we'll close
fundraising tools and go to reports. Um,
and we're just going to do a highle
overview now and then go back in detail
um, through all of these different
features. So, in the reports tab, we can
see that we have a donations report. Um,
and this donations report has all of the
gifts made to your organization page in
real time. We also have a reoccurring
donations report, a retention report to
see who's given in the past and given
again, and a dispersement report to see
um all of the gifts made to your
organization page and how they've been
distributed to your organization's bank
account.
Um so a quick overview of checkout. You
can customize your donation form here
where donors will go to make their
gifts. You can also look at the thank
you page that will automatically show
when someone makes a gift and the
receipt which will be automatically
emailed to the donor um when they make a
gift
along with the official receipt
including tax information.
Um, and then under settings, you're able
to manage URL customization,
um, alternate search names for your
organization, if there are nicknames
that the public calls your organization.
Um, you can manage social sharing as
well as administrative control.
Okay.
So now let's go into depth through these
features.
Okay.
Um so first
let's start with fundraising tools.
So going back to fundraising tools
um talking a little bit more about
campaigns. I just want to highlight that
we are going to be having another
webinar on September 13th um
specifically on peer-to-peer fundraisers
and how to strategize surrounding them,
how to set up the pages, etc. So make
sure that you're registered for that
webinar. Um, registration is on the
website and I'm sure Lauren will follow
up with a registration um, link as well.
Um, okay. So, if we go next to
reports, I want to focus on this quite a
bit for this webinar. So, as you can
see, you can access all of these
different reports. Um, but if we go into
the donations report in a little bit
more depth in real time, you can see
information like donor name, email,
donation amount, and you'll also be able
to see which page each donor donated on,
which is really nice, and you could use
that to strategize around.
Um, please note that as soon as you go
into this donations report, it is always
going to default to the last 30 days.
So, you'll usually need to update this
time period up here at the top um to
show the information with the date range
that you're looking for. I'll also
highlight that if you have participated
in bluegrass gives um
you can just adjust um
oh sorry if you have participated in the
past we also did import information from
your last giving day platform. So you
can uh make a custom report for like
2025
um and look at that information. So I'm
not sure if we have that information in
here right now for our test site, but
let's try it. Okay, so if you enter in a
date range of 2025, you can also look at
gifts that were made last year on the
platform. Um, but I'll just note that
the donation report tops out at um, one
year. So, if you want to pull a report,
for instance, of all of 2025 gifts and
2026 gifts, you will have to pull two
separate reports and then compare those
um, that data.
Um, okay. But we have a preview of this
information on this donations report
page. And then you can also download
this for a more comprehensive CV CSV
file. So you can download this up here
at the top with the download button and
that will provide you with a lot more
information than is showed here. This
will provide you all of the information
that's gathered on the checkout form
which we'll talk about in a little bit.
But if you have any custom questions um
and are looking for the answers to
those, you'll just have to download this
report to get that information.
Okay, so now looking at dispersements.
Okay, so the dispersement section of
your report shows which donations were
included in a dispersement to your bank.
um as well as a summary of the total
amount, the total associated fees and
the net amount included in that
dispersement. So all donations that are
on the site that are processed by the
mighty cause foundation which is a donor
advised fund will be shown here. So your
organization can sign up and is required
to sign up for that electronic fund
transfer or EFT which is the recommended
method. Um, anyway, because there are a
couple downsides with checks. So, a
couple other noteworthy points. Admins
will receive emails when a donation is
made, and you can update that in your
account settings, which is down here.
Um, and then let's talk about a couple
different nuances with offline
donations.
So, if your organization um is going to
off import an offline donation, you can
do that here in the donations report.
Um, and then click off add offline
donation up here in the top right. But I
will note that offline donations do not
count for matches or prizes. Um, but
they do count for the overall total of
the event.
And organizations are allowed to enter
those offline donations between November
24th when early giving opens all the way
through December 15th.
Um, and I will just note that offline
donations are subject to audit. So,
please be sure to like double and triple
check all the information as you add
those offline gifts.
All right, so now let's go to checkout.
