Video summary
The Long Beach Public Library is launching its Summer Reading 2024 program with the inspiring theme "Adventure Begins At Your Library," encouraging participants to use books as a gateway to explore the wider world. The initiative sets simple yet effective rules based on age groups: children aged zero to twelve must read five books to qualify for a prize, while teenagers and adults aged thirteen and older only need to read one book. This structure ensures that readers of all ages can participate and earn rewards, fostering a love for reading across the community throughout the summer months.
To celebrate these achievements, the library is offering an exciting array of prizes that go beyond simple bookmarks. Participants will have the chance to win books, Kawaii gift baskets, traveler gift baskets, and gift cards. Additionally, lucky winners can receive passes to popular local attractions such as the Natural History Museum in Los Angeles County, the Santa Ana Zoo, a skating rink, and the aquarium. For those who complete the entire program, there is an opportunity to win special library merchandise, with three exceptionally fortunate children selected to become librarians for a day at the Billy Je King Main Library.
In addition to reading challenges and prizes, the summer schedule is packed with entertaining live performances designed to keep families engaged from June 8th through August 10th. The lineup includes magic shows, juggling acts, comedy routines, balloon twisting, and animal encounters that bring a sense of wonder to the library environment. Furthermore, the Long Beach Symphony Orchestra will be hosting their famous instrument petting zoo, allowing visitors to interact with musical instruments in a unique and educational setting. These events aim to create a vibrant atmosphere that complements the reading goals of the program.
To get involved, interested individuals can sign up by visiting the library's website at www.longbeach.beanstack.org or by downloading the BeanStack tracker app for their phones or tablets. Alternatively, participants can visit any of the eleven open library locations to register in person. The program is made possible through the generous support of the Long Beach Public Library Foundation, Friends of the Long Beach Public Library, and the Port of Long Beach. By combining reading incentives with fun activities and community partnerships, the library invites everyone to join this summer adventure and discover the endless possibilities that begin right at their local library.
