I have more than 70 red light therapy devices in my home right now. And even though a panel is my typical go-to device, there is a red light therapy device that I've been using for a very long time. And even though it's old and rather basic, I love it. And it is this, the Rouge G4 Nano. It's uh like I said, rather basic. It's also quite old. Honestly, in a world where everything has an app and everything has a giant LCD screen to flick through menus, there's something about this that just calms the mind, calms the soul. It is nice. But it's still not perfect. Like any device, there is no perfect device. So, um let me explain why I like this and why this product that has been around for years is still used by me and my family a couple times a week, travels all around the world, and uh is one of my go-to top red light therapy device recommendations. Products were provided to me free of charge, and all opinions are my own. This is not medical advice. Okay, so the Rouge G4 Nano has 12 LEDs. You can see them all here. Each of these LEDs actually has two chips. It's dual chip. So, I can turn it on. You can see the red, the near infrared, red. But, I can alternate through the modes. At the moment, near infrared is running. Now, all red. Now, both. So, even though there are 12 LEDs, theoretically, there are 24 LED chips. The device is, of course, battery-powered. It's portable, charged through a USB-C plug at the bottom. There is a small screen on the front. It shows you the time remaining in a session. There is an on-off power button and then a mode button. That mode button changes whether you're getting the red and the near infrared, just the near infrared, or of course the red. On the back, you have a power level indicator. So, at the moment, this is needing to charge. It's flashing on the 25%. When you look around the device, there are some air vents on the side, and that's really about it. Now, it's also a perfectly solid state device. There are no fans or moving parts, and the battery life is 5,000 hours. So, this should really last a lifetime. Size-wise, it's 5.9 in tall, 3 in across, and 1.2 in thick. I have an iPhone Pro here. You can see they are very similar in terms of height and width. But, of course, the thickness is very different. So, this is pretty much the size of an iPhone Pro. Regarding the thickness, it's small enough and light enough that you can easily hold it with one hand, and you can easily treat anywhere on your body with one hand without fatigue. I like it. You can kind of see why this is a nice device, right? Now, when it comes to wavelengths and power output, Rouge claim it is emitting 660 red and 850 near infrared. I actually have an integrating sphere. It's just arrived. I'm playing around with it. So, let me put it in there, and we'll see what is being emitted. All right. So, as you can see on screen, we have two peaks. The near infrared is peaking at 850.9. So, that's that's what we want to see. And the red peak here is about 662. From a total radiant flux point of view, you're getting just under 3 W of optical light emitted from this device. Pretty cool, huh? Now, I also use my spectrometer to determine the irradiance figure from this device in both dual mode with red and near infrared at 6 in. I took 10 different readings across the face of the device and the average was 15 milliwatts over centimeters squared. Now 5 years ago 5 years ago it's crazy. I did a best handheld device comparison video. I'll put a link to it. It's had about 30 40,000 views. It is quite old and I'm going to do a new one in early 2027. I'm I'd like to do it sooner but I'm also doing a best mask of 2026 and a best red light therapy panel of 2026 and a stand review. So be sure to hit subscribe. Now what I was saying is back in 2021 when I did my last comparison, I tested a bunch of devices like this but I actually looked at the peak power rating and that's what I scored off. Now that's flawed. I realize that now because a peak you might have one really strong hot point but everything around it is really really weak. So it's not an accurate way. An average is obviously a lot more usable and I say that in case you go back and watch that video and you see the peak readings are in the 30s and you think well this is underpowered in 15s. No, it's not. Different ways of scoring. Still 15 milliwatts at 6 in from a handheld device that's literally 5 or 6 years old is very very good. What does this mean? I mean you can use this on your face on your skin, sunburn, wherever it may be. It's a small device. You can sit it there on your desk or your makeup stand or whatever and you're going to get adequate light at that 6 in mark. 12 in not so much. You want to be up around that 20 milliwatts figure. The cool thing is you can move it closer and that intensity is going to be a lot higher, which is what I do. This is great for traveling, but again, face treatment, perfect, but you can use it to target problematic areas. Let's say you have tweaked your elbow in the gym, push it right up against the the the body, the the problematic area, do a 5-10 minute session, you're getting a good dose. Likewise, all over your body. It's great for travel. It's a great all-purpose device because of how powerful it is. You see, there are a