Video summary
The 2027 Mercedes-Benz S-Class introduces significant updates across its powertrain, technology, and standard features, marking a major evolution for the luxury sedan line. Pricing reflects these changes with the base S500 dropping nearly $7,000 to start at $112,550, while the top-tier S580 tested in this review sees a modest increase to around $134,600 before options. Under the hood, both models receive power upgrades; the S500 now utilizes a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six producing 442 horsepower, whereas the S580 features a potent 4.0-liter V8 generating 530 horsepower. Beyond raw power, the vehicle incorporates substantial technological advancements, including rear-wheel steering as standard equipment, which enhances agility, and a comprehensive suite of new exterior colors totaling seventy options.
Inside the cabin, the focus is on luxury, comfort, and cutting-edge connectivity. The interior features an expansive 39-inch dashboard display that integrates a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster with a Tesla-inspired layout showing surrounding traffic data. A standout addition is the large passenger screen located above the glove box, which functions like a smartphone for rear-seat entertainment or allows front passengers to stream content from services like YouTube and Disney Plus. The ride quality remains exceptional thanks to standard adaptive damping air suspension and acoustic laminated glass that ensures one of the quietest cabins possible. Additional comfort features include 12-way power-adjustable front seats with massage functions, heated and ventilated rear seating, and an ambient lighting system offering sixty-four color choices.
Safety and driver assistance systems are robust, featuring a high-definition rearview camera with automatic reversing, advanced parking assist that can maneuver the car into spots automatically, and a comprehensive list of active safety tools like lane keep assist and emergency stop assist. The exterior design has been refreshed with new full-LED headlights featuring the Mercedes star pattern, redesigned taillights, and integrated exhaust outlets for a cleaner look. While the vehicle offers immense space with over 43 inches of rear legroom and a power-operated trunk, the reviewer notes that the extensive list of options can quickly push the final price well beyond the base MSRP, potentially reaching $160,000 or more depending on the selected configurations and add-ons.

What's up you guys? Welcome back to
another one. If you are new to this
channel, I am Gold Pony. [music] I do
car, truck, SUV reviews on YouTube. And
today we are in the brand new 2027
MercedesBenz S-Class, courtesy of
Mercedes-Benz of Haggartown in
Haggartown, Maryland. For more
information on their inventory, please
feel free to check out the link in the
description box below. So, I am super
excited to be in this one today. There's
so much new for the 2027 model year,
including more power for 2027. Rear
wheel steering is now standard. You get
a ton more tech, including this
passenger screen over here. We'll get
more into that at the interior portion
of this review. You got plenty of new
exterior colors. You got new headlights.
You got new tail lights. And of course,
this thing is known for incredible ride
quality as well. I can tell you that
right off the bat. I've already
experienced that in my 10-second drive
so far. So ultimately this video we will
be testing out and going over everything
about this one from acceleration to
braking, steering feel, ride quality,
sound system, exhaust clip, all that fun
stuff. So having said all of that, what
do you guys say? Let's just go ahead and
jump right into it. And as always, let's
start with pricing. And so there's
essentially two different configurations
for the 2027 S-Class. You got the S500
starting at $112,550,
which believe it or not is nearly a
$7,000 drop from the 2026 model year.
However, then there is the S580, which
is the one we are in today. This one
starts at $134,600,
which is around a $3,900 bump for the
2027 model year. So, I guess it depends
on which configuration you go with, but
I think ours is specked out at around
140,000 in case anybody was curious. So,
as you can imagine with those two
different configurations, there are two
different power plants then for this
one. Both of them get a little bit more
power. So, 3 L turbocharged inline
six-cylinder with a mild hybrid system
for that S500. That puts out 442
horsepower, 443 lb feet of torque, which
by the way is 30 lb feet more than last
year. And that power sent to all four
wheels through a N-speed automatic with
paddle shifters. 0 to 60 time for that
one. 4.3 seconds, 4.5 seconds for last
year. Top speed 130 mph with MPG numbers
coming in at 20 in the city, 29 on the
highway, taking premium unlimited fuel.
