Video summary

The video presents an in-depth review of the highly anticipated Air Jordan 3 Laser Palomino, a mythical sample that brings a legendary concept to life with a modern twist. The presenter highlights the shoe's packaging, which features an early 2000s aesthetic reminiscent of the "face box" era, complete with black sides and a silver Jumpman logo. Inside, the shoes are individually wrapped in paper featuring an all-over cement print, revealing a pair that retails for $230. The reviewer notes that while he received a size 12, he traded up to a size 13 for his own use, emphasizing the excitement surrounding this specific release which combines historical significance with contemporary design elements. A significant portion of the discussion is dedicated to the rich history behind the "Laser" series, pioneered by Mark Smith, who revolutionized sneaker customization by hand-painting iconic imagery directly onto the materials rather than using simple prints. The video explains that while laser samples for models like the Air Jordan 4 and 5 were common in the early 2000s, the Air Jordan 3 Laser was particularly rare, originally created as personal birthday gifts for Michael Jordan, Tinker Hatfield, and Mark Smith himself. This specific Palomino colorway draws inspiration from the brown pair made for Mark Smith, featuring a unique mix of suede, leather, and translucent rubber that pays homage to those original private prototypes while updating the design with detailed storytelling. The upper of the shoe is densely packed with references to Michael Jordan's career, personal life, and various brand moments, serving as a walking time capsule. Details include imagery of his fishing trips, motorsports interests, championship trophies, and specific advertisements like the "Welcome to Sunny Portland" billboard. The laser art also incorporates elements such as casino chips, license plates from his cars, references to the Sandy Brothers at Nike, and even a fighter jet nodding to the Air Jordan 5. The presenter praises the execution of these details, noting that unlike previous laser releases which were criticized for being spaced out or technically just printed, this version offers a high level of detail and material quality that makes it a standout piece for collectors who appreciate deep nostalgia and history. Despite its acclaim, the reviewer acknowledges that the shoe's complex colorway and busy design may not appeal to everyone, especially those who prefer classic black-and-white silhouettes or are tired of brown tones. He addresses the mixed reception from his community poll, where some viewers felt the shoe was too cluttered, but he argues that dismissing it as "trash" ignores the effort put into preserving sneaker history. Ultimately, the presenter considers this release to be a top-tier sneaker of the year for him, hoping that its availability to the public allows more people to appreciate the craftsmanship and story behind it, rather than just following trends or judging it based on past negative experiences with laser technology.

Today we're looking at the highly anticipated, well, at least for me, Air Jordan 3 Laser. This is a mythical sample that is coming to life in a new modern twist. And I am excited to break these things down. As you guys can see from the box, you got your early 2000's vibe right here with your face box era. And we've been seeing this trend lately on a lot of the new releases. The rest of the box is going to be covered in black with your silver Jumpman on the side of the lid. And then reading the size tag, it says Air Jordan 3 Retro Laser, Phantom University Red, size 12. Ah, we got a crazy story for this one, but I did get a 13 in trade. So, I guess we'll say size 13 just for me. And retail on these bad boys was 230 bucks. Now, lifting open the lid of the box, you're going to notice on the paper you have your all over cement print paper. And then peeling that back, each shoe comes individually wrapped in white paper. And then as we unwrap each shoe right here, you'll notice you got the shoe. Oh, you got the shoe. Oh, yeah. And if you didn't know by now, my name is DJ and this is the DNA show. On this channel, I love to talk about sneakers, giving you guys in-depth reviews, but most importantly, putting you guys in the best position financially to be able to afford more sneakers in life and be able to retire early. So, if you're into monetizing and growing your business or brand, this is definitely the place that you want to be. Consider hitting that subscribe button and joining the fam. Now, before we get to breaking these bad boys down and going over all the crazy details, you know, we got to go over the history first. Back in 1988, the Air Jordan 3 released in four original colorways. The white cement, the black cement, the fire red, and the true blue. Since then, it feels like we have seen hundreds of different colorways over the years. But in the early 2000s, we got introduced to the Laser series. This is actually one of the first laser samples that we saw back in this time with the Air Jordan 4. And then eventually we got the Laser Jordan 4s in the white and the black colorway, which was a switch up of materials. And this is a whole another detailed review itself. But the man behind this concept of lasering on shoes was Mark Smith. And he created some