I'll close these tabs. So, if we go to
the donation form, this is again the
checkout flow that donors will
experience when they make a donation to
your organization. So, this is really
important to make sure that it's
detailed and um reflects
um your organization actively and in a
positive light. So, you can get you can
set up custom suggested donation amounts
like you see here with descriptions to
help tie those amounts to items or
services that your organization
provides. So, as you can see here, um,
an example might include that $10 would
pay one month of flee and tick
prevention medicine for the Black Cat
Society. So, descriptions like these can
help strengthen your appeal to donate to
donors. Um, giving the dollars a
tangible effect.
Um, but I will say that all of the money
gathered through these uh, donation
forms and through Mighty Cause is
unrestricted. So these are just
descriptions of what that money could go
towards um just to make it more tangible
for donors, but it is all unrestricted.
So within the donation form, Mighty
Cause automatically collects email and
physical address for donors and you can
also add up to two custom questions to
collect additional information if you
would like. So to do that you can just
click add a section
and then new section and then add the
question or prompt as well as answer
options. After that you would just click
save and publish. So this could include
um questions to gather data about donors
such as like are you interested in
volunteering? So based on that
information, once donors complete that,
if they say they are yes, interested in
volunteer opportunities, you could email
a segment of all of those donors that
answered in that specific way with
upcoming volunteer opportunities
um just to make the donation process and
the relationship building more
personalized.
Uh just keep in mind that you won't want
to make the donation form too long as it
deters supporters from completing it.
So, we do want to make sure um that it's
not too cumbersome.
And similarly to the organization page
up here at the top of the checkout form,
um you can click edit mode. So, this is
already in edit mode because this is
blue and toggled on. But with that, you
can go in and click on all of these
different pencil icons to make edits and
then click save.
So, we like to think that this is pretty
intuitive as you go through. Um, if you
see something that looks clickable, it
probably is. And then it'll give you
more information about what is needed.
Um,
and if you want to preview what that
donation form is going to look like for
donors, you can toggle off edit mode um,
and scroll through without all of those
editing icons.
You can also copy a direct donation link
if you think that would be helpful. So
if someone um is asking like I want to
make a donation and maybe they're
getting a little bit confused being
directed to the organization page, you
can copy this link just by clicking this
um copy direct donate link in the top
right and then send them that link. So
they're taken directly to this form.
All right. So now let's talk about the
thank you page.
So
this section is found under checkout on
the left and you can add text to this
links, videos,
um anything that you would like because
this is going to show up right after
someone makes a new gift. You can also
add a call to action or CTA button down
here at the top. For instance, to view
our page to tell donors where you want
them to go next. So, um, for example,
you could also use this to direct donors
to subscribe to your newsletter if you
have one or sign up for a volunteer
shift or register for an upcoming event.
And if you would like to preview this
page, um, you can do that in the top
right, view this page.
So, this shows you without any of those
editing icons what it will look like for
supporters.
You can also customize your
organization's donation receipt. So,
we'll click that under checkout on the
left. This will automatically be emailed
to a donor after they make a gift above
the taxdeductible donation receipt. So,
if you'd like to test this out, um
again, it has similar editing
capabilities with this inline text
editor. You can just go in um
and start typing and then click save.
And then you can also add links etc.
So if you want to send that test
receipt, you can click this send test
receipt in the top right. Um enter the
email address that you want the test
sent to and then click send. So that'll
show you exactly um what it will look
like in your email inbox. But you also
get this preview over here on the right
side as well.
Okay. Um, so I am just going to check
the chat really quick to see if there
are any
um pressing questions that are relevant
right now.
Okay, here we go. So,
okay. So, you are able to update your
email address on your Mighty Cause
account. So, if you're talking about
specifically your administrative email,
um you'll go here to settings and then
admins and it will show you all of the
active admins.
So, um, if someone has access to your
administrative side of things of your
organization page, which is shown here,
they can go in and edit the email. Just
click these three dots on the right hand
side and then click edit.
Um,
and then if no one has access to your
organization page, you'll have to write
into support.com
and claim your organization basically.
So you can do that by going to um
Bluegrass Gives. So if we start out on
this homepage, go to register here,
scroll down and instead of um typing in
your organization name
um
you can click create it now and then
that will give you information um to
enter so you can claim your
organization.
