Video summary
The 2027 Volvo XC60 is celebrated as the best-selling Volvo of all time, having surpassed 2.7 million units sold globally since its inception. This luxury mid-size SUV competes directly with established rivals like the BMW X3, Audi Q5, and Lexus RX, offering a Swedish alternative that balances performance with safety. The vehicle is available in three distinct trim levels: Core starting at $51,095, Plus at $55,695, and Ultra at $61,045. Despite the price differences between trims, the powertrain remains consistent across the lineup, featuring a 2-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine paired with a mild hybrid system that delivers 247 horsepower and 266 pound-feet of torque. This setup sends power to all four wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission, achieving a 0 to 60 mph time of approximately 6.5 seconds while maintaining fuel efficiency ratings of 23 mpg in the city and 29 on the highway.
Performance characteristics are further refined through selectable drive modes that adjust steering feel and driving dynamics to suit various preferences. Drivers can choose between soft and firm steering modes, with the firm setting providing a heavier, more responsive feel that enhances the vehicle's playful nature, akin to a sport sedan. The braking system utilizes 13.6-inch ventilated front discs and 12.6-inch solid rear discs, resulting in a stopping distance of 118 feet, which is considered excellent for an SUV. Suspension duties are handled by a double wishbone front setup and an integral link rear suspension, delivering a perfectly fine ride quality that absorbs road imperfections well. Additionally, the cabin offers a quiet environment at highway speeds, and visibility is enhanced by features such as rain-sensing wipers, a head-up display, and foldable second-row headrests that eliminate blind spots when not in use.
Inside the cabin, the XC60 showcases high-quality materials and unique Swedish craftsmanship, highlighted by a crystal gear shifter made by Orrefors and body-colored fender surrounds that elevate its aesthetic appeal. The interior features a standard panoramic sunroof, LED lighting controlled via touch on the ceiling, and leather seats with available massage functions for both front and rear passengers. Technology integration is robust, including an 11.2-inch touchscreen with standard factory navigation, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and a Harman Kardon 14-speaker surround sound system exclusive to the Ultra trim. Safety remains the cornerstone of the vehicle's identity, earning it the IIHS Top Safety Pick Plus designation and equipping it with an extensive array of active and passive safety features, including autonomous emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, and advanced driver attention systems designed to protect occupants from various hazards.

>> What's up, guys? Welcome back to another
one. If you are new to this channel, I
am Goldpony and [music] I do new car,
truck, SUV reviews on YouTube. And
today, we are in the brand new 2027
Volvo XC60, courtesy of Younger Volvo in
Hagerstown, Maryland. For more
information on their inventory, please
feel free to check out the link in the
description box below. So, we're in this
one today because this is a luxury
mid-size SUV from Sweden, which are
extremely rare. And the XC60 has now
sold over 2.7 million units globally,
which makes this the best-selling Volvo
of all time, which is pretty cool. And
in case you were curious, the XC60
competes with the BMW X3, Audi Q5, and
Lexus RX, just to name a few. So,
ultimately in this video, we will be
testing out and going over everything
about this one, from acceleration to
braking, steering feel, ride quality,
sound system, exhaust clip, all that fun
stuff. So, having said all of that, what
do you guys say? Let's just go ahead and
jump right into it. And as always,
let's start with pricing. And so, there
will be a few different configurations
for the 2027 XC60. You got the Core trim
level starting at $51,095,
which is a $1,395
bump from the 2026 model year. You got
Plus starting at $55,695,
and lastly, Ultra starting at $61,045.
But, regardless of the trim level that
you go with, the power plant on the XC60
is going to be the same. Powering the
beast is a 2-liter turbocharged
four-cylinder with a mild hybrid system.
It puts out 247 horsepower, 266 pound
feet of torque. Power sent to all four
wheels through an eight-speed automatic.
