Dreary Spears is very opinionated. um ever since you know I can remember he's always did these tonality things man and um first of all welcome to the show what's going on well first of all two things thanks for having me on and number two Aries before I start talking he really want me to say this this not just [laughter] it's not just me talking Aries this e opinion too >> no I'm I'm going be honest with you I'm a big Aries Spears fan man I'm not like Joe Button uh I'm not I'm I'm not going. I met him uh a dope guy in his own way. He got his own thing, you know. Um I can't say he's not talented as you guys a lot of guys allude to. I've listened at his uh standup. I've seen him uh actually um on Mad TV when he was doing it. And um do I agree with what he said about those those uh patriarchs that he spoke on, those legendary comedians? No. But I can't just downplay who he is because of what he said. I seen him and I respect what he is and who he is when it comes down to that. But he said a lot of things that I didn't agree with, but it didn't negate his talent and the fact that he he packed out shows. And anybody that has been to his show know that, including Vlad. >> I mean, just cuz he sold out Chuck-E-Cheese don't mean he packed out shows. But here's the thing, right? >> It wasn't Chuck-E-Cheese, man. Stop it. You you shot. He He improbs everywhere just like all the rest of them. You have uh Eddie Griffin. You've had uh Dave Chappelle does them. Uh everybody does the uh these uh these places where you packing these shows out. And I've seen some guys that couldn't pack them out and Ary Spears did pack them out. So I I don't even want to say who didn't or who did, but I'm just saying we don't want to we don't want to play like he's not who he is, man. him and uh I think it's uh Steinberg or whatever that guy is that's with him. A cool cat. But at any rate, I just I just heard what Joe Button was saying and I was like, whoa. You know, like like I get it. The guy definitely um wrong for what he said about Bernie Mack or what he said about Martin to me, but um doesn't take away from his talent. You get it? >> I listen, I don't take away nothing from the man can do impersonations. Um, absolutely. >> My only problem with what Listen, two things could be right at the same time. >> One, he's entitled to his opinion. Right. Right. >> But two, but two, let's be honest, he was also asked a question by Tony Rob. Right. So, it wasn't like he brought up the topic himself. >> Correct. It wasn't like he just went, >> "Yeah, but he he grabbed some people that he I just felt like he shouldn't have grabbed." You know, >> once again, you feel that way. But if he feels that way as a comedian, we you know what I'm saying? Now listen, do would I pay to listen for Ary Spears? No. You couldn't give me a bootleg of Ary Spears. But the bottom line is listen, they asked him his opinion. Now we I think if you took a consensus, Bernie Mack is funnier than Ary Spears. If you took a consensus, >> of course, I would I would agree with that. No one will take no one can take away what Martin Lawrence was in the early 90s from Death Comedy Jam to his own show to even a thin line between love and hate. Right. Right. >> We understood Martin is an icon. He's on the Rushmore. >> Right. Um I didn't understand Ary Spears going at Bernie and then impersonating Bernie while he's going at Bernie. That means you study Bernie, right? So you claim his comedy didn't do it for you, but you had to cage down to a point. Right. So you did all of that. That means you studied Bernie. >> Well, I don't know if he studied uh uh Bernie or he no or Robin Robin Harris. Uh Baby's kids. >> They kind of >> they had the same kind of they had the the same kind of uh >> you know what I mean? Um they got the same kind of uh they got the same kind of tone. I always said that he had that same tone as Robin Harris, you know what I mean? So studying if he studied Robin Harris, if he studied Bernie had the same kind of tone to me. That's just my opinion. That's subjective, but they sounded alike. >> Now, here's a question to you then. If that's the case, then why didn't he throw Robin Harris in there, too? >> Man, Robin Harris was was way way goish, way before his time. So, I don't know. I don't know. in Hollywood around the same time, bro. Eric Spears was in Hollywood at the age of like 16. So Robin Harrison was still alive, >> but Robin Harrison and and Bernie was different too though. They they said I think Robin sounded like him. But yeah, >> exactly my point. >> I mean, not Robin, but Bernie Me sounded like him. >> He studied Bernie. And you do that. Now, here's the thing. You can't say there were episodes on Martin that was borderline buffoonery when you yourself played on Mad TV when 90% of the skits on Mad TV was borderline buffoon. That's just a fact. Just a fact. If you look at if you go and backtrack some of the characters Ary Spears played on Mad TV, it was buffery. So to me, as I always say on your show, they're algorithm chasing. They're clout chasing. Now, he didn't ask himself the question, but he gave you the answer for me and you to be talking about this right now. And that's just the truth. >> He's good at it. And and and and I tried to tell y'all that when when Vlad got rid of him, you know, that was some captivating moments on Vlad when he said, "I'm an awesome star, but sometime I act bizarre." You know, you do you don't. He he had this certain energy when he was on Vlad TV that he he was doing his thing on Vlad TV. He said things about different people from shoot all kind of people. Same way he doing now. He's just finding a way to do it in different uh uh on different podcasts and and his own and and I I you know like I said I I'm I'm definitely u not a guy who agrees with Harry Spears. When