Okay. And then we'll answer probably one
more of these and then keep the rest for
the Q&A. But the next one, what
constitutes an offline donation? That's
a great question. So offline donations
are considered um cash that you receive
or checks. Um so those will be entered
into the site manually. And then all
other donations should be able to be
entered by the donor um through the
checkout form which we'll get to in a
second.
Okay. So, let's go to Dominique's
question in the Q&A. Um we'll start back
up there, but I think those are kind of
bigger questions that we'll go back to
answering.
Okay.
So, now let's talk about matching
grants.
Matching grants can be found. Oh, we're
on the fundraiser page. I'll exit out of
that. So, once you're here on the
organization page, organization
dashboard, you can go to fundraising
tools over here on the left and then
click matching grants.
And as I'm sure many of you know, having
a matching grant can go a really long
way in driving donations because a
matching grant is something your
organization secures and sets up on your
own. um with a sponsor's help. So, as
you can see, this organization has one
matching grant active right now
um up here at the top under live matches
and then they have a handful of past
matches.
So, what this looks like on the front
end of things and what supporters will
see is that on the organization page on
this donate button, you can see that
there's one match live. So, if someone
um you know doesn't know what that mean
or has means or has questions about that
match, they can click on that tile and
it'll take them down to the information
for any live matches. So, this is a
really nice helpful tool on that
organization page that you as an
organization could like screenshot this
information about the match and then
post it on social media or email it to
supporters or something to that effect
so that they know that in this case if
they donate $100 there's a onetoone
match. So, this matching grant will
donate $100 as well for a total impact
of $200. So, going back to the match and
grants tool, what it looks like on the
back end of the organization dashboard.
Um, a lot of matches are onetoone. So,
that's what this one is. It's 100% per
donation. Let's go into what it would
look like to create a new match. So,
again, a lot of one:1 matches are
common. So, if someone gives $5, their
donation is matched by $5
for a total impact of $10. But our
matching grant tool also has the
capabilities to match two 2:1 so 200% or
3 one um etc. The the world is your
oyster. But if you wanted to do a 2:1
match, that means that if someone
donated $10, the match would donate $20
for a total impact of $30.
Um,
so basically our matching grants tool
does the match or does the math for you.
So all you have to do is choose how you
want to structure it here on the back
end. As you create a new match, you can
type in the name of the sponsor, the
match value. So if you have a $1,000
match, you could type that in here.
um the title, an image,
um as well as the specific date and time
that you want the match to start and end
at.
Um okay, so going down here to the
different types of matches, you can also
match a percentage. So that's the one:1
match. Um and you can choose a maximum
dollar amount per donation to be
matched. So, if for instance, your
organization is very very lucky and gets
a lot of $1,000 matches and you have a
$2,000 match, but you don't want that
match to be, you know, eaten up by all
of those $1,000 gifts really really
fast, you could say that only $10 of
each pe each person's gift is going to
be matched. So, that's totally up to you
if you want to strategize around that.
You also have the option instead of
doing a percentage match for instance
like a onetoone match you could do a
cumulative threshold match.
So that means that once your
organization has basically crowdfunded
let's say for instance $1,000
um
that total
of the match um once it's unlocked when
$1,000 has been crowdfunded will be
unlocked. So once you've crowdfunded
$1,000, that match will be unlocked and
added to your organization's total.
Um, you can also add a couple more match
conditions, which are optional, but
could be used to strategize as well. So
you can set a minimum per donation
amount before the match is applied. So,
for instance, if your organization gets
a lot of $10 donations and you want to
encourage
uh donors to give a little bit more, you
could set the minimum donation amount at
$15. So, only gifts uh with a minimum
value of $15 will be matched just to get
that little bit of increase um from
donors. And then you can um you will
need to uncheck this include offline
donations because we will not be
including offline donations and matches.
Um
and then you have the option to include
organization fundraisers in the match.
So those organization fundraisers are
the peer-to-peer fundraisers which we'll
talk about a lot more in our next
webinar.
You can also have the option to apply
the match once per donor. um
if you think that would be helpful.
Lastly, uh this email section is where
you would type in the email of the
person you want notified when the match
is completed.
Um, so once like if you have a $1,000
match, once $1,000 has been crowdfunded,
um, this person, preferably someone on
your staff, would be emailed, um, so
that you know and that you don't have
to, you know, keep staring at your
organization page all day to keep track
of when exactly it's going to be
matched. So with that, you could be
notified and then post on social media
or share with your supporters that, hey,
we did it. we fulfilled our whole entire
match.
