BALTIMORE RAVENS SIGN AUSTIN REED!

Ravens have a new quarterback, but this isn't your typical signing where we know exactly what his role is going to be. Austin Reed is coming in to compete for that QB3 spot against Joe Fano behind Lamar Jackson and Tyler Huntley. And when we start to peek into his background and see the things that he can do, it actually makes it a whole lot more interesting. Let's check this out. >> Austin played well. He played within himself. And yet we'll look at the film and there's so much more he can continue to do, which is what we get two weeks to continue to try to do. Uh I still think he's an NFL quarterback. I want to keep grinding on these fundamentals so that he doesn't go past open guys that he's ready with his feet to throw accurately to a first choice that's available to him. And but is he a competitor? Is he a tryhard Jesse? And do you love him? Absolutely. So, uh, I'm anxious for him to get another chance. And we'll keep busting our tails to get him to the highest level. >> And now his former UFFL coaches can officially say once again that it ended up happening. Reading this report on him, it said, "The Baltimore Ravens have signed Dallas Renegades quarterback Austin Reed. Uh, the former Western Kentucky product and Bears quarterback had a strong campaign in the NFL. Led the league with 21 touchdowns alongside 1,923 passing yards. the gunslinger finds a new home in the NFL. And just to take an even deeper dive into who Austin Reed is, this came from Baltimore Ravens.com. It says Reed most recently played for the Dallas Renegades of the United Football League. Although he finished just four and six as a starter, Reed finished second in passing yards and set a UFFL single season record for passing touchdowns while throwing nine interceptions. His 376 passing yards in a season opener set a UFFL single game record. [snorts] And Florida native. Hey. All right. That's QB3 right there. You you so HE FROM FLORIDA. OH YEAH, we good to go now. We ain't got to do nothing. We ain't got to read another sentence on Austin Reed at all. And he's from Florida and his last name is Reed. Perfect Baltimore Raven. But let's continue. It says he started his college career in the fall of 2018 at Southern Illinois, a member of the football championship subdivision. Reed spent just one season there and didn't take a snap, ultimately choosing to red shirt. Uh he transferred to Division 2 West Florida the following spring. That fall, Reed led the Argonauts to a national championship after the 2020 season got cancelled due to CO 19. Reed quarterback West Florida in 2021 before transferring to Western Kentucky. He finished his division 2 career with 78 touchdown passes and 20 interceptions in 26 games. That's a nice little ratio right there. I like that read. But let's keep going. Says he was an immediate hit at Western KY's normally high-flying offense. He led the FBS division in passing yards in 2022 with 4,746. O boy was throwing that ball, wasn't he? He said uh and making him the making the fourth time a heel topper quarterback led the nation in passing yards since 2014. Reed played one more season at Western Kentucky before declaring for the 2024 NFL draft. He signed with the Chicago Beers as an undrafted rookie free agent. He was waved that August but was signed to their practice squad. He signed a reserve future contract in January 2025 but was waved that August. He signed with the Renegades the following spring. In five preseason appearances for the Bears, Reed completed 23 of 33 passes for 230 yards and a touchdown. So Austin Reed got a nice little resume, especially for a QB3 spot and he's clearly a competitor and somebody who does not give up. And just to see another aspect of just how hard and determined he is. Let's watch this clip. >> My life the last couple weeks. I think crazy is probably an understatement. Our two girls came a little bit sooner than we expected. >> My wife had an emergency C-section. 