But so then you have the S580 being the
one we are in today. This one is powered
by a 4 L bturbo V8 with a mild hybrid
system putting out 530 horsepower, which
is 34 more horsepower than last year.
533 lb feet of torque, which is just 17
lb feet of torque bump. That power being
sent to all four wheels through a
N-speed automatic with paddle shifters.
0 to 60 time for this configuration, 3.9
seconds. Top speed 130 mph with MPG
numbers coming in at 16 in the city, 24
in the highway. taking premium unled
fuel. So, before we do any kind of fun
acceleration or paddle shifter test here
in the S580, I did want to mention to
you guys the drive modes. And so,
there's a new dynamic select button for
2027. Not that that's a huge deal, but I
did notice it cuz I'm pretty used to
Mercedes at this point. So, if you press
that, you got comfort, eco, sport, and
individual adjusting things like the
shift points, the throttle response, the
steering sensitivity, and the suspension
settings then as well. So, now having
got all of that out of the way, what do
you guys say? Let's go ahead and find a
straightaway. Let's put the paddle
shifters and acceleration here to the
test. I want to see how quickly the
paddle shifters are going to react for
us here. And of course, let's see how
quickly we can get the new S-Class here
up to speed. All right, so I got it in
manual shift mode here. Let's see if it
actually holds it real quick. Looks like
it's going to. All right, let's go.
Dang. Dang.
[laughter]
This thing is dang quick. Like it
doesn't feel like it's the boat of a
vehicle that it is. Like this throws you
in the back of this pillow headrest
right here. I have absolutely insane
acceleration for as big of a vehicle as
this is. The paddle shifters are
lightning quick as well. So I got
absolutely no issues with that. That's a
heck of an acceleration. Paddle shifters
are great. They feel high quality as
well as you would expect in a vehicle
that costs $140,000. So no issues with
that. I absolutely love that. And by the
way, there's a lot new with the engine.
I already mentioned the power of course,
but there's a new flat plane crankshaft.
There's updated exhaust ports, new turbo
components or revised turbo components I
should say and revised injection system
then as well. So, a lot new with the
power. So, yeah, absolutely no issues
when it comes to acceleration in this
thing. But anyways, to go along with
that, acceleration as always, braking is
equally important. So, four-wheel
ventilated disc brakes do of course come
standard. As far as braking feel goes,
it's soft. It is so soft. And I guess
that's to be expected in a car like the
S-Class. It's more of a luxurylike
braking feel as opposed to a super firm
braking feel like a sports sedan. It's
definitely on the luxury side of things.
So you shouldn't have any issues with
that. And uh it's super luxurious. I'll
just put it that way. And so but then
touching on suspension and handling. So
you will find an independent front and
rear suspension. You also get an
adaptive damping suspension. You guys
always know I love an adaptive damping
suspension. And what that does is it
monitors each shock absorber
individually. Not only adjusting to the
road imperfections, giving you a
smoother ride, but it also tightens up
that suspension during heavy cornering,
giving you better handling as well. So,
it really does give you the best of both
worlds. What you typically notice it the
most is with the ride quality. So, that
is certainly contributing to an
absolutely amazing ride here in the
S-Class. But, in addition to that, you
also get an aromatic suspension, and
that also adjusts. So, if you're going
faster, it's going to lower a little
bit, giving you a little better
aerodynamics. If you're going slower,
it's going to raise automatically,
giving you a better like off-road
clearance for like even speed bumps,
things like that. So, you got to love an
aromatic suspension. But in addition to
that, 4.5° rear axle steering now comes
standard. That's newly standard for
2027. There's also an optional 10 degree
rear axle steering that goes for $1,300
if you wanted that. There's also an
option I wanted to mention. is called
eactive body control with intelligent
damping that goes for $6,500. But that
counteracts lean pitch and dive to
reduce those forces felt by the
passengers essentially just making a
more luxurious ride quality, I guess you
could say. But overall, as far as ride
quality goes, it's insane. I've already
mentioned that this is one of the
smoothest, if not the smoothest ride
humanly possible. Whenever you add an
adaptive damping suspension to an air
suspension, you're always going to have
the best ride quality possible. those
two configurations, those two additional
add-ons, I guess you could say, that's
how you get the best ride quality these
days currently. So, I absolutely love
the ride quality in this thing. As far
as steering feel goes, it does adjust
dependent upon the drive mode that you
put it in. So, if you wanted a heavier
feel, a heavier weight to the steering,
put it in sport. If you wanted a looser
feel, you put it in comfort and so on.