he comes on my show we argue like hell or talk crazy. We really just talk debate. It's not an argument. I debate with him. Yeah. I debate with him. I I debate. Shout out to Will's Mills. Whoever you can get it if you come over there, you know, talking down, you know, uh and at the end of the day or we and we still can have some tea and drink some uh drink some coffee or or whatever and and still be cool after that. I I don't have no problem with these guys and their opinions, man. Uh I I think a man can give his opinion. I think a man can give his opinion, but you got to be willing to deal with the backlash. Henceforth, this right here. >> He a super duper ho ass [ __ ] And Aries, I promise you, I'm not trying to start [ __ ] but if you was standing in front of me, I talk just like this. That [ __ ] you said, you wouldn't say that in front of Bernie. >> People are mad about this Bernie Mack thing, man. I was mad about the Martin thing, too. >> I was, too. >> I wasn't really just I ain't saying mad, but I don't agree with him. It ain't that I'm mad because if I see him, we gonna chop it up and we g, you know, we gonna get down. But definitely gonna tell him. That's what I don't like about people can get on the internet, but if you going to tell him like like uh Cory Hok just said, I tell him if I see him, you know, and I believe Cory would tell him cuz, you know, after all that happened over this spot, he feel like he can tell him, you know. Um, now, you know, the other guy that came over there, it was a little bit different, you know what I mean? a few people, you know, but it's been a little different on certain ones. But, uh, Cory's, you know, he's trying to stand his ground on this certain thing that he say when it come down to these people. And, um, I get it, you know, but, you know, of course, Aries, everybody talking down and talking to him crazy because he said what he said. A lot of people love Bernie Mack. A lot of people love Martin. Bernie Mack's not here to defend themselves. Therefore, the people who love Bernie is going to defend Bernie cuz they feel like, "Okay, I got to defend Bernie because Bernie not here to say nothing back." You talking about somebody that's passed on. And that's the climate we in. People will say whatever for views, likes, and sound bites just to get, like you said, uh, you know, get those things to happen. You start digging people up out the dead talking about their character and they not even here to defend themselves. you know, I don't hear him talking about Rodney Dangerfield that he wasn't wasn't all that. I don't hear him talking about it's a few more uh these other guys. So, um you know, I just say, man, you know, Bernie Mack, I've heard a lot of people say a lot of things about O Bernie. You know, again, he's not the first person I've heard say that uh Bernie Mack has stock jokes. If you think if you go back and watch Kdub on my show, Kdub, the comedian Kdub said Bernie Mack was uh he had stock jokes. He didn't have his own, you know, these jokes were jokes he can't he got from somewhere else, but he just was hell. He did say he was funny. He didn't say he wasn't funny, but he just said far as top whatever. He wasn't putting him on that list because of this or that. So these are things that I've heard. I Aries is not the first person to say that. Aries got that from Kdub if you want to just be real. That's why they that Kdub had spoke on this but it was more in a a technical way. It wasn't in a degrading way. So when it came off like I told Aries when he came over when you look at that camera and you say this stuff and you put this type of passion and tonality behind it, you're going to get these type of results cuz it comes off flagrant. And that's why I think he gets the the the backlash he gets. if he was more technical with it. And uh because what he done and I had it and I don't think I have it on here. I might, but what he done was he came back on at a later time and said something totally different. And I I want to see if this is Let me make sure. Here we go. >> What up? It's your boy Ary Spears here. Hey, listen, man. the video of the footage of me on on uh Tony Rock's podcast where I gave my opinion about Bernie Mack's comedy. I gave my opinion about the Martin Lawrence show when Martin was on. I never disrespected Bernie in my assessment of his comedy. I never disrespected Martin the man in my assessment of the show. And on many interviews, I've said that Martin Lawrence in movies is phenomenal. and Bad Boys. I know Will is also the star, but Martin steals the [ __ ] show. Martin to me in movies. Chef's kiss. I just wasn't a fan of the show. Bernie Mack, genius. I acknowledge that. I just wasn't a fan of his particular style of comedy. Holy [ __ ] And I mean, all you sensitive ass [ __ ] is just everything is a disc. Everything is disrespect. Everything is hate. on when I had [laughter] Tony Rock on my podcast recently, the clip that I just posted where he talked about his [ __ ] dial joke and I ended by doing the Paul Mooney impression when I said I kept my [ __ ] dial to 10, which is why my career was at one. OH NOW PAUL MOONEY DONE CAUGHT A STRAIGHT. YOU [ __ ] ARE SO [ __ ] SENSITIVE. Are you serious? THAT'S SOMETHING PAUL MOONEY WOULD say and it's quite factual because let's be honest, his career wasn't what it should have been because he was so power to the people. Stop thising moisture, you sensitive. >> So I I hear him. You know what I'm saying? Like he's definitely saying, "I said what I said, but there was a reason behind what I said." And and he's standing on it, but I wish he'd have said that more when he was over at the Tony Rock show. That way people wouldn't have t you know if he'd have gave the and I might have missed it. Did he give the one up on I like more and more in