0 to 60 time is going to come in at
approximately 6.5 seconds, which is
pretty respectable there. With MPG
numbers coming in at 23 in the city, 29
on the highway, taking premium unleaded
fuel. With that said, before we do any
kind of fun acceleration test here in
the XC60, I do want to mention to you
guys the drive modes. So, the drive
modes are accessed through the
infotainment screen. And essentially,
you have steering feel modes. So, you
got soft and firm for the steering feel.
So, the firm is going to be the heavier
weight to the steering. The soft is
going to be kind of the looser feel to
the steering, more like a traditional
SUV. And then, you got the off-road
driving mode and the standard driving
mode. So, more than likely, just leave
it on standard for that one. But, that's
the way the driving modes are set up in
the new XC60. So, now that I've got all
of that out of the way, what do you guys
say? Let's go ahead and find a
straightaway. Let's put the acceleration
here to the test. And let's see how
quickly we can get our new 2027 XC60
here up to speed. All right, we're
sitting here at a red light waiting for
it to turn green. I'm just going to
start here. 3 2 1
go.
That's not bad.
You're not going to have any issues
emerging onto the highway. That was
pretty darn decent. There was maybe ever
so slight turbo lag at the very
beginning cuz this is a turbocharged
engine after all. But, that's definitely
plenty of an acceleration emerging onto
the highway. So, that definitely works
for me. But, anyways, to go along with
that acceleration, as always, braking is
equally important. So, up front, you
will find 13.6 in ventilated front
discs. In the back, 12.6 in solid rear
discs. As far as that XC60's stopping
distance goes, comes in at 118 ft.
There's nothing wrong with that. That's
a sport sedan number. Overall, as far as
braking feel goes,
definitely a little bit on the firmer
side of things. It's not a soft braking
feel. I can tell you that. Um and that
makes sense because 118 ft, that's a
very respectable number. Like I said,
typically, that's what a sport sedan
comes in at. And typically, you got like
125 in SUVs. So, nothing wrong with
that. So, then touching on suspension
and handling, up front, you're going to
get a double wishbone type front
suspension. In the back, integral link
rear suspension, front and rear
stabilizer bars. Overall, as far as ride
quality goes, it's actually been
perfectly fine in our short little test
drive here today. So, definitely
shouldn't have any issues with that. As
far as steering feel goes, I will say it
is a noticeable difference depending
upon the drive mode that you put it in.
So, I still have it in that firm
steering feel. It's a much heavier
weight to it. So, it instantly points
you in the direction that you want to
go. I love it in that firm steering feel
mode. I would never take it out of that
because the steering feel it's so
playful. It's a lot more fun to drive
there. Now, if you wanted a more
traditional looser steering feel, you
got the soft mode for that as well. So,
it kind of caters to everybody there. Uh
as far as cabin noise goes, this is the
perfect test. I'm going 57 mph right
now. Be quiet here for a second.
It's perfectly fine. I definitely don't
have any issues with the cabin noise,
and that's plenty on point there. They
take a look at rear visibility looking
at my rearview mirror. This is a
decently shaped SUV, so you definitely
should not have any issues with that.
Also, like how the second row headrests
fold down if they are not in use. That
isn't always the case, so that gives you
even better visibility. Like the second
row headrests don't even exist. So, I
think that's absolutely wonderful. But,
let's touch on forward visibility a
little bit. Rain-sensing windshield
wipers do come standard on the Volvo
XC60, so that's pretty cool. Whenever
this thing detects any kind of mist or
rainfall, it's going to automatically
turn on these windshield wipers for you.