You guys basically get that. As far as
cabin noise goes, that's really insane.
So, one of the quietest rides uh I've
ever experienced. And the reason being
is because an acoustic laminated front
windshield does come standard. Of
course, that's pretty standard among
luxury vehicles, but acoustic laminated
front door glass also comes standard.
And acoustic laminated rear door glass
also comes standard. And that's one that
typically does not come standard even on
luxury vehicles. So, that's pretty wild.
I I guess you would expect again that
the S-Class would get that though. Then,
touching on rear visibility, I'm looking
out my rearview mirror here. I can see
perfectly fine. And with a shape like
the S-Class, you really shouldn't have
any issues with rear visibility.
Touching on forward visibility a little
bit, rain sensing windshield wipers do
come standard. So, whenever this thing
detects any kind of mist or rainfall,
it's going to automatically turn on
those windshield wipers for us. So, just
one less thing you got to worry about
there. And of course, there is a head-up
display available, although we don't
have it with us here today. So, anyways,
that pretty much rounds out the
performance segment of this review, you
guys. Let's now go ahead and take a look
at the exterior because a lot has
changed for the 2027 S-Class. All right,
so here she is you guys. The new 2027
Mercedes-Benz S-Class finished in warm
gray in case you were curious of our
exact exterior color name that we have
with us here on this one. But like I
said, there are some new colors for the
2027 S-Class, including black sparkling,
verde, silver, mango, and overall
there's 70 exterior color options.
That's wild. This particular one that we
have with us here today, um, it's
actually a free option, but there's
plenty of priced options from $1,750
ranging all the way up to $9,900. So,
there's even a yellow available. Can you
imagine an S-Class and a yellow? That
would stand out. But anyways, 34
interior color options as well. I did
want to mention that, too, cuz that's
just wild. Usually, you get like two or
three. You get 34 here on the S-Class.
But, as always, let's go ahead and start
with where this thing is made. Taking a
look at the VIN. First character is the
letter W indicating that the S580 here
is built and assembled in Germany as it
should be. But starting up front,
Mercedes-Benz hood ornament of course
does come standard. You get new full LED
headlights with the MercedesBenz star
pattern. And again, these are newly
designed for the 2027 model year. You
get LED daytime running lights with
those. You get automatic feature. You
get the automatic high beams as well.
Meaning, if you have your high beams on
at night and it senses the vehicle
coming in the opposite direction, it's
going to automatically dim them back to
low beams. Then when that vehicle is
gone, it's going to automatically bounce
it back up to high beams for you there.
I'm just going to get up a little bit
closer just because I want to show you
guys the detail in this. Like this is
wild. These are such unique headlights.
Yeah, you don't see headlights like
this. And it says digital light as well.
That's so cool. And front grill. Look at
this. You got the Mercedes-Benz Star
logo throughout the entire front grill.
And of course, this little rectangular
piece that integrates well into the
front grill, that is your adaptive
cruise control sensor. So, you hardly
can even tell that that is there. Get
the front air curtains to the bottom
corners there, helping direct air around
the wheel and tire combination. And one
more option I wanted to mention to you
guys, although we don't have it with us
here today, this star emblem on the hood
here. You can actually get that as an
illuminated standing star for $185. So,
did want to mention that as well. But
that pretty much rounds out the front
end of the S-Class. Let's now go ahead
and swing around to the side. All right,
so this we are around to the side of
this one. Chrome window surrounds will
come standard. The door handles are
actually flush with the car. That's
pretty cool. I like that you get soft
closed doors all the way around both for
the front doors and the back doors. So
if your kids don't close the doors
automatically, possibly um they're going
to automatically kind of suck it back
in. So that's kind of a cool little
feature there. Body color power
adjustable side mirrors. They will be
heated with LED integrated turd signals.