movies. If he said that then he's giving you the real. That's the way he feel about like you said earlier Dre. But also uh the Bernie Mack thing you know like I said I don't agree with him. I know already Martin was cold. Ain't nobody did shows in the 90 that even touch Martin's show. Period. to me in the 90s you he he took it was was Bill Cosby was in the that was the 80s wasn't it >> yeah Cosby Cosby's was late 80s through the early 90s >> early 90s but when Martin took the handle and took the ham he took it there >> and you got to give him that you can't take that from him and and and you not might not have liked it but you going to have to respect it because the people the numbers show you know that that he was killing the game his reruns run right now his streams right now is doing Good. I bet you his residual is a lot better than Mad TV's being. Believe it. >> So, so you can't you can't really just you can't you really can't put it you can't put it out there like that, man. And Bernie Mack Bernie Max's not again not here to defend themselves. So, Dre, I'm I'm just being real. I'll give you one last thing and what what would you end on? >> My my thing is this. Uh I'm going let me just respond to Kdub. Look, so if you look, technical analysis is technical analysis of comedy. There's so many different forms of comedy, slapstick, all these other things, right? Right. >> Comedy. You know, Kevin Hart is considered a physical comedian falling all over the stage, blah blah blah. >> The thing is is that look, >> if you're going to give a critique, I my thing which made it disingenuous is the fact that you imitated Bernie. So that shows that there's some type of >> So you're not talking about Kdub. You talk you talking about >> listen I'm refle what I'm saying when I said technical now that's why I'm I'm replying to Kdub meaning the technical side of it. So if Kub says Bernie has stock jokes. So you're basically saying he carries pretty much his routine city to city to city and some of it is borrowed some of it is reinterpolated. I get that. That's technical analysis. >> Correct. >> You understand where I'm coming from? Correct. >> Now, what you what Aries did >> is you just gave a somewhat of your subjective opinion without kind of giving the reason why you say Bernie comedy just didn't do it for you, but you say it didn't do it for you, but you imitated him to the tea. So, that shows imitation is what the biggest form of flattery. >> Right. >> Correct. >> Right. >> That's my point. and I land. >> Wow. Like I said, man, these guys, man, they really studied the game. Um, Kada really studies the game. Aries really studied the game. Cory Hok really studies the game. I know because they did this stuff forever now. Joe Button, that's that's just different. You know, Joe Button uh he's like me. >> That was personal. >> No, he's like me. Like like he's just sitting over here doing a podcast and he has an opinion and he's not a comedian. So we won't understand it the way a Kdub or the way a Corey Hokum or the way a Aries or the way a Kevin Hart or though Gary Owen these guys man uh uh Carlos Miller Jesse McDonald these guys are on that stage. Uh Faison Love, they on that stage every night. Every night. So they have a different way that they interpret a different way that they look at these jokes. And um that's why I respect what they say and I'll comment or come back and say something about it. Me and Joe Button kind of on the same time. That's all. But at the end of the day, I I just know my opinion only goes so far because I don't I haven't stood on that stage night after night and did what these guys do. And this guy Aries is is it hits different when you've been standing on them stages since you was a a youth, a 14, 15, 16 year old comedian. Same thing with Corey Hok. Same thing uh hence um uh these guys who come out and say what they say, give their strong opinion on these things. You know, I get it. I got Kub same thing. You go back, look, these boys, Death Comedy Jam, all this different stuff. These boys been in the same room forever. They was on the stage during the time uh Bernie Mack was here. They was on the stage during the time uh uh Martin was doing uh Death Comedy Jam. So these guys opinion is real and these guys opinion can be technical and that's why I believe Aries came back and said what he said. He knows already what what what it's doing and now he's just pretty much uh articulating and formulating it and and carving it out the way he want it to land. This is the internet guys. These people are giving their opinions. You could say one thing on a on a podcast and it can blow up or you could or you could you could say some things that are technical and it can blow up in a negative way or a positive way. That's what I'll say, guys. And guys, listen, man. I like I said, I'm a big fan of all these comedian guys. They all give a hell of a show. I've been to these shows. I watch them. I respect them. I interview them. And at the end of the day, you know, they some real ones. We come from different backgrounds, but then we come from a lot of the same thing, too. We all stood on ten toes when it come down to certain things. They have their way of doing things. I have mine, but I am just giving you my opinion. Shout out to these guys, man. But I still don't agree with you, Aries. And I'm going to tell you that when I see you, and you know that. So, I don't agree with none of this stuff that you doing. I can't wait to see you when I do when I You better not have no show. I think you come to San Antonio. I might come up there if I got a free weekend. But I'm telling you, if I do pull up, I'm telling you. Hey, man. Look man, come on man. You was out here bad. Same thing you did on Mississippi when I told you there certain things I'm not going for.