27 weeks and 2 days of gestation. [music] My daughters were born. The next day we had practice. I found out I was going to be the starting quarterback. >> I was absolutely boxed. I had no idea what to do. >> New Heisel goes, "You good? Are you going to play well?" "Yes, sir. That's that's the plan." And okay, sweet. Sounds good. You've earned it. [music] And then walks off. >> It's so crazy. You like go into the NICU and you look at them and you're like, damn, dude. I've never done something a tenth of as [music] tough as they've done in the first two weeks of their lives. I take such pride in taking care of people around me and and being [music] able to help. Especially like as a quarterback, you control everything, you know, and in [music] this situation, I had no control. But again, like as believers, we're called to have faith when we [music] don't control things and to trust everything's going to work out the way it's supposed to. And I got to go out there and just perform. >> And that's a different type of pressure right there, especially with everything that his family went through. But did you hear what he said? said he still had to go out there and perform. Despite what was going on in his personal life, he still had to make it happen on a professional level. So, that makes me that much more excited to see Austin Reed out there competing for that QB3 spot with the Baltimore Ravens. Cuz I want to touch on what Marlo said on the lounge with respect to John Harbaugh and the new coaching staff. Generational is what comes to mind when I think of Harbaugh's time as the head coach. Not because he was a once in a generation coach, but because his job was saved by generational players. Ooh. Ooh, that made my stomach hurt right there. [laughter] He said, "The mutiny during the 2012 season is what put the team on the right track and the last ride of Ray Lewis, a generational leader, helped put fire into the flock once the playoffs came around. A once in a generation playoff quarterback, excuse me, playoff performance by Joe Flacco, led the Ravens to a Super Bowl win. Once Ray and Ed left, the cracks became even easier to see. Harball was on his way out the door until Flaco got injured and Mr. Lamar Jackson, our generational quarterback, came in and dominated. All of that being said, a lot of the flock saw and suspected what Marlin confirmed. Harball wasn't coaching the team. He may have been giving tidbits here and there, but he wasn't leading rooms or position groups in anything. Uh, it's interesting that us at the end of the bar who don't know ball could see what was going on inside the walls of the castle. And that's crazy right there. That's what I always tell people. Fans be saying a lot of stuff, but don't sleep on what fans be seeing, man. Don't sleep on it. People, there'd be a lot of people that say, "Oh, you never played ball before. You're not in the locker room. You don't know what's happening. You're not there." But fans be seeing and so many Ravens fans echoed the same thing that my guy Jay is saying, the same thing that Marlon Humphrey literally said himself. But there were other fans like, "Oh no, y'all don't know what you're talking about." But yeah, they know what they were talking about. He said, "I like the team getting to experience a different approach, and it seems like coach Mer's message of being a connector is being amplified by his staff. It seems to be resonating with the players, which should help uh him get buyin from the team captains. Uh EDC has done a good job to put the right pieces in place, securing talent on offense and defense at every level. It's now up to the players and coaches to get the best out of each other and leave it all on the field. Looking forward to a fun season of highs and lows with the rest of the flock. And go Ravens. Oh, that was summed up perfectly. I appreciate you Jay. EDC got to go. This next question a little opposite from what my guy Jay was just saying that EDC put all the right pieces in place. But let's see what my guy Van had to say. He said, "What if we had uh Jacobe and Likely and Z catch passes in front of Lamar?" Both of them make big plays and will do nothing. EDC got to make better decisions on the offensive side of the ball. I Okay, start with that right there. Now, they they tried to resign Isaiah likely. Look, I'm as upset as everybody that Isaiah Likely ain't with the Ravens anymore. But they tried to get it done with Isaiah likely, but they couldn't come to no agreement. And as we know, with an agreement, it takes two. I know a lot of people say, "Oh, well, he signed for just a tiny bit more than Mark Andrews did." I don't know if the Ravens offered what they offered Andrews to Isaiah likely. If they offered more to Isaiah like I would think they offered more to Isaiah likely since he's excuse me, since he's younger, but we'll never know. Uh but they they tried to get it done though. They tried. So that was their priority. It didn't work out. They pivoted to Mark Andrews. So they went with I can't even say the safe thing, but they went with what they felt was the safe option. So they tried, but