of the most legendary sneakers of its time and still to this day. This was something that hadn't been done before. And he made sure that he pushed the limits on every single project that he worked on to eventually become the king of lasering on shoes, which then also turned into the lasering on the Air Jordan 20, which a lot of people know of. And then obviously the other historical models like the Air Jordan 5, the Jordan 4 for the anniversary, or even the Jordan 1. But over the years, those lasering started to slowly fall away from the game. And if you guys remember the laser Air Jordan 4s that came out about 5 years ago, that was a terrible job on that shoe. They didn't even actually technically laser the shoe. It was just a print on the shoe. So, to see this model come back with the actual lasering on the shoe and it being of a version that we saw from way back in the day, I'm very excited to break down all the details because they actually switched up the entire laser print on this model compared to the previous laser print that we saw on a lot of the other models. Now, when it comes to the Jordan 3 in particular, this is a model that had never been released to the public as a laser from the past. It was always rare samples of Jordan 3es in particular that were only produced for MJ, Tinker, or Mark Smith. And that's how he came about the mythical pair of laser Jordan 3s that was given to Michael Jordan for his birthday. And another thing a lot of people didn't know was when Mark Smith was producing these samples, he was actually making three different versions of these laser pairs. So, there was a Bulls colorway that was given to Jordan, a white and red colorway that would be given to Tinker, and then a brown or a blue pair that was made for Mark Smith. And I'm telling you right now, there's some pairs out there that the internet has still never seen before. And that's how they came up with the brown inspiration on the color of this pair, hinting back to Mark Smith's original days when he would make personal pairs for itself. There's a very rich history and a ton of details to decode as we go throughout this video. Trust me, we could compare these to all the other lasers from the past as well, which might also be another good video to do comparing them side by side, cuz this shoe is literally an updated time capsule from Michael Jordan's career from the past and his current life now and all the things that he loves to do. Many of you guys out there that are content creators or business owners that are trying to figure out how to make more money online. I want to give you guys the exact playbook that I would use if I was starting over today. And I mean the actual playbook that I used to take my business from 10,000 to 130,000 in the first year of creating content. I created the profit playbook to sit you down and look at where you are right now. It'll give you clarity on your biggest opportunities, but most importantly leave you with the actual plan of action. You got zero followers, you've already been creating, or you have a business and you're trying to scale it with social media. This process works the same for everybody. So, when you join, the first thing I want you to do is open the profit playbook. And there's a video that'll help walk you through it step by step so you're not trying to figure it out by yourself. Give yourself about a day or two to actually work through it. And this will break down where you are, what you're trying to build, and how your content will fit into it, and where the money will come from, but most importantly, what you should actually do next. That's where a lot of people get stuck. You don't need a 100 more ideas. There's plenty of those online. You need clarity on your next three to maybe five steps. And once you complete the profit playbook, you will have full clarity on what to do next. After that, you go execute. If you feel stuck, don't worry. You can ask questions inside of the community. You can message me inside of there, or you can bring them to the live workshop calls every Sunday. And that's why I built this more than just a course. I want you to actually have the plan, the support, and the community to help you get there. Where we have over 1,400 like-minded entrepreneurs. Take the next one to two, three days to fill out the profit playbook, build your action plan, and start executing. And if you hit a wall, don't worry. We'll be here to help you get through it. So, click the link down below in the description. Let's figure out exactly what your next move is. All right, I'll see you guys on the inside. Starting with the bottom of the shoe, you're going to notice you have your classic Air Jordan 3 bottom. You got this smoky brown bottom and you can see it's semi-t translansucent throughout those areas with your red pod in the front and your red Nike branding. So, you know, whenever you see the Nike branding on the bottom, you're going to have that Nike Air on the back tab as well. Now, going to the midsole, you're going to see a mixture of kind of the off-white eggshell color and then more of that tan on the back end on the top half. The air unit is going to have that off-white color to it as well. And then when it comes to the upper, you're going to have a mixture of a couple different materials and colors and then obviously the dominating