Um, you also have the option to email
your um, matching grant sponsor
directly. So, if your matching grant
sponsor wants to know exactly when that
match has been fulfilled, you can type
in their email here. But we would
recommend that you um just default to
entering an email address of someone on
your staff team. Um and then from there
going and emailing the matching grant
sponsor directly.
So once you have that you can click
create match and then they will populate
here on this page.
Okay. So,
I know I threw a lot of of information
at you about matches, but keep in mind
that again, this is your first year on
the platform, so we really encourage you
to keep it simple this year. Um, unless
you're, you know, really gung-ho about
everything and have have had matching
grances a matching grants a couple of
times, um, the easiest thing to do is
just set up a onetoone match. Uh that
way it's easier to communicate to donors
that you know your match will be double
or sorry your donation will be doubled
um and it's easier to set up in the
platform as well. And you can also get
creative with it. So, if you have
multiple board members, for instance,
that are willing to chip in um like $100
each, if you have five board members,
you could have a $500 match. And that
would still be a really great way to
drive more donations because if a donor
sees that their money, even if they're
donating um $10, is going to be doubled,
um they'll know that their money is
going further. They'll be able to, you
know, feel better about that and know
that their gift is making a difference.
Okay.
So, the last section that we're going to
talk a little bit about is settings. So,
um I mentioned this a little bit with
admins, but if you click on settings,
you can go in and update your um your
URL. So, I would encourage you to do
that. So, if you go to excuse me,
settings and then general settings up
here at the top, we have the URL
customization section and in this custom
URL box, you can type in whatever you
want the end of your your URL to be. So,
we would encourage you to make that
something um fairly simple. Uh but
sometimes Mighty Cause defaults to
making this a string of letters um and
numbers. So, I would encourage you to
double check that to see what your the
end of your URL is. Um, and then click
save. And just know that we only allow
um URLs to be unique. So, if anyone else
any other organization on the Mighty
Cause platform has the same URL that
you're trying to use, it will not let
you save it. So, you might have to alter
it a little bit. But, um, if it's saved
and you can come back here and see that
it's updated, uh, that will be saved
forever until you change it. So,
um, you can also go in here and update
your alternate search names, which I
mentioned earlier. So, like for Black
Cat Society, if you sometimes use the
acronym BCS, you could type this in as
an alternate search name, so it makes it
easier for folks to find you. You can
also update your social sharing
um, and your organization info. If we go
over to that tab on the left, you can
update your address and legal
information and check that that's all up
to date.
Okay. So, let's go to questions.
Well,
I'll I'll talk about support resources
first and then we'll switch over to
questions. So before we finish up, um I
do want to again flag that our next
webinar that's going to be going in more
depth about peer-to-peer fundraising and
matching grants is going to be on
September 13th. Um we'll do a deeper
dive on both of those features because
um they're they can get pretty in-depth
and we want to make sure that you feel
comfortable with them and use them to
the best of your ability.
Um okay, so that concludes the platform
webinar portion. So, I will stop sharing
this screen and go back to our
PowerPoint
for a couple resources to share.
Okay. So, if you have any questions
throughout the registration,
preparation, or giving day process, know
that you really do have a team of people
ready to help. Um, you can find readily
available trainings and marketing
material on the Bluegrass Gives
nonprofit toolkit page. And for
technical questions about the Mighty
Cause platform, um, you can reach out to
support mightycaus.com via email.
They're available year round, Monday
through Friday, 9:00 a.m. uh to 5:00 p
p.m. Eastern.
Um and then for all other inquiries, you
can check on the frequently asked
questions page of Bluegrass Gives site.
Um or if you have very very specific
questions about the event, you can reach
out to Lauren.
Okay, let's talk questions. Let me pull
up the chat.
Okay. So, we're starting with
Dominique's question and I will turn
back on my camera.
Okay. So, if a person pledges to mail
you a check offline, can you include
this in the total even if it comes in
after the event? So, you can only Well,
I might let Lauren um answer this one
just because we have the offline gift
entry process open from November 24th
through December 15th. Um what do you
think about this? If they have a pledge
from someone that they can really count
on, um they know the money is coming.