again, it didn't work. Uh, so he said, um, I love Z, but we need some of that going. Uh, some some of that going, go there, get it to you. Baitman and Andrews ain't going to do it. Teas Walker, I don't know. We depend on a rookie we never seen play. What EDC when signing Andrews over likely? I don't know what super this year probably and Jesse two years and Jacobe are one time calling place. Von, well, you when you were typing this, you were hate it, man. you would a lot that I don't know what's going on, but it sound like um you did say we depending on a rookie. So, you sound like you're talking about Jacobe Lane and whatnot and the young guys TZ Walk. TZ Walk ain't a rookie, but he going into his third year. Rashad Baitman. Um it's it's a lot of unknowns. You all right about that? It's a lot of unknowns with him, but I can't just immediately write them off. Oh, Andrews ain't going to do nothing. Rashad Baitman ain't going to do nothing. We going to write both of them off like, no, we can't. We got to see how they do. We got to give them a chance. So, let's see how the season goes. At least give it the first three weeks of the season, Van, and then hit us up after that. Lamar Jackson, the content forming scapegoat. Next question came from my guy, Phil. What's up, Phil? He said, "What's up, Engraven? Hope all is well with you and your family. As always, your content and point of view is always appreciated. I I appreciate you, man." Uh, he said, "I'll be brief, but Dan Safety of Vloki, the fettiness." Oh, yeah. And walking out the back of the end zone. He said, [snorts] uh, Dan Safety of just dropped his list of QB rankings, and I can no longer ignore a trend I've been noticing. Lamar is clearly being used as controversial clickbait by a lot of these analysts. And he put that in quotation marks. You're right. You could have ended the question right there and we'd be done cuz it's true. It's true. You could tell like they they they really been trying Lamar extra. We were just talking about this in a video yesterday. They've been trying Lamar extra like more than ever. So yeah, you spot on. He said the consistent downplay of Lamar is just sad and no longer laughable at this point. I understand people having a difference of opinion, but blatantly disregarding this man's accomplishment for the sake of views is becoming more and more obvious. What are your thoughts? And as always, be well, brother. AND FLOCK NATION, STAND UP. ALL RIGHT. I'M I'M STOOD. I'm stood. Anyway, let me sit there. But yeah, no, you're right. You you you you're spot on. That's it's it's blatant. It's obvious. They know exactly what they doing. They know exactly what's going on. We see it. And it it's just something that's never going to stop. Next question came from my guy Trey G. Said, "Keep Jacobe Lane away from my DBs." So, you ain't even got to say nothing else cuz I already I feel like I know where this is going to go. But anyway, he said, "What's up, Engraven?" What's up, Trey? He said, "Today, I don't have a question so much as a cry for help. In this preseason, we've seen two of our top DBs go down to minor injuries, both while covering Jacobe Lane. We've seen others get just straight up embarrassed trying to cover him. Well, I've seen enough. For the health of our DBs, let's have Jacobe practice off to the side where everyone else can be safe." [laughter] It's a crazy coincidence, ain't it? Nate Wiggins goes down. What's he doing covering Jacobe Lane? Marlon Humphrey goes down. What's he doing? Jacob Kobe Lane. It's crazy, man. He said, "Obviously, I'm joking, but I do feel super fortunate that both injuries were minor and that Wiggins and Humphrey will be back on the field soon. I'm also feeling excited about what we can expect from Jacobe this season. Do you see him taking over the wide receiver 2 role this season? If so, when would you expect that to happen?" That's a great question. Now, um I feel like, yeah, that would probably be Baitman coming out the gate. Um because Baitman with this new this rookie coaching staff, they may feel I maybe but they may feel Baitman is like a safer option at wide receiver too for now. For now until Jacobe goes out there and proves himself. Um but Baitman still got to prove himself too. So but um I I I think it is possible if he if when he's getting his opportunities and he doing his thing and if Baitman getting opportunities too and it's not looking as good. Hopefully it's still looking hopefully looking good for everybody. But if they did make a change, I think it would all just depend