factor, the lasering throughout the entirety of this shoe. We have a lot to cover on this one. So on the front and the back end where you always see your elephant print, they actually switched this up. So you have a brown suede here and here. A lot of people are saying this is more similar to your Mocha Air Jordan 3 color blocking, which I could see that. On the back end, on the collar right here, you have your perforated area with the same material. And then on the center of the foot right here, you'll notice you have that nice tan leather similar to the center of the tongue where they have this protector, which will get rid of that so you can see. Now, looking at the center of the foot, you'll see you have your chrome eye stays at the top and the bottom of the foot, your tan laces to go throughout, and then your tan tongue with the premium materials there, and your red jump man stitched in the center of that. Back into the tongue and the inside of the collar is going to be a premium brown suede, and then all throughout the upper is where the details and the storytelling continues. So, the two shoes are pretty much identical when it comes to the actual patterning that's on the shoe. One's going to be kind of flipped left to right, and the other one looks left to right as well. So, it's kind of like mirrored, I guess, if you want to say, but they kind of move things around just a little bit. So, technically, we could cover one of these shoes and get all the details out of both of them. So, like I was talking about before, when it comes to the Jordan Laser 4s in the past, they were more I would say spaced out and less detailed. I feel like this one has a lot more details and storytelling to it, but at the same time, both had amazing capturing of its time and its moments. So, for this one in particular, we're going to see a lot of details from Jordan's time on and off the basketball court from advertisements in campaigns, commercials, you name it, and a ton of different iconic logos as well when it comes to brand and merchandising. As we all know, Michael Jordan's big into fishing, motorsport, and golfing. So, you're going to see those different details as well. And then, obviously, the championship elements to it with the trophies and the years that he hit different accomplishments. There's references to iconic models during that time as well. From the Jordan 6 soles and the sevens, the Air Jordan 5 lasered on the side of the foot, the bottom of the outsole of the 23 on the Air Jordan 9, or the global hit like you see on the back of the Jordan 9 here around the front and on the toe, the classic Air Jordan family branding, which we have seen a lot when it comes to friends and family merch or sneakers that have been created for the friends and family inside of Jordan brand. You got the casino chips in here, the Nike Air branding. You got plays from the offense on the basketball court. The gate from Michael Jordan's home, the license plate from his old cars. Another one of my favorite hits is one of my favorite billboard and poster ads. Welcome to Sunny Portland. You need some shoes. That is one of my favorites of all time. As you guys know, I literally put that on a t-shirt and I wear it all the time. Speaking of that, shopdnow.com. As I look at this shoe, bro, there's so many different references to the steakhouse as you see right here on the toe. I haven't even made it to the front end. On the front of the shoe, I'm still looking at the side panel. You got the 91 on there, which I'm hyped about that cuz that was his first championship. You got the hand signal of the three championships like he had in the iconic image. The Sandy Bros reference. This is also like a multi-layered reference because if you guys don't know, the Sandy Bros actually work at Nike and Jordan brand. And they were a part of this lasering from way back in the day. I remember talking to them about that. So, there's multiple references to that and also the lost and found Air Jordan ones. If you guys remember on the receipt on there, you got quotes like focus on the positive. We got a fighter jet on here with the reference to the Air Jordan 5. You got the big H on here for Big H from Jordan Brand. Shout out to H White. You got Jam spelled out. You got the 23 with the wings logo over here, bro. There is so many crazy de I'm just like taking a crazy trip down memory lane, bro. You got references to Spike Lee, different team members on Jordan Brand and inside the family, bro. I could just I I'm giving you guys a lot from this right now, but again, there's so much to unpack. And this is what I love about sneakers like this. This is something that you can sit back and look at and just continue to look at it again and again and find new details on the shoe. That's the funnest part about being a collector, especially if you don't know every reference on the shoe. you get to go and search it and look it up and watch YouTube videos like this, whatever it may be, and learn more about the sneaker, not just a regular plain blank colorway, and you just get another one. And it's cool to have in the collection. Like, this is the type of stuff that made me fall in love with shoes back in the day. And why I'm so excited to have these now. And as you guys see, I still have my fours and my fives and other stuff in my collection over