lot of portable devices, similar size, similar price point, however, they are lacking power. So, you're only getting 10-12 mW if you're applied against the skin. This is putting out 15 6 in from the skin. So, it's pretty good. Now, I should also mention because there's no moving parts in this, there is zero EMF and zero sound. Most people probably not worried about it, but you could use this in a library for instance, there's no background whir, and if you're EMF sensitive, another good plus. You could actually travel with this, you just turn it on. You could even use this say on an airplane at night, you just turn it on and run it in your near infrared mode. Uh you know it's a near infrared mode, the screen at the bottom's on. You can't obviously see the LEDs because near infrared is invisible, and you could do a treatment without anyone else being disturbed. No sound and no bright lights. Okay, so what is this all cost? Well, it retails for 900 No, that's that is way too expensive. Retails for 291 US dollars. Now now there's actually a discount link or a code, uh it is down below. Don't know exactly what you save, but you will save something if you use that. Shipping is free to America, Canada, and I checked with an Australian address as it is free to Australia as well. So, pretty good price. As for what you get in the box, well, you open up the packaging and there is this QR code. I This is for the uh instruction manual. I I I don't like that. Anyway, uh more on that later. And then you get this box. You open that box up and you get this handy little travel case with a USB-C charging plug in there. So, again, I've been using this for years and I don't think I've ever used this. Uh this has literally been everywhere. Indonesia, Australia, New Zealand, America, China, UAE, Oman. Been to a lot of countries and uh yeah, still going strong. Now, I do need to make a quick clarification. Years ago, I tested the Mito Red Light Mito Mobile Flex. It is exactly the same device as this. That was my go-to device and it's what I recommended for the best portable travel-friendly device, even low-cost device. They discontinued that a few years ago. I was still using the Mito Red device because, hey, there was nothing wrong with it, but people were getting frustrated saying, "Hey, I can't buy it. What should I get instead?" That's when I realized Rouge last year had their Nano. I got one. I started using that. It's exactly the same same functionality. Even the packaging was nearly identical. Performance-wise, it's the same as well. So, is this better than the Mito Red Light product? No, it's it's the same, but you can't buy the Mito Red Light anymore. Thus, I recommend the Rouge Nano because, yeah, it's a good product and I don't know why Mito Red Light discontinued it. Oh, and one of the quick thing with the Rouge Nano is it's a 1-year warranty with a 60-day return period. You're buying from Rouge. This company has been around for many years. I've been reviewing a lot of their products. I've done a company review on them. Really good score, high trust, good reviews in our Facebook group from people who have purchased from them and I have a good professional relationship with them as well. Okay, pros and cons. What do I like about it? Good returns, good warranty, good company, great. Good price point, $270 for a high-powered portable device from a good company. Some may say it's on the higher price, but I mean you are getting a solid battery in there. And again, these are decent LEDs. And if you compare it to say some tabletop devices, yes, they're bigger, but of course, that's a whole different sort of ballpark. Now, if you do compare it to some other devices on the market, you'll actually find that this is quite well priced. So, hang around because at the end of the video, I will do a quick comparison. I like the irradiance output on this. Uh it could be higher, sure, but it is much higher than a lot of products on the market, and it's it's more than adequate for what most people need. I like that it's got a big battery in it, lasts a long time. I find that charging does take a little bit of time, longer than usual. I mean, leave it on overnight, and it's fine. But this is not like a quick-charging iPhone, for instance. Again, though, the battery lasts a long time, so you don't have to charge it very often. Of course, no EMF, no flicker, no sound, all great things. I also like that it's got adjustable modes, so if you just want red light or just want near-infrared light or you want the blend, and it has the timer on the front. It's just It's It's very basic, but hey, it works. What do I not like? Well, usually I criticize portable devices when they have a 1-year warranty. So, I guess I have to do that again, but knowing that I've used this device and the previous Mito Red Light device, which we still have, uh it's stored in our coffee table upstairs, I believe. Um they've been running for years, right so right, so I think these are well-built, long-lasting device. There is always that concern when you're buying a battery-powered device that the battery gives out, but um so far, so good. I don't like that there's no physical manual attached. I mean, this is pretty easy to use, but having a little four four page pamphlet