Kind of like automatic headlights, it's
one less thing you got to worry about
there. And I'm also looking at a head-up
display kind of. It's kind of hard to
see through polarized sunglasses, but if
I take these off, it's definitely super
bright. I got my speed, and I got my
speed limit just there to the right
helping me keep my eyes better on the
road so you can better enjoy the drive
here in the XC60. But, that pretty much
[laughter] wraps out the performance
segment of this review, you guys. Let's
now go ahead and take a look at the
exterior now of our brand new 2027
Volvo XC60. All right, so here she is,
you guys, the new 2027 Volvo XC60
finished in denim blue. In case you were
curious of our exact exterior color
name, but as always, let's go ahead and
start with where the XC60 is made. This
is the fun part, taking a look at the
VIN. First character is the letter Y,
indicating that the XC60 is built and
assembled in Sweden, specifically
Torslanda, Sweden, I think is what it
said. So, I don't know how to say it,
but you get it. Anyways, let's go ahead
and start up front in this one. Front
grille was reworked for last year, so
it's essentially going to stay the same
this year. You got that Volvo accent
across the middle of it, and it was
slightly larger for last year, so again,
that carries over to 2027 unchanged. To
the sides, LED headlights with LED
Thor's hammer daytime running lights.
Get the automatic feature with those.
You also get automatic high beams. So,
if you have your high beams on at night
and it senses a vehicle coming in the
opposite direction, it's going to
automatically dim them back to low
beams, and when that vehicle is gone,
it's going to automatically bounce it
back up to high beams for you there.
Actually, let me get up a little bit
closer cuz I did want to show you guys
one more thing. see that cutout just
underneath of the headlights there? If
you turn the windshield wiper fluid on
to clean your windshield, it's also
going to pop out. That little cutout is
going to pop out a headlight washer with
headlight washer fluid to also clean
your headlights. So, that's a Volvo
thing, man. That's a safety thing to
make sure that you got perfect
visibility at night. You got to
appreciate that. That That's so Volvo
right there. You got to love that. But,
anyways, to the bottom corners there,
you got LED fog lights then as well.
But, that pretty much rounds out the
front end of the XC60. Let's now go
ahead and make our way to the side. As
we now step out of this VR round to the
side of this one, gloss black or silver
roof rails, depending upon the
configuration that you go with. Gloss
black or silver window surrounds as
well. Rear privacy glass does come
standard. Taking a look at the side
mirrors, they are body colored or gloss
black, again, depending upon the
configuration that you go with. They
will be power adjustable. They will be
heated, and you're going to get LED
integrated turn signals then as well.
One of the cool things about the XC60
and really all Volvos is you also get
body-colored fender surrounds and side
skirts. And I only emphasize that
because even a lot of luxury automakers
will put matte black side skirts and
fender surrounds, but it's such a more
high-end look with the body-colored
finishes. That's all I'm saying. So, I
do appreciate you, Volvo, for making
those body-colored, but then take a look
down to the wheel setup. 18-in double
five-spoke alloys for the core, 19-in
diamond-cut alloys for the plus, and
then 20-in diamond-cut alloys for our
ultra trim level we have with us here
today. I don't think I said that yet. We
got the ultra trim level, so I'm going
to be able to show you guys pretty much
everything. But that pretty much rounds
out the side profile. Let's now go ahead
and swing around to the back. All right,
so now let's wheel around to the back of
the XC60. Starting all the way to the
top, body-colored shark fin antenna.
Just below that, you got the rear
spoiler with the integrated brake light.
Just below that, you got the rear window
wiper. Quite large rear window wiper
back there as well. I think it looks
good, but you got the Volvo lettering
spelled out horizontally, of course. LED
tail lights do come standard in typical
Volvo fashion there. And then just below
it all, there are dual exhaust outlets.
However, they are tucked away
underneath, so kind of a clean look. I
probably would prefer them integrated
into the rear bumper, but still you do
have dual exhaust outlets. So, having
said that, I do believe you guys know
what we have to do next here. As always,
here is that exhaust clip.
All right, so now let's wheel around to
the back of the XC60. When it comes to
opening that rear liftgate, it's
actually a hands-free power liftgate.
That does come standard for all trim
levels across the board, so that's
pretty cool. There's a button on the key
fob, of course. It's on the side of the
key fob, and there's a rubberized button
on the liftgate itself then as well. But
once opened up, cargo capacity behind
that second row comes in at 22.4 cubic
feet. If that was not enough space, of
course the second row does fold down.