the years because those were like the key moments of collecting for me at least back in those days and during that time. And I want to make sure that we keep that alive. And I'm glad that Jordan Brand is doing something like this to help keep that alive now in the current time with the new updated version of MJ, his life, the brand, where it's going, and all the memories over the years from the 80s, '9s, 2000s now in the current era. So again, when I saw this shoe, at the end of the day, 100% cop. Had to have these in my collection. And as you can see on foot, them things look good, too, boy. Also, if you guys haven't already, make sure you guys check out the socks. I'll link those down below in the description. And I'll link the shoes if you guys want to pick them up. You can click on them here directly into the video or underneath the video, you should see the products pop up there. Now, going to the back end of the shoe right here, you're going to notice this flap doesn't actually flap on the back end. It's just all fully stitched in. And then you have your lasering all throughout that with your white leather. And again, I think they did a really good job on the actual leather and the material on the shoe. You can see how it has that tumble to it and feels nice and soft on there. And overall, I think attention to detail, story, concept, and everything along with it. The only thing I could say is if they had a retro card in a better box, but besides that, the actual shoe, I feel like this has to land in my top 10 for sneakers of the year. I don't know where it's going to land yet. I got to let it grow on me, but for now, definitely in my top 10. Now, when it comes to the insoles, you're going to see you got your Dream Cell insole, all black. You have your white sock liner with your red Nike Air branding. These also come with an additional pair of brown laces to go with the shoes. No special hang tags or anything like that. I feel like they definitely put the work into the actual upper and materials, so I'm fine with that element. But my question to you guys is, how do you feel about the shoe? Let me know down below in the comment section. Now, you guys know I always post a poll on my story to see what everybody else thinks. So, let's go ahead and check out the results. 68% of the people chose fire and 32% of the people chose trash. And I get it. This is a disconnect from multiple eras. I understand that there's a lot of different eras of sneaker heads in between now what they saw for lasers lasers before which was again like five years ago which was terrible and then the anniversary set was not as good as the original set. So I could see that. Now the color way again not for everybody. People are over the Trevor Scott Brown or they've gotten their color fix out of it. They want something regular which is everybody just goes black and white all the time. So for me I'm like I like the switch up. But I get it. I understand why it doesn't check some people's boxes. Some people saying it's ugly. It's too much going on. And I'm like, bro, y'all are just so disconnected from the game. Like, you the fact that you don't appreciate this shoe is crazy to me. The fact that you can't recognize the history and nostalgia that's put inside of this shoe is crazy to me. Again, you could not like it, but you could still appreciate what's going on with it. And for people to just be straight up disrespecting the shoe, wild to me. But again, I know it's not going to be everybody's top sneaker of the year, all those things. I'm not saying that. I think for me it's one of those top ones for my category based off of what I like and everything and that's been tied to it over the years. So yeah, I don't know. I'm interested to see what you guys think. And and again, there's also the other side of the world that's in my boat that's like, yo, they did an amazing job. I personally feel that if this was a one of 23 PE made only for friends and family and all that type of stuff, next thing you know this is a 7 $8,000 shoe and everybody's going crazy and they want it. But because it's available to the public, it changes the narrative a little bit. This could have easily been on like we saw Jason Tatum's foot and everything like that and only stayed that way and then next thing you know everybody's hyped up about it. They want it. They're trying to get the shoe and d but because it's not selling out, you know how that goes. People just following the trends based off of what everybody else feels. So, please tell me how you feel truly, honestly, without the bias and all the other things in between. What are your honest thoughts and impressions? And if you don't like it, tell me why you don't like it. Don't just say it's trash. Like, tell me why you think it's trash. And I I told you why I like it, right? Let's explain that a little bit more. I would love to hear why you don't like the shoe or why you do like the shoe. So, with that being said, I hope you guys enjoyed this video. Again, hit that subscribe button. We're on the road to 500,000 subscribers now, and I cannot wait to show you guys another review soon. And I think we might have to sit down and dissect these with some lasers from the past. >> Hey, just a quick reminder again, the link is down below in the description to join the community if you have not already.