They're auto dimming. are power folding
then as well. And then take a look down
at the wheel setup. Tons of different
wheel options, but 19-in 5-spoke alloys
coming standard, but there are 19in,
20-in, and 21in designs all available.
And I actually love the wheel design
that we have with us here on this
particular spec. I think it looks dang
good. And uh one of the first things I
actually noticed actually on the new
S-Class here, I almost forgot to mention
it to you guys. Uh front fender accents
here. I thought they were accents and
then I got up closer, I'm like, "No way.
That's a dang camera in the side of the
front fenders there. So, that's very
interesting as well. I think that's
pretty cool. But that pretty much rounds
out the side profile of the S-Class.
Let's now go ahead and swing around to
the back. So, now since we are around to
the back of this one, starting all the
way to the top, typically you'll find a
shark fin antenna, but I think on like
99% of Mercedes-Benz these days, they've
just done away with that. So, no shark
fin antenna or antenna of any sort. It's
such a clean look for that particular
reason. but LED highmount stop lamp. You
guys could probably see that. LED
taillights which have been redesigned
for 2027 as well. So, I'll get up a
little bit closer yet again to show that
to you guys. Of course, you have the
Mercedes-Benz Star logo within the tail
light. So, that's pretty cool. But
again, they're redesigned for this here.
LED license plate lighting does come
standard, of course. And then just below
it all, this is also very nice. You got
a little bit of a rear diffuser in the
middle there. But to the sides, dual
exhaust outlets integrated into the rear
bumper. And they're actually integrated.
It's not just like fake exhaust look
with the exhaust pipes going down
underneath of the vehicle like
Mercedes-Benz tends to do on some of
their other vehicles, but it's actually
integrated into the rear bumper. That's
such a clean look. I absolutely love it.
So, having said that, I do believe you
guys know what we have to do next. Here,
as always, here is that exhaust clip.
Right.
So, now since we are around to the back
of the S-Class, when it comes to opening
up the rear trunk, it is going to be a
power trunk, which is always super
convenient. There is a button on the key
fob. There is a button on the trunk
itself then as well. But once opened up,
cargo capacity comes in at 12.9 cubic
feet. That's a ton of space. There is
LED cargo lighting back there. There's a
12volt power [music] outlet. There's
netted storage. There's tie down
anchors. And then if you were to lift up
underneath of that cargo floor, you will
find some in flooror storage, which is
always nice to see. And of course,
everything's super nice and carpeted
back there as well. So, I'm always a big
fan of that. Then making our way up to
the rear leg room that comes in at 43.8
in for reference. I mean, even 6 ft
tall. This is how much space I had in
the back. Anything over 40 in, by the
way, is luxury. So, 44 in, nearly 44 in,
that's just absolutely insane. That's so
much space in the back. You get power
rear and side window sun shades for the
rear passengers as well. There's a rear
center armrest with cup holders and a
tablet holder. Uh the way the rear cup
holders work, by the way, cuz if you
just press in the end of that, uh it's
just going to be like a little uh phone
holder or something like that. But if
you press it in halfway and then let it
go, that's where the cup holders are
hiding. And they are hiding. Um so if
you're not familiar with the
Mercedes-Benz, that might be new, but
that's how that works. You get rear
ventilation back there, of course, rear
USB charging ports as well. Heated and
ventilated rear seats come with the
executive trim if you wanted them. And
uh that also comes with memory settings
and heated armrest. This is all for the
rear passengers, too. It's just all
absolutely insane. But I love the
ambient lighting back there, too. I
think that looks absolutely amazing. You
got the diamond patterned stitching
found in the doors. Uh the rear
passengers just have it made back there.
And they get the pillows back there,
too. There's some hidden storage behind
the cup holders, too. That's typically
where you find the champagne flutes in
the Maybach. Uh, but since there's no
champagne flutes in just the standard
S-Class, um, they filled that in with
storage basically, so you can hide stuff
back there. But so then, making our way
up to the front seats, 12way power
adjustable front seats do come standard.
They will be heated and ventilated.