It's going to bump that up to 63.3 cubic
feet then. Got some cargo lighting back
there. There's grocery bag hooks,
tie-down anchors, a first-aid kit.
Typical Volvo fashion, they always want
you to be safe. 12-V power outlet in the
back. You got a cargo cover in there. If
you were to lift up underneath of that
cargo floor, you will find a spare tire,
which you guys know I always love to see
as opposed to the fix-a-flat. So, that's
a big win for me. But then making our
way up to the rear legroom, that comes
in at 38 in even. For reference, I'm an
even 6 ft tall. This is how much space I
had in the back seats there. Get a rear
center armrest with cup holders. Got
rear ventilation back there. Dual rear
USB charging ports, and then heated rear
seats are going to be available. They do
not come standard, but they are there if
you wanted them. But, then making our
way up to the front seats, this was the
best, guys. Here's why. Leather seating
for the Plus and the Ultra trim levels.
Power adjustable front seats do come
standard. Heated front seats do come
standard. Ventilated front seats are
going to come with the Ultra. Power
adjustable passenger seat for the Ultra.
Of course, you get the flag of Sweden
found on the passenger seat in typical
Volvo fashion there. And of course, I
had the massaging seats on my entire
drive so far here today. So, you got to
appreciate the massaging seats whenever
they're available. So, I was a big fan
of the seat comfort just for the
massaging seats reason. Honestly,
they're not the best. Like, they're not
the most comfortable seats, but then you
add the massaging part of it, and then
it all makes up for it basically. That's
the way that works. But, then making our
way to the steering wheel, it is tilt
and telescoping. It is a two-tone
leather wrapped, which I always
appreciate. That's kind of a Volvo thing
as well. And uh heated steering wheel
also comes standard, so I liked that.
Then making our way to the start up, let
me start by showing you guys the key
here. You got your Volvo logo on the one
side. All of your buttons are on the
side of the key. Um lock, unlock, and
the button to pop the rear liftgate
there. But, it is all keyless entry with
a turn knob start. So, you turn it to
the right to start it. You never turn it
to the left. Whatever you do, do not
turn it to the left. You know why?
Because you can't. You turn it to the
right to start and turn it to the right
to stop it. I'm just messing with you
guys, but anyways, once started up,
12.3-in digital gauge cluster does come
standard and it's pretty darn good
looking. There's two rectangular buttons
on the right hand side of the steering
wheel and that's how you put the map
display up there, which by the way is
brought to you by Google Maps. You got
your speed odometer all the way to your
left, tachometer is on your right.
There's outside temperature to the top
and of course how many miles you have
left until you hit empty at the very
bottom. So, it's a pretty darn good
looking gauge cluster. Wouldn't have
minded a bit more customization to it.
Maybe Volvo make some different looks to
your gauges, maybe some throwback gauge
clusters from Volvos back in the day.
There's so much customization you can do
with a digital gauge cluster. This
doesn't look bad, don't get me wrong. I
like this look, but I would like some
more customization because then you can
appeal to more people. But anyways,
let's now go ahead and make our way to
overall interior quality. A panoramic
sunroof does come standard for all trim
levels. You get some LED interior
lighting and all you got to do is touch
the ceiling in this thing, the the
lights I mean. And they're going to turn
on and off, so there's no physical
buttons. That's pretty cool. A frameless
rear view mirror with Homelink controls
for up to three different garage doors
on the bottom portion of that mirror.
Four-zone climate control for the ultra
trim level, so driver, passenger and
both rear passengers can set their own
individual temperatures back there. A
dual-zone climate control though coming
with the core and the plus. You get some
matte wood trim and it's probably the
lightest color wood trim I've ever seen,
so it's very beachy. I like that.