in there would have been nice. Another thing, this is more of a I don't know, this is me getting picky now. If it was a little bit slimmer, it would be a bit better. I mean, I can hold it fine. My wife holds it fine, but often she's like, I wish it was like, you know, just half an inch thinner. Maybe as well if if you were to do a 2.0 version, round the edges a little bit more, especially on the back, and uh you could even put some like, I don't know, indentations in there just you can hold it a little bit easier. This is not really a problem, but still, if it could be improved because every product could be improved in some way, that's one way I would improve it. Okay, now, should you buy the Rouge G4 Nano? Well, look, if you have a panel in your house, and you want something portable, then yes. If you are new to red light therapy, and you don't want to spend $1,000 on a panel, but you want to see what red light therapy does, then yes. If you travel a lot, then yeah, this is a great product. If you go to the gym, and you need something, you know, at a sports field, or before a game, or whatever, again, great option. If you're just a red light therapy geek, and you need another tool in the toolbox, again, remember, I have like 70 products right here in this room alone. Uh and I still go to this device. So, yeah, I I I I think it's like a must-have if you are you know, someone who who wants to have all the products, one for every job. The cool thing about this is you can very easily use it instead of a mask. Um sure, you can't walk around and stuff with it. Well, I suppose you could, but you could easily just sit there for 5 minutes with this device, and you're going to get a good facial treatment, just like you would with the mask, and you still got the portability aspect. Would I recommend this if you're trying to treat the whole body, or, you know, you you've got aching joints, and short on time? No, I would recommend the panel because you can hit a larger area, but of course the price goes way up. Still, it's a very good product for a lot of use cases, especially given the price. But, like I always do in my reviews, before you rush out and buy it or don't buy it or make a decision, you need to look at other products on the market. Now, again, it does depend on what you're trying to treat. If you're in the market for facial benefits, you could probably go off and look at some mask reviews and and do a comparison the which form factor is better and then decide on the product. But, let's say you've come here looking for a battery-powered handheld device. How does this compare to the competitors? Now, remember 5 years ago I looked at a lot of the products and this came out number one with the Mito Red Light version. But, there are a lot of new products on the market today. So, let's run through them. First up, there's the Kemion Move Plus Pro. Now, this is portable, battery-powered, yes, but it's much smaller. It's three pods, you can clip them together. It's great for joints, knees, shoulders, um, elbows even. In fact, that's what it was designed for. It uses LEDs and lasers. The light will penetrate a little bit deeper into the tissue. So, it's more of a specific use case device. However, I often travel with it, typically just one pod. If I get cold sores or a sore lip or something, uh, I'll I'll use that to treat the cold sore. The other problem with Kemion though is it's quite expensive. Expect to pay $500 for it. Another device to consider is the Lume Flex. Now, they've got three versions, uh, a basic one, a pro line with a bunch of wavelengths in there, I think it was like eight wavelengths, and then their waterproof version. So, look, if you are looking at one of these devices to use at a sports field and your sports field is surrounded by dust and a lot of water, this nano is not going to be great. They're literally you can see the circuitry in the inside, so you don't want to get water or dust in there. But, again, LumaFlex could be a great job, great addition, and this is where the LumaFlex could be a good solution. The LumaFlex is flexible, so you can wrap around the body. It's a contact device. You don't really need It's designed to be used on the skin, a contact style device. Again though, it is a bit more expensive. Expect to pay $300 depending on which model you want to get. I think I've got a discount link to all of these products as well down below. So again, you can see why the Nano is quite attractive at that 270 US price point. And then the final one to consider is the Platinum LED BioMax Go. Now, this has just been released like last week. I haven't used it yet. I haven't even held it yet, so uh I can't say much about it other than what's on their website. It looks good. It's basic in the sense that it only uses the 660 and 850 nanometers, two wavelengths that we probably all we need when you really boil it boil it back to the basics. Uh but this BioMax Go does have some more advanced features. There's a screen on there. You can adjust the intensity. It's got pulsing. Do you need these features? Probably not. But, if you're new to the market and you want one product that has it all, it could be a a better option, especially because the price point is very similar. It's retailing for $299.