What do you think?
Um, I would say I mean this is kind of
the first year that we're offering this
even so we're kind of like maybe
learning to fly,
you know, what is the phrase with the
wheels? I don't know. You know what I
mean? We're figuring out as we go. Um,
but I would say if it comes within that
time frame, that's okay. That that um
time frame that Emily just mentioned.
Can you repeat that?
>> Yeah, November 24th when early giving
opens to December 15th. So remember the
giving day itself is December 1st. Um so
we are giving some leeway like about two
weeks after that giving event. So we I
think that's plenty of time to make sure
that it's received. I know the post
office is can be a little unreliable. So
we totally understand that. But just
make sure you're communicating with
donors if they're planning on sending in
a check um or just pledging an offline
gift in general to get it in within
those windows so it can count for
bluegrass gives.
Okay. Um can you explain how monthly
giving works outside of the giving day?
Yeah, I'm happy to do that. So after the
giving day itself, we are going to be
leaving on gifts. Um, so donors still
can make gifts through the website. Um,
and you can update your organization
page a little bit, but you'll be sharing
that same link. But monthly donors uh
can just go to the checkout form and
then as we have like a one-time gift
option, they can switch over to the tab
here. I'll share my screen that says
monthly gifts and those will
automatically be processed. um once a
month as long as credit card information
is up to date. So, let me open that up.
Okay, so once you're on the checkout
form, um it does default to onetime
donation just because we don't want
anyone making a monthly gift on
accident. But if you just click this
monthly donation portion, it switches
you over to that. Um, so instead of
making a $10 onetime donation, donors
could make a $10 monthly donation. And
if they're entering um credit card
information, their credit card will just
automatically be charged once a month.
Um, and they can go in and update that
at any time. So if they change credit
cards or if they want to cancel it for
any reason, they can go in and do that.
But um we have seen a lot of success
with other giving days and other
organizations making um a lot of revenue
that's a lot more reliable throughout
the year because you can count on even
just $10 a month from one donor. So uh
we do highly encourage that and we'll
talk a little bit more about how we can
try to incentivize monthly donors in our
next webinar as well.
Um, okay.
So, yes, the receipt is automatically
emailed to whichever email that a donor
um enters into the checkout flow.
So, yes, you asked um Ben
if um the donor's name is automatically
pulled. Yes. So, as you're setting up
that donation receipt, you can also use
um like what are they called? Custom
fields.
Excuse me.
Custom fields. So, um if you want to say
thank you like donor first name, you
have the option to do that. And like you
donated x amount, you have the option to
do that.
so you can make it a little bit more
personalized.
And then at the bottom of that thank you
uh email that's sent out automatically
is the donation receipt with all tax
information. So um you should not be
sending donors like additional tax
information um because we already sent
it. And if any donor says they, you
know, can't find the email in their
inbox, it went to spam or what have you,
um you can go in and resend that email
so they have the information. So, I know
especially before tax season, you might
get a lot of those questions. Um, you
can go in and do that.
Okay. So,
Emily, just real quick, sometimes
um donors will like mistype their email
address maybe in that checkout field.
Are the nonprofits able to go in and
like resend that receipt to a different
email? Does that make sense?
>> Yep.
>> Okay. Yes, they're able to do that and
update the email for the donor and then
the donor is also able to go in and do
that as well. Um, I would encourage you
if you have questions about that to
write into support because they can help
walk you through that. Um, we also have
I believe we have an FAQ on that on the
website as well. And if we don't, I'll
add it. Um,
>> thank you.
>> I would say that's the biggest cause of
donors not getting a receipt is either
it's in their spam or they mistype their
email address. So,
>> Okay. Thank you. Um, so Tommy asked,
"Are we able to run reports if we have
multiple sponsors who have set times to
determine what those doubled amounts
look like per sponsor?"
Um, okay. Let me read that question
again.
I think you're talking about multiple
sponsors for multiple matching grants,
which you can have multiple matching
grants um running at the same time if
that is your question.
Um, so to do that, you would just
schedule two matching grants to run at
the same time. You can have different
criteria with that. Um,
you would have to set up set it up in a
certain way so that like they wouldn't
be double counted like gifts wouldn't be
double matched. So I I might encourage
you to set up cued matches which again
we'll talk about in our next webinar.