on how good he's doing and how not as good Baitman was doing and how long that was going on for. If it happened one week, then no. If it happened for like 3 weeks, then I could think we could see a change in week four. So I I think it all just depends on the flow of their production. All he said, as always, appreciate everything you do for this community. I appreciate what y'all do for this community because y'all are this community and y'all make everything happen. I don't do nothing but talk. Next question is came from my guy Emanuel. He said, "Hope you and your family are doing well. I got three questions for you. Number one, do you think this Ravens team can do something that the 07 Patriots could couldn't do and go undefeated all the way to the Super Bowl?" No, I don't. It is possible, but I don't think it's going to happen. Uh mistakes happen. This league is crazier than ever nowadays. I would love if they did that. Like they would undefeated and won a Super. Oh, woo. Woo. But I can't realistically expect that. He said number two, when Lamar Jackson wins his first championship, would that make him a top 10 quarterback of all time? Yes, he said if so, who you taking off? Me personally is Dan Marino. I know that sounds ludicrous to say, but he doesn't have a championship and they don't crucify him like they do Lamar. Well, what's the biggest difference between anyway? He said, and number three, I can see Lamar Jackson finishing his career with 450 career passing touchdowns, 45,000 career passing yards, and 250 career rushing touchdowns, 25,000 career rushing yards. Do you see him having these numbers when his career is done, or do you see him surpassing those numbers that I said? Oh, I don't even know. I I I can't even think about Lamar Jackson the end of his career. as long as I got a couple Super Bowls, then whatever numbers he got are good with me. He also said, "I want to thank you for all the hard work that you've been doing." Uh, appreciate you, Emanuel. I I'll be seeing you in the comment section every single video. So, appreciate you, ES. He said, um, always enjoy life uh with the people that you care about cuz you never know when it's the last time uh you see them. Um, because this is officially 4 years since I saw my brother die and one week later, my mom almost died because of a heart attack. So remember, don't take life and the people that you that have done right by you for granted. Oh man, that's I [snorts] didn't know that. I appreciate you sharing that with us, Emanuel. I I had no idea that you had went through that and and sorry. And that's that's real. That's true. Everything that you said about that is is spot on. It it really really is, man. So I I appreciate you uh despite having gone through something so like that's a lot that's a lot to deal with. Uh you just show so much love like I said every single video I always every single video I see in the comments every single one and with every single question too. So I appreciate how you are. He said, "Been hearing that Andrews has been struggling in camp. If he continues to struggle and not producing in games, do you see us trying to trade him off?" No, not really. Um, for them to rely on two rookies and Doris Smite. Uh, yeah, not well, he would have to be doing like downright bad, like terrible. And I I I still don't see it. But cuz it's like cuz Lamar like I I just I I don't I don't see it. Yeah, I don't see it. He also said with the injury tonight and I'm hoping it's nothing too serious and boom, it ended up being nothing too serious which is crazy. He Oh well, it's too late for this now. Okay. I hadn't even seen this. He said, "Should we have given Terry Arnold a try out? I seen that teams are hosting it." Well, it's too late now because Mike McDonald said, "Oh, Terry Oh, you know what? You come over to the Seahawks, baby." Next question came from my guy Caesar. He said, "What's up, Engravin? I'm excited for the season to start just like everyone else, but I've been nervous about this new coaching regime as well. Although excited. Also, I seen your response to my question on one of your recent videos and I just wanted to say that although I have suggestions or opinions on players getting traded, I do wish them the best with the Ravens, but I've been a Ravens fan since around 2010 at 10 years of age. And I would say I do have favorite players, but eventually they don't all stay with the Ravens as team tries to get better each season. That's true, man. That's the tough part about being a fan of these teams, man, because we