That's definitely nice. Multicontour
front seats with the massage function
also comes standard. So, you get
massaging seats. Leather and Nappa
leather finishes are going to be
available. Or really, leather comes
standard. The Nappa leather finishes are
going to be optional. And you get a
bunch of crazy colors with the Nappa
leather as well if you really wanted it.
From like greens to blues to there's all
kinds of wild colors. I love it. And
again, you get pillows for headrest.
That's always nice as well. So overall,
as far as seat comfort goes, it's
probably my top four seats of all time.
Like these are dang comfy seats. Like
everything about them from the lumbar
adjustments to uh like the massaging
function, of course, the pillow
headrest. It's just absolutely amazing.
But now let's go ahead and take a look
at the steering wheel. It is tilt and
telescoping. It is power adjustable. It
is leather wrapped and you can get a
wood leather combination steering wheel
for $600 if you wanted that. I thought
that was a pretty cool design. But then
making our way to the startup, let me
start by showing you guys the key. Very
heavyduty key. You got your
Mercedes-Benz logo all the way to the
top. That is your lock button. Just
underneath of that, you got unlock and
of course that button to pop the rear
trunk there. And uh remote start is
available with the Mercedes MI mobile
app. Uh if you wanted to go ahead and
use that, but it is all keyless entry
with a push button start. So, all I'm
going to do here is simply put my foot
on the brake and press that engine start
button located just in between the
infotainment screen and the gauge
cluster. And speaking of when it comes
to the gauges, it's part of this full 39
in dash we got up here and a 12.3 in
digital gauge cluster on the driver's
side here. And definitely looks good.
And it's definitely a different setup
than last year from what I remember. I
remember there was a bunch of different
looks I could adjust up there. uh this
year it's it's still dang good looking,
but it's kind of like a Tesla setup
where it shows the cars to the left and
to the right of you whenever you're
driving down the highway or something
like that. That is definitely nice. It
also gives you a percentage wise, how
many miles you have left until you hit
empty. It gives you the actual mileage
as well in the bottom lefthand corner
there. Uh there's speed limit
recognition. Uh digital speedometer of
course as well. There's your outside
temperature in the bottom right hand
corner there. Definitely feels hotter
than 77 degrees if you ask me. But
overall, gauge cluster is definitely
reminiscent of Tesla. Um, and that's not
a bad thing. Definitely don't mind that.
Would have loved to have seen if you
could adjust the cars into like sleds
like Tesla does. I think that would be
pretty cool. Not sure who's going to be
using that on the S-Class, but I think
it's cool. But anyways, let's now go
ahead and make our way to over on
interior quality. A panorama roof does
come standard on this one. LED interior
lighting also coming standard. That's
actually pretty bright up there.
frameless rearview mirror with home link
controls for up to three different
garage doors in the bottom portion of
that frameless rearview mirror there.
Dual zone climate control so both driver
and passenger can set their own
individual temperatures. You get 64
colors of ambient lighting including
kind of like this ombre kind of theme or
multiolor ambient lighting where it can
be more than one color at the same time.
So, I think that's pretty cool. You get
wood fabric and piano black finishes
available. We got some wood finishes. I
see that found on the doors here and
around the cup holders here in the
center. That definitely looks good. We
have looks like dual wireless phone
chargers. Uh that's pretty nice as well.
There's aluminum pedals down uh by your
feet, of course. [laughter] Where else
they're going to be? Some really wild
looking aluminum speaker covers. I am
excited to test out this sound system.
Yeah, sound system by Burmester. We'll
test that out in a little bit here. But
overall, as far as interior quality
goes, as you would expect, there's
nothing but high-end finishes in this
thing. Um it's dang good. And actually
just playing around with this passenger
screen here because I don't think I've
ever played around with this before.
There is a Burmese app. Let me see what
that is. There's different presets I
guess you can adjust up there. That's
kind of weird. There's a camera system.
You could check out the camera on the
passenger side uh screen there. That's
fun to play around with. There's a
gallery. It looks like you got Disney
Plus and YouTube. If the front passenger
wanted to watch my review on this
particular car, they could do that in
this particular car. You got weather
information up there. I see Angry Birds
and a bunch of different games you can
check out as well. So really, it's kind
of like a smartphone for the uh front
passenger here. That's kind of cool. So,
lot going on up there. I kind of like
it. But uh also didn't want to forget to
mention these air vents. I don't even
know what to call them. I would say
fighter jet style air vents cuz they're
circular. But um there's like ambient
lighting surrounding the exterior.
