Video summary

Seesaw introduces an innovative tool designed to streamline the process of assessing student reading fluency directly within its platform. This feature allows educators to record students as they read aloud and automatically captures real-time data, significantly saving time by eliminating manual analysis. By leveraging artificial intelligence, the system provides actionable insights that help teachers respond more quickly to individual student needs, ensuring that instruction can be tailored effectively based on immediate performance metrics rather than delayed evaluations. Creating a reading fluency assessment in Seesaw is depicted as a quick and customizable process starting from the AI hub. Educators have multiple options for generating content, including using pre-made passages from the library, uploading existing texts, entering manual text, or utilizing the "Generate" feature to create brand new passages tailored to specific grade levels and topics. Once generated, the passage is automatically paired with editable comprehension questions directly related to the text, resulting in a complete auto-graded assessment that students can record themselves reading before receiving instant feedback on their performance. Upon completion of an assessment by students, Seesaw delivers comprehensive real-time data for both classroom-wide analysis and individual student tracking. Teachers receive an overall summary highlighting common errors alongside detailed transcripts for each child that identify correct words as well as insertions or omissions during the reading process. The platform calculates specific metrics such as the percentage of words read correctly, word count per minute, and the number of attempts required to complete the task, while also providing audio files so educators can listen back to every student's performance for a thorough review. The system further empowers teachers with granular control over scoring accuracy through built-in editing tools that allow them to override automatic results or exclude words not read within the allotted time frame using gear icon settings. This flexibility ensures that assessments reflect true reading ability rather than technical glitches or timing issues, ultimately fostering an environment where educators can efficiently monitor progress and support literacy development with ease and precision throughout the school year.