become fans of individual players as well. some become our favorites and whatnot, then they end up leaving and it's like, oh man. And that's what messed me up as a basketball fan cuz I used to love love love the Sacramento Kings. That was my favorite team and they was similar to the Ravens of recent because they would go back and forth with the Lakers, but the Lakers would just always get the best of them. The the Kings just never got it done. They would come close, but they would never finish the job. Um, and that was when they had like Mike Bby and Doug Christie and Paisakovich and Vlad Devok. Um, Bobby Jackson, uh, Chris Weber, like that was my squad, man. I I love that team. And they stuck them, they had them together for years, but then Pedro Stakovich went somewhere else, Ly went somewhere else, Mike Bby left, Bobby Jackson, and all of them started leaving. I'm like, man, so that made me fall out of love with basketball cuz I again I used to love love B, love the Kings, but they start breaking up and that changed everything. But anyway, he said, "I remember being a fan before Lamar was with the team and still will be once he retires a Super Bowl champ with the Ravens. But I say that to say, I'm a Ravens fan for life, and I wish the team all the success through thick and thin." Oh yeah, you good, Caesar. He said, "I don't have a question this time. Just wanted to make it clear. I don't want to see our favorite players traded. It's just opinions and thoughts on how to improve for the future so we can always be on the race for the Lombardi." Oh, no. I get it. You're good, man. You ain't got you ain't got to explain yourself. You were just thinking like a GM. That's it. That's G GMs, they they love their players and whatnot, but they got to make business decisions. He said, "One last thing I did want to tell you is I saw that QB is eligible for an extension after this season. And is CJ Strad and Caleb Williams?" Man, already that Oh, yeah. I guess that makes sense. Wow. That That makes a lot of sense. Ain't CJ Strad eligible now, though. Caleb Williams. Yeah. After the season, cuz this will be his third year. Wow. Time flies, man. He says, "So, I'm assuming Lamar will sign his extension after they both sign first. Now that they got his extension, and hopefully the team thrives under the new coaching staff, it makes Lamar want to sign the extension." Hopefully, that ends up being what the case is. Hopefully, they could be like, "Oh, man. Ravens just won a Super Bowl. Oh, now we about to sign Lamar to a 20-year contract extension." He said, "Thanks for the time you put into creating content for us, Ravens fans. I wish you and your family nothing but success." Hey, appreciate your season. Much love to you, my friend. Speaking of Lamar's extension, next question came from my guy Chase. He said, "As of right now, Lamar hasn't agreed to an extension and to me and me and my dad are having disagreements. Pat Mahomes got an extension for 65 million a year until 2033. That's seven years. I think that was a great move for the Chiefs even after he tore his ACL. 65 mil a year now is expensive, but by next season it won't even be top five. Jayden Daniels, Drake May, Cayla Williams, Bryce Young, CJ Stra, Baker Mayfield are all due for a contract extensions. Those last three guys are only in the conversation if they play well, which I think Bryce Young and Baker Mayfield will. See, the thing is, um, I don't even think that's the case because these quarterbacks, they just got to be good enough to get major contract extensions. like guys like Trevor Lawrence, Tu Tega Valoa. Um there are other ones too, but you ain't even got to be like this elite guy to get a major contract extension. You just got to be good enough. You have some elite games in there, but you just got to be almost solid. Anyway, he said, "I want to sign Lamar to a 60 $396 million deal, which comes to a 66 annual average. If we give him 60% of that guaranteed, I think that'll be enough to have him sign. I prefer to have him sign before the start of next season, or else it will be way more expensive because he doesn't negotiate during the season." It's true. You know, once that season started, Lamar said, "Oh, okay. I'm I'm I'm good." Nope. Don't even talk about it. Don't send me no texts, no emails, no WhatsApp. Don't send me nothing about it. Anyway, he said, "My dad thinks that his legs won't be there anymore." And that's the biggest issue. But Pat Mahomes tore his freaking ACL and the Chiefs gave him his money. Lamar deserves it. And frankly, it