We are here today to to celebrate and to support our beautiful young ladies in the in the pre prestigious 50 plus golden pageant with the with the theme age of excellence in a challenging world under the patronage of her excellency Dame Plet Louise Governor General Amerita in support of Helpage National Council of and for older persons. These ladies are all queens in their own communities. Um, Mrs. Juan, Mrs. Frances Severin representing Babono, Mrs. Sheena Sherry representing Moshi. Mrs. Kim Dennis Mondesi representing Gile. Mrs. is Beverly O'Brien representing Lclary and I have to extend my deepest apologies for Miss Clary Catalina Augustine Fontineel who was supposed to represent Labry but due to her husband being ill she's unable to take part in the pageent So let us all remember her, remember them in our prayers. We have to accept the things we cannot change. The four other ladies will compete for the coveted title of of Miss 50 plus pageant 2026. Let us applaud for all of them. But you may applaud. You may applaud louder for your favorite competitor. May the best one win and the blessings of God. Um I guess you understand the assignments and um you know whatever happens here today goes back and we like to support things like that Suzanne because you might say before you you blink twice the time you see a time fly you keep speaking for me >> because before you blink twice you're going to be touching that age group there and you going to want the golden years and you're going to want to make sure at least you know there are supporting entities because let me tell you already started experiencing See them children start to do their own thing already. And I know that some of the proceeds from this pageant will be going back to support initiatives and entities like such. So give yourself a round of applause cuz you're part of something amazing. All right, that being said, ladies and gentlemen, distinguished guests, and most importantly, our shining participants who are in the back, I just wanted to give a few remarks on behalf of the Department of Equity, Social Justice, Gender, and older persons. Um, tonight we gather not only to admire elegance and talent, but to honor the wisdom, the resilience, and lasting contributions of our older people. Right. This pageant apparently opens our calendars for the for of activities for the observation of international day of older persons. You all know that day. No well clearly we not doing enough to bring that day to light to you all. So 1st of October start looking out. We will have activities. We will have things happening. All right. Today we will set the tone for the season of recognition, gratitude and celebration of older persons. And we honor each participant for stepping forward with courage and grace. and we thank all of you for joining us in this tribute. I am a grateful mother of three remarkable young adults, a qualified primary school teacher with over 15 years of dedicated service. My platform this evening is simple yet powerful. Let us all remain healthy, helpful, and happy. Let us build communities where our children are inspired, our adults are encouraged, and our elderly are celebrated, not barely remembered. So they tell me, Francis, you need to do that product because all pain in my body is coming out. Even my children who have fever, it's coming out. So you need to go deeper into that. And that's how I start doing more and more and to put it out. Wonderful. Now your services extend far and wide. You started in the year two little people tell you auntie Franc you understand? So you need to be doing more right and you decided to go on there. Since then like we said you have expanded. You have been reaching people from all across the globe. How do you find time for relaxation? Okay. I work Monday to Saturday. Sunday I have lunch with my children. Then I go to church before lunch. I go to church. I believe in my church. Sports has been a great value in my life both personally and professionally. My children, they both are net ballers. What inspired you to take part in this particular one? >> Can you repeat for me? >> You have been participating in pageantry for quite some time now. What inspired you to be part of this one? >> Well, first of all, when I was asked to partake in this pageant, it was to raise funds for the elderly. So hopefully everyone will dip into their pockets and give a little more because we're doing this for the Helen home at Llair for the initiative on for the construction of rooms for residents. Secondly, I'm representing my community grossly. What's better than that? Talent, culture, St. generation hospitality, hard work and enthusiasm and giving of myself and hoping to uplift my community into doing whatever they inspire, whatever they dream to do. It never ends at 50, it matures at 50. Oh, okay. And guess what? You have won many hats as well, Keem. being involved in community activities while developing your yourself professionally. What advice would you give to young adults in your community for developing life skills? I'll do it again. You have be you have worn many hats being involved in community activities while developing yourself professionally. What advice would you give to young adults in your community for developing life skills? >> Okay, success it is earned. You have to persevere. You have to gain education and continuous education. I educate myself all the time. My husband always says, "I don't know what you're doing it for, but I'll tell you something. Every skill that I want, everything that I'd love to do, I have a sewing machine. I haven't used it up to now, but I would love to finish learning to sew. So, develop your skills, develop your dream, it's a purpose. And anytime anything knocks you down, get up, dust yourself off, and start again. I thank you. >> Thank you very much, Kim. My looks are nothing special. My face reveals my age. My body shows some wear and tear and my energy's not the same. Too often my memory fails me and I lose things all the time. One minute I know what I plan to do and the next it may just slip my mind. I try hard to avoid my mirror. There are things I would rather not see. And even those times when I just catch a glimpse, I can no longer recognize me. The things I used to do with ease can now cause aches and pains. And the quality of things I do will never be quite the same. I always compare my older self to those younger versions of me. And I know I'm wasting too much time missing who I used to be. But the thing that really makes me sad, but the thing that really makes me sad is despite what people see underneath my tattered and worn out shell, I'm still the same old me. My heart can still feel endless love and at times it can still ache. My heart can fill with so much joy and then it can suddenly break. My soul can still feel sympathy and longs for forgiveness and peace. And there are times its light shines boldly through and times when it longs for release. It's true. Maybe now that I'm older, feeling lonely may be status quo, but it also has made me more willing to forgive and let past conflicts go. So maybe, so maybe to some I look ugly and old, a person who barely exists, I'm still quite aware of the beauty inside and my value should not be dismissed. So although not as strong and no beauty, it's true, I'm still here and want so much to live. And I know that there's no one in this world quite like me and no one who has more to give.