Wireless phone charger located just in
front of the shifter. A crystal shifter
by Orrefors, which is LED backlit as
well. That's probably the best part
about the interior. I absolutely love
that. It's so unique. Nobody else is
doing that. And by the way, Orrefors is
a glass company based in Sweden. So,
everything about this car is from
Sweden. That's pretty darn cool because
no other manufacturers besides maybe I
think Koenigsegg, I could be wrong
there, are from Sweden. So, I think the
only thing I would change about the
interior would be to add a navy blue or
some type of a blue interior like Volvo
used to do back in the day. Um I know
you can get this light color, this
blonde interior, which I think is what
it's called. It It looks pretty darn
good. I I like that, but would have
loved to have seen a blue interior. I'm
just saying, but you got some aluminum
speaker covers as well. We'll be testing
out that sound system in a little bit
here, but speaking of, let's go ahead
and make our way to the infotainment
screen here. An 11.2-in touchscreen
display does come standard. You get
Bluetooth and audio streaming, Android
Auto, Apple CarPlay, factory navigation
system, believe it or not, comes
standard as well. You can check out your
climate control settings up there. You
can check out your driving statistics.
You can check out your driving modes.
You can adjust your massaging seat
functions cuz there's different types of
massages, different intensities, things
like that. So, that's always fun to play
around with, I guess. And of course, you
got your radio information up there as
well. So, when it comes to the sound
systems, there are two of them. So, you
get 10 speakers for the core and the
plus trim levels, but then the ultra we
have with us here today is going to give
you a 14-speaker Harman Kardon surround
sound system. So, having said that,
let's go ahead and turn on the radio.
Let's see what we got playing this
morning and let's test out the clarity
of this one.
>> [music]
>> Actually pretty good. Plenty of bass
there, plenty of clarity. Um never heard
of Teddy Swims before, but I do
appreciate the fact that he knows how to
swim. That's always a good thing. But
yeah, that's a plenty good sound system
for this thing. And again, they have
aluminum speaker covers, so that makes
it even better. But last thing I wanted
to mention to you guys on that
infotainment screen is when you do put
the XC60 in reverse, you will find a
rearview camera coming standard across
the board. You also get that 360-degree
monitor there at the very top of the
screen as well, which is always nice.
But that as always is going to lead us
into safety. And so, starting with the
best part of course the xc60 is an IIHS
top safety pick plus which is the very
highest designation given by IIHS. So
that pretty much says it all right
there. That's what Volvo's are known for
is their safety and the xc60 is got it.
That's all I'm saying. Front side side
curtain airbags do come standard you get
a driver's knee airbag as well and the
back you got latch aka lower anchors and
tethers to children for the rear car
seats. Rear child door locks, tire
pressure monitoring system but also
coming standard the fun stuff. Blind
spot monitoring system with rear cross
traffic alert, autonomous emergency
braking, collision avoidance assist with
pedestrian, cyclist, and large animal
detection. They had to put that for the
moose of course. Driver attention
monitoring system, lane departure
warning, lane keep assist, rear parking
sensors, and run off road mitigation
then as well. So overall when it comes
to my final thoughts of Volvo xc60 of
course is known for incredible safety so
that's the first thing I got to mention.
Great interior quality especially the
crystal shifter by Orrefors. I love
that. I love that it's LED backlit. I
can't really show it to you guys right
now cuz it's a super nice sunny day
today but uh when you're driving this
thing at night that's going to look dang
good. I love this steering feel firm
mode that was definitely a lot of fun.
It made driving this thing more fun.
I'll put it that way that that heavier
feel to the steering made it feel more
like a sport sedan kind of. I think the
only thing that bothers me ever so
slightly now is uh a little bit of turbo
lag when I hit the gas there but that
could be just because I'm being spoiled
by electric cars lately and the
acceleration on those is just
instantaneous absolutely insane but
maybe that doesn't bother you so it's
all good and yeah I think that's about
it. Let me know what you guys think of
the xc60 in the comments section below.
I do love reading your comments. That's
about it for this one you guys. Thank