Everything is super soft and a smooth
feel to it. Um and it's just a cool
design. And like everything about this
car is so unique. I love it. Let's now
go ahead and make our way to the
infotainment screen here. Again, this is
part of the 39in dash display. Overall,
front screen though measures in at 14.4
in. You get Bluetooth and audio
streaming, wireless, Android Auto, Apple
CarPlay, factory navigation system up
there. You can adjust your climate
control settings, ambient lighting
settings. Everything is just so new in
this car. They're like all the tech has
been completely redone for 2027, and I'm
trying to get used to it. So, forgive me
if I'm not as fluent in this particular
review than I have been in prior S-Class
videos, but it's just so wild like uh
how much change has gone on with the
tech up here and how many different apps
they have available and all that fun
stuff. So, I'll probably be playing
around with this for a good bit of time,
but a lot of customization can be done
up here. Uh ambient lighting settings,
there's ambient styles as well. Uh sound
experience. Uh, of course, like I said,
there's YouTube and Disney Plus and all
that fun stuff. Um, so anyways, let's
get to the radio information here. You
get a 15 speakeraker Burmese 3D sound
system. So, with some crazy aluminum
speaker covers. So, let's go ahead and
turn on the radio. And by the way, 710
watts. Let's turn on the radio. Let's
see what we got playing today. And let's
test out the clarity of this one.
[music]
So, what I was trying to show you guys
there, that sound system is insane, by
the way. Plenty of clarity. Definitely a
ton of bass. is when the the bass was
hitting the ambient light and colors uh
was pulsating according to the music.
So, it was really wild. Like, I thought
that was really cool to see. Anyways, it
was a really cool sound system. I like
that. But, last thing I wanted to
mention guys on the infotainment screen
at least is when you do put the S-Class
in reverse, you will find an insanely
highdeinition rear view camera coming
standard across the board. Lot of
customization uh that can be done with
this camera as well. It also shows kind
of what angle you're backing up in. Uh,
that's pretty cool, too. Uh, you got
automatic reversing there. That's kind
of wild. Uh, oh, yeah, that's right. Um,
park assist is crazy on Mercedes beds,
by the way. You can actually tell the
car whether you want to pull in or back
in and it does all the work for you. But
a lot of different camera angles. You
get that top view, 360° monitor there as
well. But all of that is going to lead
us into safety. And so, there's a lot of
standard safety with the S-Class. You
get Mercedes-Benz emergency call
service, which essentially means if you
were to ever get into an accident, the
car is going to automatically call you
and ask you if you need uh ambulance or
police or whatever the case. That's
definitely convenient. You get attention
assist. There's a dash cam, adaptive
cruise control, crosswind assist, blind
spot monitoring system with rear cross
traffic alert, evasive steering assist,
lane keep assist, lane change assist,
emergency stop assist, and parkronic.
And that's the thing where it parks for
you. It's absolutely wild. But overall,
when it comes to my final thoughts of
the S-Class here, I love the V8 in this
thing. So, plenty of power. 0 to 60 in
less than 4 seconds in the vehicle. The
size of the S-Class is absolutely
insane. Uh, incredible ride quality, of
course. Very serene cabin. This thing is
super quiet. So, everything you expect
from Mercedes-Benz, basically. I love
all the different color options as well,
both on the exterior and the interior. I
love all this new tech. I love that the
passenger has this uh fairly large
screen here above the glove box where
they can play Angry Birds or watch
YouTube or whatever they want to do.
That's pretty cool. I think really the
only constructive criticism for the
S-Class, and I've said this before, is
this thing can get dang pricey quick. I
know this S580 starts at 134 or
whatever, but there's so many options.
You can easily put this thing closer to
160 or more. [music] So, just keep that
in mind. But anyways, that pretty much
rounds OUT THIS ONE. YOU GUYS FEEL FREE
