Video summary
In this review, Augie Reyes from King's Armory showcases the Sig Sauer 229 Pro, a firearm sent to him by Tony Ashcraft of Black Rifle Company. The pistol is chambered in 9mm and features a distinctive "Pro Cut" slide that includes an RMR cutout for mounting red dot sights, along with forward serrations on the slide for improved grip. It comes equipped with three 15-round magazines and Sig's proprietary X-Ray Sights, which are designed to function effectively in both daylight and low-light conditions by glowing in the dark. While the manufacturer's suggested retail price is listed around $4,999, Augie notes that followers of King's Armory can acquire this model for approximately $1,150 due to special discounts offered through their partnership.
The reviewer highlights the mixed but ultimately positive experience with the pistol's double-action trigger, acknowledging that while it may feel less ideal compared to single-action triggers on other platforms, the transition is manageable when using the included decocker. However, he was particularly impressed by the smoothness and performance of the single-action mode, which surprised him given his initial expectations for this type of platform. Throughout his testing at the range, Augie encountered zero stoppages, praising the gun's reliability and how well it ran during a dynamic three-gun course that involved shooting with pistols, rifles, and shotguns. He also appreciates the ergonomic improvements, such as the G10 grips and the overall styling, which contribute to a high-quality package suitable for concealed carry, range training, and recreational shooting.
Augie expresses a strong preference for the 229 Pro over other recent offerings from Sig Sauer, such as the P320, citing his long-standing admiration for the 229 platform regardless of whether it is chambered in 9mm or .40 caliber. He emphasizes that this model represents another solid product from a reputable manufacturer, combining expected quality with thoughtful design elements like the lightened slide components. His enthusiasm stems from the fun he had shooting the firearm and its consistent performance under various conditions, making it a compelling option for those looking for a reliable production pistol.
For viewers interested in learning more about the Sig 229 Pro or participating in training sessions, Augie encourages them to reach out directly to him or contact Tony Ashcraft at Black Rifle Company. He mentions that upcoming events, including a basic pistol course next month, are open for registration and invites enthusiasts to join in for hands-on experience with the firearm. The video concludes with a friendly reminder to stay safe and keep shooting, reinforcing the community aspect of firearms training and the availability of resources for those eager to explore this specific model further.