But just at a high level, you can set up
one match and then another one can be
like triggered once the first match is
completed. So that might be a better way
if you have multiple matching grant
sponsors, which is a fantastic, you
know, problem to have. Um, uh, you can
set those up in such a way that they'll
be sequential instead of running at the
same time. If you do want them running
at the same time, that's also possible,
but maybe write into support or um
Lauren and I can reach out and make sure
they're set up correctly just so they're
running properly and um you don't have
any issues.
Um, but as for running reports, you can
see in the donations report, um, you
know, which gifts were matched,
um, and it'll show which which matching
grant sponsor or which matching grant it
was matched by as well.
Um,
yes, this presentation will be recorded
and it'll be posted on the website uh in
the next couple of days by the end of
the week. And we do have a lot of
resources such as like support articles
and stuff on these specific topics that
we've covered as well um on the website.
So make sure to check out all the
resources available because there's
quite a bit.
Um okay, do we have to add our nonprofit
tax info into the donor receipt section
or will it pull from the organization
page? That will already pull. So, um
yeah, don't worry about the tax
information on the portion of the
receipt cuz that's autogenerated um by
Mighty Cause using all the legal
information that we've, you know, pulled
from the IRS to verify your organization
as well as what you've also confirmed
with your EFT setup.
Um, how do we create campaigns?
So,
Rose, you might need to clarify for me.
So, with campaign, do you mean a
peer-to-peer fundraiser?
And if so, we're going to go Okay. So,
we're going to go in depth to that um
and on September 13th just because it's
so expansive um and there are a handful
of steps with that. But if you want to
get started and start poking around the
tool, you can go to fundraising tools
campaigns and click create new campaign.
Um, but in our next webinar, we'll talk
about that in depth about how to create
a template to help um to help
fundraisers, the people creating
peer-to-peer fundraisers make those,
help standardize them, and help make it
a little bit easier. So, if you can hold
off until then, um, yeah, that'll be
great. Okay, perfect. And that webinar
will also be recorded. So, if you're not
able to attend, um, which we highly
encourage you to do in case you have
real-time questions since this is all
new, but that will be recorded as well
and posted.
Okay, we have a couple more minutes
left. Are there any other questions or
any questions that I answered but you
want more clarification on?
Okay. Well, I'll just continue plugging
our next webinar
um because yeah, we'll focus a lot on
peer-to-peer fundraisers as well as
matching grants because those are
probably two of the most robust tools
that are available to you all um and can
help drive revenue the most, which of
course is all of our goals. So, we'll
have that upcoming. And um I will just
go back to our friendly reminders really
quick.
if I can find that tab.
Okay. So, as a reminder, offline gifts,
which are checks or cash, um are
allowed, but there are some stipulations
with that, like um they're not going to
count for prizes or matches, but they
will count towards overall totals.
Also, um, as you're creating your
fundraising strategy, remember that you
cannot give donors tangible goods or
services in exchange for them donating.
So, we can't offer, um, raffle prizes or
anything to that effect because of how
the gifts are being processed through
Mighty Cause Charitable Foundation,
which is um, a donor advised fund. So,
there are some tax regulations and um,
if we see that, we will flag it and
you'll have to take it down. So, just be
cognizant of that and save the date for
September 13th at 11:00 a.m.
Okay. And then Lauren answered in the
chat, but someone asked, should Give 828
Lexington show up on the platform if the
organization is registered. So, yes,
it's on the community page if anyone is
participating in that. Um, and then
going over text to give, that is also
going to be covered in our next webinar
just because we're short on time today.
Um, but there are a few new well
a few features that were available for
extra purchase and now are available for
free for all of you. So, we have a lot
of content to cover and if we're not
able to fit that into the next webinar,
we'll cover it in in another one. Um,
but I will make sure that the website
with the nonprofit toolkit has
information on text to give in case
anyone wants to get that going a little
bit early.
Okay.
Well, thank you so much for joining us.
We really appreciate it. Um, if you
haven't registered, remember you have to
do that by September 4th or you'll have
um a $300 fee instead of $250.
So, um, make sure to get that finished.
All right. Well, thank you all. Um, we
appreciate your questions and
engagement.
Thank you.