wasn't his fault. He kept getting hurt over the 35 over 35 pressures in a single game against the Lions. And at mid-season last year, he had already been sacked as many times as he was in 2023. It's crazy. My dad also completely forgot that he's a top five pocket pass. And after I mentioned that, he still disagreed with me. It is better to lock him down long-term for the high now so that he can be 2% worse for a middle of the pack deal later. And a 2% worse Lamar Jackson is still a top three quarterback. What do you think? Yeah, it certainly is. A lot of people, they want to try and take away Lamar Jackson's legs from his game, but again, they fail to realize that the man is a quarterback. And what does a quarterback do? They throw the ball. And Lamar Jackson is an excellent thrower of the football. A lot of people get caught up with the running, which I said because that's like if you look at ESPN and they talk about Lamar Jackson, that's going to be the first thing that they highlight. Oh my goodness, look at his legs. Oh my goodness, he made this person miss. Oh my goodness, he's so fast. Oh my goodness, he's so agile. Oh my goodness, if he wanted to play running back, he could. And even in articles, they'll like sneak it in. Not even sneak it in there. They they'll say it, but they'll say it in a way to where they're they'll put the legs before the arm. They'll put the running before the throwing and they'll do that a lot and and it has a lot of people thinking like, "Oh man, Lamar Jackson is only his legs and that's it." Now, his legs are very very special. But his arm is just as special as his legs and because of his legs, a lot of people sleep on that. They they sleep on the arm, but you can't do like like that man that man can throw. And I feel like with Lamar like and he got a cannon, too. I feel like his arm is underrated, too. Um, but you you can't sleep on that part of his game because it's it's just as important. And what his legs do, his arm, he he can make some crazy crazy throws. He got some crazy uh anticipation, some crazy like uh ball placement, too. And it's been like that actually since his rookie year. I remember him throwing them little sidearm throws. And there would be these throws where he would get it like the the ball placement would be crazy from jump cuz there would be a defender right here, a defender right here, his receivers's right here, and there would be like a defender right here. And he would somehow get it right in between those three defenders to his receivers. Um, but yeah, tell tell Pops like look say Pops look don't say like that. I don't want you get kicked out the house or nothing like that, but say Pops look I love you, but look, Lamar is our guy. That's our quarterback and he needs to remain our quarterback and he is elite in so many different ways, not just because of his legs. Next question came from my guy Johny. He said, "Uh, I've never seen Ammani or Oro and Yari's name come up when we talk about corners that will make the final 53. Do you think it's because he's just forgotten or his does he really have no shot?" I I think Ravens quarterback room is just it's a lot. You got Marlon Humphrey, Nate Wiggins, uh TJ Tampa, Chadobia Wooier, uh the rookie Chanty Rivers. Oh my goodness, I feel like I forgot his name. Chanty Rivers I think though. So that's five right there. Then you still got Keon Martin. You still got Bel Con, Robert Longaber. So that's eight right there. Are they going to keep eight? Probably not. They probably keep like six or seven. So that that would be why cuz the odds the numbers are are stacked against him like crazy. Uh he said experienced corner with 10 interceptions and over 200 tackles. I like his chances but I don't know. So yeah that he's he's up against a whole lot. Um he said Wiggins Marlo Wooier TJ Tampa Chandler Ammani will be six if we keep six in my opinion like Longer Beam and Coney will be this year. I'm out. Boy that boy Johny the GM. Next question came from my guy Deon. He said hey team keep it clean family. have concerns about Mark Andrews cuz I'm hearing that he's always dropping passes at every camp. He's not having a good training camp and right now Likely isn't here. So, do you think that we made a mistake letting Likely go? Well, again, not a mistake. I obviously wish they would have kept Isaiah likely, but they they tried to keep Isaiah likely. But with Mark Andrews, again, we're just hoping that once the season comes on, once the lights come on, then Mark Andrews, he'll come on and he'll be that old thing.
